I already have the actual CD & DVD but thanks skeini for saving me the trouble of ripping the DVD.
However, I'm somewhat ambivalent towards seeing works of my favorite bands get posted on public sites.
If it's crap on major labels, I don't really give a damn, but smaller (not to mention great) labels like Avocado don't deserve to get fucked over.
I say ambivalent, b/c hopefully someone who had never heard of Qomo might become a fan and want to buy the actual release.
Also, the amount of CD sales that occur outside Japan pale in comparison to domestic numbers, so it's not as if Qomo/Avocado will lose much money b/c of public uploads such as this.
Even still, I feel bad for the band and label b/c essentially it's condoning the theft of their product.
Just b/c computer technology and the internet make piracy dead easy doesn't mean there's an obligation to hamper musicians from making an honest living. People around the world should have access to great music and the people involved in making the music should receive remuneration for their time and effort.
I guess I'm getting a bit melodramatic b/c I've met some of the staff at Avocado Records and they're incredibly nice people. Both Qomo and Mass Dre are hardworking bands that tour relentlessly and put blood, sweat and tears into their music. Same as Far France whose CD you also upped.
If it were Yui's album you just upped I wouldn't give a shit
, but Qomo and Far France hit a little close to home.
That's just my 2 yen... which is on average what indie bands in Japan make from night to night.
edit: don't take this the wrong way skeini/ytreza, I'm really appreciative of the stuff you post at jmr. There are a lot of Uta users who don't like to share, usually for possessiveness type reasons and you're trying to buck that trend by being more willing to share your best materials.
I used to rip & upload as well but after having the opportunity to go to a lot of shows in Japan I've become more cognizant of how unfair it is to the bands that make the music. You may subscribe to a philosophy that music should be free but these bands wouldn't be able to make this music without sacrificng time and energy that could have been spent earning a living by other means.
I admit I download a lot of music but mainly as a means of discovery. When there happens to be a band I like I actually buy their releases.
So I guess this rant should be less directed towards you but to the people who download the albums.
Once in a while people should think of the welfare of bands they call themselves fans of and support them by purchasing an occasional album.
