cru
website / myspace

cru consists of Takahiro Kido and Yuki Murata, both members of Anoice as well as its main composers. The music is minimal and ambient, experimenting with different instruments and acoustic elements.

...

Yuki Murata
website / myspace

Yuki Murata's solo efforts are improvisational, warm piano tracks.

downloads:

cru - re-Silence (1st album) (2007)

Yuki Murata - Home (2nd album) (2007 I suppose...)

...

If someone has/finds Yuki's first album Films, I'm interested.

LEO今井

I got a chance to see him live last week with soutaseiriron and group_inou.
I had low expectations going in, thinking his set would be extremely on the "poppier" side but it was reasonably enjoyable.  Sort of a more techno version of base ball bear. The guitarist in his band is pretty dope.  He gave the Japanese audience a little primer on Swedish culture referencing Swedish meatballs, lingonberry jam and of course.. IKEA. hahaha.  Most importantly, the girls who are into his music tend to be on the hotter side.
group_inou easily gave the best performance of the night though.

right now I'm at my parents' place in vancouver. I'm flying back home in a couple hours and will upload the zankyo comp when i get back.
oh and F%CK!  natsumen's show is on Oct 21st and i leave on the 19th. that sh_t always happens to me (missing a great show by 1-2 days).

edit:
here's zankyo comp disc 01:
http://www.mediafire.com/?vqi88b210md

it's 3am, and i go to work in 4hrs, so that's it for now.

Tenniscoats & Secai

1. Melt Horn
2. 2 o'clock
3. Tengu
4. Turn
5. Svenska
6. Dasbon
7. Nanatsuno
8. Yukino
9. Flower Little Honey Well
10. Touch on

Tenniscoats = Takashi & Saya Ueno
http://www.myspace.com/tenniscoats
Not exactly obscure as they are an underground but relatively popular husband/wife duo who have toured the states (w/ Deerhoof.. a great band by the way), UK, Australia, Sweden, and other countries besides Japan.
(in Japan, they've toured with the likes of Mono and Shugo Tokumaru)
I'd describe their music as a mix of folk/ambient/jazz.  Aside from Tenniscoats, Takashi and Saya have their own solo material and whore themeselves out to many side-project bands.
Here's an interesting write-up on them: http://www.theage.com.au/news/music/the-constant-reinvention-of-tenniscoats/2007/06/07/1181089191433.html

Secai = Daisuke Namiki & Takeshi Hiruma
http://www.myspace.com/secai
These dudes engineer beats that are ambient/experimental.

I nornally don't listen to music of the ilk of either band, but i bought Tenniscoats & Secai on an impulse to broaden my musical tastes. If you wouldn't mind peeping music with a Portishead vibe and Quinka with a Yawn-esque vocals, this collab CD might interest you.
