AKB48 appeals to fans for earthquake donations

Posted on March 14, 2011 by tokyograph

On Monday, idol group AKB48 updated their official blog to announce that they have opened a bank account for receiving donations for earthquake relief, which will be passed on to the Japanese Red Cross. In the blog post, it was revealed that some of the members of the AKB48 family (which includes AKB48, SKE48, NMB48, and SDN48) were affected by the recent earthquake and tsunami. The groups felt that they wanted to do something to help all the victims of the disasters, so they decided to work with the Japanese Red Cross for accepting donations. For those who can pay by bank transfer and would like to donate, details are available in the blog post.

AKB48 groups pledge 500 million yen for earthquake relief

Posted on March 15, 2011 by tokyograph

Members of the AKB48 idol franchise announced on Tuesday that they plan to donate 500 million yen towards the ongoing earthquake relief efforts. The group also announced yesterday that they are collecting donations from fans on behalf of the Japanese Red Cross. The 500 million yen was gathered from the members of AKB48, SKE48, NMB48, and SDN48, as well as others who are managed by AKS and producer Akimoto Yasushi’s own agency. AKB48 also announced on Tuesday that they are delaying the release of their album “Koko ni Ita Koto” (originally scheduled for April 6).

According to this blog post, they are donating more than Nintendo and Sony and almost more than the two companies combined.
http://kotaku.com/?_escaped_fragment_=5782421/sony-and-nintendo-disaster-donations-outdone-by-idols#!5782421/sony-and-nintendo-disaster-donations-outdone-by-idols

Not that it's a competition, but hopefully the companies and/or other groups that have the means will step up also.  Either way, good job by all three.

Gotta say I am VERY impressed with AKB48 throughout all of this. I fully expected them to put a freeze on all blogging during the crisis and stay low key about it, but the members seem to have been allowed to be pretty open about all of it. Some, like Mariko, have even been providing valuable information. While it is sad to read some of the somber entries they are writing, I think seeing them continue to blog has probably helped a lot of fans feel better about the situation. I'm also quite proud of how they've stepped up to the charity plate. I'm hoping they will do some kind of charity single or some kind of release so we can give a little in our own way as well. Can't help but have just that much more respect for this idol empire after seeing all this.

AKB48 x Weekly Playboy "genkidama" video:

All proceeds from views go towards Japan relief.

Sorry for posting this all over, but if more views = more help then, I felt I had to do what little I could since I don't have any more money to donate at the moment.

Is it too early to start a "who will probably take Oku Manami's spot in Team B" thread or would it be best to wait until she's graduated and the whole new performance arrangement is announced?

Probably this.

A lot of the kenkyuusei have been promoted to 'full' akb members already, but what it all means and who will represent which team is still not 100% clear.

Nacchan is first gen?!  I always thought she was 2nd or 3rd gen (I guess it's cuz I always associated her with Mayu).  :sweatdrop:   She's one of my favs; I feel like such a fail fan.

Now that I think about it; when I would look at pics of AKB back in the day, I would see a certain girl and say "that looks like Nacchan, but it can't be."

oh well; it makes me more happy to know that she was there in the early days.

This reminds me of when I found out that Kojiharu is an 88'er, and not a 91'er.

Yeah, Nacchan's been around since the beginning:

 XD

She was also in the Sakura no Hanabiratachi indies release as part of Team A.
IIRC, Nacchan also has the record for the most theater performances  :thumbup

Hard-working ever smiling Nacchan

and in response to "who will take Oku's spot?" I figured the likely front-runner would be that Shiori chick.

Her eyes probably got wider from disbelief when everyone else in 1st generation (and some from later generations) got way more spotlight than her?  Sorry.

Consider me converted to a Nacchan supporter.  Need to find out more about her now.

At the moment, I don't know anything about Nakamata Shiori except she's smart enough to get into Waseda.  I would think becoming a full team member might interfere with her studies too much.

Anyway, that's the end of that until a more appropriate time.

Sad thing, right? :-/
I started reading her W7 blog at the end of last year, and from the posts that I read, a good number of them were school-related. I remember reading a worrisome post because graduation for her (at the time) seemed...difficult to reach? (she also said her manager and teacher had a meeting to discuss the issue).

I was excited to read that she graduated (from school!). Being an idol & active student can be tough, but she did it.

I think...I think I wanna make Nacchan my official Oshi.

Is there any spot to fill really? I didn't find her SO important ever... never.

I forgot to ask; Mariko failed the audition? I've always read that she wasn't able to audition in the first place because her work schedule conflicted with the audition.

...That could also be possible. I'm a little sketchy on the specifics. Hopefully someone else knows the entire story.
