Part 1-6“We can ask about his whereabouts and that is about it.” Matsubara informed me as I closed my hand into a fist.
It was the only thing I could do at the moment as we drove off to the main streets when my phone rang.
“Sae-chan, what’s up?”
“I was wondering what you want for dinner~”
My eyes turned to the clock and noticed it was late afternoon. Eight hours had passed since the discovery of the body and one lead to go on. Frustrating as it was, Sae knew how much I loved the job and getting an opportunity was once in a lifetime. Thinking of her face made me smile that I forgot about the conversation and looking over at the driver I had a kooky smile.
“The usual.”
“When are you coming home?” She asked with the slight coo in her voice.
“I’ll call.”
“Okay.”
I hung up the phone as we pulled into the station and Matsubara punched me in the shoulder.
“I guess you have a mate.”
“Her name is Sae. She is cute and upbeat compared to my serious, realistic view of life.” I explained as she stepped out of the vehicle.
“I see. I have to consider looking for a mate soon but I’ll keep to my job.” She smiled as Kasai walked out in her high heels struggling to get to us.
“Chiyuu~ I heard you guys stopped by the Kimura mansion.”
“With nothing to show for it.” I explained as she tossed me an envelope.
“The bar owner recognized Kimura last night and we may have a case if we act quickly.”
I took out the paper and it was a warrant for his arrest. Intrigued by the change in luck, we drove up to the gate and I got out with document in hand. I pressed on the intercom and saw a picture of an old man appear on the screen in an off black tuxedo with a blue bow tie.
“How may I help you?”
“We are here to see Mr. Shino Kimura.”
“What business do you have with him?”
“We are here to arrest him for assault.” I responded as the intercom was turned off for a brief moment.
Matsubara had pulled into the alley blocking the entrance to the main road. She quickly signaled for backup and noticed the two from the club come out from their car and blocked the other side of the mansion. The gate opened without incident but the car had came straight at me and dove into the grass as the three shot the tail lights and one of the rear wheels as he drove off.
“Kuso.” I groaned as I picked myself off the yard.
“Geez, we have another charge coming up.” The woman roared as I rubbed my right shoulder.
“Masuda-san, we should call for backup.”
Matsubara came to lift me up as the other two stood by my side.
“I forgot to introduce ourselves to you. I’m Masuda Yuka.” The woman with shoulder-length hair bowed. “This is Oshima Yuko, my partner.”
“I’m Akimoto Sayaka and this is Matsubara Natsumi.”
“Nice to know you, hopefully we can catch this guy so we can have takoyaki together.” She smiled before they ran off.
The strong accent and suggestion gave away her strength. I learned to never mess with an Osakan because of their tone but I couldn’t allow my smile to be shown because of the pain and my partner return us back to the station for assistance.
A few scratches were the result of the attack and I lay on the bench still feeling the pain running through my right arm. Wincing every second, I was given a pain killer to numb the pain and one rotation created a loud, ear-popping crack which freed up my arm.
“Akimoto, how you doing?” Tomita asked with his cigar-smoking breath.
“I should be fine but that guy is sure straight forward.” I joked.
“Well I guess we shouldn’t try that approach again.” He thought. “Take a break, Masuda and Oshima are following him with other officers.”
Assured by the boss, I sat there with my right arm hanging looking outside the window. I picked up my phone to text Sae and then noticed the short-haired woman at the door with a small package.
“Sayaka!!! What happened?”
“I was chased down by a car.”
“Mou~ I have steamed vegetables in curry for you.” She showed me the package before placing it next to me.
“Thanks. I’ll be home soon.”
Sae left without asking any more of my injuries but I wished I was still in the race to chase down that Kimura before he caused more havoc in the area.
