SaeMayu: A Bad Person
In this world everyone has a life of their own. A life that they live in whatever way they choose. There are good people and there are bad people. I guess I'm a bad person seeing how everyone is afraid of me. I'm the baddest kid in school and no one messes with me. Anyone who does gets a major beat down from yours truly. I have some friends but none of them are real friends. I have a nice kouhai who I play with every once in a while but otherwise I'm just alone. I don't mind it being alone since I'm always busy beating someone up but on days when I don't it gets kind of lonely. I rarely go to school anymore and no one really cares if I show up or not.
I was just relaxing at home when there was a knock on my door. I wasn't really used to company so this was a surprise. I was expecting my old man to answer the door but I forgot he was gone for the day. The knocking sounded more furious so I got up and ran to the door. I opened it and said,
"What?"
There standing before me was a girl in glasses and twin tail pig tails. She had an irritated look on her face and when she saw me she asked,
"Are you Sae?"
"Yeah so what?"
"My name is Watanabe Mayu and I was assigned as your partner for a huge project. I've come over so we can work on it." she said.
"Project? I don't go to school why is the teacher giving me homework?"
"I don't know but I have to get a good grade or else my parents will kill me so let's go!"
She pushed me inside and followed soon after. She shut the door and took off her shoes. Then she walked into the main room and screamed.
"What?!" I said.
"This place is a mess! How can you live like this!!!" she said.
"I just do."
"Well I can't stand it! Where are your trash bags?"
"Trash what?"
Her face turned bright red as she stormed off and I heard shuffling noises in the background. Then she came back with a trash bag and started picking up all the trash laying around. I stood there and watched her as she went through it all and then she walked over to me and said,
"Go out to the store and get more trash bags."
"Why should I?" I asked.
"Because I said so and you'll do it."
She had a really dark look on her face that I've seen before so I had no choice but to go. I went to the store and then rushed back because God knows what she had done with the place. When I walked in I couldn't believe what I was seeing. The entire place was spotless from top to bottom. Everything was clean and had a nice scent to it. I walked into the kitchen where Mayu was sitting in a chair eating some pudding. She put her spoon down and said,
"Are you ready to work?"
I stood there speechless not sure what to do. Mayu stood up and grabbed my arm then led me to my room. I was surprised at how clean it was. I sat at my desk and she sat on my bed. She laid back and said,
"If you're not gonna work then I'm gonna stay here and bother you until you do."
Then she reached under my pillow and pulled out one of my Play Boy Magazines.
"Is this what you read?"
"Hey!"
I took the magazine and stood Mayu up. I pushed her out of my house and said,
"Thanks for cleaning up my house. Now leave!"
Then I slammed the door shut.
"Fine but I'll be back tomorrow!" she shouted.
"I doubt it...." I said inside.
The next day I wasn't going to be home so I knew she wouldn't be there. I was out beating some yankees up because they were trying to take over my turf. After a long hard battle I won but now I was all bloody and tired. I just wanted to go home and rest. However when I walked inside I found Mayu sitting on the couch. When she saw me she had the same reaction as my mom.
"What happened to you!?" she said.
"None of your business. Leave..." I said.
"Not until I treat those wounds. Come here!"
She grabbed me and pulled me into the kitchen. There she pulled out some bandages and started to bandage my wounds. It hurt every time she touched me so naturally I would back away.
"Quit being a baby and hold still!" she said.
"Quit being so rough and maybe I would!" I barked back.
Mayu lightened up and it didn't hurt as much. When she finished she put away the bandages and then said,
"You shouldn't waste your life getting into fights like that. What's the point in doing that?"
"I don't know because it's the only thing I 'm good at." I said.
"But why?"
"Because I'm a bad person! The person that everyone is afraid of and won't talk to. The person who is the cause of other pain. The only point in my life is to be bad and that is what I am."
"No it's not..."
"What do you know! You're a good girl so people like you. You know nothing about me."
"But I-"
"Shut up!"
SLAP
There was silence in the room. It was as if time had froze as I looked at Mayu who now had a red mark on her face. Tears were in her eyes as she stood there silently. After realizing what I had done I felt so bad and now I wanted to apologize to her. I tried to reach out and touch her but she backed away. She just bowed her head and ran out the door. I facepalmed myself and started saying baka. I was such an idiot for doing that to Mayu. All this time she was trying to help me and I did nothing but hurt me. I really am a bad person. I stood there moping when I suddenly heard a scream. I ran outside and saw the group of yankees I had beaten up earlier. They were back and one of them had Mayu.
"Hey let her go!" I shouted.
"This your girl Miyazawa? Well then I think I'll take her home for myself."
"NOOO!"
"Mayu!"
I ran towards the yankee holding Mayu but two others got in my way. They swung and one hit me in the stomach while another hit me in the face. They were about to hit again but I moved out of the way and hit one right in the groin. He went down and I took care of the other one with a blow to the head but then I felt a sharp pain in the back of my head. Someone had snuck up behind me and hit my head with a pipe. I hit the ground hard and felt my body grow weak. I saw the yankee smile as he pulled Mayu closer. I couldn't let him touch her. Not Mayu...
With all my strength I stood up and charged at the yankee. He pulled out a knife and tried to cut me but I moved out of the way just in time. He missed and I punched him right in his ugly face. He dropped down out cold and then I grabbed Mayu. She started crying and held onto me shaking. I carried her inside my house and then called Yuko and Rena to take care of the yankees. I set Mayu on my bed and checked her for any wounds. She seemed unharmed which was a relief. I got up and was about to leave but I felt something tug my sleeve. I looked down and saw Mayu holding onto my shirt. She pulled me down and cuddled in my chest. I smiled and wrapped my arms around her. I stroked her hair and told her everything was going to be ok and she was going to be safe. Then I said,
"Do you see why I say I'm bad? It's not safe to be around me..."
"I don't care.."
"Eh?"
"I don't care because you're still the same Sae and that's all that matters."
"You're strange you know." I said.
"Yes and I don't care."
I giggled a little and patted her head. She sat up and said,
"Hey the project is due tomorrow... We haven't even started it..."
"Ah then we should get started."
I stood up and walked over to my desk. Mayu walked over and sat next me and from there we worked hard on the project together. The next day I went to school for once and all the kids were really surprised. However I didn't care and Mayu and I went to turn in our project. Then for the rest of the day we spent it together until after school when the teacher came and found us. He said our project was the best and we got a perfect score. Mayu and I were both really happy that we got a good grade. That night we decided to go out and have some fun. We went to an arcade where we had all kinds of fun. At one point I won Mayu a stuffed alpaca doll that she wanted so badly and she was really happy. She even kissed me on the cheek! I was felt like something lift in my chest when she did that. It felt so nice.
After all our fun I walked Mayu home and was about to say our final goodbyes.
"Guess I won't be seeing you around for a while." she said sadly.
"Well I don't know about that." I said
"Eh?"
"I'll see you tomorrow ok?"
"Un!"
She smiled happily and then waved goodbye. I walked away with a light feeling inside and a smile on my face. For once I wasn't the bad person and it felt really nice to be a good person. I think I'm going to like being this way. As long as I have Mayu with me maybe things will change. I think I've finally found my angel the one who will keep me out of trouble. I won't be a bad person anymore.
