Chapter 2. Since When, Did I Keep on Searching for Her?

A month had passed.
I did my job well, and I’ve already received 2 slice of cakes from Yuko.
But something kept on bothering me.
Kashiwagi Yuki…
That senpai… I wonder why I would find myself searching for her?
My job is to tell Yuko about Yuu-kun, but why am I not focused on that easy task?
For some unknown reasons, my eyes are always searching for Kashiwagi-senpai.
Each time I go out from my class, I would always look out to the window where I could see her class.
Sometimes, I could see her talking with her friends, but she’s usually inside her classroom. And that means I can’t see her.
Well, it’s not that I have a business with her… It’s just… I want to look at her.
I don’t really know what her voice sounds like, I don’t know about her personality, I don’t know anything about her.
I’m just… interested in her looks, I guess?
But of course, I want to know more about her.
I kept on asking about her to Jurina, Aika, Paruru or anybody that’s my friend.
But their answers were almost the same.
“She’s one of our school’s 5 princess” is what they would say.
I’m starting to wonder who the heck these 5 princess are…
“Uuh, this is stupid” I scratch my hair and sighed. “I haven’t seen her for 5 days…” I said to myself.
Suddenly, someone tapped my shoulder. I turned and found Jurina with her mischievous smile.
“Ne, Mayu-chan. Let’s skip together? I’ll show you something you’ve been yearning for!”
Interested by her last sentence, I agreed and decided to not attend the class to follow her.
“You better buy me lunch if it’s not interesting”
“Sure. I’m positive that you would like it~” Jurina grabbed my hand and dragged me to the rooftop.
Creak~The door made a weird sound as it was gently opened by Jurina.
I took a look to the left and right, but there was nothing that really took my interest.
“…um, what’s so interesting here?”
“Not here, Mayu. There!” Jurina dragged me to the edge of the building which was boarded with the metal gate thing.
“What? About how big the school is? That’s stupid”
Indeed, the view was awesome. But it wasn’t enough for me.
“Take a closer look” Jurina pointed towards a certain class.
I followed the direction of her finger, when I finally realized…
“Uwah, SUGOII!! I can see her clearly from here!!”
My heart was beating faster. Seeing her has really made me happier!
“I know, right~? I can also see Rena-chan from here!” Jurina smiled and pointed a little bit to the right where Rena was sitting.
That’s right, what we’re looking is at Rena’s class… and also, Kashiwagi Yuki’s class.
“Oh, they’re classmates huh…”
Jurina kept on staring at Rena while I stared at Yuki.
…
My smile turned into a frown.
Since when was I grinning?
Not just that.
But why am I grinning?
Why am I this happy…?
I turned my view to Jurina and found her looking at Rena with a smile not different as mine before.
Why? Why are we happy by looking at someone who barely knows about us?
I looked at Yuki again.
She was writing on her notebook… and she looks… very beautiful.
My heart was beating faster and faster.
But it was also aching for an unknown reason.
I pressed my hand in front of my aching chest.
“Jurina”
“Yeah?” she didn’t look away from Rena.
I took a breath and asked something, which might’ve been an answer to my unknown feelings as well.
“… What are your feelings for Rena?”
“…” Jurina looked at me for a while, then chuckled.
She looked back towards Rena and smiled.
“I love her, Mayu…” her smile was a smile that I’ve never seen from Jurina. It was soft, loving, yet full of sadness.
She suddenly straighten her right arm, as if she was trying to reach Rena.
“My love is a love that’s out of my reach”
…
When I come into situations like this, I would’ve usually shut up and not ask anything… but screw that, its Jurina here.
“Shut up, player. You have no rights to say that” I harshly gave her the cold shoulder.
Jurina was surprised, but she answered with another small chuckle.
“You’re right… I’m a player”
Silence came in.
Huh? There’s something wrong here, isn’t there?
Why is she acting so innocent??
Did she forgot about all those girls she dated?
This girl beside me isn’t the Jurina I know.
…
Man, she should’ve answered with a laugh or something.
That answer she gave me is making me feel guilty!
Ok, damn, I do feel guilty.
“Fuck, thanks for giving me a bowl of guilt, Jurina”
Jurina made a dry chuckle again. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to”
“…”
“…”
Another silence grew. But it wasn’t as awkward as the first one. It was more… normal I guess?
“Say, are you not going to ask anything?” Jurina kept her head looking forward, but her eyeballs were narrowing. Making a peek towards me.
I needed a couple of second to think about my answer. A choice of lying, or telling the truth.
An answer that would suit my everyday attitude towards Jurina… would be the truth, right?
“I don’t give a damn about other people’s problem” I said without looking at her.
That went out a little too harsh, didn’t it?
“B-but… at least, I’ll treat you. To maybe, make you feel better” My cheeks were bright pink as I said that.
Of course, Jurina was surprised again. But her expression quickly turned into a softer one.
“That answer really suits you!” Jurina smiled and stretched her arms to the air. She let her body fall back to the hard ground and laid on top of it. Her eyes were looking straight to the vast sky.
“The sky is so beautiful…” She suddenly blabbered a random shit.
“Hey, you’re the first person who didn’t ask about it. So, why don’t you be the first person to know about it?” Jurina who was still lying on the floor turned her view to me. She looked at me with a soft, yet serious look.
“… Sure”
And so, Jurina told me her story… which I honestly found annoying.
Jurina, isn’t actually a player. She’s just bad at refusing someone. And she can’t change that bad habit of her. By an unkown, complicated story that I don’t want to hear about, Jurina had accidently learnt the art of flattery. Completed with her beautiful yet handsome looks, and her will to not reject anyone, Jurina had become a player.
“You’re annoying, you know that?” I gave a light slap on her face.
“Uuh… I guess I am” she didn’t try to remove my hand which was still covering her eyes.
“About a week ago, when I was walking at Shibuya. A lot of young woman were asking me for company. I was confused. I had a promise with my friend, but I was about to be dragged by a random girl” Jurina suddenly wrapped my hand with hers and gently gave it more pressure, making me covering her eyes.
“Suddenly, Rena came and saved me. With a clear voice, she told those women’s that they were bothering me” Jurina grinned as she was talking about her past.
“That time, Rena looked really cool!” she continued.
With my hand covering half of her face, I couldn’t really see her expression. But I have a feeling that she’s actually smiling right now.
“Why don’t you ask her out?”
“…I’d love to, but I told you I’m bad at rejecting people. I don’t want Rena to be heartbroken”
Hearing her answer, I flicked in anger and gripped Jurina’s head with more pressure. “Well aren’t you over confidence”
“Ouch, ouch, ouch!!! Wait, Mayu, stop it idiot!” she quickly changed her position from lying, to sitting as she tried to release my death grip.
Seeing her struggling so much, I decided to let go.
“Uwaaa… my head” She mumbled as she massage her head.
Damn, I’m such a sadist.
“…How do you know that Rena will be the one who’s going to get her a heartbreak?” I asked.
“Of course by some researches!” She answered with confidents fueling her voice.
“…You’re an idiot. An annoying, idiotic child” I gave her harsh comments.
“Uwah, are you made out from mean, cold, and evil??”
“Hah! With your attitude like that, I hope that you’ll be the one with a broken heart!”
“Mean! You’re super mean and super cold! Damn Cyborg!!”
“… Pssht, that’s why you’re an idiot!” I turned away.
“…If your love is out of your reach, I’ll make you a stair until you can reach it…” I said in a whispering voice, but loud enough for Jurina to hear it.
I could feel blood rushing to my cheek’s because of my rare attitude of helping someone.
I usually wouldn’t offer help to others, but since Jurina here is my friend …
“… M-Mayu-chan…” her eyes glimmered in hope.
“Ehem!” After the blush from my face had faded away, I looked back at Jurina. “Promise me, Jurina. You’ll do your best to reject people. And when you master it, you’ll ask Rena out”
“Un, it’s a promise, Mayu!!” she smiled full of confidence.
I smiled back. It’s better seeing Jurina smiling like this.
“Great!! Don’t forget free lunch until a month, ok?” I joked, recovering my usual cold image.
“Evil!!”

In the end, I couldn’t find out the reason I kept on looking at Yuki.
I thought my feelings toward Yuki was the same as Jurina’s feeling towards Rena, but it turned out that Jurina loves Rena. There’s no way I’m in love with Kashiwagi-senpai, right? We’re both girls…
And I don’t intend to date anybody.
“Mayu your so meaaann” Yuu-kun suddenly wailed. “You left me alone at the class. It was so boring you know? Next time, bring me if you’re going to skip”
“Meh” I answered coldly.
“Sheez, so cold Mayu… Oh well, I ate half of your snack at class~”
“!?”
I ran to my desk -which was beside Yuu-kun’s desk- and opened my bag. There was a half-eaten pocky.
“You!!” I rifled a hundred slap at Yuu-kun.

“Mayu, let’s watch anime again” Yuu-kun wrapped his arm around my neck. “I’ll buy you some pocky?” He gave me a wink.
“I won’t be lured by pocky, you idiot” I slapped him for the nth time. “Anyway, I have a promise with Jurina” I continued.
“Eeeh… buuhh” he puffed his cheeks.
From a distance, I can see Jurina walking with some girls.
“Ne, ne, Jurina let’s go to a karaoke?” a girl tugged her uniform.
“Kya~ that sounds great! What do you think, Jurina?”
“Eeh… I guess-”
“Matsui Jurina!!” I walked towards her. Like a mother scolding her children, I pulled her ear. Tiptoeing a little, I yelled right at her ear. “Don’t tell me you forgot our promise!!”
“Uwa, it hurts, ouch, ouch, ouccchhhh” Again, Jurina received my deadly attacks.
“Owww… sorry Mayu-chan, I’ll go with you” Jurina turned her back, then apologize. “S-sorry girls, I can’t… I mean, I have a promise with my dear friend here. I’m really sorry!”
With a frown, the girls wave goodbye. They walked away without a single complain.
“What? You had trouble rejecting them? They didn’t even complain!”
Jurina scratched her cheek. “It’s because you’re the one approaching me, Mayu”
“Huh? What’s with me?” I was confused by her statement.
“Cyborg Princess, Watanabe Mayu…”
“The heck? I mean, seriously? Cyborg Princess? That’s… so like me” I could only look down and accept my fate, being called as a Cyborg Princess.
But, wait, Princess?
“What do you mean by Princess?” I held on to Jurina’s shoulder and asked again. “What the heck do you mean by Princess?”
“Jeez Mayu, you’re as dense as hell. Can’t you notice that you’re on of the 5 princess of our school?” Jurina was staring at me like those ‘are-you-fucking-kidding-me’ memes.
“P-princess… me?” I questioned myself. Man, how the heck could an otaku like me be a freaking princess?!
“Your looks are great, Mayu. It’s just your personality that’s like shit”
“Like yours aren’t!”
“…well, yeah…”
“…pfft”
“Ahahahha~”
We started to laugh at each other. “It seems like they judge us by our looks huh” Jurina said.
“…Wait you’re a Princess?” I asked.
“… Uh, yeah… No… wait, what? Do you think a freaking Kissing Monster belongs to the Princess side?” She answered with a question.
“Pfft... Kissing- pfttt. MONSTER!! Bwahaha!!” I laughed, and laughed, and heck I surely laughed my ass out there.
“Uwah, you meanie!” Jurina shed a fake tear due her stupid nickname.
Talking about Princess and Names, a question grew on my mind. “Hey, tell me all the Princess”
Hearing my question, Jurina answered with a happy smile. “Kojima Haruna is the Airhead Princess. And your Yuki is called, ‘Modern Yamato Nadeshiko’ … she’s kind of like a couple with Rena-chan here, since Rena-chan is only called ‘Yamato Nadeshiko’”
“…err, ok… There’s me. So what about the fifth?” I asked for the last one.
“Atsuko Maeda… isn’t really a Princess. She’s actually called the Queen”
“Holy, I never knew our school was this weird…?”
“Hah! It’s because you don’t give a damn care about others! Talking about Princess, our school also have Prince’s you know? I’m one of them!”
“… You are??! Well that’s a shock!”
“Shut up! Yuuta as well. He’s called Bocchan, since he suits the role of a younger brother… speaking of Yuuta, is he going with us as well?” Jurina looked at Yuuta who was waiting for me at a fair distance.
“Oh right, let me ask him first, Kissing-Monster-Prince-kun” I made some steps toward Yuu-kun.
“Kissing Monster Prince?!” Jurina could only stare at me with a shocked face.
I did some light hop while heading towards Yuu-kun.
So Yuu-kun is a Prince huh…
I guess ‘Young Master’ does suit him.
As I was getting near, I waved my arm. “Hey Yuu-kun, are you going with-”
“…”
“…”
“…”
“O-Oi, Cyborg, What’s wrong?” Jurina who was suddenly beside me shoved my shoulder. It didn’t affect me because I was still paralyzed… Paralyzed by none other than the beautiful goddess walking out from the shoe locker towards the gate.
That’s right, Kashiwagi Yuki-senpai is walking out from the building, and my eyes are glued on to her.
Looking at her was such a blessing for me!
I don’t know why…
I just can’t stop.
“Oi Mayu, your face is red” Without a single sight of hesitation, Yuu-kun pulled my arm and put his forehead on mine.
“!?”
“Uwa, are you sick? I think you have a fever you know?”
Having my vision being blocked my Yuu-kun’s sudden act, I was able to stop myself staring at her. But now, she’s the one looking at me. Well, not only her, but almost everyone was looking at us.
By all of the sudden stares, I felt my face become redder.
She’s looking at me. She’s looking at me. She’s looking at me. She’s looking at me.

Kashiwagi Yuki-senpai is looking at me in this position???!! Ok, I am so out of control!!!
“Yah!!” Jurina suddenly pushed Yuu-kun away from me.
As if I was a master that was about to be attacked by a stranger.
My pet dog , Jurina, kept me away from Yuu-kun. She kept on barking at him, looking him as an enemy.
“What was that for??” Yuu-kun didn’t understand at all.
“For suddenly being so touchy with her!” Jurina barked.
“Huh? I was just checking her temperature, idiot!”
“The one who calls others idiot are the real idiot!! Idiot!!!”
“You just called me an idiot!! You’re the idiot!”
“Who’re you calling idiot?! You’re the one who first called me Idiot!!”
And so, the two kept on idiotically fight while I was… still being stared by the other students. Of course, that includes Kashiwagi Yuki-senpai.
“Hey, did you see that??”
“I thought they were twins??”
“They look great together!”
“Aren’t they siblings?”
“They’re so sweet!!”
“Kyaa, Kissing Monster and Obocchan are fighting over the Cyborg Princess!”
“I told you they were dating!”Whispers was heard from every direction.
Does that mean… they think of Yuu-kun and I as lovers?

I lift my head and found Kashiwagi-senpai staring at me in disbelieve.
Her eyes, widen in surprise and also… pain.
That’s right. Kashiwagi-senpai likes Yuu-kun…
That’s why she’s staring at me like this…
“…”
I could see her clasping her hand into a fist.
She then looked down. It’s like she’s trying to hide all her feelings right now…
Her right hand moved in front of her chest…
She kept on looking to the ground.
But then, I realized…
Her shoulders were shivering.
A small, drop of tear fell from her cheek.
She’s crying.
My heart stings in pain as I saw tears flowing from her eyes.
I want to reach her. I want to tell her that Yuu-kun doesn’t have any special relationship with me.
Yet… my throat feels so dry.
I can’t move.
“Yuki!!” Matsui Rena was running towards her.
In seconds, Kashiwagi-senpai’s hand was held by Rena’s. She forcefully dragged her out towards the school gate.
Before vanishing from my sight, Matsui Rena who was still holding Kashiwagi-senpai’s hand, turned her head and looked at me with a furious glare.
She continued to walk away with stomps full of rage and anger.

… I see.
The reason she’s crying…
It’s all my fault, huh…
It’s because I’m too close with Yuu-kun…
…
My heart is aching.
It hurts.
I can’t stand this anymore.
“I’m going home” I left the two and run away.
Passing by all the stares, I felt a tear falling down to my cheek.
