The downward trend of the second week has been reversed. Daily ranking goes up to 13th for friday.

Week 2 weekly rank: 14th, 7,103 sold. Total sold is now 48,070.

It's not the bigest drop from number 1 ever, but it's more than Def.DIVA (1->13).
Sales this week were slow except for Mr. Children (350K). Only 8,500 were needed to get in the top 10.
Sexy Boy is still the best selling H!P single this year (48,667), but Aruiteru only needs about 600 more to take that spot. Kusumi Koharu's Balalaika is also a contender with 47,438 sold so far.

Very good !! Morning Musume dropped so quick in the past years, but the fact is: quick. Now everything gets back to normal times. WaT's latest first week was 46K, BoA's latest first week was 42K, Momusu's 41K. Now everyone dropped, and yet they are still among the top. Of course there's Kumi, Ayu, SMAP... never die spotlight artists with 300K

But MM is at the top among the best selling artists. Maybe the new gen can help and make them go ba to the 100K.

12,787 sold is the worst first week for a Morning Musume SingleV DVD until now. Even Chokkan2 sold more in its first week (14,987). I guess this is the downside of having a bonus DVD with a PV on it.

Well, if you haven't noticed, music dvds don't sell as much on first week anymore. The only new releases this week in Top 10 were Nirvana (#6 3371), Hirahara Ayaka (#7 2670) and Amano Tsukiko (#10 1766). Maybe compared with previous single v's it's less, but even if concert dvds with _a lot_ of content (unlike single v's with their 15 worth of footage) sell that less, I don't know what do you expect

UFA is still living in the Gold Era when Japan would buy thinks for Momusu's sake. That's not the reality anymore. It's hard already to buy a three tracks cd single coming with a little card (God, not even b-side instrumental), that you also have to buy a three tracks dvd, and like two or three weeks later. Lazy people don't go back to the shop. Wotas will go, they will always go. But it's the casual people the target they are losing.

Thanks to Jbook daily rank with all editions, we could watch the DVD one was doing the best. The PB one was around there, but dropped quickly. The only CD and card was down, down, down. It took years for them to notice CD+DVD would encourage casual fans to get the stuff. And posters. Although CD+DVD are still limited editions. Maybe some day...

First week peak is at Joshi Kashimashi Monogatari. Total sales peak is at Souda! We're ALIVE. Most SingleVs sales happen in the first week of release. Only one SingleV almost doubled the first week sales in the later weeks (see the ratio column).

That's it. When they were on the spotlight it was cool to have the PV as well, even if it was coming three weeks later. But now the PVs are low-budget, casual fans are gone, and it seems even wotas less-wotas-being are leaving too. I know Single V gives too much money to UFA to spot it. It won't happen. But if only CD+DVD would keep going on... it's a draw of attention to get the cd as well

Why do I have to worry about 2002 sales? Ayu's single "H" sold a friggin _million_ copies in 2002, so what? Her singles' sales are hardly over 300,000 now. I'm just trying to say, _all_ sales went downhill, non-wota targeted releases as well (Hirahara and Amano, for example), so I consider breaking 10,000 (万) copies in 1 week a good result.

The list I posted was merely to illustrate a trend, or lack thereof, in SingleV DVD sales.

I do agree that selling more than 10K SingleV DVDs is a good result. Being able to sell so much SingleV DVDs is a feat in itself. Other artists usually only release concert or clips collection DVDs, but Morning Musume and H!P acts keep on releasing the PVs of their songs on SingleV DVDs.

Some complain about the cheapness of the H!P PVs, yet still many loyal fans buy the SingleV DVD. Are they just that, loyal, or is buying the SingleV DVD just the way fans consume pop-idol culture, which is very much visually oriented?

Good point, since MM is an idol-group, it only makes sense that they release and sell things like Single Vs since idol's are visually...uhmm...more appreciated

Another good point. That's a main reason why I buy CD+DVD versions over just CD only versions.
