Aquarifa Myspace|Official Site

Post-rock influenced female fronted indie band I found through mixi. Still a bit rough around the edges, but thought they were worth a listen. They have a couple shows in the Tokyo area next month, with some pretty nice similar sounding bands.
Has only released a couple demos which I can't find anywhere other than on a couple japanese online shops.

I actaully have aquarifa's latest demo CD-R:

My friend asked me to pick the demo up for him on my last trip to the motherland.  They're actually advertising themselves as having a MotFD/9mm sound (that's what was written on the sticker attached to the CD).
I also found the Asian shoegaze Half Dreaming omnibus. It's pretty trippy listening to shoegaze bands from Malaysia, mainland China and the Phillipines. They have the whole MBV/Ride sound down to a tee while the Japanese bands add their own twist to things. Definitely worth a few listens even though the swirly distortion ad nauseum is almost enough to drive a fist through one's speakers.
Fukuro's latest, "tousousen" is also type nice. The CD sounds a lot better than what their Myspace would suggest.

And anyone else notice the pooload of great bands coming out of Ireland lately, primarily on the Richter Collective label?
Adebisi Shank is a disgustingly good math/inst band that recently toured Japan with Lite and 54-71.  Their ep (which i have) was released on Japanese label Parabolica records and they have a CD out on the aforementioned Richter Collective.

cats and cats and cats is another great indie band from Ireland. Not exactly post-rock but they're instrumental heavy blending Cap'n Jazz esque hardcore with strings accompaniment and the occasional accordian and trumbone.
http://www.myspace.com/catsandcatsandcats    (happiness for lola is the shiznit)

And they're from Denmark, not Ireland, but Marvin's Revolt is another band with a fanbase in Japan who are releasing their work on Richter Collective.

There's a cool indie/post-rock scene brewing in Ireland that has an interesting kinship with the scene in Japan.

Okay, segueing back to Japan, does anyone have any demo material from the 'band' 夜長オーケストラ (aka the Long Night Orchestra) http://www.myspace.com/adebisishank

I was researching potential shows to catch in Japan and came across an artist named Kaede
http://www.myspace.com/kaedekaede
I watched the youtube clips and thought to myself that 'bigboneded' guitarist looks a LOT like the dude from ゆやゆよん.

It turns out it IS Naka G from yuyayuon. The guy's actually quite prolific and is the conductor and mastermind behind the collective known as the Long Night Orchestra.  They play a lot of shows at Shinjuku Marz but I've never had the chance to see them yet.

I've been quiet on this board lately b/c I was slightly miffed at having my files/links spread elsewhere, primarily slsk/jmr.
Taking files from stuff i post here is one thing but to raid my mediafire database and to steal from the media section of a separate forum I help moderate is a whole 'nother level of clandestine bullsh_t. Oh well, what's done is done and I'll be more cautious from now on.
Anyhow, thanks to all the people who have been posting dopeness in this thread the last couple weeks. And more importantly, the increase in discussion about bands is an interesting and welcome change. (not to sound like i'm a vet on this board since i'm an effing newb who's only been around a couple months.  :lol: )

Fuck yeah, I didn't know Naka G did something outside of Yuyayuyon. Thanks for the heads up, the samples on MySpace sound awesome. I see he's completely sporting the bald head nowadays. :lol: And yes, stealing is bad.

By the way, for the people with Asshole access, I updated my post.

Cats and Cats and Cats are from the UK, they are from the same area of England as me! If you want me to share some good English post-rock, it would be my pleasure :)

Detwiije are a post-rock band from London, England.

Their first record was the self produced 4 track EP ‘Six is Better than Eight’. The first full length album was ‘Would you Rather be Followed by 40 Ducks for The Rest Of Your Life?’ and was released in April 2005 by Gizeh Records.

The band officially split in 2007 after a farewell gig in October at London’s Hoxton Bar & Kitchen however, rumour has it that there is a chance of one-off gigs in the future when Shea crosses the pond to visit London.

Detwiije are:

* Ben Levy (Guitar)
* Al Harle (Guitar)
* Ellie Wilson (Violin)
* David Jones (Bass Guitar)
* Shea Hagan (Drums)

Detwiije - Would you Rather be Followed by 40 Ducks for The Rest Of Your Life?

1. Would you Rather be Followed by 40 Ducks for The Rest Of Your Life?
2. Misspelt Dutch Architect
3. Pop
4. La Guerre Des Mondes [French for "The War of the Worlds]

They don't have many songs, 4 on this album and 4 on the EP, but i'd choose quality over quantity any day of the week XD I guess they are similar to Sgt. mixing post-rock guitar sounds with a violin. They definitely come under obscure, although obviously not j-music.... well I hope you enjoy anyways! I'll try and share a few more if I can.

after going through every page of this thread, and using the search, i realized <i>organic stereo</i> hadn't been posted. this is one of my favorite albums. <i>organic stereo</i> is the solo electronica project of Hiroyuki Morikawa who is also in the post-rock band <i>Euphoria</i>.

So I totally joined this forum based on me finding this thread. So much great stuff on here! And big thanks to the guy who uploaded all the downy stuff awhile ago. My friend and I have been searching for that stuff forever...

Here are my additions to this thread:

Bluebeard-Bluebeard
http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?2ngmzqmlmrw

Bluebeard were a short-lived band encompassing the style of early American emo. This stuff is really good! Unfortunately this was their only album and they broke up soon after it's release. However some of the members went to form As Meias, a band who further pushed the envelopes of their emocore sound mixed with a heavier post-rock sound.

As Meias- As Meias
http://rapidshare.com/files/154412097/ASMEIAS.zip.html

Well if you read what I said above, As Meias are basically the more abrasive and post-rock heavy version of Bluebeard. If you dig stuff like Lite, Toe, or te you'll definitely be into this. It basically takes the great Japanese instrumental bands out there and adds vocals on top of that.

BOaT- RORO
http://www.twitter.com/?d=DT4EUPYR

One of my favorite albums of all time. It's hard to put this album into words except that it is the perfect Summer album. Also very post-rock heavy but with plenty of pop sensibilities. The vocals are very melancholy and soothing, sometimes even reminiscent of a singer such as Damo Suzuki. This was BOaT's last album before some of the members went off to form the jazz-fusion (or whatever genre) band Natsumen.
