The question then is, what constitutes "acting suspiciously", and how much does the paranoia and fear of the other passengers play into/influence that?
While we were waiting, everyone agreed the men looked dodgy.
That's what they said. I wouldn't be surprised if what they were really thinking was "While we were waiting, everyone agreed the men looked Asian."
two British citizens in their 20s waited in the departure lounge to board the pre-dawn flight and were heard talking what passengers took to be Arabic. Worries spread after a female passenger said she had heard something that alarmed her.
That "something" could have just been the simple fact that there were people speaking a language that sounded Arabic.
Passengers noticed that, despite the heat, the pair were wearing leather jackets and thick jumpers and were regularly checking their watches.
The clothes could just be chalked up to their personal style. And the watch thing could just be chalked up to they're checking to make sure the flight was boarding/leaving on time.
I'm Asian. I check my watch at least every 5 min when I go out. Does that make my behaviour "dodgy"? Don't get me wrong, I can understand the concern of the other passengers. If it was my family I probably wouldn't have taken any chances either. What I don't like is the way that they expressed that concern. There is such a thing known as "being discreet" and "being tactful". Making a scene like the way that they did just shows how easily they can be scared into doing something potentially stupid and embarrassing.
