As arian put it...DUH!  Whenever I have a student dozing off in class, I tell them straight up, "The reason you're tired all the time is because you're not getting enought sleep!"

Then they say they do. So I ask "What time do you sleep?" and "What time do you wake up?" Usually they wake up around 7 am or so, which is not out of the ordinary. What IS out of the ordinary is that they're staying up (on school nights) until 3 or 4 in the morning. That's like, 4 hours of sleep max. That's not sleeping, that's just taking an extra-long nap. For a "proper" night's sleep you need to be unconscious for at least 6 and a half hours (preferably 7 or 8 would be best).

JPH!P 's kuro808, Fushigidane, ChrNo, Jab & marimari. Always.

Damn, I read the title and hoped that it would have been about sleeping in class helps you.:doh:I have a tough time getting a good amount of sleep at night, but sometimes that doesn't seem like enough to stay awake in some classes. I've been wide awake before class, but out of nowhere I feel really tired.

Even though the research results might seem obvious, the fact remains that the vast majority of the population doesn't follow the recommended practice.

So if it can open up some eyes (and get school or office administrators to open up some sleeping lounges!), it's worth it.

your rest is more important than you think... of course. Just like you said a big duh
If I have exams i try to rest as much as possible :)
some people only are still learning / working / whatever until deep in the night.
And because of that they don't get enough sleep.
I really liked this article about the "24 hour living"... its about sleeping shorter than those 7-8 hours, but get rest equal to it.... you better read it if you're interested :P
