My friend wants to buy a wii.. but he has doubts.. I keep trying to convince him, so I can leech

The new smash brothers is going to be so much fun.. the new mario games look fun too. I'd like to try super paper mario 2 (or whatever it's called.. the 2d/3d game..), seems interesting.

You mean Super Paper Mario? That's what the Wii Paper Mario is called.
You should totally try it out if you get the chance. It's not a very long game (I wasn't expecting to be anyway), but it is SO FUN and not to mention pretty hilarious.

There is also that Super Mario Galaxy game. It seems interesting to me, the title is a bit "kiddy kiddy" in my opinion

Played Mario Galaxy just now.. what to say.. couple of things:

1. Graphics are good.
2. You can see and feel that they spend a lot of time on this game, which is good.
3. Kinda childish..
4. The camera is so annoying.. well, maybe not the camera as such, but the fact that you're running around planets and are upside down sometimes.. it's nausiating.
5. Controls are kinda sloppy sometimes, but that could be just me.

Overal I'd say it is a good game, but not that good as most websites are saying (9.7/10 etc).

^I've actually heard really great things about it from friends. I'm thinking of getting it since I just got a wii last week, and no games but wii sports.

The remotes now come with these padded soft gell sleeves which I think is a really nice addition for safety reasons.

You can get free ones if you bought a wii before directly from nintendo.

Actually its more to deal with the sweaty hands issue than safety. A little padding is not gonna help if you fling your wii mote.
But Mario Galaxy is awesome. I for one agree with the really high ratings. Only thing I dislike about it, which BarrieV mentioned was the camera. It gets frustrating when you are upside down and you tilt the stick one way and mario goes the other way.

Argh... ive been planning on getting a Wii since last month but no store seem to have them in stock.  Super Mario Galaxy was the turning point for me into getting one having played a little at my friends... and with Twilight Princess, Metroid Prime 3, and Zack and Wiki the Wii will definitely keep me entertained for a long, LONG time.

And if that wasnt enough, once February hits Super Smash Brawl will take over my life... and my house since my friends would never want to leave.

Yes... definitely a great time to pick up a Wii, if i could only find one...  :depressed:

EDIT: Finally found a Wii in stock at my local Wal-Mart!! I rushed over and there was a long line up for but thankfully they just got the shipment in today so they had plenty for everyone!

There was a line for it in the store? LOL, at the Best Buy I work at if I get some in  the middle of the day, you'll see people fighting over them.

lol, quoted for truth, in my view.
I'm thinking about buying a classic controller to play that game, I can't see myself playing that with the wiimote and numbchucks.

I like the classic controller for VC games anyway. Apparently you can also play with the classic controller as well as the Wiimote/Nunchuks it's attached too - so getting 4 controllers together for multiplayer won't be too hard.

Yeah I just got the game this week. I absolutely agree with all that you said. I've only played it a little bit in the last few days just because it does feel to Kiddy to me. I don't really feel like the game is really grabbing me. The boss fights are pretty much the only thing I look forward to. It just seems too easy sometimes.

I've had the Wii since it came out but only have about 4 games since I got it. Most of the games that are out just dont grab my attention, I'd say thats the only problem the Wii currently has, for me at least. But Smash Bros will change that.

p.s. Has anyone played Soul Calibur Legends? Or Fire Emblem? I want to get those but I don't want to base my decisions solely on what websites rate them.

I was over at SSB dojo, and found out that I can use the wiimote easily (I wasn't thinking about how it could be turned sideways) guess I don't need to buy that classic controller anymore. Maybe, so I could play my old gamecube games, my neighbor messed up my only one

yup.. and on top of that you could also use gamecube controllers to play as well, so it wont be too hard for a 4 player multiplayer match.

For me, ill b using a gc controller since im familiar with the controls...but im curious on how the classic controller will feel like.

i currently have 3 games plus the Wii sports, Zelda, Prince of Persia and Super Paper Mario. i had these games since i bought my Wii earlier this year but only play the Wii sports and Prince of Persia.  i had not played the other games yet, but am going to soon.  i just thought that i should at least finished Prince of persia before i played the other two but think that that is kinda foolish.  but i also would love to buy some new wii games but then again, since i haven't even started on my other two, i shouldn't be buying some new ones.  the one i want is Super smash bro brawl.

i also want to ask for some tips and tricks with the Wii remote in Wii Sports.  mostly boxing and tennis movement.  i can't seem to have good control of it.  my aim is way off and such.  since i'm left handed, would that affect gameplay cuz it seems when i choose my mii and set it to left-handed, my aim seems to worsen, with tennis i seem to have a better time playing with the settings on RH but play with my left hand.

does holding the wii remote in a specific angle help?

I'm left handed and I have a 2500~ish rating in Tennis. :)

Tennis comes down to getting the timing right and doing a forward or backhand depending on what's called for at the time.

Don't worry too much about accuracy, just focus on volleying it back to the computer. When you see the opportunity, spike it off the front court at a sharp angle to score.

When returning the computer's power serves, just do a quick motion since you won't have time to do a full swing.

I suck at boxing, so I can't help you much there.

another game you guys should check out for the wii is Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles.  its a first person shooter arcade style instead of the usual 3rd person walk around.  fun game to play with a friend.  As said earlier, zelda is a must have. if you have the cash (or a modded wii), get medal of honour 2, great online action =D

^ Hey I've seen a wii-gun attachment supposedly for use with Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles and another game. It's not a separate device, just an attachment so you can hold the wii-mote like you would a gun. Wonder if it works any better with those shooter games. Here's a pic:
