That price really hurts.  I was hoping for a $199 price tag.  :(  There's at least 5 launch games I want too, so I think I need to start a Wii Fund.

HHAHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAH.  This made me actually laugh out loud.  I'm stealing it.  It's as good as the Solid Snake gun-in-mouth one.

Apparently if you adjust for inflation this is actually the cheapest Nintendo console debut yet.  Sure beats dropping what is it, 700 bucks for the PS3?

Gamecube's price was $199 when it launched.

I've only skimmed the notes regarding the Nintendo Wii but that controller.. the one in all the commercials, that isn't 'required' use, is it? I'm not going to be dancing around with a stick like a jungle beaver.. would like to retain what little dignity I still have.

What?! 250 for a consol is dirt cheap! I cant believe there people complaing about the price! 360 is $400, ps3 600 and the Wii for 250...plus its a next gen system. Where is the high part? Heck a psp is 200 and its only a portable ps2! not new just portable!

well i guess ppl whine because there was always speculation that the Wii will be around 200 only. 250 to me is really cheap compare to my xbox360. of course, 360 is a more powerful console. but to me, a Wii is worth better than a psp for sure at 250 dollars.

by sitting on your ass moving your thumbs to move something on a tv screen?

The controller is pretty much the whole point of why the wii is what it is. If you don't use it, all you're getting is pretty much a gamecube with slightly better graphics...

NES to SNES, PS1 to PS2 were all "pretty much a ______ with slightly better graphics". The Wii is no different, I've seen the controller in action and some friends have tried it.. they've said, and amany magazines prophecized the same before it had been completely released, that it's a good idea in theory and concept but is a bit much for the average gamer.

Nintendo has came out with quite a few concepts from controllers to VR Systems (none became all too popular).. this is pretty far from 'revolutionary' but I would still like to play the new games for the stories and releases regardless of the controller.

well since touch screen feature from NDS pretty much dominated the handheld market, i think Wii can do the same for consoles. graphics aint everything for a good console. Nintendo will always produce good gameplays. i know Wii will worth my money when i finally have it at home playing it.

Nintendo hasn't really had much competition for handhelds aside from a while ago from Sega (Game Gear, was it? Something like that) and just now recently the PSP. I definitely plan to pickup the Nintendo Wii regardless.

Well nintendo isn't really trying to appeal to any niche market with the release of the Wii. They said themselves they don't want gamers playing their games, but everyone. The way a gamer and any other person sees video games is almost completely different. The idea behind the control is to appeal to everyone that DOESN'T play video games. Will their plan succeed? it's really only a matter of time til we find out. But from what I've noticed at how popular the DS was, I say there's a good chance of it.  That's one of the main difference between the Wii and past non traditional video game accessories.

And when I was talking about "slightly" better graphics, I meant that literally. The Wii is barely better than the original XBOX when it comes to the graphics and processing power. That's because instead of thinking of ways to improve in that area, they thought of making the new controller and how they could implement that into gameplay. When you say that it's the same as the change from nes to snes and ps1 to ps2 graphic wise that's an understatement. At the time, the advancement in graphics and power were a pretty big deal when it comes to consoles.

my only question rite now is, how am i gonna play those action games they gonna put out?(Ex.smash bros)

i know ill enjoy Wii regardless. gameplay seems very nice and fun. i am really hoping. i think Wii , just like the DS will grab alot of non-gamers into playing it.

I've got lots of of other games to play anyways, plus I might get Xbox2 sometime too.
PS3 is excessively expensive :(

wii is awesome... and being the same architecture as Gamecube its really easy for developers to develope for the console... and the gamecube produced some of the most beautiful games last generation like F-zero GX, RE4, Metroid Prime 1 and 2, Super Monkey Ball....

I'll wait and see how the whole controller thing works out. If they sell out the initial allotment of a million units in North America, there should be much word of mouth feedback by about February to know if it's a hit or a miss. If it works, there will be a ton of new game announcements from third party developers. Otherwise, it's Gamecube II, in which case I'll pick it up when it hits $99.00.
