The Phantom of The Opera (1989 version) - 5/10
I honestly have no clue what to make of this movie, it was so good and so bad at the same time.
Good:1.) Robert Englund was so great, it's like he was born for the role. What a cool actor!
2.) I really like the actress who played Christine! I like the way they portrayed the character. Christine never struck me as an idiot, she just seemed innocent and fragile (that's youth, I suppose). It really irks me when they make her seem like a helpless idiot. It doesn't hurt that she looks like a cute version of Winona Ryder, either.
3.) Okay, I could go on and on talking about how much I liked the casting. So let's just count the rest of the cast as another good point!
4.) Music! I like the fact that it wasn't a musical and accurately portrayed an opera (for once, in cinematic history!)
5.) It managed to gross me out in certain parts. I'm really hard to freak out, but this movie managed to make me look away!
6.) Decent writing

Erik got all the awesome lines
Bad:1.) Um, so why was Satan in the form of a midget who had a bunch of prostitutes with him?

2.) It seemed like they were trying to take all the romance out of the story. I've always thought of Phantom as being a gothic love story, but it was like the makers set out to make it as violent as possible.
3.) I really missed the romantic aspect so I'm going to complain about it twice

You can't have Erik and Christine without any real love!
