Sunset of Love (RenAirin)Airi sat on the grass, panting heavily as she wiped the sweat off from her forehead. The immense training under the hot sun was tiring for her and luckily the training was already over and the sun were about to set. Her two friends came running towards her and one of them sat in front of her while the other one sat beside her, chugging a bottle of water.
“Wow, we’re working really hard today.” said Akane, stretching her sore arms up in the air.
“It’s because coach is here and I could not believe that she made us to run two rounds before practicing!” Kanako, who sat beside her, whined with her signature bubbly strawberry voice. Kanako glanced at their coach who was talking with her teammates and shuddered when the coach caught her looking at her.
Airi giggled looking at her frightening look. “Don’t look at her, Kana-chan. She’ll probably make you run ten times more!” She picked up her bottle while Akane laughed which Kanako shuddered even more from the thought of her running ten times around the field.
“Do you guys want to stop by the convenience store before going back home?” Airi asked as she stood up, putting all of her things inside her bag.
“Of course! Kana-chan you’re going to treat me today!” Akane chirped happily, standing up.
“EH? Why me? You’re the one who supposed to treat me! No fair, Churi!” Kanako stomped her feet like a little kid and Akane stuck her tongue out and skipped towards Airi, leaving the girl behind.
“Wait for me!!!”

“What should we buy today? Croquettes or Ice cream? Akane asked as they were meters away from the convenience store. Kanako jumped ecstatically while holding the soccer ball in her hands.
“Ice cream! Ice cream! I scream for ice creaaaaaaam!”
“Kana-chan you’re attracting attentions and people would think we’re still middle school.” Airi teased and the girl stopped jumping around. Kanako puffed her cheeks while Akane snickered.
“Are you sure you’re a high school student, Kana-chan?” It’s Akane’s turn to tease the girl, crossing her arms on her chest while inspecting the girl.
Airi shook her head as the two were bantering with each other. “I’ll treat you girls for today.” Both heads snapped to her direction and Airi raised her eyebrow.
“What? Do you want or not?”
“Really, Airin? That’s awesome!” Akane beamed, putting her hand around Airi’s shoulder while Kanako was even more delighted than her for not having to treat her.
Just when they were about to step close, a group of friends were coming out of the store. The three girls fell into deep silent watching them having a light moment with each other. Three boys and two girls were walking pass them and Airi blushed looking at that certain boy who was munching a melon pan. Akane saw this and gave her a nudged with her eyes sending her the look.
The boy turned his back and smiled at her, waving goodbye at her while the bread was still on his mouth. Airi waved back but the girl who was holding the boy’s hand dragged him and he couldn’t see her waving at him back. Airi heaved out a sigh and smiled sadly looking at the disappearing figure.
“I think I’m going to faint just by looking at them!” Kanako fanned her face with her hand as she was blushing, ogling at them.
“Kuu-san is cute, Nishishi-san is cool and Ren-san is…” Akane looked at Airi with a teasing smile.
“…perfect.” Airi muttered which Akane could hear it clearly with her sharp ears.
“Do you think Kuu-san has a girlfriend?” Kanako asked with a hopeful look written on her face,
Akane smacked Kanako’s head and earns a sate from her victim but Akane ignored her. “Didn’t you see? That was Yuria walking by his side!” Akane pointed and Kanako pouted.
“I wonder about Nishishi-san…’
“Don’t get your hopes up, Kana-chan. He is dating Rikako-senpai.”
“Waah! Rikako-senpai is sure is lucky! I wish there was boys in our school!”
“Yeah, right. Like that is going to happen.” Akane rolled her eyes and they continued their endless bantering.
“Ren-san already has Yuki-san…” Airi added, holding her bag tighter on her shoulder. She placed her hand on her chest and her heart was beating faster when she saw that smile but at the same time it stung her so bad.
“But are they really a couple? From what I heard, they were only childhood friend and Yuki-san recently was dumped by her boyfriend and Ren-san was helping her after her break up.”
“Is that so? But they look so cute together! If I were Yuki-san, I’d be the luckiest girl on earth.” Kanako interrupted, holding her cheeks in embarrassment and imaging things. Akane shot her a deathly glare and signaled her to look at Airi who seems to be down. Kanako face palmed herself.
“Well, what are we waiting for? Let’s get some ice cream!” Kanako dragged them, breaking the awkward silent that just happened after what she had said.

The next day, the trio passed by their baseball field and stopped, looking through the wired fences. Kanako was squealing while Airi was trying to find a certain someone.
“We’re lucky to have them practice in our field since their field is currently renovating.” Akane sighed, looking dreamily at them. “and our students didn’t let their chances slipped. Just look at them.” The whole bench was crowded with girls from their school and also the neighboring school, screaming and squealing looking at the teammates.
“Nishishi-san is cool!” Kanako squealed jumping up and down.
The coach blew his whistle and the team stopped playing and went to their bench, grabbing a quick drink. The hitter was the last one to join them and he stopped when he saw them. Ren smiled at her and Airi smiled back with a blush tinted on her cheeks. Yuki came down and wiped his face while the other girls squealed including Kanako herself. Airi’s expression suddenly sank and she could feel her heart was tightening from the view.
Realizing the look on Airi’s face, Akane pushed her and Kanko off the fence. “Okay, that’s enough. Time for us to have our own practice. Coach will get mad if we’re late!”
“What? NOOOO! I want to look at them more! Stare at their perfect being!” Kanako latched herself on the fence but Akane pulled her bag and dragged the girl with them.
After changing to their jersey, Akane bounced the ball on her head with perfect balance while Kanako and Airi practiced together.
“So, Airin, have you talked to Ren-san lately?” Akane asked as she gave the ball a final hit and it landed on her hand. She sat down and the two girls joined in forming a triangle shaped.
“No, he’s still busy. They’re going to have a match next week.” Airi pulled out a white towel from her pocket and placed it on her head.
“You’re really lucky, Airin. I’m super jealous of you.” Kanako pouted, she set her chin on her hands looking enviously at Airi while Akane raised her eyebrow, amused.
“Why is that, Kana-chan?”
“It’s because you’re dating the hottest guy!”
“Not dating. We’re a just friend, that’s all.” Airi interjected with a small blush.
“Hohoho, are you sure?” Akane squinted her yes, crossing her arms on her chest. Kanako fluttered her eyelashes as she was looking at her with a teasing smile.
“I wish I was you, Airin. Your meeting with him was like in a shoujo manga! So romantic!” Kanako squealed as she laid her back on the grass, lost in her own world.
“What? Bumping into him when he first came to our school was completely embarrassing and not romantic! It’s still fresh in my mind that I still remember it until now.” Airi hid her face with the towel and the two of them laughed.
“But, still, you’re lucky~” Kanako cooed.
“
Very lucky.” Akane added.
The two continued with their endless teasing and Airi could not help but to blush and stuttered at the same time. Indeed, she was lucky to have met Ren even though it was embarrassing meeting between the two of them. Ren was on his way for the first time trying to get to the baseball field when Airi suddenly bumped into him as she was late for her practice.
Fortunately for her, no one was there to see them. Ever since that day, they’ve become friends and it was Ren who took the first step. But Airi realized that their friendship now was kind of in a loose as the two of them rarely meet and was busy with their own activities.
“Hello? Earth to Airin?” Akane clapped her hands in front of her face, snapping her from her thought and Airi looked at her with a frown.
“What?”
“Let’s go home now, Airin. I can’t wait to watch the next episode of my favorite anime.” Kanako jumped up, grabbing her hand.
They were about to leave the gate when Akane saw someone was waving at her behind a tree.
“You girls go on first. I forgot something on the locker room.”
“Are you sure, Churi?” Airi asked looking at her friend who was only smiling at them.
“Don’t worry about me. See you girls tomorrow!” Akane waved goodbye and ran back inside.
“Well, it’s just you and me then, Airin.” Kanako shrugged and pulled her hand and dragged the girl all the way. Airi glanced back and she noticed something was odd but then she just let the feeling off her.

Airi waited anxiously on the bench the next day as Akane had told her that the coach wanted to see her after practice. She was really nervous that she could not stop tapping her feet. Even though her coach rarely came to watch them practice, Airi knew well that whenever the coach wanted to see someone it could be that they’re lacking on something or something else that was not really good. Airi shuddered at thought at getting reprimanded by the coach. Her teammates and friends were already leaving and she was alone and she didn’t know what to do if the coach came.
She could hear footsteps thumping the metal floor and her heart started to leap when the sound came closer and closer to her.
A pair of hands came behind her, closing her eyes.
“Guess who.” A voice cooed, mimicking a high pitched voice. All of the sudden, her world stopped. It was not her coach’s voice and Airi knew that voice very well and it came from the person she had wanted to meet but never get the chance to do so.
“Ren-san?” Airi removed the calloused hands, and looked back only to find Ren grinning at her with his white baseball uniform and a black cap turned on the backside.
“I really can’t imitate, huh?”
“Nope, you're horrible at it.” Airi teased and the boy puffed his cheeks. He took a seat beside Airi and placed his school bag on the ground.
“Wait, I thought the coach wanted to see me.”
“Nope, it was me. I asked Churi to call you here. I really wanted to see you, Airin.”
“Yuki-san is not with you today?” she asked warily, looking around them.
“She has some club activities today. Don't worry about her.” Ren flashed her a smile and Airi could not help but to blush even harder. She diverted her eyes and look on the field. They lapsed into silent and Ren hummed a tune.
“Um, it's kinda embarrassing right now.” said Airi; fidgeting with the hem of her jersey.
“Why is that?”
“I'm wearing my jersey and I'm soaked with sweat from practicing.”
Ren burst into laughing and the girl stared at him in disbelief, cheeks flaring even hotter than before.
“That's not a reason to be ashamed of! You look naturally fine to me and I like that in a girl.”
“B-but, didn’t you like cute girls?” Airi countered helplessly.
‘Even though I wanted to look cute in front of you…’
Ren shook his head. “I like girls who loves to look naturally than having thick make ups. Just like Airin. You didn’t even change your jersey!”
“W-well that's b-because Churi said it was urgent that I didn’t have the chance to change into my school uniform.” Ren chuckled looking at her flushed face and he poked Airi's cheek playfully.
Another silence fell between them with Airi trying to fight back her blushing cheeks.
“Do you have someone you like, Airin?” Ren said out of the blue, kicking his legs in the air while looking up at the sky. The sun was about to set and an orange color spread through the sky. Birds flipping their wings as they headed to their nest.
“I-I guess. Why do you ask, Ren-san?” Ren looked at her with a curious smile etched on his lips and Airi's heart started to thump really faster. How could she not be? She was looking straight at the person who she was in love with!
“Nothing. Just want to know more about Airin.”
“But I don’t think he likes me. He already had a perfect beautiful girlfriend.” Airi said sadly, staring at her hands on her lap. Ren raised his eyebrow in amuse. He edged closer and crossed his legs on the bench.
“I think you're mistaken, Airin. That person didn’t have a girlfriend. In fact he is looking at his girlfriend right now.”
Airi's eyes went wide and she looked at the person beside her who still had that curious smile etched in his lips.
“Airin...Daisuki.”
“Ehh?!”
Having the ultimate confession she had been waiting in her life, Airi was about to fall from the bench but luckily Ren caught her hand and pulled her to his embrace which her face rested on his chest.
“Clumsy Airin is cute.” Ren patted her head. Airi could feel that Ren's heart was also beating faster. Well, not faster as hers. Airi pulled back from him and still had the look of shock written on her face. She wanted to cry with tears of joy but she was too overwhelmed.
Seeing no respond from the girl, Ren waved his hand in front or her face, snapping the girl from her daze.
“You're not replying. Could it be that the person you're in love was not me?”
“N-n-no! I love you too, Ren-san. From the first time we met.” Airi said sheepishly.
“What? I can’t hear what you’re saying.” Ren teased, smiling like a fox and Airi was sure she was about to faint anytime from seeing those smiles.
“I love youuuu, Ren-saaaaan!” Feeling really frustrated, Airi shouted and her voice echoed through the whole field. Ren was stunned and he didn’t expect her to do that but nonetheless, he was beyond happy.
Realizing what she had done, Airi hid her face in embarrassment and this made Ren's heart fluttered. Ren pulled her into a hug and stroked the girl's back.
Airi looked up and they were inches apart. Their eyes met and Airi felt she was drowning from those light brown eyes. Ren gulped, unable to resist the adorable look from her. He moved his head closer and their lips were about to touch when suddenly....
“Reeeeen!”
“Ren-chaaaaaan~”
“Airiiiiiin!”
Voices shouted from below and the two backed away from each other and looked at whoever was interrupting them.
Nishishi, Kuu, Akane and Kanako were waving with a bright smile looking at them. Nishishi and Akane were grinning broadly and Airi narrowed her eyes when she looked at Kanako who was holding a video camera in her hand.
“Perfect timing guys!” Ren chided, standing up and glared at them.
“Let’s go home!” Nishishi shouted and the group left first. Ren heaved out a sigh and scratched the back of his head.
Airi took all of her things and stood up. Ren shouldered his bag and held his hand to her. Airi took his hand and tip toed, placing a kiss on Ren's cheek and it was the first time Airi saw Ren was blushing.
“Daisuki, Ren.”
A quick one-shot again with the rush ending. orz.
