Troy : Shield of Thunder - David Gemmell

Words can't even describe how awesome the 1st book was. Each chapter read like an ancient myth and had some truly fascinating characters (Helikaon was simply badass). I just cannot wait to read this and the final in the trilogy.

Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell

Quote
The book is set in an alternate 19th-century Britain, during the Napoleonic Wars. The story is based on the premise of magic returning to England after hundreds of years of desuetude, and the tumultuous relationship between two magicians of the time. It incorporates historical events and people into its fictional alternate reality. Historical figures encountered in the novel include the Duke of Wellington, Lord Byron and King George III. The novel, written in a pastiche of Jane Austen and Charles Dickens' literary styles, uses quasi-archaic spelling for several words (such as shew, chuse, connexion, sopha, scissars, headach, and surprize) and gives all street names hyphenated with only one capital letter (e.g. Regent-street, Hanover-square).

The book is interspersed with hundreds of footnotes which reference a number of fictional books including magical scholarship and biographies, and which provide a detailed backstory. Many pages of the book contain more footnote text than main body text.

I'm going through a bit of a Stephen King phase, I've recently just finished The Shining and Carrie and have moved onto Misery. King's writing style isn't my usual sort of read but the books are easy to pick up and both The Shining and Carrie had pretty interesting plots, more so Carrie, I love a horror / thriller with religious undertones.

The Lucifer Effect : How Good People Turn Evil - Phillip Zimbardo

Interesting book on what drives normal, moral people to act immorally. The focus is around the Stanford prison experiment where a group of students were placed in a mock prison and how, in less than a week, the study was terminated when the 'guards' became increasingly sadistic and the 'prisoners' pathological.

Now finished Misery by Stephen King and moved onto Needful Things. The story seems a little bit odd, but then it is King.

Misery was fantastic, a highly recommended book. Towards the end I was truly on the edge of my seat, I fell off at one point.

Almost finished with The Color of Water - James McBride.
A rather timely book, imo. It reminds me of the article I read on Barack Obama's mom in Time magazine.
Nearly done with summer reading!!!!!!

Vernor Vinge's A Deepness in the Sky. It's a thought-provoking hard science fiction novel with some interesting ideas and characters. I'd definitely recommend it.

I so badly can't wait to read that but I'm not even gonna buy it till I know I have time to read :P
How does it rank compared to the rest of the series?

I'm reading 'The Vampire's Kiss' by Cynthia Eden...  It's short but mighty hot and fast paced which I like!

time to read "Misery" by sweeety ;) no it doesn't involve killing anyone... it's just miserable as it starts off... but I relented and gave ppl a happy ending.

reading Twilight (don't kill me for not having finished it still, I really have been busy)
Jane Austen's Emma
Sally Morgans My Place
and William Shakespeares Othello
