Since the 2nd half of 2010 is behind us, here is my second compilation with Japanese indie songs released between July 1 and December 31. Of course it's only a small portion of it all, and (even) I haven't listened to all indie releases, I think this is a fair compilation with some real unknown bands on it. All of the songs on it are from albums I ripped, either from CD or via iTunes. Enjoy
01. 東京スーパースターズ - みなとTokyo SuperStars is a rockband that so far only has released a split-tape with HELLO HAWK. This song is one of the two Tokyo SuperStars songs on it, and I really love it.
02. newnew - WClicknewnew is one of the bands I already featured on
Aionline. As described newnew is primarily a noise-band but mixes a lot of other genres in their music, giving it a nice feeling over all.
03. MY EX - myesAnother band with almost nothing to find about online. As far as I could find they only released one demotape with three songs on it, simply called 3 songs.
04. →SCHOOL← - パッパラ～配信限定release mix～An act I already knew for some time, but with this digital only release →SCHOOL← got back under my radar. Also has the one-man band grew with one member and has some well-known support members, such as A×S×E from NATSUMEN and アヒトイナザワ (ex NUMBER GIRL/ex ZAZEN BOYS).
05. Jimanica - Pitz at chu goatAfter my first electronica song a second one from Jimanica's latest release. Relaxing beats to show the diversity of the Japanese indie-scene. Besides this solo-project, Jimanica is also a member of d.v.d.
06. I'm peaceful - 化学室で恋Led by a 17-year old singer this pop-punk band seems to be some sort of family band, seeing the member descriptions. There's also not much info about this band besides a myspace and small OHP.
07. THE ××ズ - 私のパンク2010 seems the year of the garage punk revival, with The XX's as one of the latest additions. Short powerfull songs accompanied with high pitch vocals.
08. 385 - 鼓膜クレイジーWith the disbandment of Midori there's a gap to fill, and I think 385 has the highest probability of filling this. Led by Bleach/Bleach03 bassist Miya they have a cool jazzy sound in their music.
09. 8-eit - ギラギラ血走る瞳の前に・・・And so we continue with more jazz. 8-eit is already a well-known name in the industry, but they seem to be on a roll this year, releasing 2 singles and an album early december (waiting for my copy to arrive) I just had to add these awesome guys in this sampler. This is the title-song from their latest single.
10. モダンガァール&スナイパー - シュガーブレインLet's continue with the jazz, but leave the rock aside and add electronica. Modern Girl & Sniper is a two-piece band that is primarily known for their song レインボー巡礼 being used for a television show. Originally their album would be released in March but it got post-poned and thus it's added in this edition of my sampler.
11. テツコ - スイートなうた Some might know I have a thing for all-girl bands, FLiP being my most favorite, but tetsuko is a star on the rise. Currently the have released one demo and two EP's, the last one being released 2 weeks ago. This song is from their first EP, released in August.
12. APRICOT - Magic Student TripAPRICOT already has been around for some time with their second album released early 2010. Student Magic Trip was released in August and again shows how you have to mix electronic tunes with punk.
13. アナロギアン - おやすみハニーSome more punk with ANALOGIAN. Pretty straightforward, but nevertheless catchy.
14. おいしいはなし - I don't wanna want youTwo people, dual vocals, simple tune, catchy overall. Oishii Hanashi has it all, and despite sounding as an old release, it's just a few months old.
15. 王舟 - ThailandMy biggest discovery this year. oh shu has released two CD-r's to date with a third one coming up. Thailand was released in August this year and features some reworks from their first release. The band is being supported by mmm and oono yuuki.
16. 洞 - テントFans of OGRE YOU ASSHOLE should like this song from Shibata. This two-piece band somehow knows exactly how to pick the good stuff (opinion) of OYA and even mimicks the sound of the vocals.
17. へきれき - ステーションFor quite some time now I'm enjoying Hekireki's work and thus I was glad when they finally released something new this year. Their style varies from time to time, being ambient electronic, then poppy, but everytime, they seem how to work their instruments creating a addicting sound.
18. ホライズン山下宅配便 - ipnushTaken from already the third album by HORAIZON YAMASHITA TAKUHAIBAN. They have a alternative psychedelic sound throughout all of their albums.
19. laufen - スキニナルFormerly known as raufen, this all-female band is back with a namechange and a slight change in sound. In stead of the more rock sound on their previous two releases, they have a more poppy aproach on Carnelian.
20. オシリペンペンズ - 女の裸The first release from their independent label features this song, and since it's quite unique on it's own, I just placed Oshiri Penpenz on the last place. Especially if you seen live-footage of this band, you know this band is stranger than strange, but nevertheless the music stays cool.
