wow.. i dont know what is that.. mind to explain.. is it a software to edited window installation file so that only needed component(basic) only.. actually, i'm making a full 24/7 pc that eat lower power compare to my current rig.. my target right now as i stated.. is it a good choice? cause i dint know how many watt that pc will eat per hour.. maybe i use win me or xp cause just use it for surf net and bt..
Yes you are correct, it modifies a standard XP installation cd. It's much better than installing a regular XP and then removing components afterwards, because during install Windows will make numerous changes to the registry/files that will not be removed, and you will still have lots of those components leftover that will slow down your computer. nLite will take out so much more than what Windows alone will let you uninstall, and since it takes it out
before install, your registry and files will be much cleaner. Also, you should choose to use XP (and nLite), it will run much faster than Windows ME (and will be more stable/secure too).
As far as running your computer 24/7... Is it only for BT? Unless you are continuously downloading multiple torrents, or are seeding lots of files, you can configure uTorrent to shut-down or hibernate your computer after it finishes downloading files. It might seem like a simple solution, but to be honest, there aren't
that many people who really need to keep their computers on 24/7.
Depending on your budget, you may also want to consider a BT-capable external hard drive. It's a hard drive that you hook up to your network (instead of USB), but has the added capability of downloading torrents without a computer. That way, during the day you can use your own computer to add torrents to the hard drive, and at night shut down everything except the hard drive, and it will continue to download the torrents. It will cost a little money, but will consume far less power than even a P3/1ghz, and with how much money you will save on the energy bill, it might be very cost-effective.
There are many models now, and the
QNAP TS-100 is one of them.
Edit: If you already have an external hard drive, then instead of buying a new BT-capable
hard drive, you can buy a BT-capable
router to replace your current router. They have USB ports, where you simply plug in your current USB hard drive, and it will let you download torrents without leaving your computer on. The
Planex MZ-04G is one of them.
