hmm... I actually found most of the bands listenable. But most of them didn't really sound like they were a "new" generation of anything. Hell some of those bands have been around for years

Only group that stood out to me was group_inou. Though I did like most of the bands on there for what they were, thought it was a fun sampler.

There were, like, three bands on the sampler that I didn't like.

But there were a couple bands where I know they could have used better songs to advertise themselves so I'm willing to assume it was the same for the bands I didn't like.

Does this thread come up on search engines or something?

i have uri gagarn's album "no. 1 oracle" but it's garage-punk that's somewhat bland in comparison to group_inou.
I can upload and send it to anyone who wants it though.

Awesome, I'm interested in this.

Does this thread come up on search engines or something?

I thought the same thing. And I remember it comes up in the first page when I googled a few bands

and thanks for the uri stuff iacus/voodoo.

Oh and I need someone to refresh my memory. I saw a PV a while back on youtube by a band, but I can't remember who, I just remember I liked the PV. I just remember it was a popular indie rock band and the PV was filmed in like a retro style and had a sex scene. I tried looking for it on youtube by searching a bunch of different bands but couldn't find it. I shoulda bookmarked -___-

damnit. iacus beat me to it.
For what it's worth here's my link
http://www.mediafire.com/?fsg1jamaxy1
all I had was no 1 oracle, so thanks for Souzou, iacus.

Hey Ayabie, are you going to Nagisa Music fes?
It's in Odaiba and the lineup Oct 12 is pretty nice:
Rin Toshite Shigure, Midori, toe, Mouse on the Keys, oak, fukuro
http://www.nagisamusicfestival.jp/english/artist.html

I managed to get a VIP pass (there should still be some left for sale) which lets you access the bar and rest area where the bands will be hanging out.
I'm skeptical of getting the chance to meet RTS and Midori but imagine drinking shochu and beer with Pierre and Hajime and getting them shitfaced enough to try and shave the JPH!P logo on the side of Mariko Gotos' head?
scoring Kaela-chan's keitai # off Kashikura (toe) ? lol.

Fukuro is a band that I've seen live once before (@Shinjuku Motion on a bill with School Food Punishment, Knock Note Alien and Yomoya).  They're a decent post-rock band.  According to their bio, Nisennennmondai look up to them as role models.
Anyhow, the thing I remember most about them was the guitarist who used a Strat with the left 1/3 of the body completely sawed off.  Halfway through their set... completely arbitrarily... the dude harpoons his guitar as hard as he can into the bassist's chest.  The bassist doesn't even flinch!!  The whole audience was completely stunned   :O
Meanwhile the guitarist saunters over to pick up his axe and begins to tune his guitar while the rest of the band continues as if nothing happened.  That was one of the most random/hilarious things I've ever seen.  I wish I got it on tape.
I recorded audio of the band AFTER that incident. here it is:
http://www.mediafire.com/?qoqutjpthfb   (sorry it's the original wma file. i'm too lazy to convert it to mp3 and rename it)

Oh and in terms of bands that are cool/personable enough to hang out with fans and even go out drinking,
BYEE the Round are kickass in that sense.
Here's an interview from Hear Japan:
http://www.hearjapan.com/news/interview/Interview_with_Byee_The_Round
I love their response to the term "shimokitazawa kei"
I'm kicking myself for not watching them perform on my last trip to Japan but their live was on the same night as Zazen/Sherbets.  And boykun knows how I fucked up missing Zazen by assuming they would be going after Sherbets.

Anyhow, here's BTR's ep "Give me a Chocolate"
http://www.mediafire.com/?gagdzulazwc
"Image" is my favorite song.  It's as fierce as some of RTS' stuff but the guitars aren't as badass as TK's telecasting genius.
(the drums and bass aren't in the same category either but not many can hang with Pierre and 345).
Oftentimes a band will have great instrumentation only to be ruined by weak, pussy-ass vocals:
example = Ninaplay

At least Byee the Round has vocals that are aggressive/powerful enough to complement the music.

Haha, I've been using this site quite frequently for the music you guys upload (which is awesome btw, thanks to everyone!) I noticed Ayabie in here (I'm Modernary on last.fm) Just introducing myself I suppose since I've had this thread bookmarked for quite a while. Anyways, I'm a huge fan of NATSUMEN and BOaT and am pretty stoked for the new NATSUMEN single. Really enjoying PHEWWHOO right now too, thanks for that. If you still need those 8m songs Ayabie (and anyone else for that case), here ya go.

Hey, nice to see you here, Lotto.

I got 8m's split single with Stereo Type a while ago if you're interested. It's got a new recording of ya-ma and a new track called sarala. I've also ripped the live performance of シズク that came with the DVD because it's that awesome.

As a matter of fact I am. Are you going to be in Japan during the event?

lol @ ninaplay. It took me a while to get into them because of the vocals, but I've heard worse.

I'm in Japan Oct 3-19.
As far as lives go, my schedule looks like this:

Oct 4   Midori (1-man) @ Kawasaki Club Citta
5   Sambomaster vs YSIG @ Shimokita Shelter
9   FREENOTE (1-man) @ Shimokita Que
10   Art-School, RTS, Ogre, Telephones, Novembers @ Akasaka Blitz
11   Qomolangma Tomato (1-man) @ Daikan UNIT
12   Nagisa Music FES  (Ayabie, did you pay extra for a VIP pass on Oct 12?)
14   Midori (1-man) @ Pipe69  (Osaka)
16   Bugy Craxone @ Shelter

I might even fly out to watch ostooandell (one of my new fave bands. friends of sokabe keiichi who play really chill garage rock) in Okinawa on Oct 18.

Problem is I'm travelling with friends who aren't really into Japanese music. Although one friend listens to Mad Capsule Markets. He saw Boredoms open for Nirvana back in the day and hated them.  I made him a mixtape and now he's into Rin Toshite Shigure and strangely enough, Midori.
when I first saw the PV for ninaplay's song i was really impressed by the intro, then the vocals chimed in and i thought to myself.. why... WHY?!!    It was kind of the same with Perfect Piano Lesson. Awesome guitars but weak vocals. I think PPL's singer would sound less effeminate if he sang in Japanese instead of English, but his vocals actually aren't that bad.

I see I'm not the only one who thinks that way about perfect piano lesson. I think it's cause it's like he's going through puberty when he sings sometimes.

And that^ PV was pretty awesome, I liked the vocalist's shoes :P Not really my kind of music though

lol, great instrumentation, bad vocals. The ninaplay dude took me by surprise. I was not expecting that at all.. just like the guy from The Hotels . Perfect piano lesson isn't as bad though. I got into them pretty quick.

Matryoshka
website / myspace

Matryoshka is a duo from Tokyo, consisting of Sen, who handles all the instruments and sampling, and Calu, who contributes both haunting and fragile vocals. I'd describe the music as a dark and beautiful mixture of pop, shoegaze and electronica.

In Japan, Matroyshka's advertised as "the Japanese sigur ros"
Well at least they are at Tower and HMV.
I almost bought this album on my last trip to Japan.  Even though it came out last year, they had it on display for listening to coinciding with the release of sigur ros' last album.
Anyhow, thanks stryfe for the up.

Oh and thanks to Lotto for the 8m demo. That was some of the best shit I've listened to in a while.

Does anyone happen to have this album?

Fuck yeah, matryoshka. The upcoming album sounds awesome.

Thanks for the upload, Stryfe!

I'm in Japan Oct 3-19.
As far as lives go, my schedule looks like this

Damn, if you're leaving on the 19th you'll be missing the Nest Festival. I'll hopefully be going and finally get to see group_inou and toe. Also, sgt.'s new tour starts on 10/17 at O-nest if you're interested in that.

Oh, and I just got into ostooandell myself. "music" is absolutely brilliant.
