What have I done? I made u guys waiting, right? Gomen.
I could just say ‘I was busy with works’ or ‘my study took over my time’ as excuses but no!! I was just being lazy. Somehow, lately, I always fell asleep in front of my Laptop and then my laptop ended up in ‘sleep’ mode. Hoho. As a result, we both slept peacefully hugging each other. LOL. Clueless Sat Night
Part 3
Rena couldn’t hold her laughter at her cousin’s story of mistaking Jun’s house as her house. Rena was fully acknowledged that this kind of accident wasn’t new. This happened quite often actually. The most memorable event was when Rena’s classmates in junior-high planned to gave her a surprise on her birthday but ended up knocking on Jun’s door. But the surprise kept going on thanks to Jun since he decided to help Rena’s classmates’ plan and took part in the surprise plan as well. And thanks to Jun too, the next day Rena’s bag was full of love letters from her classmates directed to Jun. Since they weren’t attending same school, Rena was appointed by her friends as a carrier pigeon for their letters. Seems like he caught her classmates’ hearts that day.
She shook her head vigorously as her cousin’s pout getting longer and longer. “Stop laughing, Rena. It’s your fault for not giving us the proper address.”
Rena tried to stop her laughter as she saw Churi’s annoyed face. “I already gave you the proper one.”
“Churi misread the ‘green’ to ‘gray’, that’s why,” answered Airi who had just come out from the shower.
“But I also told you the number, right? You should’ve checked it too before entering someone’s prop. Beside, how could someone misread ‘green’ as ‘grey’?”
“Being clumsy like usual, our Churi was,” Airi approached Churi and patted her shoulder.
“Mou… Are you ganging up on me?” Churi pouted and gave them her back, a routine for Churi when she’s sulking. However, this only made the other two laughed more. Hearing them laughing more just made Churi sulked more. “Enough. I’m going back to America. And you, Mr. Furukawa, I’ll report you to Papa!” She turned to take a glance at Airi and backed them again. The other two smirked at each other seeing the sulking Churi.
“Am I a criminal or something? Hey, it’s your fault too, Rena-chan. You should’ve warned us that there’s another Matsui living next door so that this afternoon’s incident won’t happen,” voiced Airi, complaining to Rena as he realized it’s time to take side on Churi before she got offended. Well, it’s not like she’s going to go back to America for real, but sometimes Churi could be such a spoiled child and told her Papa that Airi made her upset, and yeah, Airi was enough of Churi’s Papa’s speech for taking care of Churi and blah blah. Little did Airi know that actually Churi’s Papa was tired of his own daughter’s complaint and just threw everything on Airi. Meh. That Takayanagi-old-man.
Rena watched them in understanding but she wanted to tease her cousin more. “Mou… Airi-kun… You used to be always on my side before and what now? You take side on Churi,” Rena pouted. “Am I not important to you anymore?” Now, who is sulking?

Churi turned to Rena and glared at her. Rena just smirked as she noticed the blush on Churi’s face despite she puffed her cheeks and acting angry all the way to Rena. Airi showed a silent giggle at Rena before replying, “Of course you’re important for me, Rena-chan. Always.” Rena crossed her arms and replied, “That’s a lie. Churi is more important for you now. I knew it since you always taking care of her and being her guardian all the time since her 17th birthday. Look, she’s blushing now.” Rena didn’t hold her giggle now and pointed at Churi. Airi turned to Churi and yes, it’s clear that Churi is blushing. Knowing this, Airi couldn’t help but getting blushed too. Rena giggled at the two.
“Really, guys. You two are so cute, you know.”
“Stop it, Rena.” The two said in unison only to make Rena laughed more while Churi and Airi kept standing lowering their heads.
“Ah… It’s a relief for laughing so hard, guys. Thanks to you, my night doesn’t feel suck like my day,” said Rena between the silence before Airi and Churi could sense bitterness in Rena’s utterance. They turned to Rena to see her laid her head on the back of the couch. She closed her eyes while her right hand squeezing the bridge of her nose.
“What’s wrong, Rena?” Airi voiced out only to make Rena’s eyes opened in a shot. Her eyes wondered gazing the ceiling before answering, “Nothing.”
Churi sighed at Rena’s answer and walked approaching her. She took a seat beside Rena on the couch, and let her head rest on the back of the couch just like Rena did.
“You’re not alone my dear cousin. My day wasn’t nice too.”
Rena giggled to hear Churi. “What have Airi done to you? He made you angry again?”
“You know him so well, Rena,” Churi scoffed.
“Oy!!” Airi retorted. “I haven’t done anything bad, spoiled princess. I’ve done everything you ordered me to.”
“Alright, frog. Relax,” Churi rolled her eyes.
Frog?? Rena wondered.
“You, chirping bird,” replied Airi in low voice but still, everyone could hear it.
Now, bird?? Are they playing ‘Let’s-mention-the-characters-you-find-in-a-fable or what? Rena wondered, again.
“Hey! What do you call me just now?”
“You heard me. He was right by the way. You’re acting like an annoying bird. Have you ever imagined how embarrassed I was?”
“Ugh! You’ve reminded me of that messy boy again. His face is annoying!” Churi groaned and stamped her feet on the floor.
“Him? Who?” Now Rena decided to voice out her thought as she’s getting more confused.
“Yes! Him! The annoying-messy-face guy next door of yours. Another Matsui that we mistook his house as yours,” Churi crossed her arms and mumbling, “How dare him to call me bird.”
“You mean… Jun?”
Of course, Rena! Who else? She cursed her own thought. “He called you bird?” Rena facepalmed.
“As if I care what his name is,” grumbled Churi.
Airi walked to the couch where both of them sitting, “It’s not his fault. Churi was acting childish before.”
Churi turned and faced Airi. “What? I was just peevish. He took forever just to open the door, and you knew how tired I was.”
“Still, you called him as a messy boy at first place.”
“I never imagined that we would get a wrong house. I thought he’s Rena’s boyfriend and…”
“He’s not my boyfriend!” Rena stood up out of sudden. Noticing the astonished stares from her companions, she slowly sat back. Her head lowered so that they won’t notice the blush on her cheeks. Seconds later, Churi patted Rena’s shoulder, “I know, Rena. He doesn’t deserve a nice girl like you. Anyway, I told him that I would ask your father to never bless him to be your boyfriend. A messy boy like him. Pfftt… I don’t want to have a cousin-in-law like him. Never.”
Churi’s words sounded like a bang to Rena’s mind and heart. She never imagined that her dear cousin would have such dislike to Jun, her crush. But then Rena took a deep breath and smiled weakly. Rena could remember it vividly. The moment when Jun grabbed Mayu’s hand, how Jun stated that Mayu is his future GF, and how Jun and herself have being distant lately…. After taking a breath once again she lifted her head and faced Churi. A smile plastered on her face while saying, “Don’t worry, Churi. Although we both were childhood friends but we never had that kind of relationship,” Rena halted for a moment to let out a sigh before continuing, “Beside, he doesn’t have that kind of feeling for me and he’s already got a girl and they’ll be lovers soon, I guess,” Rena chuckled weakly.
Churi watched her cousin’s face and listened to her weak chuckle. She tried to digest what Rena had uttered just now. However, she’s still remembered Jun’s words before while they were quarrelling, and what Rena said just now didn’t fit with what that annoying brat said this afternoon. “Huh? He doesn’t like you? Are you sure? Cuz I believe he said that he wanted to be your…”
Churi’s sentence was unfinished because Airi cut it by saying, “Churi, I think you need to apologize to him since he’s Rena’s friend and neighbor at the same time. I don’t want Rena getting embarrassed by your action before like I got.”
Churi snapped at Airi’s words, “What?! Apologize? To him? Never. I have my pride!”
“That pride of yours will bring you nowhere except embarrassment.”
“And what do you mean by that, Mr. Furukawa?” Churi started to lose her patience toward her childhood friend. She stood with arms akimbo and glared at Airi.
“You know what I mean, Churi. Ne, Rena-chan?” Airi turned to Rena.
Rena just sighed and stood up, “I don’t know. Don’t bring me in your lovey-dovey moment, guys,” Rena walked out and left the two to her room.
“Rena…!”
“We’re not doing lovey-dovey…”
Now both of them stared each other in annoyance but slowly it was replaced by awkwardness and silence.

The Next Day Jun put the comic back to the shelf. He’s in the ‘new arrival’ section. His eyes didn’t stop searching before his fingers brushed another hand. He turned to see the owner of the hand he’s just barely touch and met two black eyes and lips forming a smile.
“Hi Jun.”
Jun’s eyes widened at her then replied the smile. “Hi Mayu.” Mayu nodded a little and turned her attention back to the lines of comics before her. She pulled out one, flipped the pages and put it back.
Jun watched her attitude and uttered, “Looking for a manga?”
“Nope. I’m looking for a Japan history book,” said Mayu ignorantly.
“You’re in the wrong section, then. The history book is there, near …” Jun stopped when he heard Mayu’s chuckle.
“Really, Jun. Are you really thinking that I’m looking for a history book?” said Mayu between her chuckle without leaving her gaze from the comics. “I’m not that dumb.”
Jun agaped and waved his hand, “No, no, no. I know you’re not. It’s just since you’ve just moved in this town so I thought maybe you…”
“I lived here before moving to Tokyo, and this book store was used to be my favorite hangout.”
“Ah… I’ve just remembered that Rena said you two got to know each other in the middle school.”
Mayu nodded at Jun’s word as she took another manga, flipped the pages like before, letting out a sigh and put it back to the shelf with unsatisfied expression.
“Having difficulties in choosing?”
Mayu turned to Jun. She lifted her eyebrows and sighed. “I only pick mangas which were drawn well. No matter what the themes of the story are.”
“So, you’re not interested with the story?”
“Not really. I enjoyed the sketches more than the story.”
“Well… It’s a bit weird of you.”
Mayu just shrugged. “At least I know what I’m looking for. You seem a bit lost just now.”
Jun scratched his head, “Yeah… I don’t know what to pick.”
Mayu turned to Jun and smiled, “Need a help?”uttered Mayu and took a manga again, trying her luck again on this one.
“Well… Actually… I’m going to buy some for someone, and I have no idea about what she likes,” Jun tilted his head and crossed his arms,
observing all the mangas before him.
Mayu bit her bottom lip and put the manga she was holding back to the shelf. She was a bit stuttered when asking Jun,”S-She? Who?”
Jun smirked at Mayu’s question, “You know her,” Jun turned to see Mayu. “She’s our dear Rena.”
Mayu shaped an ‘O’ sign with her mouth and nodded. “Well, I have a slight hint about her likings,” She paid her attention back to the pile of mangas. She observed them to find what Rena might like. Her fingers traced the mangas as she read the titles one by one. “But I’m being curious for your reasons to buy her mangas cause I believe it’s not her birthday.”
“Yeah, I want to buy Rena new mangas so that she won’t be angry anymore.”
Mayu stopped her finger’s track on the manga. “She’s angry?”
“Well, at least in my opinion. Ah… I don’t know whether she’s angry or not. It’s just we barely speak lately,” answered Jun while squeezing his hair. Mayu could sense frustration in Jun’s eyes even though she’s not looking at him. A smirk formed on her lips. “So that’s true that you two were having a fight.”
“.....”
Mayu turned her attention to Jun since she got no answer from him. She could see Jun was lost in his thoughts. She sighed at the view before her, took some mangas randomly and put them on Jun’s hands in order to wake him up from his daydream. “She’ll be happy you know. She insisted to go to the bookstore yesterday before you dragged me to the park and left her with Sae. Aahh. Thinking about it, she might be angry to me too.”
Jun smiled happily to hear Mayu’s words and hope was rising in his chest that Rena will be happy that he bought her mangas. He turned to Mayu and thanked her in a soft voice with grateful expression “Thanks a lot, Mayuyu.”
Mayu turned only to meet those mesmerizing eyes of Jun. She nodded and turned aside to hide her blush. She bit her bottom lip and pretended to search for manga intensely again. “Honestly, you don’t need to. I just picked random mangas. She’s an otaku after all. She’ll read any mangas, I think…” her voice trailed off as flipping the pages of the manga she’s holding. “Anyway, I already got what I’ve been searching for,” said Mayu and waved that manga in front of him. Jun smiled and said, “Still, thank you, Mayuyu. Now let’s pay these.” He walked to the cashier with Mayu following him behind. Once they arrived at the cashier Jun stepped aside giving Mayu a way, “Ladies first.” Mayu just shrugged and stepped ahead.
After saying thank you to the cashier she turned to Jun to say, “Tell her she still owe me ice cream.”
Jun chuckled at Mayu, “But you already ate a lot yesterday on my treat,”
Mayu blushed at Jun’s words, “Don’t remind me of that, Matsui Jun.”
“Haha. Alright, sorry. Thanks anyway.”
Mayu nodded to Jun and smiled, “See you.” Jun followed Mayu’s figure walked out the bookstore until she’s not seen anymore. The voice of the cashier alerted him that he needed to pay the bill. He roamed his backpack to get his wallet. However, the messiness of his bag gave him a slight difficulty to reach it. It took him minutes and he gave the cashier a grin while his hand roamed and roamed his bag. He was about to reach his wallet when he heard a voice from his back in annoyed tone, “Tch. It feels like forever. I’ve wasted my precious time in standing here.”
Jun rolled his eyes hearing that. It’s not like I took hours. He took out his wallet, pulled out some money, and handed it over to the cashier. He tried to ignore the grumpy voice from behind.
“Psst, Churi. Stop it.”
Jun’s eyes were narrowed to hear that and hastily turned. There, standing annoyed Churi and her loyal guardian, Airi. Churi’s eyes widened to see Jun. Her finger pointed out. “You!”
Jun’s mouth opened widely, “You, annoying bird.”
“Bird?!”
“Yeah. You chirped like there’s no tomorrow.”
“What the…!!” Churi couldn’t finish her sentence since Airi already closed her mouth with his palm.
“Churi, let’s just drop it off. Say sorry,” he ordered.
“ai hon on tu!! Hens of!!” [TL: I don’t want to!! Hands off!]
“Only if you promised me to calm down.”
Churi nodded. Airi took a deep sigh before releasing Churi. She was about to scold Jun but stopped because Jun already walked as shaking his head, “It’s useless,” said Jun and walked out the bookstore. She was watching Jun’s back in anger and whispering “jerk” before she felt a hand was gripping her arm. No need to turn around since she knew whose hand that was. “Ok, ok. I’m calming down.” Airi released her arm slowly and uttered, “Let me pay the books first, ok?”

“Aahh… I’m feeling alive again,” Churi’s head arched back as her tongue tasted the mix of sweet and sour from her strawberry ice-cream. She tilted her head to left and right while she dipped her spoon to dig more ice cream from the cup. Airi could only giggle to see Churi’s delight expression. She looked so cute with her ice cream. He sighed heavily and threw his glance to the far sight before him. “I love ice cream……”
Churi heard that and couldn’t resist the urge to comment, “Your love to ice cream isn’t worth when being compared with my love to this sweety-tasty-softy-creamy-creamy-icy-thing…”
Airi giggled to see Churi’s looking at her ice cream in lovingly expression, “I can see that.”
“Un.” Churi nodded proudly.
“But the reason for me loving ice cream is different with yours.”
“Un??”
“I love ice cream because it can turn you from a noisy grumpy Churi to cutie lovely Churi,” said Airi with a smile and turned to see Churi with his soft eyes. Churi pouted but Airi could see a tint of pink on her cheeks. “Mou… it’s a criticism or a compliment?”
“Umm… Both, I guess,” answered Airi to tease her more, and he knew he made it since Churi puffed her cheeks in a slight annoyance. Airi realized it’s the time for him to ask Churi to munch her ice cream back before it’s too late (It’s the best way to prevent Churi’s wrath coming
: ). To his astonishment, Churi didn’t look as cheerful as before and just holding her ice cream cup tightly.
“Ne… Airi. I know I’m such an irritating girl and I’ve been a bother to your life and maybe you feel sick of it…”
Airi was shocked to hear those words from Churi. “No, Churi. Don’t call yourself irritating. You’re just spoiled…” Airi’s voice trailed off as he didn’t sure what to say. He stole a glance at Churi. After seeing her gloomy expression, he lowered his head back and muttered, “You’re a bit annoying sometimes but we knew each other for God-knows-how-long, and I believe you’ll always be the sweet, nice and kind Churi that I know. Forever, without fail.”
“Thanks, Airi-kun.”
Airi shot his head up to Churi’s words and found her gazing the blue sky with a smile plastered on her face. He was enjoying that smile before suddenly Churi turned to face Airi and said, “And sorry.”
“For what?” asked Airi.
“We both know that my father always bugging on you and forced you to act like a knight who always guard the spoiled princess. And you said it just now that I’m annoying.”
“I said A BIT and SOMETIMES.”
“And we both know what the meaning of it.”
Airi sighed and turned his face aside. Churi sighed to see Airi’s expression, “And it’s become official when we held my seventeenth birthday party.” Her mind flied to the moment when his father and Airi’s father announced it. She couldn’t lie to herself that she was in cloud nine at that time, and she couldn’t forget Airi’s facial expression too. She sighed again, “I didn’t believe you agreed. Did your parents force you?”
Airi gritted his teeth and Churi could see his eyes wavered and she could tell that his mind was flying back to that moment too. After letting out a heavy sigh Airi turned his head. He locked his eyes with Churi’s and stated, “I did it with my own willing.”
Churi flinched to see the seriousness in Airi’s voice and face.
“Stop calling your self irritating because I don’t like it. I never feel sick of you because I like you the way you are. Churi is Churi. I like Churi.”
“.....”
“Ah! I like Takayanagi Akane as well,” said he again with a smile. Churi replied his smile with a wider smile. They’re still staring each other when Airi stuck his hand out to caress Churi’s face. “Don’t bother yourself with it anymore, Churi, because I’m not bothered anymore.”
Churi closed her eyes, enjoying Airi’s soft touch on her cheek. She always treasured this kind of moment with Airi and she decided to let herself being encouraged by the touch. But, no matter how many times Airi told her not to be bothered anymore, still, that one thing left always succeed to raise unwillingness within her. She opened her eyes to meet Airi’s gentle gaze. She stared back at those eyes and gulped.
“So… What about your feelings to her?”

Mayu roamed her handbag to find her apartment’s key. Her parents were not home since they haven’t finished their so-called-reunion-journey.
Parents these days. She kept roaming while walking and when she was about to reach her door she bumped onto someone. She was shocked, but because she knew that it was her own fault she bowed and apologized to the tall guy. Seeing her bowed for several times his eyes widen and waved his hands vigorously and saying that it was his fault too and just left.
Mayu plugged in the key as she finally reached her door. She took a glance at the doormat in front of the apartment next to hers and frowned. It seems like she got a new neigbour as previously that room was vacant.
One hour passed by and Mayu’s in her room now, reading a manga that she had just bought. She’s all alone and it made her bored like hell. She threw the manga to her bed before throwing her body on the bed too.
She’s so lucky to find out that her crush has the same feeling to her. It’s so poor of her to wait him years to confess although they met everyday since they’re childhood friends. Anyway, why do all mangas I read are about a girl who fell in love with her childhood friend? Do girls always had their first love with childhood friends who lived next door? It’s weird because it doesn’t work with me.Mayu startled when she felt vibration under her back. She sat and there it was, her phone buzzing excitedly to tell her that she got a message. She slid her finger on the screen and read a message from her mom saying that they’re not going home since aunt blah-blah asked them to stay over and blah-blah-blah. Mayu threw herself back to the bed and sighed. Parents these days. Her eyes stared the ceiling as her mind was wondering in the skies. She reached her phone and slid her fingers on it again to read some old messages.

It’s true, Rena. You were not lying. Jun is a nice guy. She felt her chest pounding fast. She clutched her blouse, hoping it’ll help her to erase all the burdens within her, but no, it’s not helping. Just when she was about the let everything out she could hear sounds from her neighbour’s place playing a song from her favorite band. She enjoyed it very much and unexpectedly, it made her felt at ease. Slowly but sure, she drifted to the dreamland.

Jun stood in front of Rena’s room. He felt so awkward standing there like an idiot.
“Just get in. It’s not your first time to enter my room.”
Jun startled to hear Rena’s words and stepped inside. He took a seat on the chair near the desk while Rena sat on her bed. He felt so nervous and to find Rena acted so casual made him more upset.
Am I the only one who feel this way?Jun’s eyes wandered here and there. The sight didn’t change a lot compared to the last time he came. He’s used to enter here since a baby(?) and the tidiness never failed to amaze him. Rena’s always been a clean and neat ojou-sama in Jun’s eyes.
“What brings you here?”
Jun snapped and shook his head. “Nothing. It’s just… We’re not really seeing each other lately.”
Rena nodded and decided to take a pillow and hugged it. “So… Does it mean you miss me?”
Jun was taken a back at Rena’s question. He blinked at Rena’s figure a few times, didn’t know what to say, but when he saw Rena’s smirk, he smirked back. “Yeah. Not only missing you, my heart is longing for you.”
Rena let out a chuckle and Jun felt relieved. He was so grateful that there’s no a thick awkwardness engulfed them and he’s more than happy only to think that Rena and himself would be in a normal state as before. However, he still needs to apologize. “I’m sorry I was harsh to you.”
Little did Rena know that Jun would say so, but she never wished for it as she thought he doesn’t need to.
“What for?”
“You know, I answered you harshly when you questioned my deed for not telling you that I’ve contacted Mayu. I was just… perplexed, maybe?”
Jun scratched his head. “You know how helpless I am when it comes to girls."
Yes, you are. said Rena in her mind. “Never mind, Jun. It’s your decision to tell me or not, and I understand that your business with Mayu is being a private thing now. It’s your personal matter after all,” Rena stood and approached her bookshelf. “Beside, I was quite harsh too. Honestly, I was a bit upset when you said it’s none of my business,” chuckled Rena and pulled out a book. That’s when a piece of photo fell from the slip of the book. Rena took it, saw it, and smiled. She then moved to her desk near where Jun sat, put it on the desk. Jun took a sight at the photo when he was suddenly remembered something. He rose to get a better view of the photo and acknowledged the three figures in the photo. A guy in the middle was smiling widely with two girls beside him. The one in the left was Rena and the other one in the right was that girl.
Flashback, 2 years ago“What do you stare?” asked Rena annoyed while Jun was sitting on her bed watching her unpackingher things from the luggage.
“You,” replied Jun with a smirk. “I miss you, Rena.”
“You said it for 4800th times already, Jun.”
“Did I? Well, it’s not enough tough, it’s been weeks we didn’t see each other.” Jun replied with a pout.
“We mailed everyday, Jun,” Rena sighed at Jun’s action. Sometimes she really didn’t know how to deal with Jun’s childish behavior.
“Yeah. You mailed me ‘bout how happy you were having fun with your cousin in America while I was left here alone. We already planned to have a hanabi party with you in the summer holiday but it ended up failed cause you suddenly decided to spend your holiday in America. You broke our promise.”
“What could I do? I didn’t see that coming. My parents kept it secret as they planned to surprise me. Moreover, it’s been more than eight years I didn’t see Akane-chan and I was more than excited to see her again,” Rena retorted. “And I never agreed about that hanabi party thing, you decided it yourself. D’you even realize how childish it sounded?” Rena shook her head.
“Why? It’s fun!”
“For you.”
“Hmph. Why didn’t that Hakame come here instead? Should she steal you from me?”
Rena faced Jun and crossed her arms, “She stole nothing and what’s with Hakame? It’s AKANE.”
“Whatever,” whined Jun and crossed his arms too. Rena rolled her eyes and decided to continue unpacking her things. However, Jun kept mumbling something and Rena’s ears caught it. She shook her head at Jun’s whining and let out a pile of photos. Rena smiled at it. She really did enjoy her times with her family and relatives in America. It’s true that Rena broke her promise with Jun and she felt sorry for him. Jun had refused his uncle’s invitation to visit him in Shanghai just for the sake of spending holiday with Rena. However, what could she do? Her cousin threatened her that she won’t talk to Rena anymore if she didn’t come along. Well, that kind of occasion to meet Akane didn’t come everyday like she saw Jun everyday. She heard a deep sigh from her back.
“Jun, didn’t you say that you’re happy for me?”
“…..”
“Jun?”
“I did. You were jumping and squealing out loud when you were telling me that you’re going to America to see that Anake. You looked so happy, I couldn’t help but to say so.”
“But you did say it, right?”
“… yes…”
“So?”
Jun sighed, “Alright. I was happy for you, Rena.” He got out from the bed and approached Rena. He put his hands on her shoulders, “I am, and I will. Always.”
Rena smiled to hear Jun’s assuring words, “Then, help me unpacking these things or else I won’t give you the souvenir.”
“Aye, Ma’am!” Jun received the big plastic bag that Rena tossed over to him. He peeked at the content as curiosity engulfed him and found a bunch of comics. He shook his head.
This girl won’t be satisfied by just reading Japanese mangas I guess. He approached Rena’s bookshelf and set them on then turned back to Rena who was placing a mini Mickey Mouse doll on her desk. That’s when his eyes caught pieces of photos scattered on the desk. He took them and observed them one by one. They’re the photos of Rena’s holiday in America. There are many pictures of Rena’s family in different places, there’re also some photos of their big family, but to Jun’s amazement there’re sooo many pictures of Rena with a girl and a boy. Seems like they captured every moments they had back then. When they’re in a food stall, when licking ice creams in a crowded park, when they’re visiting Disneyland, even when they’re going to bed. “You did enjoy your time, huh?”
Rena turned to Jun and found him watching the photos. She rose and stood next to him with a big smile, “I did.” Jun saw that smile and somehow he could feel Rena’s contentment too. He stared back at the photos, “So, is this that Anake? Your lovely cousin?”
Rena glanced at the spot Jun’s finger was pointing and nodded, “Yes, that’s her. And for white-cloud’s sake, it’s AKANE, Jun. Not Anake.”
“Ok, whatever. And who’s this? He seems pretty close to you too. Is he your cousin too?”
“…..”
It took a minute for Jun to hear an answer from Rena. He could hear a sigh was let out by Rena. “No. He’s Airi-kun. He’s a good friend of us in our childhood when I was still lived in America. His father is Akane’s dad’s business-partner.” Jun nodded at Rena’s explanation and continued to see another photo but then stopped at a certain photo. He stared at the photo and he won’t deny that his heart was beating fast.
In it, he could see Airi back-hugging Rena and kissed her cheek, and even if it was just a photo, Jun could see Rena’s embarrassment.
“T-that was taken by Akane. I didn’t know that he’ll do that,” stuttered Rena as she snatched the photo from Jun’s hand. Jun was shocked by Rena’s action and turned. There, standing Rena avoiding Jun’s eyes with blushes on her cheeks. Jun snatched the photo back and watched it intensely. Even if he was supposed to be Rena’s closest friend now, he never hugged Rena that close and kissed her that way. He could feel the jealousy was taking over on him.
“Mou… Stop staring it that intense, Jun. It’s embarrassing,” Rena tried to snatch it back but failed since Jun lifted it up high. Jun stared at Rena’s eyes seeking for more explanation. It didn’t uncaught by Rena then decided to give in.
“Ok. I like him, and I think he’s my first love.”
End of Flashback Jun kept holding that photo with empty eyes.
I knew I’ve seen that guy somewhere. So, it turns out that the annoying bird’s guardian is that Airi-kun? Rena’s first love??!!! And he’s here while I’m in this silly matchmaking game? What a perfect timing!Jun felt heat was rising up within his body and without he realized, he squeezed the photo. Rena noticed it and snatched. She glared at Jun, “What are you doing??!”
Jun was snapped back and turned to Rena and found her glaring at him. He blinked few times didn’t know what happened. He then saw the crumbled photo in Rena’s hold and gaped.
“…..”
He cursed his brain for not able to find any excuses to avoid Rena’s wrath. He glanced at the photo and caught Churi’s annoying smiling face in it.
“I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean to do it. I just remembered your cousin’s annoying act yesterday.”
Rena flinched, “Ah. That’s true. Airi told me about that little quarrel of yours. I’m sorry for her rude behavior. She was just exhausted and didn’t know what she say.”
Jun just shrugged and nodded, “It’s fine. I was a bit rude to her too. Moreover, seems like I already used to be annoyed by her.”
“What do you mean?”
“Isn’t she the one from America? The one that ruined our planned hanabi party years ago? That Anake?”
Rena was silence as she tried to digest what Jun said. Gripping the photo, she then remembered it finally. “Ah, yes. That one. You still remember it?”
“Of course,” answered Jun wit a pout. “I should’ve accepted my uncle’s invitation back then and went to Shanghai.”
Rena lowered her head, “Sorry…”
Jun glanced at Rena and smiled, “Hehe. It’s ok. I’m just teasing you.”
“…..”
“It’s ok, Rena-chan. However, didn’t I say that I was happy for you?” Jun approached Rena and held her shoulders. “You still remember it, right?”
Rena lifted her head to face Jun and nodded, “Vividly. You were happy for me.”
“I am and I will. Always. Don’t forget that one,” said Jun with smile and poked her nose.
Rena smiled back at Jun. Jun’s always being nice for her, always. He always assured her whenever she’s down. Rena remembered the moment when she’s just moved here. New environment, new school, it was not easy for a quiet person like Rena. At school, she barely made new friends.
Though there’s no bullying, but still, she felt like a shadow, unseen and unnoticed. Back then in America, she has her best friend and cousin as her back. But here, she has no one. Well, yeah, she has lovely parents but you can’t count them in at this kind of matter, right? She always said that everything is alright whenever her dad or mom asked her and faked a smile. She kept everything in and faked a smile. Each day, every morning she would wake up with the sudden loneliness in her heart and she trembled. Till one day she found this boy standing in front of their house gate observing the plank name on the gate. His jet-black hair reflecting the sun-rays, and when their eyes met, Rena sensed the feeling of air going through her chest. The next thing she knew, her next days weren’t as bad as she thought.
“Thanks, Jun.”
Jun just nodded.
And you’ll thank me more when you noticed what I’ve brought for you, Rena-chan. Jun grinned at his thought. He then moved to Rena’s bookshelf as he planned to set the new mangas he brought on it. He stopped as his eyes noticed familiar titles already set on it.
Did I already put them on? He put off his backpack and gasped.
They’re still here!He turned to Rena and found her watching him. “Doushita, Jun?”
Jun gulped. His eyes shifted from Rena’s eyes to the bookshelf. “Erm. No. I’ve just realized you got new mangas,” Jun pointed at them.
“You’ve just bought them?”
Rena turned to her bookshelf and a bunch of comics there. She smiled widely remembering her time with Sae in the bookstore yesterday. Rena had dragged him forcibly and being a nice guy ever, Sae acted as a very nice company. However, that smile didn’t go unnoticed by Jun and curiosity was arousing him. “You seemed so happy in your dreamland, Rena-chan.”
Rena snapped and shook her head, “Nothing, I’ve just remembered a certain event.” Her mind wandered again and she let out a chuckle.
Certain event? Jun frowned.
And what’s with that chuckle?“And… I didn’t buy them, Sae bought me all those.”
