AFTER ACTION REPORTTo: REAR ADMIRAL AKARI UEMURA
Director, Naval Special Warfare
Admiral,
This report is to document the events which occurred on DEC 20, 2028 involving members of the 6th NAVAL FLEET.
At 1130HRS JST on aforementioned date, 04 members from JSF Group JUICE, LT Riai Matsunaga (the ranking senior), Staff Sergeants Risa Irie, Ichika Arisawa and Kisaki Ebata boarded ANA FLIGHT NH990 departing from KANSAI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT returning from their R&R Leave in Osaka bound for Tokyo. They were joined by naval aviator, 1st LT Rio Kitagawa (Squadron CVN6 Morning Musume), a close friend of LT Matsunaga.
Eyewitness report collated from the JUICE members debrief placed an attempted hijacking of flight NH990 by a group of terrorist at 1200HRS with the use of light firearms on the cabin crew. 2 cabin attendants were wounded before 2 of the perpertrators attempted access to the Flight Deck. Carefully assessing the volatile situation, LT Matsunaga discreetly coordinated, using low-key hand signs, the movements of her 3 junior Team members in accordance to their training of CQB (Close Quarters Battle) combat. SSG Arisawa and SSG Ebata managed to disarm and neutralize 4 terrorists which were holding the Economy class section passengers hostage. SSG Irie, along with LT Matsunaga charged forward to the fore section of the aircraft when the Flight Deck was eventually breached. Regretfully, before the situation at the cockpit can be contained, both pilot and co-pilot were slained by the 2 terrorists. LT Matsunaga and Irie quickly terminated both men with extreme prejudice. With the loss of both qualified pilots, 1LT Kitagawa was called upon to take the helm of the aircraft as she was the only flight officer with enough aviation experience to make an emergency landing on the nearest airfield. She was assisted by LT Matsunaga who took up the co-pilot provisional role. By1400HRS JST, both officers successfully effected an emergency landing at Chubu Centrair International Airport (NGO), with no casualties to the passengers.
In light of LT Matsunaga's intelligence and quick-witted leadership during the crisis, I would like to recommend Command to consider her promotion to 1st Lieutenant as she has demonstrated extraordinary leadership abilities under pressure in order to prevail in this situation. I would also like to recommend Staff Sergeants Arisawa, Ebata and Irie for the Bronze Sakura medal for their valour and bravery and the Distinguished Flying Medal (DFM) to 1LT Kitagawa for successfully landing the aircraft. All mentioned members have performed admirably in the best traditions of the Navy and the Forces as a whole.
