Takamina looked at her kouhai and sighed. She couldn’t make a decision on what to do, should she go meet Yuko, Acchan or stay? She was in deep thought, so deep that she shrink due to the pressure.

Chapter 2: Meeting AcchanDTakamina patted her kouhai on the shoulders and asked her to wait for 5 minutes or so because she had something important to attend. “I’ll be back in 5 minutes. Won’t be long. Start practicing.”
The midget waved back to her kouhai as ran down the theatre while texting Yuko, she can’t make it to ‘cheese eating’. Rushing down the corridors, Minami tripped and landed face first on the hard ground, giving her a bruise right on the centre of her forehead.
Disregarding the pain, Takamina got up and ran towards the entrance of the theatre, to find the former ace in her usual disguise. The midget could feel her heart literally bursting out her chest. How long has it been since she got to see her?
“Minami!”
“Atsuko…Come inside first.”
The pair found a secluded place in the theatre and instantly, Acchan enveloped her best friend in a tight and warm hug.
“Hmm…Minami, Congrats.”
“Haha…thanks.”
Acchan scruntinised the older girl and leaned in to touch the growing bump on her forehead. Her eyes lowered to the midget's grazed knees. "Did you fall?" She asked concern rising from her voice.
Takamina blushed, looking away she nodded hesitantly. "I'm still a fail....haha..."
"No, you're not. You're just adorable." Acchan smiled, causing the shorter girl to go redder even more.
"So why are you here?"
"Mou~ Can't I visit you without a reason?" Acchan pouted, causing Takamina to go frantic. "I didn't mean it that way."
Acchan laughed and patted the younger girl on the head. "Actually I came because..."
Fumbling in her bag, she took out Takamina’s new single, the Type C version.
“Um….Takamina….” Acchan fidgeted and turned her gaze away from AKB’s general manager, her cheeks tinted pink.
She’s so cute. Takamina couldn’t help thinking.
Acchan took the CD with both hands and bowed. “Please would you sign this for me?”
“W-What? Atsuko…what are yo-“
“I am your biggest fan after all, so what’s wrong with asking for a signature from my favourite singer?” Acchan looked into Takamina’s eyes. “Please, Minami?”
Takamina chuckled and took out a marker from her pocket, scribbling something on the CD, she smiled. “You can only read it when I’m not here okay?”
Acchan nodded happily, and watched her best friend furiously draw on her solo CD.
“Why’d you buy Type C? I personally think I look cooler in Type A…” the midget asked while still writing.
Acchan giggled.
“I bought all of them…they all reflect you, Minami. Type A, a mysterious thief reflecting your infamous introduction line, “I may look like a yankee, but my heart is glass…” Type B, where you are the most beautiful singer, with the most beautiful voice and mostly importantly the most beautiful heart. But Type C’s my favourite…after all you sang….our song.” A huge blush crept towards both of their cheeks.
“A-A lot has happened, right?” Takamina mumbled.
“Yeah….”
1 year ago...“I still remember, even now
The summer I feel in love….”
Acchan took her headphones off and opened the recording doors.
“Akimoto-sensei, I can’t do it…I can’t sing this song.”
Akimoto, still sitting down with his arms crossed, looked up at her, and sighed.
“Why is that?”
“The lyrics you wrote…there’s no way I can sing this!”
“There’s nothing wrong-“
“Sensei! You don’t understand, I can’ t sing this! It’s too personal!”
“Maed-“
Before he could finish what he wanted to say, Maeda had already left the studio.
“Um…Akimoto-san, what –“ One of the producers asked.
“It’s okay…she’ll be back tomorrow” Akimoto stood up from his seat and exited the studio.

He doesn’t understand at all, how could he write something like this…I bet he spies at us…or else how does he know I feel this way…how does he know that this is exactly how I feel when I’m with-
“T-Takamina?” Acchan watched the midget walk into the room, with the other members, however where she was situated, they couldn’t see her, thankfully. They must’ve finished the recording of Akbingo ,judging from their P.E outfit. She had never really enjoyed variety shows, she always seemed to be tired whenever she’s on. It’s only when she’s right next to her that things seem better.
Soon after, everyone dispersed out from the room, to return home for the day. Acchan stood up from her hiding space and was about to leave the room when –
The door slammed open and in came a rushed midget. “A-Aachan! You're here! The staffs are looking for you…ah, I was so scared something might’ve happened to you….”
The midget sighed in relief and took Aachan’s hands. “Don’t ever do that again.” Acchan nodded and smiled.
“Don’t ever hide again, whatever happens you can always complain to me.” Takamina returned the smiled and pulled Acchan’s hand.
“Come on, let’s tell the staff you’re alright, and then let’s go home together.” Aachan caught in the moment and Takamina’s kindness, simply nodded.

“….and I can’t sing it…”
“Hmm…if you really don’t want to, I’ll help talk to them…but judging from what you said, perhaps it’s not that you can’t sing it, and it’s not because it’s too personal but because you’re scared…scared of something.”
“Scared?”
Just then, the blue,clear sky turned grey and droplets of rain fell from the sky causing them to both yelp. Takamina held Aachan’s hands tightly and took her towards a bus stop, for shelter. At this point, Aachan had completely dismissed the cold presence of the rain and instead stared longingly at Takamina’s back.
They reached the shelter, with both of them dripping wet. Takamina looked at Acchan and she looked back, both of them bursting into giggles and laughter.
When we’re together I can even enjoy the rain…
The pair sat on the bench, and Aachan unconsciously placed her head on Takamina’s right shoulder. “Minami…what am I scared of?”
Minami looked back, and after a brief silence, she took a deep breath and replied.
“I don’t know… …maybe scared how true those words are… scared of the emotions it provokes in you.”
“So....all along...I was…scared…”
“But… I’ve read the lyrics…and it seems like a wonderful feeling…”
Aachan smiled, snuggling closer to Takamina, she whispered. “Yeah it is….”
“I don’t know who this person you’re thinking of is…but..I’ve read the lyrics and…maybe, perhaps…if it makes you feel less anxious…maybe you can think of me as you sing....haha, I mean you do constantly lay on my right shoulder…haha..” A small blush could be seen from the midget and all Aachan could do was feel fuzzy and warm inside.
Little did Takamina know, the song was all directed to her.
“As I gently Iean against you
All my worries fade away
And I’m filled with bliss
Nostalgic, yet painful
Is how I remember that summer....”
From the recording room, Aachan’s eyes never left Takamina’s, and in was just that instance that she realized that she was indeed scared, scared of what she felt…scared of reading ‘her diary’ to the world, but now she couldn’t be happier, feeling what she did for a certain midget.
She wanted to tell the world...."All I need is Takamina."
“Thank you Minami…” Acchan smiled, her head lowered.
Handing back the signed CD, Takamina smiled back. “You’re welcome.”
Looking at her watch, Acchan gave her farewell and ran out of the room. Takamina smiled sadly at the ground and was about to walk out when –
The door opened suddenly.
“Atsuko….”
“Minami…one more thing…” Acchan drew her best friend into a hug and kissed her bruise forehead.
Takamina blushed instantly at the intimate contact. “I miss you…Takamina….and you’ve gotten really pretty and cool.”
.....
Takamina was speechless, and only after a while did she come back, she chuckled to herself before walking out of the room back to the practice stage to teach her kouhai.
(The Path I choose)Acchan ran back into her car, as it drove her to her next job. Her hands took out the CD from her bag and a single tear drop fell onto the case.
Atsuko, no matter where you are, my right shoulder is always yours.
"You have no idea how you make me feel Minami..." Clutching the CD close to her heart, she closed her eyes and smiled.

Yuko and Atsuko’s apartmentKojiharu looked at the wrapped item in her hands and then at Yuko. “We never had any free time together…I couldn’t give this to Takamina…and I won’t be seeing her until her birthday…” Yuko grimaced.
“I’m sure she’s free right now…call her and tell her to come here to receive her present, if you’re that concerned.”
“I could do that…”
Suddenly, Kojiharu was pushed towards the ground when Yuko on top, her eyes full with jealousy, she leaned in and kissed her Nyan Nyan. As desperate as Kojiharu was, her strength failed her as she attempted to push Yuko off.
Kojiharu’s hand reached her pockets and she contemplated what she should do
a) Leave the present aside and give her full attention to Yuko
b) Speed dial Takamina
c) Slap Yuko hard on the cheek to wake her up and go to Takamina's.
