Yesterday I ran a 3Dmark05 with stock clocks cpu/gpu and the score was 9020. Now with a little oc (cpu 3GHz/gpu 621/700) I got 10852 :)

that is a really nice rig you have there. The videocard is very good. (I wish I had one), the processor is very fast, and you have a lot of storage space. I also saw you have a floppy drive. My motherboard does not support one so I do not have anyone any more. Sometimes that is irritating because our school still delivers some very old software on floppy disks.   :banghead:

I got new parts and have had my system running for about a week now--just busy tweaking it. Anyway some specs/pics for great justice:

Abit AB9 QuadGT, FSB overclocked to 300mhz (x4=1200mhz)
Intel C2D E4400, 300FSB x 10multi = 3.0ghz (stock is 200x10=2.0ghz)
Patriot DDR2-800 2gb cas 4-4-4-12, 3:4 FSB:DRAM strap (800mhz)
Gigabyte NX86T256D (nVidia 8600GT chipset)
Zalman CNPS-8000

Everything else is carried over from my old system, and in my Lian-Li PC-V600B case (3x 120mm fans, cool and quiet!)

HDDs: 80, 250, 250 on SATA, and 320, 320, 250, 250 on PATA

Also, I got bored last night and decided to hack an old USB-port PCI bracket and came up with this:

That's my new internal USB port, currently running on my old P4 (which has no case for now, so it's just sitting out on my workbench).

Strange, most still have a connector somewhere for the floppy.
But you could also pickup a USB floppy drive.

Nice hack, I am still trying to get the Microsoft MCE keybaord connected to the HP labtop, the standard IR port is not compatible according to HP so I'll need to find an external USB connected version somewhere (got some links need to try them)

I am actually using a 1GHz celeron (but with 512MB memory, memory doesn't add much to the power requirements) in a small box for BT's. Including running harddrive its using only 30watts. The problem will be finding such a machine these days.
Maybe in about half a year they will be building them again? (as 'green PC's)

Probably XP will be a bit slow on that kind of machine. I recommend some light Linux distro. Otherwise that looks ok for a BT machine.

BTW. Got my new cooling stuff while ago. Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme, Noiseblocker XL2 1400rpm fan and a Akasa 3ch fan controller. Case fans + the cpu fan hooked up to the fancontroller and fans are running 6v most of the time. I wasn't that satisfied with the cooler cos first of all the mounting sucked big time and the base was a little convex (=higher on the middle). Had to use a metal washer between the cooler and the mounting bracket. After that lapped the base of the cooler with 400->600 grit papers. Now humming along at 3.0GHz and fans at 6v :)

XP will run fine on 256mb. I have a P3/933mhz+256mb server with Windows Sever 2003 installed on it, and it runs just fine (and has been up online for the past 15+ months). I also run BT on it, as well as some other network services. Honestly, the only slow thing you'll notice is the first install, not the boot-up time.

That said, a standard "vanilla" XP will still consume a lot of resources that you won't use, so you should start using nLite [link here] to make a custom XP install. It will allow you to take out any component you don't use (especially for a BT box), such as accessories, games, themes, etc. And you can use Microsoft Virtual PC to test it out before you install it.

I currently debug my nLite builds on my new 3.0ghz+2gb system, but my latest XP is down to 320mb CD, 500mb on-install (not counting swap), takes less than 5 minutes to install, and boots in ~7 seconds.

But if you're still concerned about power management, you should look towards taking out devices you don't use. Having a second BT-only box is a nice move, but are you planning on using a monitor for it? Or will you use a remote-desktop software like VNC? uTorrent also has a web interface now. And you can network the HDD using standard file sharing. Plus you can schedule automatic boot-up (from BIOS) and shut-down (from Windows), so that your BT box only comes up at night and shuts down during the day.

Might not be what you're looking for, but I'm just throwing out a bunch of ideas.

Yes the 'old' memory but I had it anyway because I was replacing a server with a somewhat heavier 2.4GHz Celeron so I just put it in. The machine is also the MediaServer for some other stuff in the network so is running a database and several other services also but even this 1GHz celeron is capable of streaming 20Mbps .ts files from the network to the other equipment.
The havier machine is used for newgroups download, which sometimes require a par file repair, that takes a bit more CPU, with 2* 250GB and 2* 80GB drives (1GB memory) that machine draws 110W (140W at 100% CPU when its repairing a par set)

No 'light' version in that machine, its actually a Pro version so I can use remote desktop, between the server and this machine I share a LCD, keyboard and mouse via a KVM switch and a UPS.

wow.. i dont know what is that.. mind to explain.. is it a software to edited window installation file so that only needed component(basic) only.. actually, i'm making a full 24/7 pc that eat lower power compare to my current rig.. my target right now as i stated.. is it a good choice? cause i dint know how many watt that pc will eat per hour.. maybe i use win me or xp cause just use it for surf net and bt..

owh.. so your setup actually is more to server machine.. while i'm setting up a low power consumption pc that can use for surfing the net(my father lol) and bt allday long.. the main concern is electricity.. my amd64 machine only switch on if i wanna watch video (jap vidz and anime) / listen to my song (jap song) and gaming.. approx 12-14 hour per day only.. but i calculate the power consumption nearly 209W..  that a lot if turn 24/7.. damn my father will kill me for sure..

Yes you are correct, it modifies a standard XP installation cd. It's much better than installing a regular XP and then removing components afterwards, because during install Windows will make numerous changes to the registry/files that will not be removed, and you will still have lots of those components leftover that will slow down your computer. nLite will take out so much more than what Windows alone will let you uninstall, and since it takes it out before install, your registry and files will be much cleaner. Also, you should choose to use XP (and nLite), it will run much faster than Windows ME (and will be more stable/secure too).

As far as running your computer 24/7... Is it only for BT? Unless you are continuously downloading multiple torrents, or are seeding lots of files, you can configure uTorrent to shut-down or hibernate your computer after it finishes downloading files. It might seem like a simple solution, but to be honest, there aren't that many people who really need to keep their computers on 24/7.

Depending on your budget, you may also want to consider a BT-capable external hard drive. It's a hard drive that you hook up to your network (instead of USB), but has the added capability of downloading torrents without a computer. That way, during the day you can use your own computer to add torrents to the hard drive, and at night shut down everything except the hard drive, and it will continue to download the torrents. It will cost a little money, but will consume far less power than even a P3/1ghz, and with how much money you will save on the energy bill, it might be very cost-effective.

There are many models now, and the QNAP TS-100 is one of them.
Edit: If you already have an external hard drive, then instead of buying a new BT-capable hard drive, you can buy a BT-capable router to replace your current router. They have USB ports, where you simply plug in your current USB hard drive, and it will let you download torrents without leaving your computer on. The Planex MZ-04G is one of them.

30W is still very small compared to Athlon64, but that's only comparing the CPU. You then need to add in the motherboard and optical and hard drives. frblckstr1's results (~140W/hr) is just about average for PIII computers. But it's still better than 200+W.
