GAM – BOON interview

Matsuura Aya and Fujimoto Miki tag team it up in Hello! Project's super unit, GAM. Last year, they even appeared on NHK Red and White Contest as “GAM and Morning Musume.” On March 21st, their 3rd single, “LU LU LU” releases and as GAM's activities gathers more and more attention, Kirari closes in on “Ayaya” and “Mikitty!”
What kind of song is your 3rd single “LU LU LU,” which was released the other day?
Matsuura: It's a song that matches our tension. GAM's songs have rather few happy endings. The girl is stubborn or strong... Is that our impression? Character? I don't know (laughs). But, because I think the song paints a picture of something close to our generation's romance, I can sing this song naturally without forcing myself to fit the role.
Fujimoto: For sure, I think that is right. Usually, everybody is younger than me when doing activities in Morning Musume, so there are a lot songs that are like, “Yay,” and it becomes cute and energetic, but GAM's song this time, the song fits our age. I'm happy to be able to sing it!
It's such a song about failed love and breaking up, but are there parts of the lyrics you empathize with?
Matsuura: Actually, surprisingly, I'm the type who “cries one's heart out” (laughs). I say that I can't really imagine myself crying, but when I get depressed, I can talk to people and cry... So, I know all about those parts.
Fujimoto: Yeah, I relate to it overall. Especially the “too kind” part. It's painful~.
Both of you started as a solo and you have experienced many kinds of units, but comparing with the others, how is GAM? I especially heard that you guys are really good friends in your private life?
Matsuura: We're able to be ourselves. It feels relaxed. I participated in various projects and groups, such as “Gomattou” with Mikitty, but while I'm friends with other members I have this sense of older members or rivals. However, there is nothing like that at all in GAM. Isn't it good to be natural towards each other? Something like that. But it's really relaxing and I don't have to worry about being attentive.
Singing and the unit is also natural.
Fujimoto: Yes! It's easy to do.
I'm changing topics, but what do you do on your free time?
Fujimoto: I'm an indoor type, so I play games at home, watch movies, and do some training.
Training?
Fujimoto: I bought it through a mail-order catalog, but it's a home-use Navy training machine, so while saying “Fun[a grunt],” I try my best, but it's tough.
Matsuura: I love going to healing places, so at a nail salon I get my nails done beautifully or I go to beauty salons; I just do those kinds of things. Recently, a back leg warm massage is popular, so I often go.
What is your fashion usually?
Matsuura: Mikitty is a pants person, right?
Fujimoto: I'm a pants person. Other than work, I don't often wear skirts. And I like dark colors. I'm an indoor person and I like dark colors, so it's like I'm a really dark person (laughs). When I often wear all black, I'm told not to do that, so I'm bear in mind to make an effort to wear bright colors, but I'm more calm when I'm wearing dark colors.
Matsuura: The image that everybody has of me is wearing colors like yellow or pink, but I like monotone colors. I also remake jeans by myself and I love fashion.
What is the type of guy you like?
Fujimoto: It would nice to have fun person to be with me. I'm an indoor type, so even in the house, he should have fun. Also, recently, I thought it would be nice if he would take me out somewhere.
Matsuura: Cleanliness is important. He should understand daring fashion, but the first impression is if he doesn't have a sense of cleanliness then...
Well then, lastly, a message to Boon readers.
Fujimoto: “LU LU LU” isn't like “I hate you while I like you,” but it's saying ok when it's really not and saying it's fine to break up, but you are really sad; because it's singing a song about a girl's true feelings, I hope you will understand that this is how a girl's feelings are.
Matsuura: Of course I want you to listen to GAM's songs, but I also want you to have fun even if watching just a little and I want you to be satisfied the most! Because we will be doing our best in our activities from now on, I hope you will all support us <3!
