Well, I had planned to go to the event in Torrance today and post the pics I was going to take with a decent digital camera, but my friend from Torrance got sick and half my reason for driving 50 miles to get there is gone.
So, I'm going to post my story with my crappy retouched iPhone pics instead.
I drove out to Costa Mesa at about 9:30. When I got there, the entrance to the place was set up like this:

Right next to the entrance, KDDI had a couple tables set up and the people there told me that they would be giving red tickets to non-KDDI-subscribers at 10:30. In the meantime, KDDI subscribers would get blue tickets. The blue tickets would allow their holders to be in a special drawing as well as take a two-shot photo on their KDDI phone with Kago-chan.
Since I had some time to kill, I decided to get some breakfast at the Mitsuwa bakery, mashed potato croissant, melon pan, "crispy cream" custard bun. It was tasty.
Then I naturally passed the rest of the time until 10:30 chatting on the jph!p ajax chat.
As I headed out of the Mitsuwa, I got my red ticket at 10:30 and was told the event was at 1:00. Then I left for Irvine, where my old college roommates and I were going to meet up for lunch. This later fell through and I spent the time until 12 something at Fry's. On a COMPLETELY unrelated note, the Logitech Guitar Hero controller is
ridiculously well made.
After unsuccessfully trying to contact my old rommate several times, I decided to get back to Mitsuwa at about 12:30. As it turned out, leaving the Mitsuwa in the first place was probably a big mistake, since the parking lot is
tiny and I spent about 25 minutes driving in circles trying to find a space. I ended up parking in a parking lot about half a block away.
After walking back to the Mitsuwa, I walked in to find a crowd of maybe 100 or so people.

And there she was!

There was some banter in Japanese about KDDI, why she was there, and then she did some of her impressions.
She did about 3 impressions, Mei from Totoro, Doraemon, and someone else I can't remember, but the crowd seemed to think it was pretty good.
Then she introduced herself in English, Chinese, and Korean. The mostly Japanese-speaking crowd was like "??? I... guess that's right?". I had a little chuckle about that.
After all that, there were a few drawings for stuff like a free month's phone service and $50 at Mitsuwa, that type of thing. Then the photos for blue-ticket-holders started. One girl (in the center of the crowd pic above) was so excited she started crying, so Kago hugged her. Everyone went "awwww". I think I heard her say later that she saw Kago before and Kago recognized her. (Not sure, since she was speaking in Japanese)
Then everyone else with a ticket got to shake her hand. The guy in the hat gave her a couple gifts, one of them looked like a CD or something like that.
When I got up to her, I shook her hand, and told her "thank you for coming" in English.
For my efforts, I got some KDDI flyers, a Kago-chan KDDI phone strap, and a sticker.

Couldn't get a shoutout pic, sorry guys. I fail it.
