AKB48 groups launch Google+ project to interact with fansPosted on December 8, 2011 by tokyograph Image from: Mantan WebIdol group AKB48 celebrated their 6th anniversary today (December , and they took the occasion to hold a press conference to announce a new project. Along with sister groups SKE48 and NMB48, AKB48′s members have created accounts on Google’s social networking service Google+. They will use the service to communicate with their fans worldwide, as there are plans to have their posts translated into at least five languages: English, Chinese, Korean, Thai, and Indonesian. The project includes at least all of the official teams and research students for AKB48, SKE48, and NMB48, though HKT48 and JKT48 have also been mentioned as part of the project. Although Google+ currently is limited to people at least 18 years of age, the underage members have been lumped together under the “Heyakko” account, which will post on their behalf. The members plan to make use of Google+’s Hangout feature, which is a built-in group voice/video chat feature. This allows members to interact in real time with fans around the world. Hangouts currently allow for 10 people in a group at a time, so there are plans to have individual members to have chat sessions with 9 fans at once. The members are already posting plenty of photos and videos to their accounts. They also plan to use the service to post live from their events and concerts, including their “AKB48 Kouhaku Taikou Uta Gassen” on December 20 and their “AKB48 Request Hour Setlist Best 100 2012″ on January 19-22.Google+ has a project page with links to all of the individual AKB48, SKE48, and NMB48 accounts.Sources:NatalieMantan Web

Finally managed to get some comments in. Good to know it was only some overload hiccups and not some blockage thing Seems like I can't quickly comment on a new post, though, probably because a hundred other people are trying to do the same.
Until now, some of young members have been able to post to Google+only via the "Heyakko" (age 13-17) page...…but as of today, every single one of the 109 members of AKB48/SKE48/NMB48/HKT48(age 13-17) will have their very own Google+ profile!Add this circle, and you'll get to see updates of newly joined AKB48 membersin your stream! Please enjoy. The AKB48 Management Team

Google has made a concerted push to gain visibility through the acquisition of high profile users, and that same methodology has been applied to Asia. The most pertinent example was the recent collaboration with Japanese super girl band AKB48 in December.Hayward reveals that the girls, and there are 48 of them in the group, have accumulated more than 3.5 million followers collectively and “have been quite impactful about getting people to engage with Google+” in Japan, and other parts of Asia where they are popular.Hayward cites the example of Yuko Oshima, whose 143,645 followers make her the most followed AKB48 member on Google+). Although she has considerably less followers than Britney Spears (1.6 million), Oshima’s fan engagement is considerably greater than the US popstar’s.As stats from allmyplus show, the average post from Oshima receives more reshares than that of Spears (by 26 to 21), more than four times as many +1s (932 to 226) and more than five times as many comments (475 to 91).Though Twitter is well established in Japan, which holds Twitter’s record for tweets per second, and Facebook is showing signs of growth there, it took both services some time to gain traction. Hayward says Google+ has made a promising start to life there. With the AKB franchise set to expand across Asia — there is already a ‘sister’ group in Jakarta, and two others in Japan — Hayward is optimistic that the band will help Google+ bring more users on board along the way.
On March 4th, popular idol group AKB48 announced their ‘Google+‘ (Gugutasu) senbatsu members.16 members whose activities stood out on the social networking site, ‘Google+’, were chosen as the senbatsu members. These members include Matsui Sakiko, Takajo Aki, Katayama Haruka, Nakamata Shiori, Ishida Haruka, Suzuki Shihori, Tanabe Miku, Kuramochi Asuka, Nakagawa Haruka, Kitahara Rie, Yokoyama Yui, and Fujie Reina of AKB48, Matsumura Kaori and Matsui Rena of SKE48, Yamaguchi Yuki and Yamamoto Sayaka of NMB48.The 16 members will star in Google’s upcoming CM and will also be in charge of the CM songs. The song and its music video will be featured in AKB48’s next single.
