Hmmm. I drop a bonafide gem in Usagi and everyone keeps perseverating on mouse on the keys.

It was actually Naht, PANICSMILE, mouse on the keys and Spiral Chord. I showed up late (intentionally) b/c the band I really wanted to see was Spiral Chord (ex-Cowpers/ex-Number Girl/ex-200mph)

I caught the latter part of PANICSMILE's set and was in time for mouse on the keys and Spiral Chord.
mouse on the keys = intricate but not too math, edgy but controlled and far from manic, jazz with piano/keyboards/drums and support sax. With the mosh-inducing noise of the other 3 bands, mouse on the keys was an opportunity for the crowd to chillax. So minimal dancing, pogo-ing while pumping fist or moshing by the crowd. The mood was mellow but the audience appreciated the technical chops displayed and there was decent applause between songs. I haven't bought their CDs or bothered to download just yet so I wouldn't be able to offer a critque between their studio and live performances. Their live was solid but I prefer more "energetic" "guitar based" acts (eg I'd be more inclined to watch bands like Special Others or te' wrt jazz/instrumental).
Midori show at Loft in Jan was not a one man. I just editted out the other bands (Vola & the Oriental Machine, 54-71) for brevity's sake..... and I didn't actually see them. I arrived in Japan at 630pm on Jan 25 (the day of the show) and bussed it to the hotel w/ my luggage and took the Yamanote-sen straight to Shinjujku. Took me like 20 min to find Loft even though it's only 5 min away from the JR. hahaha. I only caught the encore of Midori's set but it was off the chains. Mariko was crowd surfing and making it quite far from the stage.
I vowed to see them again ASAP so I made sure i got tickets when Midori opened for Soul Flower Union in March (I was already planning to see Chatmonchy at Budokan Mar 31/April 1).
Here's some brief footage of Bugy and Midori i took (honestly, I hate videotaping, I'd rather be tearing it up with the rest of the crowd)

Midori is playing a one-man this Thursday at Shimokitazawa Shelter to kick off their tour in promotion of the new album.
Couldn't get time off work to go to this show. This week Rin Toshite is also touring, as well as Detroit7 w/ Bugy Craxone so I am incredibly choked not to be in Japan right now. To watch Mariko and Hajime go ape-shit in a tiny club like Shelter would have been godhead.
BTW I am going to watch Halcali in Chicago this Saturday. Anyone else gonna be there?
