Lithuania tops Argentina, reaches semis

Associated Press

ISTANBUL -- Lithuania advanced to the semifinals of the basketball world championship for the first time Thursday, hitting nine of its first 11 3-pointers to beat Argentina 104-85 and set up a meeting with the United States.

Simas Jasaitis scored 16 points for Lithuania, which had seven players in double figures.

"People thought we were an underdog coming in. The reason we're in this spot right now is because of our team chemistry," said Lithuania's Martynus Pocius, a former Duke guard who will be playing against his former coach, Mike Krzyzewski, on Saturday.

Toronto Raptors forward Linas Kleiza added 17 points for Lithuania, while Tomas Delininkaitis and Pocius had 16 each.

Carlos Delfino of the Milwaukee Bucks scored 25 for Argentina, which missed its first 11 3-point attempts.

The defeat means Argentina won't finish in the top four at the worlds, Olympics or FIBA Americas Championship for the first time since 2000.

"This game tonight, there was only one team on the court: Lithuania," Argentina coach Sergio Hernandez said. "They killed Argentina with defense, they ran the floor well and shot well. We could not stop them at any time."

Argentina's Luis Scola entered averaging 30.3 points a game -- the third highest in worlds history -- but turned in a forgettable performance. The Houston Rockets forward missed seven of his first 10 attempts to finish with 13 points.

Lithuania used an 8-0 run to jump ahead 17-10 with precise shooting, tenacious defense and crisp ball movement. It took a 50-30 lead at halftime and built its advantage to 32 points before Argentina cut it to 17 late in the game.

Case taken off mishandled list

Associated Press

RALEIGH, N.C. -- The killing of Michael Jordan's father is no longer on a list of some 200 cases independent reviewers describe as mishandled by North Carolina's State Bureau of Investigation.

Former FBI assistant director Chris Swecker said Thursday the case was taken off the list after a second look at documents. James Jordan was shot as he slept in a car beside a North Carolina highway in 1993.

Swecker's review concluded last month that the bureau failed to disclose details about inconclusive blood tests in the investigation. But Swecker said Thursday he missed language in which the bureau did refer to those results.

Attorneys for a man convicted of the murder had argued the physical evidence was weak and say state handling of the evidence could still be significant.

Matt Barnes' fiancee: Accusations false

Associated Press

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- The fiancee of Los Angeles Lakers player Matt Barnes says a domestic violence accusation against him is false, and he has never physically abused her or her family.

Gloria Govan made the comments in a statement issued Thursday.

Barnes was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of domestic violence after deputies responded to a disconnected 911 call.

Sacramento County sheriff's spokesman Tim Curran says when deputies went to the home that Barnes shares with Govan late Wednesday afternoon they found her with visible injuries. Curran says Barnes was arrested after deputies determined he was the primary aggressor.

Barnes, released after posting a $50,000 bond, is scheduled to be arraigned Sept. 13.

RON ARTEST MVP!!!

of being CRAZY

Artest: Let's Trade Clippers to SD for Chargers

Quote
Ron Artest is making the rounds on the behalf of the Lakers’ public-relations department, promoting the Lakers’ upcoming exhibition games in various venues. He stopped in San Diego on Monday and had a simple yet novel suggestion from bringing the NFL back to Los Angeles:
“Maybe we can swap, the Chargers for the Clippers. No disrespect to the Clippers. You can have them back. I don’t mean that in a disrespectful way. I really like the Clippers, but I feel they deserve their own fan base because in L.A. they’re overshadowed. The Clippers deserve a shot at having their own identity.”

You might recall Artest’s visit to San Diego a year ago — his debut as a Lakers promoter — when he wore a Padres cap but didn’t know who the Padres were. This time, Artest wore a white Mets cap to play it safe, saying in The San Diego Union-Tribune: “I did my history on the Padres and I guess I know they’re a baseball team.”

"We're hungry. I know I am, as much as anybody else is. And you know Kobe [Bryant] is. Kobe's after something, I don't even know what it is. I think he's after stardom on Pluto or something," Artest said, taking off on one of his humorous tangents. "Pluto's not even a planet no more, which I'm very disturbed about. I grew up when Pluto was a planet. Now, I'm 25, I turn around and Pluto's no longer a planet. I'm going to elbow that guy in the nose. I love Pluto. Everybody loves Pluto. There's a dog named Pluto in the cartoons. I don't know how we got on that subject. We've got to see if we can get Pluto back."

LOL Melo! Kobe slaps some sense into him - you wanna play with Jordan Farmar instead of Chauncey Billups?!?!?!?!!?!

Quote
Don’t leave just to leave.

“We’ll see if he signs a reasonable extension and if he’s 100 percent happy that it’s where he wants to go,” Bryant told Yahoo! Sports Saturday. “If not, don’t make a move just to get out of the situation. …Make sure it’s a move that you’re very happy in and you’re comfortable with.”

Bryant said he talked with Anthony “a couple days ago” and understood how a move to the Nets would be appealing because of the team’s talented young center, Brook Lopez(notes), and new Russian billionaire owner Mikhail Prokhorov. The Nets have rebuilt themselves after winning a league-low 12 games last season while the Nuggets lost in the first round of the playoffs one year after falling to Bryant’s Lakers in the Western Conference finals.

“I’m closer to him than anyone else from my Olympic team,” Bryant said. “My advice is to do what he feels is right for him and his family. It starts there. He has to be happy with the situation that he is in because if your heart isn’t where it should be, it could have a half-ass effect. You don’t want that. You can’t please everybody. You just have to do what’s right for you.”

damn to think they were all scheming to go to the Knicks, Amare feels like a fool now!

Kobe looks so evil here :evilsupervillain:

"If [the finger] gets whacked, maybe a game or so I'll have to put [the splint] on, but for the most part no," Bryant said. "I've been shooting without the tape. My shot feels a lot better. I can follow through with my fingers on the ball and get a better feel for it now than I did last year."

JPHiP WORLD TOUR : NYC Part 102,021 at Madison Square Garden, New York for Celtics at Knicks

October 13, 2010

Pretty much my first NBA Game (pre-season Raptors vs Nuggets at Rexall don't count XD) and FUCK! in the Mecca of SPORTS Madison Square Garden was so amazing, a full fledged stadium in the middle of the city. Jaw dropping at all the banners and retired jerseys, esp. MESSIER! we got to get to hang around in the front rows, by the media table and check out the shoot around, luckily we were at the Celtics side so I could TALK SHIT TO EM! LMFAO!!! You SUCK KG!! You SUCK PIERCE! RONDO! RAY ALLEN! GO LAKERS!! even an usher turned around and gave me the "Yeah, son" look  SADLY there was no Shaq to be found. Then we had to go back to our seats, which Ping hooked us up and WERE REAL GOOD. We even sat around some Baller looking guys. Jaysonnj found out Shaq had a sore hip, but lotsa star around. Like Hey Walt Frazier doing the TV, Sophia Coppola, and random celebs.

THEN HOLY FUCK!!! Shaq was on the BENCH OMGASS!! MY life was complete. Kept filming fancams, yelling SHAQ!!!!! DIESEL!!! KAZAAAM!!! BLUE CHIPS!! XD at one point he turned towards us and I Was like popping my jphip shirt SHAQ SHAQ I bet he thought I was a heckler XD

The atmosphere was AWESOME, the usual LETS GO KNICKS chants, DE-FENCE. me and Joe were dancing to Bird is the Word, T-shirt gun fuckers didn't shoot any at us!! :tama-mad: and ohh baby Knicks City dancers! FINE ass:

Real competitive for a preseason game, Timofey The Russian had some good shots but Knicks kept on going for the outside shots. Amare took over as he finally took it to the hole and got to the line. Some strange reason Knicks were up by like 10 with KG fouling out for just whining. OH MAN HAD SO MUCH FUN just talking shit at the Celts. YOU FLOPPERS!! YOU SUCK PIERCE WHERES YOUR WHEELCHAIR!! WE HATE NATE CHANTS XD

more babes at MSG and Shaq Fancams, esp. this one in jean short shorts  :fap

WE WANT SHAQ chants got louder and louder they actually paused for a while till we shut up XD Shaq was all head nodding (thx jay for the linkage of the MSG footage!)

of course, Knicks being Knicks let the Celtics chip away and as Amare sat - stupid Doc Rivers piled it up, keeping Pierce and Ray Allen in wtf and Pierce hit the clutch shot. OVERALL FUCKiNG AWESoME EXPERIENCE!! lol at the Celtics fans outside talking shit "Yeah Celtics!" and I had enough "GO LAKERS!! BACK TO BACK KOBE!" :jphip:

Can't wait to check out more NBA games....STAPLES in May?!

great to see Yao Ming back!! destroying the Nets too

...check his movie here with Dwight Howard, Pippen, Melo, even Kobe! a Chinese production:
