Chapter 03 B
*somewhere in Tokyo*
“so someone came there and asked about her huh?” the person on the phone calmly said
“yeah, it’s a police officer named Matsui Rena” the other person replied
“Matsui Rena” the person said “so what did you say to her?” added by mysterious person
“I obeyed and said the script that you’ve given me 5 days ago if ever there will be a person who will be searching for her” the other person said
“thanks for the cooperation, I’ll send the money that I promised. Hope that the orphanage will not be in trouble about money again” the person said and hung up

The next day I woke up alone in my room. I quickly get up and put my slippers on to find the person who was sleeping beside me last night. Thoughts run inside my mind like what if she left already? What if I can’t see her anymore? A Lot of ‘What If’.
“good morning Yuki-san” she greeted me with a warm smile.
“there you are!” I sighed with relief. Somewhat, I feel that I’m afraid to lose her and I don’t know why.
“why? Are you alright? You look scared” she asked while putting the plate with scramble egg on the table.
“ohh no, nothing, don’t mind me hehe” I smiled nervously “oh you cooked breakfast?” I asked
“yeah, it’s the least I can do. Come and grab a seat and eat your breakfast. You still have a work y’know” she said while pulling one of the seats in the table.
I walked towards the seat that she offered and sat down. We both eat our breakfast and had a tiny chat with each other.
“oh I have to go now Mayu-chan. Feel free to do whatever you want in this house just don’t destroy it ok? And btw I wrote down my cell number near the telephone. Just call me if you need something, ok?” I said while walking to the front door.
“don’t worry I will take good care of your house and here, take this obento” she said while giving me the obento she made.
“for me??? T-thank you Mayu-chan” I stuttered a wee bit as I was surprised but thankful to the little thing she made for me. I bid goodbye and walk towards my car.
“take care Yuki-san” she shouted while looking at me, sending me off.
“I will!” I shouted back and get inside the car and I drove immediately to the police station.
“good morning” I greeted the people enthusiastically as I entered our department and quickly went to my desk.
“ehem, you look so happy today” Rena said
“ah!rena you startled me!” I face to the girl who is now sitting next beside me
“aish! Coz you’re spacing out. What happened to you? Hmm maybe something special happened yesterday” Rena said with a thinking pose while keep nodding.
“shut up! There’s nothing special happened yesterday and btw the document?” I said opening my hand.
“ohhh really? And yeah here’s the document that you asked from me yesterday. Now I already called the restaurant and reserved a table for 2. You can’t run away anymore from your treat Kashiwagi Yuki since I used your name in reserving the table” Rena smirked while handing me the document.
“alright alrigh you win” I said, defeated.
“thank you~~~” she said with a weird tone and headed to her desk.
“so her birthday was just few weeks ago, I wonder how she spent it” I sighed while I continue reading the document until an idea pop out in my mind.
“I think it’s better late than never” I said to no one in particular. I waited for hours for the lunch time but time is ticking so slowly and the papers and documents that I have to do are already done. There were also no accident or crime that took place in or precinct.
“lunch break!” a shout from our boss echoed in our department and just mere second Rena is already standing near beside me, smiling widely.
“let’s go?” I asked her teasingly and received a numerous nods from her.

*at the restaurant*
“here’s your order ma’am, enjoy your meal” the waiter said placing the food that Rena ordered and after that walks to other table to take the order of other
costumers.
“why did you not order some food Yuki?” Rena asked
“coz I have my obento” I answered with a smile
“you’ll regret it, food here is great” Rena boasted
“naah it’s fine my obento is the best after all” I smirked
“whatever, itadakimasu” Rena said happily and quickly eat her food.
“neh, Rena can I ask you something?” I asked while eating my food.
“go ahead” she answered without looking at me.
“do you know how to organize a surprise party?”
“hmmm a surprise birthday party for mayu?”
“yes-yes, ehhhhh! How did you know?”
“well I’m the one who gathered the document remember and well it's better late than never after all right?”
“ahh yeah”
“I’ll help you about the party IF!”
“IF?”
“if you’ll answer my question honestly”
“w-what question?”
“do you like that girl?”
“like that girl? You mean Mayu?”
“yeah, well it’s kinda obvious though but I just want to confirm it”
“obvious?”
“obvious that you like that girl and you’ll do anything to make her happy”
“I like her? Now way, it’s impossible”
“no, it is possible, see you are so happy that she made you an obento, you didn’t even order anything from this restaurant”
“coz It’ll be a waste if I didn’t eat it. And also I’m a girl and she’s a girl, so it’s impossible”
“then let me ask you this, why do people only have one heart?” she asked pausing the thing she currently doing.
“I don’t know, because it’s how the composition of our body should be?” I answered back with a questioned look.
“hmm think like this, Maybe we have to find its perfect match where its heartbeat will synchronize perfectly to the other one. Our emotions and our hearts don’t have eyes to see but a feeling if that person is the right one or not even if it’s a boy or a girl. Liking someone is not bad as you think as long as you don’t hurt others. Well I’m not saying that you love her though I’m just saying that you like her and liking a person has different types and you’re the only one who will know and feel which type of like that your feelings fall off” Rena stated seriously, looking at me.
“somehow that makes sense, maybe I like her but I don’t know in which type of liking this feeling of mine will fall off” I said quietly while looking down at my food.
“HAHA you’re thinking about it seriously and besides you’ll find the answer one of these days” Rena laughed for the matter that we are talking about right now.
“but this is a serious case” I pouted
“I know, but supposed to be we are planning about the surprise birthday party for Mayu not about your feelings for her” Rena stated but a sudden AH! can be heard from her.
“What?” I asked confusingly
“if it’s a birthday party then Mayu will get suspicious on how you know her birthday and she’ll ask you about her family, her parents and all” Rena said. She’s right, if she’ll know about her parents surely she will be sad and the surprise party will turned out unsuccessful.
“then what should we do? She still has no idea about her parents and I wanted to tell her about it few days after the surprise party” I said asking for a solution to a new problem.
“then we’ll just make it a party from her recovery and a welcoming party also?”
“that’s a good idea, ok let’s go with it”
“can I bring someone?” Rena asked shyly.
“sure you can bring your boyfriend” I said with a grin
“I don’t have a boyfriend. I’m bringing a g-girl” she said while looking down, feeling embarrassed.
“ohhh a girlfriend then, tsk tsk that’s why you are so expert on giving me some advices about my feelings toward Mayu. Coz we are riding in the same bout” I teasingly said feeling relieved that I’m not the only one who has this feelings.
“I guess so, so when will be the party?”
“Saturday evening, but Rena-chan don’t change the topic first, I sooo sooo wanted to know who captured Rena’s heart” I said excitedly while clasping my hands waiting patiently for an answer.
“it’s uhmmm it’s”
“ahh it’s Mayu!” I cut Rena’s moment of speech as I saw Mayu coming out from starbucks just near the restaurant we are currently having a lunch at. I can see her clearly as our table is located near the window.
“no it’s not Mayu!” Rena said not getting what I meant.
“it’s Mayu!” I said while pointing the girl outside the restaurant.
“ohh I thought it’s about the girl that I like” Rena sighed and look at the girl I’m currently pointing at “she seems angry, does something happened to her again?” she added
“I don’t know, I’m going to ask her” as I’m about to get up to my seat my phone suddenly vibrated and I picked it up still my eyes glued to the girl outside.
“hello inspector Suzuki? Yes we are still in the restaurant. A snatcher? Oh that place is near in the restaurant, all right we’ll respond about it quickly” I said to the person on the other line and hang up.
“what was it about?” Rena asked
“a crime took place just a minute ago, the criminal or a snatcher is escaping and running towards in this area near the restaurant, he is on his mid-twenties wearing a black jacket and a cap. He’s holding a red bag that he snatched earlier. We have to catch him no matter what” I said while putting money on the table as a payment to the food and quickly went out from the restaurant.
“where is Mayu?” I thought as I couldn’t see her and feel her presence anymore. “hope she’s fine” I muttered and started running to find the criminal.
Few minutes of running and turning from one corner to another, a dark messy corner got our attention. We get out our pistol inside our jacket and I waited for a ‘GO’ signal from Rena. Rena moved her hand back and forth as a signal for us to intrude the corner. Our eyes widened as we saw the criminal with the red bag on his right hand that he snatched earlier lying in this dark and messy corner. We slowly approached him still holding our pistols towards his direction.
“he’s unconscious” Rena stated and kneeled down putting her pistol back to her jacket. She put her fingers on man’s neck trying to get his pulse.
“he is still alive, call an ambulance and also call inspector Suzuki” she ordered and I nodded and started calling for an ambulance.
“A man from his mid- twenties is unconscious, fully beaten up by someone. A cut on his head is still bleeding from a hard hit of a metal tube blah blah blah” I said to the person on the other line for them to know the current condition of the man and after that called the police department about what happen.
“the man’s condition is now stable. Lucky that both of you saw him minutes after the accident took place because if it took the both of you to find him any longer we don’t know what might happened to him” inspector Suzuki said while closing the door behind him.
“the metal tube that we found as an evidence is no use as no finger prints had found” I reported to him.
“we also asked some people near the area if they saw the accident but unfortunately no one saw it as there’s not a lot of people who passed by in that area” Rena also reported the information she got.
“we can’t say it as a case since the victim the snatcher but still we need to find that person who did it to him. Why did he do that? Why did he beaten up that guy if he can just turned him in the police department” Inspector Suzuki asked with no one in particular as he was thinking about the motive of that person.
“you can go home now, it’s already a little bit late. Thanks for the hard work” Inspector Suzuki said and we both bowed to him.

*Yuki’s house*
“I’m home” I said while taking off my shoes and put it nicely in the shoe rack.
“ohh welcome home, dinner is ready” Mayu shouted from the kitchen.
I walked to the dining area just beside the kitchen and sat down on the chair, rested my tired back for a while then eat my dinner.
“hey what happened to your hands?” I asked as I saw Mayu’s hand with bandage.
“nah it’s nothing. I was washing clothes earlier using my hands since the washing machine is not functioning” Mayu answered back while eating.
“are you alright? Did you put medicines to your wounds?” I quite panicked while asking her.
“I’m fine, I’m fine don’t worry and yeah I already applied some medicines to the wound” She replied smilingly.
“ohh sorry about the machine it’s quite old already. I’m going to order a new one so don’t worry and thanks for cleaning the house and for doing the laundry too” I said while looking at my clean house.
“by the way Mayu what are you doing in starbucks?” I asked as I’m curious why she was there.
“ahhh you saw me? I was trying to apply for a job but then they said I need experience on doing coffee. I’m kinda pissed off you know I mean like how can I get experience if they won’t accept me” She complained and stood up putting her dishes in the sink.
“you don’t have to look for a job”
“but I want to because I don’t want to be a burden to you here”
“naah you’re not a burden for me. See you cleaned my messy house and you even do my laundry”
“but at least I can buy some of the groceries and also pay of some bills in this house, please Yuki let me find a job please”
“alright alright but not the dangerous work or heavy work ok?”
“yes, thank you”
“By the way I have to sleep now I’m so tired today. Good night Mayu”
“good night Yuki, just leave your dishes there and I’ll be the one to wash them”
“thanks”
Every day is like that. Mayu cooks breakfast and also make obento for me while me; I go to work and also plan for the small surprise party. I’m also busy searching for an answer. Every day the seed that Mayu planted in my heart is slowly growing inside but still I can’t find the answer. I don’t know in which type of liking this feeling of mine falls off.

*the day of surprise party*
I’m in the mall with Mayu waiting for Sae’s text if the arrangement in the house is finally done and just a few seconds my phone vibrated.
“it’s done, you can come here now” Sae texted me.
“Mayu let’s go home” I said to the girl who is looking at an anime figurine and she nodded.
“ahhh I need to go to the cr first Yuki, wait me here ok?” she said and run to the cr.
“miss I’ll take this one” I said to one of the staff in the store and quickly paid for it.
“I hope she’ll be happy for this gift” I whispered to myself
“Yuki let’s go”
“uhn”
The mall is not so far from my home so it only took a few minutes for us to get there. We get off from my car and opened the door.
“it’s so dark” Mayu said but startled from a sudden shout
“SURPRISE” the genki girl shouted loudly while Rena turned on the lights
“what’s this?” Mayu asked confusingly and turned her gaze upon me.
“we are having a surprise party for you” I smiled
“s-surprised party?for what? It’s not my birthday I think?”
“uhmm it’s like a recovery party or a welcoming party or birthday party too if you want to think like that. We just—“
“I Yuki, I” Rena clarified
“yeah, I just wanted to throw a surprise party for you”
“but you don’t have to”
“but I wanted to”
“alright alrigiht let’s eat now I’m hungry” Sae said and quickly make her way to the dining area. We followed her and sat down to our respective seats.
“by the way this is Rena and----“ I introduced Rena but paused halfway as I don’t know the name of the girl beside her.
“Jurina, Matsui Jurina” the girl beside Rena said “nice to meet you” she added
“nice to meet you too” Mayu answered back
“nice to meet you Mayu-chan” Rena said and got the same respond from Mayu
“and this is Sae, the doctor who checked you up that night”
“nice to meet you”
“same here”
The party started nicely, everyone is having fun. We all went to living room for karaoke and also drink some beers.
“ah there’s no more beer anymore” Sae who is now slightly drunk said
“I’ll get some, there’s still more in the fridge” Mayu said and gets up from the couch
“I’ll help her and bring some food here too” Jurina added and followed Mayu.
“ahh by the way Rena-chan, you’re Yuki’s senior in the police department right?” Sae chan asked while she pause the song from karaoke.
“yeah, why?” Rena responded to Sae’s question
“what was the first case did the both of you worked with?”
“uhmm it’s a smuggling case, right Yuki?”
“yeah it is and it happened that a man who has an order of a shoot to kill appeared in the crime scene and I saw him”
“yeah yeah then Yuki ran to the man to catch him and I followed her”
“wow it’s so cool it’s like from a detective drama, and so? What happened?”
“when I finally managed to catch up with Yuki they were talking about something and I was standing on Yuki’s right side pointing my gun to the said man” Rena said while doing the same thing as she did at the crime scene.
“but then the man didn’t continue his speech as he was afraid that Rena might shoot him so the man triggered the pistol he was holding and shot Rena” I said sitting in the couch trying to prevent my laughter from Rena’s pose.
“ohh that must’ve been hurt” Sae said while forming her hand like a gun and pointed it to Rena “bang”
“yeah it hurts a little bit but I’m so lucky that bullet only hit my arm. Yuki got angry and shot the man, Bang! Bang!”
“woah it’s soooo cool”
“if you think it’s so cool Sae-chan then why did you took up medicines instead of criminal justice and besides killing a person is not that cool” I said
“who’s that person again Yuki?” Rena asked and sat down beside me
“uhmm as far as I remember it’s not his real name but that person goes by the name of Asahi Mamoru”
“what was that?” Sae said while turning hear head to the person who is standing near the living room.
“sorry it slipped in my hands” Mayu said and picked up the beer cans on the floor.
“it’s fine, no worries” I said while walking to her “let me help you”
“thanks”
The night got darker and deeper and everyone is now drunk and is sleeping in the messy living room except Mayu and I.
“ahh we have to clean this mess” Mayu said while yawning
“but you are sleepy already, we can do it tomorrow, the garbage will not run anyway” I joked trying to make her laugh
“I never thought that Yuki is a joker” Mayu smiled “alright I’ll just head to the room and get some sleep then”
“alright good night Mayu”
“ah by the way Yuki”
“yes?”
“can I ask you a favour?”
“sure you can”
“I know this is weird or odd or strange or whatever but”
“but?” I said as she pauses. I felt a sudden nervousness as I saw Mayu’s face turned into serious one.
“but please don’t fall in love with me”
“w-what?” I stuttered as I was caught off guard.
“PLEASE DON’T FALL IN LOVE WITH ME” She said while bowing down.
The words rang inside my head. I was shocked, I was hurt and my heart broke into pieces. Then suddenly I realize that I found the answer to my question, in what type or category this feeling of mine falls off. It’s it not a sister liking or friend liking but it’s like a liking that will eventually turn into falling in love.
“o-of course I will not fall in love with you. You’re a girl and so I am and I’m just treating you like as my little sister, that’s all” I lied trying to hide my emotions
“that’s good to hear. Sorry for that favour and thanks for the party, Good night” Mayu smiled then headed towards her room.
I quickly get inside my room and locked it. I sat down near the door and hugged my knees. My tears suddenly fall from my face. The words she said earlier are still ringing inside my head like a broken cd. It hurts, it really hurts. I never thought I’m slowly falling in love with her and I never expected that she will ask that favour.
“PLEASE DON’T FALL IN LOVE WITH ME”
The words that made my heart broke into pieces. The words that made my eyes cry. The favour that I know I can’t keep or I can’t do. It’s hard for me to do it and the only option left for me is to hide this feeling in front of you so that you’ll not get mad at me. It’s the only way to see your smile, your face and to spend the day with you even though we are just like friends. I’m sorry Mayu but I’m slowly FALLING IN LOVE WITH YOU AND I CAN’T HELP IT.
“why, why would you not let me fall in love with you?” I asked with no one in particular as I buried my face in my knees, crying while holding the gift I have for her.
