Chapter 2.5 [The Heisei Holmes and the Rookie Police Detective]
Whilst me and Mario-kaichou are playing chess in the Student Council Room and eating pancakes, the sound box suddenly announced that I should go to the faculty office. It’s a case indeed, another mystery for sure. As I head out towards the Faculty Office, I was a police car by the window pane. As I thought, there is really a mystery! With that said, I immediately rushed to the faculty office. When I arrived, I was welcomed by Sensei and a familiar man.
“Takahashi-kun~”
“U-Umeda-keiji!?”
I was puzzled and shocked to see him. Umeda Ayasuke, a rookie Police Officer at Akiba Police HQ. He is the one who always accompany the police chief, Akimoto Yasushi on every cases. Of course, I was the one who always solves it.
“so, what’s the problem today?”
“we have a case to solve…”
“shall we go to the HQ?” I suggested
“let’s go…”
With that said, the two of us rode on the Police Car and head towards the Akiba Police HQ. When we get there, Akimoto-keibu immediately explained the case to us. Rather than murder or kidnapping incident, I was tasked alongside with Umeda-keiji to solve a missing person case. Keibu then showed a picture of the missing person.
“This is Shimazaki Masaharu. A clerk at Akiba Public Library”
“apparently, he was missing on Monday Night” Keiji explained
“Sakai Ryuuta, his friend and an attendant of Akiba Public Library, was the last person he met up the night Shimazaki was reported missing.”
“how about we go the library?” I suggested
“that was exactly the plan” Keibu smirked
“then let’s head to the library now…”
-A few moments later-
-Library-
When we arrived at the library, Sakai Ryuuta was on the front desk and welcomed us like nothing happened to his friend. I’m somewhat suspecting him as the one who caused Shimazaki Masaharu to be missing. Looking at him, I can’t shake off the feeling that a dangerous discovery might occur. Umeda-keiji then suggested that we should go to the third floor. With that said we took an elevator but, it reached its capacity of 400 kilograms forcing us to take a flight in the stairs instead. Seriously, is the weight of the people in that elevator that heavy?
“you’ve been acting weird for some time now Takahashi-kun…”
“it’s because I’m suspecting that attendant”
“you mean his friend”
“yea…”
As I walk up to the bookshelves, I saw some bookshelves that coincide with each other. It was about 5 bookshelves. This is really suspicious.
“hey Umeda-keiji, mind to help me move this bookshelves?”
“of course”
We then move the coinciding bookshelves one by one only to find the books unarranged.
“ugh…” I face palmed myself
“what’s wrong Takahashi-kun?”
“as a person with OCD, I cannot bear to see this unarranged books all over the place…”
“hehe~ I’ll help you out~” Umeda-keiji smiled
“erm kay~”
The two of us arranged the books for a minute. Seriously, having OCD is like a curse to me. Everything must be clean and in order! To make sure everything is in order, I double checked the books to see if it is all arranged. I then found a series of books facing the wrong way.
“Keiji~ it looks like you missed arranging these books~”
“ehh? But I arranged them already” Keiji was puzzled
“what?”
“look, it’s facing the right way here…”
I went to Keiji’s place only to find the books facing the right way.
“but… in the back side of the shelf, these books are facing the wrong way…”
After moving to the back side of the shelf, Keiji’s jaw dropped and his eyes widened. To think that there are fake books in the library is kinda awful. With me being curious and all, I took one of the fake-books and opened it. I was shocked on what I found.
“this….this is drugs right….” I murmured
“what the hell is that drug doing here…”
“if my deduction is correct, those fake books are the drugs’ caskets”
“that might be the case…”
“and if I’m correct…Shimazaki is dead by now…”
“why?”
“Shimazaki must have discovered these drugs ahead of us…and was killed by Sakai…”
“should I call the police now?”
“you should. While I look for his corpse somewhere…”
“I’m on it…”
Umeda-keiji then dashed out of the library leaving me in the third floor thinking all by myself. I wonder where the corpse might be. The bookshelves are out of the place, as well as the cabinets and the toilet. Wait…
Earlier, we attempted to ride the elevator but it reached its limit. 400 kg is the limit and yet there are only 6 people inside the elevator. If me and Umeda-keiji attempted to ride it then, then it should have 7 people inside to reach its limit.
“don’t tell me!”
I rushed to the elevator and wait for the right timing to expose the corpse. If my deduction is correct, it should be on top of the elevator.
“come on….”
Seriously, this is taking so long…
“damn…”
As I wait for the elevator to go down, I sensed someone sneaking behind me. When I turned my head to see if someone is there, someone hit me with a baseball bat and the attacker suddenly ran away.
“God, If I die right now….atleast let Atsuko be happy…..”
I closed my eyes and let my consciousness take me away.
