Chapter 1 - How I met youIt was different. It was forbidden.
It was something that could not bloom.
It was an impossible love.
I knew that, but I couldn’t help it.
I couldn’t help that I fell in love…with someone I shouldn’t of have.“My name is Maeda Atsuko. Nice to meet you.” I introduced myself to my new class I transferred into and gave a small bow.
Not surprisingly, I was then bombarded with questions which the teacher settled by saying that class need to start. I walked towards the end of the classroom and decided to settle in the seat at the end of the row next to the window but was stopped before I even sat down.
“Maeda san! Not there please.” A girl who resembled Gachapin exclaimed who was in the seat next to the seat I was stopped from sitting.
I tilt my head in confusion. It’s empty right? Why couldn’t I sit there? Despite the questions in my head I sighed and took another seat in front of the empty seat I wanted. It was still next to the window, so I guess that’s okay.
The girl who stopped me, smiled and nodded indicating her thanks for listening to her. I nodded back.
“My name’s Mii chan.” She whispered.
I settled in my newly located seat and listened to the teacher’s lecture for the first 10 minutes before I was staring at the clock hands trying to keep myself awake. It was awfully boring.
I looked around trying to give myself motivation for keeping awake, anything was okay…
…Oh! Looks like there’s a couple over there. Two girls had their tables closed together and they were holding hands underneath it.
I looked around again.
…Ah, and there’s a girl trying to get the attention of another girl who obviously likes it...
I began observing their actions until I realised the most obvious fact that made this odd.
Aren’t they girls…yet they’re showing interest to other girls…
Isn’t that weird? There are even boys at this school, I don’t get it.
“Maeda Atsuko!”Well, I have no interest in things such as love anyways…
“Maeda Atsuko!”
I was so caught up in my thoughts, I didn’t realise the teacher calling my name that is until Mii chan tapped me on the shoulder.
I straightened up and replied to my name. “H-Hai!”
“This is only your first day! Maeda san, I expect far more than this!” Akimoto sensei exclaimed in anger as he shot a glare before returning to his lecture.
I inwardly sighed.
This isn’t going to be an easy day…
(Atsuko, no matter where I am, my heart is yours ) Finally the ringing of the bell signalling the end of school was heard and my mind cheered in happiness.
I made a few friends at school, Mii chan, Kojiharu, Yuko and Tomox2. I haven’t chosen a club to enter yet and don’t plan to anytime soon.
“Which way you going? Acchan?” Mii chan asked as she pointed to the way she was heading. Unfortunately I was heading the other way.
“The other way from you.” I claimed.
“Aw…See you at school tomorrow then.” She said as she ran off, waving to me.
I smiled, she was really sweet.
I started walking back home, with my school bag hanging loosely on my shoulders. It only took a short amount of time before I felt shaken, as I sensed someone following me.
I hastened my pace taking larger steps but the footsteps behind did the same. I began running and running, no doubt this person was following me. I was scared, I wanted to go home.
My wishes were not met when the figure behind pushed me into a dark alley causing me to fall on my bottom. I looked up at the large figure and figured I was in a very dangerous situation.
“You want to play with us?” The man said as a gang appeared behind him.
I avoided his stare and ignored him.
The big man picked me up from the collar and my heart thumped faster and faster by the minute, but I kept my stoic facial expression. I couldn’t let them know a bunch of delinquents could scare me.
“We’ve got a “cool” one.” The man said followed my laughs that polluted the air.
Taking this opportunity, I bit his hand and was immediately released. Too bad, I forgot all about his friends. They caught me again by the wrist and pull me into their rough embrace.
The guys laughed and pushed me onto the wall. The man from before stared at me in anger, and suddenly my uniform shirt was ripped and my bare skin was shown.
“DO IT! DO IT! DO IT!” The gang members chanted, as their leader smirked and pressed his large hard lips onto my neck, while touching my skin with his filthy hands.
I closed my eyes and tears formed on the edge. I wanted to cry. I don’t want this…
The attack suddenly stopped and I peeked an eye open.
There, standing in front of me was the back of a small girl with high ponytail secured with a black ribbon. Her slender fingers were wrapped around the man’s fist for a second before they were deeply buried into the guy’s gut. She then proceeded to attack the remaining delinquents who’s face twisted like they didn’t know what was happening at all and all I could do was stare in amazement and awe.
She was a midget alright, but she was so
fast…and strong.
Not long, she was standing in the centre surrounded by fallen delinquents, her back was still facing me and despite the darkness, I felt like I could see a halo on her.
The girl began to walk away.
I couldn’t let her do that…not before saying thank you.
“Um..um…” I started my hands clutched tightly to my chest. “T-thank you.”
The said girl turned around, her thick beautiful hair followed her movement and I was completely drawn to her beauty. The girl looked around, to her left, right and behind, then pointed to herself.
“A-Are you talking to me?”
I nodded and walked towards her. “W-Wait!” She said as she took off her hooded jacket and wrapped it around my shoulders.
“ I gotta go. You betta get back home fast.”
That was all she said before she left my sight.
“What’s your name?” I murmured in the silence, feeling very lonely.
(Atsuko, no matter where I am, my heart is yours )“Ooohhh, a start of a fairy tale!” Mii chan squealed as she hugged me tightly and stroked my hair.
“So, what did your hero look like?” Yuko asked, her hands still rubbing the thighs of her lover.
“Short.” I simply stated.
“Did you fall in love with him?” The saber toothed girl asked, her smiled curled deviously.
“W-W-Wait! He? It was a girl. Falling in love is impossible.”
The girls frowned as they hugged their respective girlfriends.
“N-N-N-No that’s not what I meant…” I started but was replied with a bunch of laughter and giggles.
“We were just joking!” They exclaimed together.
“She has her hair tied in a high ponytail with a black ribbon. Her attire was kinda boyish, a black winged hoodie, and baggy pant…”
….
….
….
I looked back at my friends and received blank stares, their amusement from before was long gone. The atmosphere suddenly began to feel very heavy.
“W-What’s wrong?” I hesitantly asked.
My friends looked at each other, the face curled in an expression of worry and fear. “Accha-“
The bell resounded in the halls indicating that it was the end of lunchtime causing my friends to frantically pack their lunch and run off to their next class.
But the worry and sadness on the faces never left.
(Atsuko, no matter where I am, my heart is yours ) I laid on my bed wearing my pyjamas and sighed loudly. As soon as I got home, I searched and searched for the jacket my saviour had left me yet, they were nowhere to be found. It was so important to me, yet I couldn’t find it. Luckily, my mum didn’t ask about my ripped uniform when I told her I fell off a tree trying to rescue a cat, and bought me a new one. But that wasn’t the case…
I want to see her…and that was the only thing that would lead me to her. I sighed once again and was about to turn off my desktop light….when a short figure stood before me.
I did all that I could. I screamed.
“AHHHHHH!!!!!!” I screamed until my lungs felt dry and lost all its capacity. That’s when I started coughing.
My mum barged into my room and ran towards me, holding me by the shoulders. “What’s wrong daring?” She said as she hugged me, totally ignoring the short figure behind her.
My eyes widen and I tapped my mum’s shoulder. “Mum, can you see anyone behind you?” I asked, hiding my fear and anxiety.
My mum turned around and then back to me. “Did you have a nightmare?” She said in concern as she felt my forehead. I lied and nodded. “Sorry, for worrying you mum, I’ll be fine.”
“Have a good night. Atsuko.” Mum said as she gave me a kiss on the forehead.
As soon as my door was shut closed, my attention turned back to the figure standing in front of me. No doubt about it, she was the one that saved me yesterday. And she was wearing the winged hoodie.
“W-W-What are you doing here?” I pointed my finger at her. My arms and heart were shaking hard...in fear...or in excitement...I don't know myself.
“Why couldn’t my mum see you?”
She smiled and walked a bit closer, her hands still in her jacket pocket as she grinned lightly.
“You can really see me!” She exclaimed.
I was very
very confused. I brought my blankets closer to me and snuggled backwards on my bed. “Who are you?”
The short girl raised a peace sign and answered the question.
“My name is Takahashi Minami, and…
….
I’m dead.”
