This is one of the series of one-shots I've written, so if I get enough encouragement I'll post more.
UZA
"Annoying."
"Yuko, that's not nice." Miyazawa Sae couldn't stifle her full laugh.
Yuko was struggling to describe AKB's newest star and Oshima Yuko's newest rival, and had finally come up with the right word. She was nervous about badmouthing another member, and if it was anyone else but Sae and maybe Noro Kayo, Yuko would've kept to herself.
"I'm sorry, but she is. I was interested when management put her in "Manatsu no Sounds Good!", but then she centers Eien Pressure? I'm pretty sure that tournament was rigged."
Sae nodded. "Probably."
"You know what? I'm mad. I think she's trying to replace Acchan." This was something Yuko had just thought of, but it made complete and total sense to her. "Yes, that's why she quotes Acchan and tries to act like her...I mean, what are the chances of that being a coincidence? Acchan graduates, management needs a new Acchan, new Acchan just happens to appear, and desperate management focuses on her. Yeah...yes! I got it!"
Sae laughed. "You'll like her eventually. You were like this when Jurina came, too."
"That was different. Jurina wasn't trying to be someone else. Jurina makes me want to do better. Like fresh competition after Acchan's graduation. Besides, I like Jurina. She's got a good personality." Yuko thought back to UZA, when she shared center with Jurina. She tried even harder, fueled by Jurina's enthusiasm and the friendly but tough competition between the two. Jurina's sudden appearance way back in Oogoe Diamond had startled Yuko, but she soon realized that while Jurina would do well, she wouldn't surpass Acchan or herself for a while.
"Shimazaki, though...it feels like maybe...management is tired of us old members. She just makes me feel...old," Yuko finished.
Sae sighed.
"Then do better. Stand out. Be more yourself. Be the Oshima Yuko that everyone's looking for, the one who's not afraid to do anything. The one who doesn't bitch about other members behind their backs. You can do whatever you want to catch people's attention, because you're Yuko. And don't worry about Paruru. She just wants to be liked, since she's got a lot of haters, so she decided to seem like the most popular member......who also had a lot of haters."
Sae watched a smile curl onto Yuko's face, then her friend doubled over in laughter. Sae waited until Yuko had gasped in pain, taken deep breaths, and then choked out,
"She'll never be like Acchan."
Four weeks later, AKB performed UZA, with Yuko and Jurina in center. Yuko gave it everything she had, thinking of Shimazaki Haruka every time she sang the word uza.
"Woah, she's on fire tonight," Jurina thought as she watched her senior. Yuko smiled coyly as she watched the look on Jurina's face: slightly surprised, very admiring, and all the way shocked and amazed at Team K's Oshima Yuko.
