Chapter One

Akihabara Technical School is a private girls’ school that excels in subjects such as math and science. It is a school with a very good reputation and there’s always a high enrolment rate, but whether everyone passes is a different story. The school tends to be very strict with student selection and who actually passes the interviews. Although, the school is very particular about grades, they are also very particular about the interview. They like knowing whom they’re letting into the school. Troublemakers are a no go, but there are always exceptions and errors in this system.

“Stand” Muto Tomu is one of a kind. Teachers love her and students love her, but no one really knows anything about her. To sum it up, she has quite an enigmatic presence within the grade. She’s part of the student council and she’s top in the grade for academics. People see her as the ideal person to look up to, but even so, she’s not the most cooperative person.

“Sorry I’m late” a voice echoed amidst the silence of conducting the daily duties.

The teacher jerked his head to the late student and sighed. No surprise here, “Tano…” he said. “Why are you late this time?”

Tano Yuka just stood by the door with a frown. “I slept in,” she mumbled. She wanted to avoid the teacher’s gaze, so wondered her eyes around the room and found them glued onto another set of eyes. Muto Tomu. Yuka paused for a moment. Has Muto’s eyes always being this captivating? She thought.

“I can’t hear you, Tano” the teacher’s voice was stern. He was ready to give her a lecture at lunch in the staff room and everyone knew it was going to happen. Yuka always gets lectured.

Yuka didn’t react; she was too busy getting hypnotized by her classmate. She just nodded not even caring what the teacher said. It was all a blur in the back of her head. A smile. Muto smiled. Yuka didn't know what to do. What was Muto smiling at? Who was Muto smiling at? What is this situation? Yuka found herself all tangled up in her own thoughts.

“Tano!” the teacher raised his voice. His patience was running.

Yuka snapped out of it and turned to the teacher. “Y-yes?”

He sighed. “Come to the staff room at lunch”

“Yes, sir” Yuka bowed a bit and made her way to her desk quietly. She walked passed Muto and even though it was very tempting, she restrained herself from looking at the girl. She walked behind and stood behind her desk.

“Continue, Muto,” the teacher said.

Tomu nodded. “Bow” she continued with the morning greetings. “Sit” she finished.

Yuka sat down and looked ahead. Ah, it’s Muto again… she thought. Her eyes widened at the thought. “Eh?” she whispered loudly. Everyone turned to look at her, including Muto.

Tomu turned around and smiled. “What? Did you forget I sat in front of you?” she whispered.

Yuka gulped. She was becoming awfully nervous. “Um… No, I just thought of something. That’s all”

Tomu’s smile widened. “Spacing out in class isn’t very good,” she whispered. “Sir loves picking on you after all”

Yuka just smiled nervously as she took out her textbook slowly. She stared at the text on the pages and rubbed her eyes. She must still be tired, even though she did sleep in. “Maybe I’ll take a nap” she whispered to herself. She stood the textbook upright and lay her head down behind it. Closing her eyes, she dozed off.

~

A nudge. Yuka could feel a light push of her shoulder. She opened her eyes and stretched first with a yawn. “What is it?” she asked casually.

“Class is over”

Yuka froze in the middle of her stretch and abruptly turned to look at the girl who was waking her up. She knew it. “Muto?” Yuka quickly closed her textbook and packed everything up. “Sorry, I’ll go to the staff room immediately” she stood up and started to rush off but was caught with a gentle grasp on the wrist.

“You shouldn’t run in the corridors of the school by the way,” Tomu reminded with a gentle voice as she slowly released Yuka’s wrist.

Yuka bowed. “Sorry” she tried to cover her flustered face as she looked down, hoping her hair will cover her face. Why was she even flustered? She didn’t know. Maybe because it was the first time she’s had contact with Muto. Now’s not the time to think about these trivial things, she needed to get to the staff room.

“And” Tomu spoke again.

Yuka stopped by the door and turned back to the girl. Everything seemed to be going in slow motion. That soft smile and gently sharp gaze seems to be able to slow down time. And, the naturally authoritative voice Tomu possesses. Everything about her creates this majestic aura, one that drags others in.

“Please, call me Tomu”

~

“Ah… that was tiring!” Yuka exhaled loudly as she plopped herself onto the benches, where her friends were enjoying their lunches. “Sir is really too serious for my liking”

“Who told you not to get into my class?” Iwata Karen said. “Takamina is the best teacher ever, but then again… you’re in Muto’s class right?”

Yuka tensed up at the name. “Uh, y-yeah” she stuttered a bit.

“What is she like?” Karen asked. “I heard she’s really cool”

“Well, I guess…” Yuka replied weakly.

“I saw her once, warning a student about running in the corridors,” Takahashi Juri said. “She seemed really cold to me…”

Yuka just nodded.

“Eh… no way, everyone says that she’s really nice too though” Karen responded. “People say that she’s a tsundere, that's all”

Juri shrugged. “Maybe, but she doesn’t seem to hang around anywhere at lunch”

“Well, isn’t Tomu part of the student council?” Yuka asked amidst the heated discussion of Tomu’s character. “She’s probably there at lunch”

Juri and Karen looked at Yuka with narrowed eyes. Yuka looked back confused. “What? Did I say something weird?”

Karen crept closer to her friend. “Did you just call Muto, Tomu?”

“Eh?” Yuka was surprised herself. “Did I?”

Juri nodded. “You did. Is there something going on between the two of you?”

“N-no!” Yuka defended quickly. “It’s just we’ve being in the same class for so long already. I just thought… why not?” she added an awkward chuckle at the end to try and lighten the heavy atmosphere. “You know me, I prefer things casual”

The two raised their eyebrows questioningly. “We’ll let that slide for now…” the two said.

~

“Yuka, are you ready yet?”

“Wait, a few more seconds mum!” Yuka shouted from the upper level of the house. Their family is classified the upper class of Japan. Her father is an actuary for one of the biggest financial corporations of Japan and her mother was a professional ballet dancer, retired now but still as elegant. Due to this, Yuka does go to a fair amount of theatrical performances, parties and much more. Tonight, she’s going to attend a party her father’s company is holding. This is her first time, and she really wanted to give a good first impression and make her parents proud. Now, that she’s older her parents finally agreed to letting her go to these events.

After the final adjustments with her hair she gave herself a good look in the mirror and nodded to herself. “Okay” she said. She was very pleased with her simple navy evening dress, with silver accessories such as necklaces and bracelets. Most of her she loved her earrings. She rushed downstairs. “Mum, dad. I’m done,” she said with a broad smile.

Her parents returned the smile. “Then, let’s go Yuka”

The ride there wasn’t as long as Yuka expected. And, when they arrived she was absolutely stunned by the venue. It was a beautiful, grand hall. There were fancy cars parked on the sides. The stairs that led to the hall were gorgeous as well; everything was on a whole different level. Yuka was speechless and blown away. It’s like a she’s in a movie.

“Tano…” the usher bowed and put out a hand to welcome the Tano family in. Yuka was stunned once again, maybe the shock never actually left. The inside was even more impressive. The intricately designed pillars and the artistically set out food, it all made Yuka’s jaw drop in awe. The stage was large and the curtains were so classical in design. It was a huge place and Yuka finally felt like a part of her parents’ world.

“How is it honey?”

“It’s amazing” Yuka whispered still not fully processing the situation. “I love it”

He father smiled. “Well, there’ll be a speech soon and a few performances. So, we better get to our table”

Yuka nodded. “Sure”

They found their table and sat down. Yuka tried to clam down and was finally getting somewhere. Her father poured her some water and wine to himself and her mother. After chatting for a minute or so, the host of the party finally revealed himself on stage.

“Welcome, I am Sakurai Arata, the CEO of Sakurai Corporations. And, this party is just a little something for you all to just relax for a night and also a thank you for all you’ve done for the corporation so far” Arata paused. “To start this party off, I’ve decided that I would invite my own daughter to do a piano performance to soothe into the mood”

Everyone clapped. “The song performed will be Clair de Lune by Debussy, and performed by my daughter Muto Tomu”

Yuka’s eyes widened. Muto Tomu? “Muto…?”

Tomu swiftly entered the spotlight in a beautiful evening dress too; it was cut on one side and really flattered her legs. Yuka was stunned for the third time tonight. “She’s beautiful…” Yuka whispered subconsciously.

Tomu smiled and gave a bow. She carefully sat by the grand piano and the lights dimmed; only the stage lights were on now. The moment she pressed the first key, Yuka felt as if she had just entered another world. She didn’t know Tomu played the piano, actually, she doesn’t know anything about Tomu. But, she was damn good at playing the piano is all Yuka could figure out. Yuka slowly closed her eyes and just enjoyed the music. She’s not a classic person, but Tomu really made her enjoy classical music for once. Today feels like a miracle, is all Yuka could think as the piano played in the background.

~

“Are you struggling between which cake you should eat?”

Yuka felt chills run down her back, hearing that voice she turned around already expecting it to be Tomu but she was still taken by surprise. Tomu was unexpectedly close. This proximity is something Yuka is not accustomed to.

“I’d go for the cheesecake, if I were you”

Yuka smiled. “R-really?” she turned back to look at the cakes and quickly chose the cheesecake. “I’ll give it a shot then”

“It’s a surprise to have met you here” Tomu said quietly from behind.

Yuka nodded. “Y-yeah, it is” she turned around again. “You did a great performance,” she mumbled under her breath, wanting to compliment the classmate but too shy to do so.

Tomu leaned in. “Sorry, I didn't hear that. Could you repeat it?”

Yuka could feel her face burn up. “That was a great performance… you playing the piano” she whispered.

“Oh, thank you” Tomu retreated from Yuka and gave a warm smile. “Well, I think you look beautiful today” she casually complimented as if she did it all the time. It came out so naturally and so sincerely.

Yuka’s face heated up even more. She looked down. “Thank you”

Tomu laughed. “You’re really cute, Yuka”

Yuka, we’re on a first name basis now? Yuka’s eyes widened and looked at Tomu who had the softest expression. She’s never seen such a kind Tomu in her life. “S-stop it…” she stuttered. “You’re embarrassing me…” she stopped and took a deep breath, “Tomu…” she felt a pat on her head. Tomu looked at her with gentle eyes and at that exact moment Yuka could feel her heart skip a beat.

Today really is a miracle, Yuka thought.

I'm so glad you mentioned that this is six chapters, because I would surely cry if it was a one-shot.
TanoTomu is definitely growing on me, so the more fics the better!
Well-written, well-done.

I'm IwaTano shipper but I'm fine with TanoTomu and I love how you deliver the story. It gives calm vibe and even if I can't imagine them being like that in real life *lol* but the characterization was good and believable.
Can't wait to see more updates on the story. :3

TanoTomu is the best

and lol at Tomu forever branded as a tsundere.

Thank you all for reading!
And, here's Chapter 2  :)

Chapter Two

“Late again… Tano”

Yuka gave a sheepish smile and bowed a few times. “Sorry” she apologized as she made her way to her desk, and as she walked passed Tomu she gave a quick glance at the girl. Tomu returned the glance and flashed a smile. Yuka quickly diverted her gaze, as she felt flustered again. Why does this keep happening?

Staring at the back of Tomu’s head the whole lesson, it can be confirmed that she utterly spaced out in class. But, class is boring and her head was filled with thoughts and question about Tomu. She couldn’t help herself as she drifted into her own thoughts. Staying focused in class is one of the biggest challenges in her life and she doesn’t plan to take up the challenge anytime soon either.

“Yuka…” a whisper.

Yuka snapped out of her little world and looked at the person calling her. “Ah, Tomu what is it?”

“It’s the paper for this morning’s pop quiz” Tomu informed. “Good luck”

Yuka took it and passed it back. “Wait, did you say good luck sarcastically?” she kicked the chair of the girl in front of her.

“No, well… Maybe” Tomu turned around with a grin.

“Hey!” Yuka hissed.

“Tano, what’s all the ruckus back there for?” the teacher asked. “This is test conditions now, you could get a zero for that”

“Sorry” Yuka apologized again as she kicked Tomu’s chair one last time out of frustration. Then, it hit her. Since when did I become so casual with Tomu? Yuka thought. And, once those thoughts kicked into gear, there goes her grades. Good-bye A and good-bye B, instead hello C and D. Hopefully she won’t drop down to an F, so she won't even think about it.

~

The nth sigh. Yuka couldn’t get Tomu off her mind and it was starting to really bother her. It was annoying how she couldn’t figure out the emotions she was feeling, and how this unfamiliar tug at the heart always happens when she makes eye contact with Tomu. Everything is out of ordinary and she anxious of what will happen.

“Hey, are you going to eat that?” Karen asked pointing at the bread that Yuka bought from the cafeteria quite a while ago.

Yuka shook her head. “Not hungry. You can have it”

“Okay then” Karen took the bread and opened the wrapping it was in, and then took a big bite. “I just had PE, so I’m starving” she glanced over to Yuka and frowned. “Hey, you okay over there?” she waved her hand before Yuka’s dazed eyes.

“Huh? Yeah, I’m fine. Just spacing out a lot recently” Yuka laughed it off as she tried to start a conversation. “I heard there’s a new nail salon in the area that opened recently. Want to check it out?”

Juri who was quietly eating her lunch looked up. “Hm, really? Why not then”

Karen nodded. “Sure”

Yuka gave a big smile and clapped her hands together. “Great, why not hang around a bit too since we’ll be out anyways?”

The two thought for a while. “I’m free until late tonight so it should be fine” Juri said.

Karen nodded in agreement from the side. “Same”

“Great! We haven’t hung out for ages, the three of us” Yuka was excited and already tossed her thoughts about Tomu to the back her head. All she needed was a little distraction. “I can’t wait until school ends now!”

“True” Juri agreed. “We’ve all being busy recently so…”

“Then, let’s go all out today!” Karen was pumped up and ready to roll.

~

“Ah, it began to rain” Yuka said as she looked outside at the heavy rain.

“Well, it is July” Karen took out an umbrella. “So, I’m always prepared”

“Oh, me too” Juri said revealing her new umbrella. “It’s just Yuka” she laughed.

Yuka gave a pout. “Hey, I can just share with one of you anyways”

“Well, it’s getting pretty late. I’ll probably head home now,” Karen said. She looked back at Yuka, “How are you getting home?”

“I live just around the area so… I’m walking”

“Then, I’m going by bus so I’ll accompany you home first” Karen suggested.

Juri nodded. “Same, I’m bus as well, but I’ll take you home with Karen first”

“No, it’s okay. I’ll just buy an umbrella,” Yuka said. “I’ll be fine”

“Eh… are you sure?” Karen asked with a concerned expression. “It’s not like it’ll trouble us or anything”

Yuka nodded firmly. “Really. It’s fine”

Karen just sighed, knowing how stubborn Yuka can be, she couldn’t do much to change the girl’s mind. “Fine, be careful though”

“Yep, I will” Yuka waved to the two. “See you tomorrow”

After the two were out of sight she quickly ran to the next closest shelter. She needed to move fast and it might warm her up too, since she forgot her jumper. First, she needed to find the closest convenience store and get an umbrella. Then, everything will be easier. She ran from one shelter to another trying her best to avoid as much rain as possible. “Ah, this is actually quite tiring…” she said to herself. She ran to a bus stop and stood there, rubbing her arms trying to produce some heat. Her eyes scanned for the next shelter and any convenience stores.

“You’ll catch a cold”

A voice came from the side. Yuka turned her head and at that moment she saw the person’s arm stretch over her shoulders and place a jacket on her. “Tomu…” Yuka didn’t know how to react. It’s Tomu again. She looked at the jacket then looked back at Tomu. “Wait, aren’t you cold then?”

Tomu smiled. “It’s fine, I fine with the cold”

“Oh…” Yuka just stared at the ground. “Wait… why are you here?” she asked shyly.

“We ran out of milk so my mum told me to go buy some” Tomu put her hand in her pocket, and the other held the umbrella. “My brother needs to drink milk before going to bed. It helps him sleep”

“You have a brother?”

Tomu nodded. “I have a little brother and a little sister” Tomu just looked out at the empty road. “Only the little sister’s blood related though”

“Eh?” Yuka wasn’t sure if this would turn personal or not. Maybe bad memories will be shared and she wasn’t sure if she was prepared for that.

Tomu laughed and turned to Yuka again. “It’s nothing dramatic. My mum remarried to Sakurai and now I have a stepbrother and stepfather. That’s all. We all get along too, it’s not like the dramas” she looked at Yuka for a while and the silence was calming. The rain pattered in the background and dampened the dimly lit road. It was a very simple yet beautiful scene.

“Do you have siblings?” Tomu finally spoke.

Yuka was too mesmerized by Tomu’s eyes again. It’s amazing that she still gets sucked into Tomu’s magnetic presence, especially Tomu’s deep eyes even in the dark where it’s hard to make proper eye contact. “Uh, no… I don’t”

Tomu just gave a toothy smile. “Ah, you must be spoilt then…” she said jokingly.

Yuka gave a pout. “No I’m not!” she playfully slapped Tomu. “Stop teasing me every time we talk”

“But it’s fun” Tomu responded.

Yuka continued to pout and act angry. We get along pretty well actually, she thought. She mentally slapped herself. What are you saying? She scolded inwardly. “Why are you so nice to me?” Yuka asked without realizing she just spoke out her thoughts. Upon realizing what she did she slapped mentally slapped herself again. Stupid Yuka, she repeated in her head.

Tomu just looked at Yuka. It was an awfully long gaze but neither of them was really bothered by it. It didn’t feel awkward or anything, it just felt… normal. Yuka gulped in anticipation for the reply. She was nervous and probably has never felt this nervous in her life. She clenched her fists as the tension rose. Tomu stepped closer and Yuka flinched. What is this? Yuka was going into overdrive. Her brain is working too much; it won’t be able to hold on any longer.

Tomu leaned in. “Hm…” she began and at this point Yuka was heating up from the close proximity she had with Tomu. Tomu smiled. “Because I’ve taken a liking in you”

“Eh?” Yuka was taken a back by the reply. “You have taken a liking in me?”

“Well, a better way to put it is that you interest me I guess…” Tomu patted Yuka on the head, just like that time during the party. “I feel inclined to you”

“You’re teasing me right now” Yuka said trying to cover up her embarrassment and somewhat joy from hearing that. She poked the taller girl. “You’re playing with me”

Tomu shrugged. “Maybe I am”

Yuka could feel her heart drop at that phrase. Was she disappointed that Tomu could have been joking? Did she secretly want to hear that Tomu did take a liking in her? And, the biggest question is that, could it be that she has actually taken a liking in Tomu?

Yuka laughed ignoring all of her thoughts. “Like I said, stop teasing me already”

“Okay, okay. Then, why don’t we get you home first” Tomu grabbed Yuka’s arm and tugged the shorter girl closer to her. “Come closer or you’ll get even more wet from the rain”

Yuka obediently did as told. She was still processing this whole situation. Am I really sharing an umbrella with Tomu right now? She was happy, deep down. But, she couldn’t show it. All she could do was smile, and a big smile did she wear.

“Where do you live?” Tomu asked.

“Ah, just a few blocks away. I’ll tell you the way so don’t worry” Yuka said.

“Okay” Tomu looked as Yuka flinched every time a car drove by. She wrapped her arms around Yuka waist and gently pulled her over. “I’ll walk on the outside”

Yuka felt her face heat up again. Tomu always makes her feel so different. She could feel her heart beating faster, and she wasn’t sure what it was exactly. She shook her head. No time to think about such useless stuff, Yuka told herself mentally. She slowly turned to catch a glimpse of Tomu and quickly looked back to the ground.

Could this be some kind of message? She thought. Why is she bumping into Tomu so much? The mysteries of life, is all Yuka could come up with.

Chapter Three

“Did you get home alright?” Karen asked.

Yuka nodded. “Yep”

“Did you end up getting an umbrella or did you just run?” Juri asked.

“Eh, you guys don’t need to question that much” Yuka said. “Tomu walked me home” it slipped. She covered her mouth and looked at her two shocked friends. She gave a smile and slowly began standing up and preparing to run from the questions in line for her. This is it. Yuka looked at the two who were like lions staring at his prey. “Dash” she whispered to herself, and away she went.

“WAIT!” Karen shouted from behind as she began chasing Yuka with Juri.

Yuka turned the corner sharply due to the high speed she was going at, she really didn’t want to explain her relationship with Tomu. She’s not even clear about it herself, as to what kind of relationship she has with Tomu. She glanced behind her shoulder. The two were still on full throttle. It’d be hard to loose them. This could be the end of the road. Yuka closed her eyes preparing to face her two friends.

“No running in the corridors” a voice echoed.

All three stopped in their positions and turned to see whom it was. Speak of the devil it was Tomu. Yuka switched her attention back and forth from Tomu to her friends. Tomu was calm as usual but her friends were trying some kind of telepathy with her. Yuka could tell from their eyes, but too bad they weren’t telepathic. “Sorry” Yuka was the first to speak out of the three. She could feel Karen and Juri watching the situation carefully.

Tomu smiled. “That’s alright, just remember next time”

Karen nudged Juri. “Did you see that? Tomu just smiled”

Yuka glared at Karen before walking up to Tomu. “Thanks by the way… for taking me home last night”

“No problem”

“Oh, I’ll return you’re jacket tomorrow. It’s being washed so…”

Juri nudged Karen. “Jacket? Why does Yuka have Tomu’s jacket?”

“How am I supposed to know?” Karen hissed back. “Maybe something romantic happened…” she wiggled her eyebrows suggestively.

Tomu looked over at the two who were whispering amongst themselves. “Are they your friends?”

Yuka nodded. “Yeah…”

Tomu walked up. “I’m not sure if you know already or not, but I’m Muto Tomu. Nice to meet you”

Karen and Juri immediately straightened their posture. “Oh, I’m Iwata Karen”

“I’m Takahashi Juri”

Tomu stayed in silence and just looked at them. Karen and Juri froze; they felt paralyzed under Tomu’s gaze. It was the first time they’ve felt Tomu presence personally like this. They gave a glance to Yuka who was standing behind Tomu. All they got back was a blank look.

“Tomu” Yuka called.

Tomu turned. Karen and Juri gave a sigh a relief. They returned to observing the relationship between Yuka and Tomu. They seem to be close to a certain extent. Classmates don’t randomly have each other’s jackets nor walk each other home.

“What is it?” Tomu asked.

Yuka gulped and gave a quick look at her two friends. “What exactly is our relationship?” she asked.

Karen and Juri silently gasped. That was blunt.

“What do you want us to be?” Tomu asked back.

“I don’t know…” Yuka said quietly.

“Let’s just say…” Tomu gave a smile, but it was different this time. It felt a bit off, but maybe it was just Yuka’s imagination.

“We’re friends then” Tomu finished.

~

“Hey, dad” Yuka called.

“What is it?” he looked up from the sofa and gave his daughter an expression, telling her to continue.

“Um, do you know much about Sakurai’s daughter? The older one”

Yuka’s father just tilted his head. “I know that she’s a very smart girl and is a talented pianist. I don’t know much though” he paused. “Oh, but she does go to your school”

Yuka nodded. “Yeah, she’s in my class”

“Really?” her father’s eyes lit up. “Are you getting along with her?”

“Well, recently, I guess we’re starting to get closer” Yuka said.

“Good, she’s someone I approve of completely” her father gave his thoughts and grinned. “Tomu would be a good influence, plus she’s a nice girl”

Yuka just nodded. “Yeah…”

She couldn’t get what happened at school out of her head. Why did Tomu’s smile seem different when she said that they were friends? Isn’t it normally a good thing? Yuka couldn’t help but feel bothered by it, but at the same time she feels she’s just overthinking. She was definitely tied between her mind and her heart now. They were telling her different things and it’s starting to make her more short-tempered than usual. A sigh. She really didn’t know anymore, so she decided to stop thinking about it for now.

“Why do you ask?” Yuka’s father asked suddenly.

“Eh?” Yuka snapped out of her thoughts. “Oh, I was just wondering if I could get to know her a bit better because we just got close. I was wondering if you knew any trivia like stuff”

“Oh, well if that’s the case, I’ve heard a few things from Sakurai” her father informed.

“Really?”

“Yeah, I heard that she knows quite a bit about professional wrestling because Tiger Mask is a family friend”

“Eh?” that was surprising, Yuka was a bit shocked for sure. “Wrestling?”

“Yeah, but I’m not sure if she’s a fan of the sport. She just knows a lot about it because of Tiger Mask” her father smiled. “And, her father also complains quite a bit about her tsundere tendencies” he laughed. “Isn’t that kind of cute?”

Yuka smiled. “Well, she is… a bit”

~

“Ah, Tomu, you’re back”

Tomu looked into the lounge and smiled. “Oh, Tiger, you’re here again”

The wrestler laughed heartily. “Are you happy to see me?”

Tomu nodded. “Yeah, although you come almost every other week”

Tiger Mask pouted. “Tomu, don’t be mean”

“Don’t pout, it doesn't suit your image” she deadpanned.

“Ah, so mean” the wrestler whined. “Tomu~”

“Stop it, I’m going to study now” she flashed a smile and went upstairs. Dropping her bag down, she plopped herself onto her bed and sighed. The day was a bit tiring with all the work from the student council, school work and… Yuka. Sure, she was taken back when Yuka asked about what their relationship exactly was and wasn’t sure what to say.

“Ah, it’s good it didn’t slip out” she said to herself. She needed to distract herself. She went up and sat by her desk, took out her math textbook and began to study. Normally, everything she studies go into her head but this time it kind of went in all blurred. She wasn’t concentrating enough. Looking at time, she stretched. “It’s nearly dinner”

Only minutes passed and she heard her mum’s voice. “Tomu!”

“Coming!” Tomu called back. She went downstairs and sat down for dinner. Her little brother and sister came in shortly after. “Ah, you two should go wash your hands after playing outside like that” Tomu told the two. The two nodded and went to wash their hands.

“Ah, Tomu’s such a good sister. She’s grown up fast”

Tomu gave the person who said that a glance. “Tiger, you sound like my dad”

“Well, I have seen you since a very young age. I’m like an uncle,” he said proudly.

Tomu handed him his bowl of rice. “Sure, whatever”

“We’re back” Tomu’s younger siblings called.

“Your rice is already on the table” Tomu said.

“Oh, since you’re at the age” Tiger Mask began. “Do you have a boyfriend or someone you like?”

Tomu remained silent for a while. The person that popped into her head was Yuka, but there was no way that’s right. They’re both girls, and they just started talking recently. “No” she replied.

“Really?” Tiger said. “You know what they say love makes a girl prettier”

“It’s okay” Tomu finally sat by the table with her bowl of rice, after serving everyone else. “I don’t need stuff like that yet”

“Eh…”

“Plus, I’m not interested at the moment either” Tomu explained. “So, I won’t be getting one anytime soon”

“Okay then…”Tiger said sadly. “Let’s eat then” he’s energy returned at the thought of a meal. “Your mother’s cooking always looks so nice”

Tomu just sat quietly and ate. Why did I think of Yuka? She thought. “Weird…”

“Hey, Tomu, I’ll teach you some wrestling moves after dinner again” Tiger said with a big smile.

Tomu quickly diverted her mind to the table. “It’s alright, I’ll pass this time” she rejected.

“But, I was thinking of teaching throws today” Tiger said with a pout.

“I already said, don’t pout. It doesn’t really suit you to act cute”

Everyone on the table just laughed. “Tomu, aren’t you a bit too cold?” her father joked.

“I’m always like this”

Enjoy Chapter 4~  :)

Chapter Four

Tano tried her best to concentrate in class this time, only because she needed a distraction from the girl who sat right in front of her. The teacher’s even shocked by Yuka’s level of respect today. It’s a rare sight, so the teacher is taking full advantage of the situation right now and trying to teach as much as possible. Even though Yuka’s trying her best and succeeding overall, she still can’t help but steal a glance of Tomu every now and then. It’s as if it’s an instinct for her now.

“Yuka, can you answer this question please?”

Yuka looked at the teacher then at the question he was pointing at. Lucky, she thought to herself. It’s something she understood. She nodded and walked up to the board. She took a piece of chalk and started to write down her working out for the equation. After she finished, she paused and scanned her answer to make sure everything made sense then placed the chalk down and looked at the teacher. The teacher was beaming with joy as a smile was given to Yuka. “Correct, see you can do it if you put your mind to it”

“Thanks” Yuka went back to her seat and on the way back she glanced at Tomu. The girl wasn’t even looking up, it seemed as if Tomu was just spacing out at her notebook. Yuka gave a worried expression before seating down.

“Muto, answer this” the teacher picked on Tomu this time.

Tomu looked up and seemed confused for a second but recovered so fast, Yuka doubted that many people noticed. “Sure” Tomu said as she stood up and walked up to the front. She took the same chalk that Yuka used and gave a quiet sigh before writing. Yuka wasn’t sure if anyone else heard the sigh or not but it was very clear for her. Tomu wrote her answer slower than usual but no one was bothered by it. She put the chalk down and stared at the blackboard. “I’m done,” she said softly.

The teacher took a look. “Good, take a seat”

Tomu paced herself back as she maneuvered through the rows of tables and chairs, trying not to knock anyone’s bags. She looked at Yuka quickly before sitting down. Yuka caught that glance. It was different. Yuka stared at the girl’s back and heaved a sigh. She wanted to tap the girl’s shoulders, but couldn’t bring herself to do it. She wanted to talk to the girl but stopped herself. Instead, she sat obediently and listened to class.

“So, we’ll move onto the next topic now” the teacher began.

~

“Let’s skip the rest of school,” Karen said out of the blue.

“What?” Yuka asked surprised. “Why?”

Karen shrugged. “Juri’s away today and you seem bothered by something. So, why not skip and just play for a bit” she smiled. “It might cheer you up”

Yuka just chuckled. “You’re always so caring aren’t you?” she said. “I guess we could” Yuka agreed and just like that Karen grabbed the girl’s wrist and dragged her away.

“Let’s go from the back,” Karen suggested.

“Sure” Yuka nodded. Now, that she thought about it, Karen’s always being there for her since they were young. It was intimidating at first in elementary school though, because Karen was the daughter of the founder of Empire Hotels. One of the leading hotel chains from Japan but then again, now Yuka’s tied up with the eldest daughter of Sakurai Corporations. The biggest financial body of Japan and the place her father works for. Maybe it was her fate to be surrounded by such high-class people.

“Let’s go to the karaoke first” Karen was all pumped up for the afternoon. “I haven’t gone for ages”

“Sure, just don’t go to the fancy ones,” Yuka said with a faint smile.

“No worries, my treat” Karen stated casually. “You just sit back and enjoy”

“That’s not—” she was cut off before she could finish.

“Don’t worry about it” Karen said. She knew Yuka was going to reject the offer of being treated but it really isn’t much. Karen wanted to treat her today, after so long. “Just relax for today, okay?”

Karen’s voice calmed Yuka; it was the voice that cheered her up since childhood, the voice that encouraged her during hard times, the voice that cheered her on from a distance, it was a voice that Yuka treasured very much. “Okay…” she gave into Karen’s persistence. “Just this one time though”

Karen gave a wide grin. “Yeah, yeah, you know you love being treated”

“I don’t!” Yuka exclaimed.

Karen laughed. “Whatever you say”

“Where are you two going?” an icy voice asked from behind.

The two turned around. “Tomu?” Yuka said.

Karen stood in front. “We’re just going out, nothing much”

“School’s still on”

“I know” Karen’s gaze was intense. “Are you the daughter of Sakurai?”

Yuka was taken a back. How did Karen know? Wait; could this have something to do with the hotels and Tomu’s corporation? Yuka wasn't sure where this conversation was headed but she didn’t have the rights to butt in either.

Tomu raised an eyebrow. “Could it be…” she changed her train of thoughts and continued differently then she intended to before. “Do you know me?”

“We met a few days back didn’t we? Not that I expect you to remember me anyways” Karen said with a scoff.

“I know you, Iwata Karen” Tomu said.

“I’m flattered”

What’s this hostility? Yuka thought. Didn’t they meet just a day or so ago? Shouldn’t they be strangers basically? What going on? Yuka’s mind was filled with questions.

“You changed a lot though, I must say” Karen said with a scoff. “You’re such a good child now”

Tomu tilted her head and furrowed her eyebrows. She looked over at Yuka and was hesitant to continue but did anyways. “Did I…” she paused effectively. “Bully you before?”

“No, it wasn’t bullying. It was just family competitiveness,” Karen said. “You were just relieving stress, weren’t you? But, it’s all good now that your father changed”

Tomu inhaled deeply. She knew now, what Karen wanted. “What do you want?”

“What I want? I want you to stay away from Yuka”

Yuka’s eyes widened. “This was about me the whole time?” her voice was quiet and wasn’t heard by anyone but herself. She looked over to Tomu, who seemed to be clenching her jaws.

“You’re parents are thinking of getting you engaged” Tomu stated. “They won’t accept this”

She gave Tomu a long stare before turning to Yuka. “Yuka, I…”

Tomu could feel her chest burning as she glared at Karen. Her fists tightened, she wanted to hit something. She wanted to scream. But, all she could do was stand and watch as Karen said the words.

“I love you” Karen said. “You’ve being bullied because of your sexuality before and I know you haven’t told your parents either. And, it may be hard for you but… I really do love you. I was planning to tell you tonight. I wanted to skip school to tell. Please, accept my confession”

Tomu could feel the warm tears swell up in her eyes but she blinked them back. She took a step forward and another. Her feet carried her to Yuka’s side. She saw Yuka turn to look at her. She could feel Karen’s hostile eyes on her but she didn’t care. She reached her arms out and pulled Yuka in. And that’s when it happened. Yuka found Tomu’s soft lips press onto hers passionately. Time stopped for the three. Yuka’s eyes widened and Karen’s grip on her wrist loosened.

Tomu pulled back and looked into the shorter girl’s eyes. “If I asked you, ‘do I love you?’ what would you want to answer? If you asked me... I would want to say yes”

Yuka couldn’t say a word. It’s not everyday you get two confessions within the span of a minute. She was stunned and still processing her situation. She didn’t know what to do. Karen was her childhood friend and honestly at one stage she did have a crush on her. But, Tomu just jumped into the picture and everything changed. Her world was turned upside down.

“I…” Yuka gulped. “I think I’ll head home for today”

~

“Oh, Yuka, you’re home early today” Yuka’s mother said from the living room.

“I felt a bit sick” Yuka explained hurriedly as she rushed to her room. “I’ll be resting for now, call me for dinner”

“Okay!” her mother called.

Yuka quickly shut the door and didn’t even bother turning on the lights or raising the curtains. She just rested her back on the door and let the tears she held back the whole time finally flow down. Her legs gave way as her back slid against the door. She buried her head in her arms, which her hugging her knees.

All the memories of Karen and Tomu flooded back. She remembered how Karen protected her from all the bullies. How Tomu accompanied her back home and made her laugh on the way. How Karen would always know what she was feeling without being told. How Tomu would save her when a teacher was getting her in trouble. How Karen would spontaneously take her out on the long and dull days. How Tomu would be bad at expressing her emotions. How Karen would be blunt about her emotions. How Tomu would seem cold but still remember everything she liked. How Karen would always put her first. The two were like opposites, but why did they fall for the same person?

Yuka couldn’t forget her feelings for Karen from before, but she can’t ignore her growing feelings for Tomu now. All this was too much for Yuka to handle in such a short time. Why is it that after Yuka was about to try and live like everyone else, the two had to confess to her? No, she slapped herself. She needed to remain positive. She needs to go back to school tomorrow and act normal around the two. They’ll know that she needs time to think. They’ll understand.

She stood up and nodded to herself. “Okay, Yuka. You need to do this right. Just be true to yourself,” she said to herself. “Just act like normal around them, everything will be fine” she wiped her tears and opened the room lights.

“It’s all good”
