It's a new music game similar to Guitar Hero, but this also includes a drumset, and a mic. The singing is similar to that karaoke revolution game.
Wow, don't know whether I should get this or GH3. The price for a bunlde is US$169.99, for both 360 and PS3, US$159.99 for PS2, while a bundle for GH3 is about US$99.99

I've been waiting for this for like a year, so yeah. I've been following it pretty religiously.
The release date is November 20 if anyone cares.

lol, that's how I was for the game 'Bully'. and that kept getting delayed.
GH3, Rock Band, Rock Band, GH3. Wish I could get both, but can'tttt
-
^ rock band isn't going to come seperately at launch, only with the bundle. so i guess it depends on your wallet size.
yeah, i played through bully, it was really good

I'm a religious GH player  From the looks of it each game has it's own strengths and weaknesses. With GH3, if you've been playing since the beginning, there's not much new here. But that's ok, because if it ain't broke, don't fix it. And what a setlist GH3 has. Already looks like the best of the series yet. La Grange, Suck My Kiss, 3's & 7's, Raining Blood, Number Of The Beast, One, it's like the developers read my mind. But then there's inclusions like Slipknot, In Flames and Disturbed that kinda ruin it. Oh well, trying to complete Through The Fire And The Flames will outweigh that (the song that many 'experts' are all failing at the intro alone )
Rock Band also looks awesome, the drum peripheral in particular looks like so much fun to play with, and the developers even said that those that can play with the drums on Expert setting can pretty much play the real deal in reality. Not many games boast that. Strong setlist as well, if only let down by the recent inclusion of Fall Out Boy :P Other problems? For the experienced GH fans, the songs look too easy to play on lead guitar and price is also a big factor. But that's ok if you think of how much fun you and drunken mates could have if you get it. Plus it's made by Harmonix, the original creators of Guitar Hero, so these guys know their stuff.
I'll put up the setlist of each game so you can judge for yourselves:

I've got a Wii, so I've got to wait a couple months to get Rockband. GHIII will satisfy the itch in the meantime.

Actually, RedOctane recently announced that it will come separately, just without instruments LOLhttp://www.gamespot.com/news/show_blog_entry.php?topic_id=25995805 (http://www.gamespot.com/news/show_blog_entry.php?topic_id=25995805)

Been waiting for this game since the release of the first Guitar Hero!
Still don't have a next-gen system and I'm not gonna spend the money for the ps2 version when I'm not even sure it will be able to read the disc -___-
But then there's inclusions like Slipknot, In Flames and Disturbed that kinda ruin it.
In Flames is one of the greatest Swedish Deathmetal bands ever and is far beyond the ranks of shit metal bands like Slipknot and Disturbed. >:| Having to put them in the same sentence is bad enough.
Anyways,
In terms of song list, GH3 is far superior IMO. But I think Rock Band will make for a far better experience. It's sorta like the first Guitar Hero, even though the song list wasn't that great, it made up for it in how fun the game was.
Really my main reason to want GH3 is so I can play "Through the Fire and the Flames" on it. XD I saw some videos on Youtube, song looks fun and frustrating as fuck. Some parts are actually easier on an actual guitar(as is lots of GH songs)
-
I always hated GH, but that's because I have actual guitars to play with
-

My bad. I realise that In Flames is widely regarded as such and that Take This Life isn't even regarded as one of their best songs by their own fans. It looks tough to play from what I've seen, but I'm just not a huge fan of any kind of death metal (not to imply that Slipknot or Disturbed are death metal. They're just shit). So yeh they'll be 2 songs I'll play once and then never again, oh and AFI
Still think that some J-rock songs should be included as a J-rock character, Midori, is in there looking to represent something. Axel represents the metal, Casey with the hard rock, Johnny with the punk, just seems kind of weird that she should be included without a couple of songs that really 'belong' to her. And language barrier isn't a problem as french, spanish and german songs are included. Perhaps some downloadable content in the future will change that though
I will not pass TTFATF on expert. That's a fact. I can't pass Jordan on Expert, what chance will I have? On hard is where it's at, and it will be a hell of a lot of fun to play
-
I'm probably gonna wait out on Rock Band, since I don't have a ps3 or 360. They had it out at the local Best Buy and it looked really good. The guitar controller is really nice and feels solid, not all cheap and plastic like the first Guitar Hero controller. The drum kit is pretty simple, but I don't think it has a kick drum, or at least I didn't see one.
Sticking to GH3 for now. I just got a little bit past halfway, but I'm having trouble with that fuckin Slipknot song.
-
^ It's coming out for the PS2 though as well, right? So Before I Forget is tough eh? I don't want to watch any more videos, otherwise it's just no fun playing a song for the first time knowing what to expect. Can you make any comparisons to previous songs?
-
Probably like Beast and the Harlot, but less fun to play. It's got these damn chords in the bridge part that I really hate. I don't even like the song.
-
^ Guitar Hero 3 is going to be the first GH game I'm buying, so I dont know to much about career mode and all. Are you able to choose what difficulty you play the song in Career mood?
Songs I look foward to playing to in GH3 are Miss Murder, Lay down, and the Metal
btw, would anybody mind if I changed this topic title to Guitar Hero/Rock Band? lol
-
^ Probably for the best if you do!
Basically in career mode, you select any difficulty from Easy (Red, Green, Yellow buttons only), Medium ( RGY Blue only), Hard (all 5) or Expert (all 5 and you really need to master hammer-ons and pull-offs to get the best out of it). The difficulty determines the level of all the songs you play. But you're not limited to just one career. You can go halfway through the career on easy and start another career on expert without having to lose any data.
Progressing through the career is a matter of passing all the songs on each setlist (4 songs initially but an 'encore' track is unlocked as you pass all 4). Simple as. GHIII's career differs in that you have boss battles at the end of particular setlists, with real life guitarists such as Tom Morello (Rage Against The Machine) or Slash (Guns N Roses), each playing songs they specifically wrote for GHIII. Think there's only 3 in all though.
I'm not sure if it's right, but I think the only way to unlock Through The Fire And The Flames is to pass career mode first of all. I think it's on any difficulty, but someone said it can only be done through expert only, which would suck if true, cause I'm not sure if I'll pass! Luckily there's an unlock all songs cheat :P
Probably like Beast and the Harlot, but less fun to play. It's got these damn chords in the bridge part that I really hate. I don't even like the song.
Didn't even like Beast and the Harlot all that much so this sounds worse. The most frustrating song I feel was Freya on GHII. Damn, green-orange-blue lasted forever!
-
fuck the slipknot song, fuck the qotsa song and fuck raining blood. fuck em in their digital asses. i dropped to hard cus i got stuck with the slipknot and qotsa songs in set 7, then on hard raining blood was whooping my ass, wtf?! now i cant beat the final battle on hard XD
you can unlock the dragonforce song if you beat career on expert, hard, or medium
hardest of the GHs for sure~
-
Oh dear 3's & 7's is really tough? That's the one song that I'm dying to play above all others! I can see why though, the song itself sounds about penultimate tier worthy. Can't wait to try it myself. I was going to go through career mode on hard to start off with, just to unlock all the songs, but now it sounds like I'll struggle even with that!
Thanks for the info tenkei! :thumbsup Hope you get past the final boss soon enough! Any favourites so far?
-
favorites so far... hmmm
The Killers - When You Were Young
Rage - Bulls on Parade
GnR - Welcome to the Jungle
Smashing Pumpkins - Cherub Rock
Eric Johnson - Cliffs of Dover (quite challenging, but really fun)
I havent played any of the bonus tracks yet really
also, the muse song blows ass. not actually hard, but tiring and lame.
-
Muse is awesome, but they're far from guitar rock. It's like having a Post-Rock Band game, it's nice to listen to but would be boring as a game
They had some Rock Band Tour thing go to my school today, was busy the whole day so only got a chance to play one song before they had to take the little setup down.
The guitar feels almost like a real guitar, it was awesome, though I thought the picking thing was a bit harder to move really fast if you tend to play it like a real guitar. Love how it has buttons on the bottom of the neck though and some little improve sections  I'm expecting some tapping solos
The drums do have a kick drum, you play it on the orange lines that go across the board.
I really want a ps3 now so I can get the game. Since my ps2 is fucked, I think that would be the best choice. And they did drop the 80gb $100 bucks. It's not like I have the money though, I'm trying to convince my little brother to convince my parents to buy one XD Maybe I'll have to settle for the 40gb, but I'm not sure if it can play legacy ps1 and ps2 games.
Haven't even played GH3 yet...
I might go to Bestbuy since they always have guitar hero to play(or maybe even rock band)
-
I finally got through the Slipknot song. Almost done with the set, just need to beat the encore. The Muse song was actually the easiest on that set. It's got the ridiculous tremolo picking, but I can get through that with some ease. It was the part with the stretches that screwed me up.
I'm probably never gonna play any of those songs in that set again, lol.
-
i'm in the same situation as boykun now. i dont know why i was bitching about the qotsa song so much, its pretty hard, but not as hard as the slipknot song. the solo for the seventh encore are endless so i cant get past it. i wont play any of these songs in quickplay for sure, except maybe stricken, i kinda liked that one actually.
I beat the game on hard finally. the last battle is a fucken bitch! you get to play dragonforce as the credits roll. my arm is ready to fall off from it XD
EDIT
tried through the fire and flames on expert, just on practice so i could play the whole thing. 2529/3722 notes, 67% lol. fucken insane. longest streak was 50 XD
-
Why are these both in the same thread? Two completely different games. made by two different developers. grr
-

Oh snap! During the credits? I think I'll increase my chances of arthritis by 100% just by playing it  I'm simply amazed you can get through the intro on expert :o

I can understand why, but Guitar Hero was originally made by Harmonix before they moved on to Rock Band, and minus the microphone and drum peripherals, they're essentially the same game.
-
Guitar Hero 3 and Rock Band were developed by different people >_>
And Rock Band deserves its own thread, not to be mushed into a Guitar Hero one /pif
Oh well, I'm sure people will think differently when it's actually releasedin like 20 days
-
Wow, so I got GH3 today, and I'm such a noob. Before I got this, I hadn't really played GH. When I got the GH3 demo, I was ok, able to play at medium, and that was with a controller. So now this is my first time playing with a guitar, and , lemme just says its like learning how to walk again for me, lol. I've only been playing at easy.
So can anyone time me how to activate a power rift on the guitar?
Edit: NVM, I got it
-
I couldnt really make it through the intro, but i played it in practice so i wouldnt fail and could try to the whole sogn XD
also, GH and Rock Band are similar enough that they can share a thread... its not like its a GH/beatmania thread or anything...
anyway~~
I'm always talking about how their should be a Japanese version of GH with J-rock and all that good stuff. So, since I'm lame and bored, I spent the last 3 days making this set list that I think would be perfect for a Japanese GH. Listened to a lot of stuff really hard and closely XD
I really like the set list and I kinda wanna email it to activision even thuogh I know theyll prolly just delete it XD lemme know what you guys think~ (also i didn't put in any battles cus I dont actually like the battles in GH3. thuogh, if there had to be, Hotei, Daita, and Tak Matsumoto would have to be the bosses...)

^ Nice setlist Tenkei! Some good calls there like Asian Kung-Fu Generation and MAXIMUM THE HORMONE! You could always email it to Activision, who knows, there may be plans for a J-Rock downloadable pack somewhere down the line and they could always do with a couple of suggestions! Me personally, I'd have to choose Selfish Love by Miyavi. This instrumental intro alone is probably 8th tier (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f_da4hhwo30) :o :o
Glad you got it modesta! Hope you're enjoying it! Don't worry, even the best of us here started on easy. And although some of the other tracks on harder difficulties may seem daunting, you'll pick it up in no time :D
Just want to ask, has anyone got the new Les Paul controller and experienced any difficulties with it? Numerous GH forum members have raised complaints that others support, e.g. pressing down for a red and green chord also gets picked up by the game as if you're holding down yellow as well.
-
shit, that miyavi song is pretty awesome. one song i wanted to put in originally as the last track was DAITA's Handroid, but its pretty fucking impossible XD
check it out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RhyEAcTZVUE
I too have heard a lot of complaints about the new wireless guitars. makes me glad i didnt get one, i wanted one too...
-
So can you not make custom soundtracks in the game? I planned to put a song like kanashimi twilight on there XD
I have the les paul controller, the wireless one(is there a linked one?). I haven't any trouble so far, I'm a bit worried though cuz I have read of other ppl's problems, don't want it to happen to me.
-
What about... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DMyUFar7pJc
MIKAN MIKAN MIKAN!!
-
Need some Loudness and Sex Machine Guns in there!
I'd switch Art of Life for something like Kurenai too.
BTW Asobi Seksu isn't technically a Japanese band. >_>
Doubt they'd even think about releasing a Japanese release, isn't much money in that, especially for an American company.
But they seriously needed to put a couple Japanese songs in there. Maybe we should flood their inbox with emails
-
you could pretty much put any x japan song in that slot; kurenai, rusty nail, celebration, dahlia, x... i felt art of life was the most fitting, somehow.
-
Let's put in some SKUNK!
http://youtube.com/watch?v=H4VN5XinRZM
-
I just scored my highest streak at 582. So what's everybody highest?
-
Got my copy in on Wednesday. Naturally, I'm still at easy, but getting better. I got my first 5-star last night with Holiday in Cambodia. My streak was around 200~ish.
Funny how the older songs are the better I am at them.
-
tenkei and I almost got full combo on When You Were Young until the last 2 notes, lol.
The streak was around 600 something.
-
1 week left!! Was thinking of getting the 360 version, byt I don't want to shell out for a new controller that apparently doesn't work half the time. I'll get the PS2 version. Funny, the main criticism I hear from fans is that the graphics are poor, but luckily for me, I'm not a graphics whore. Besides, for a game like GH, who needs it?
-
tenkei and I almost got full combo on When You Were Young until the last 2 notes, lol.
lol, that's probably my fave song to play, and first song I play everytime I get on GH
-
Funny, the main criticism I hear from fans is that the graphics are poor, but luckily for me, I'm not a graphics whore. Besides, for a game like GH, who needs it?
Seriously. It's not like you notice anything but the fret board while playing anyway.
-
Yeah I've seen videos of the PS2 version, its fine, the only thing I don't like about it is when you finish the song, the "You Rock" line that pops up in the end looks a bit different to the 360 version, it annoys me a bit for some reason,
-
I FINALLY GOT A COPY! :w00t:
Have only played up to the end of the 2nd tier so far, and unlocked a few bonus songs on the recommendation of others. Highlights for me already include:
Tom Morello's Boss Battle Song - Awesome. I bet Herman Li must be working out how he can recreate the awesome Pac-man sounds.
Don't Hold Back - The Sleeping - Don't like the emo vocals, personally, but I'll be damned if that's not one of the most fun GH songs to play.
F.C.P.R.E.M.I.X. - The Fall of Troy - Hardest song I've played yet :o But a lot of fun.
And the main setlist so far has been rocking, I can see myself coming back to play most of them later, unlike with GHII. And this is a question to the veterans, did you feel GHIII was different when you first played it? I guess I've played GHII for so long that the new system has made me miss a few notes. Oh well, I'll just put it down to seeing these notecharts for the first time that's causing me to miss them. Also Bret Michaels is missing when I play 'Talk Dirty To Me'. Not that I mind, but it is funny as the video of him is still available to purchase in the store, and yet he's not in the game
-
I got a noob question; When I play co-op and I'm bass, I don't like that default bass guitar( a les paul i think) that you have, are the bass guitars called the' finishes' in the guitar store? Cuz I want to get a new one.
Edit: Now I'm thinking not, because I remember purchasing a guitar in that section, and I'm not able to use it as a bass.
-
modesta: there are a couple of basses for sale in the store under 'guitars' theyre after all the other guitars. you can also unlock new basses by beating the various difficulties of co-op.
tuffty: they changed the system for hammer-ons/pull offs again. in gh2 you could pretty much HO/PO anything that was close enough to do so, in fact doing whole solos by just strumming once (its kinda fun XD) but in gh3 you can only HO/PO if thats how the note was played IRL. youll notice which notes you dont have to strum for cus they glow kinda white while the other notes have a darker center o_O
anyway, that threw me off for a while cus i was trying to HO/PO like usual and getting worked, then one day i just noticed the different centers lol
-
So far as I know, there are bass guitars available to buy in the 'Guitar' section. The 'Finishes' section is merely buying 'skins' for certain guitars e.g. instead of the default red Xplorer guitar, you can buy a finish to paint it black (I see those girls walk by...:D)
Just finished Tier 5 at the minute. Some more great fun songs to play with La Grange, Even Flow, Paranoid and Welcome to the Jungle. Although I've noticed something with the bonus songs. The vocals are very quiet on certain songs for example, the screams in Don't Hold Back and amazingly, My Curse, is barely heard. Don't know if this is intentional or some fault with the PS2 version. Oh well, vocals aren't the main focus of the game. And when I kicked into the first Verse of 'My Curse' and seeing a guy stage dive into the crowd, I felt a little tingle down my spine and all is forgiven :D Take This Life is the first song that I've actually failed at 11%. Crazy.
-
hopefully tuffty sees the post above his cus i was editing it to answer his questions while he was posting XD
anyway, i was working my way through the bonus songs, dont know how many i actually played... usually unless a bonus song is really cool, i dont really remember it. i let my sister borrow all the games and my guitar though cus she wanted to try playing, so i wont be playing for a while
I noticed the absence of brett michaels too. wonder what happened. i played his band's song from the bonus sets too, i dont remember if he was on that one though.
-
Thanks for the info guys.
Yeah,.. so I just downloaded a free Halo theme track :O
-
hopefully tuffty sees the post above his cus i was editing it to answer his questions while he was posting XD
Don't worry, I saw! :D Well I've never played a single chord of a guitar in real life so I couldn't honestly tell you if they have done it in a realistic way. And yes this new HO/PO system did throw me off, but it's something else and I think it's a problem of mine though. Cause from what I hear or expect to be a number of strums in the song, doesn't play out that way in Hard difficulty, so I tend to have a habit of over strumming on occasion. XD
I noticed the absence of brett michaels too. wonder what happened. i played his band's song from the bonus sets too, i dont remember if he was on that one though.
He wasn't. 'Go That Far' isn't too bad a song actually.
Sweet modesta! What's it like to play?
-
Well my standard playing is medium, and it got tricky a lot on medium, so it's definitely going to be a challenge for any of you that plays on hard or expert, but If you're good then you'll have no problem :) But other than that, it's really great to play too, the song even has the man's voice from the theme going like 'AHhhhhh' or w/e it is.
Anyone have Slash in the game? I thought it was kinda stupid how if you play 'Welcome to the Jungle' as Slash, there is another Slash playing with you, they should have fixed that
-
I beat Through the Fire and Flames on hard. The same song on expert is lame.
-
Anyone have Slash in the game? I thought it was kinda stupid how if you play 'Welcome to the Jungle' as Slash, there is another Slash playing with you, they should have fixed that
haha really? That's funny. Wonder if there's two Tom Morellos in Bulls On Parade?
-
Rock Band periphreals are breaking. So if anyone has this game (I know I do but there's been some shortages @ best buy) they should make sure the red drum is always responsive and that the strumming works on the guitar.
-
^ That sucks. I hear the blue drum is at fault for most people as well. But despite that, this guy is perhaps playing it a little too much (http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=88480)
-
Does anyone know if the GH guitar is compatible with Rock band? I heard talk about it, but I wasn't given a straight answer
-
From what I heard, no it's not, at least on the PS3, Harmonix say they're working on the compatibility problem and problems in general with the peripheral.
Well I finally did it! GHIII is complete on hard mode baby! I figure what I would do is go through each tier and put them in order of personal preference
Tier 1
Talk Dirty To Me
Hit Me With Your Best Shot
Slow Ride
Rock N Roll All Night
Story Of My Life
Tier 2
Sunshine of Your Love
Barracuda
Schools Out For Summer
Bulls On Parade
Mississippi Queen
Tier 3
The Seeker
Paint It Black
Lay Down
When You Were Young
Miss Murder
Tier 4
Even Flow
Paranoid
Kool Thing
Anarchy In The UK
My Name Is Jonas
Tier 5
La Grange
Welcome To The Jungle
Same Old Song And Dance
Rock You Like A Hurricane
Holiday In Cambodia
Tier 6
Black Magic Woman
Black Sunshine
Pride And Joy
Cherub Rock
The Metal
Tier 7
3's & 7's
Cult Of Personality
Knights of Cydonia
Stricken
Before I Forget
Tier 8
Number Of The Beast
One
Cliffs Of Dover
Raining Blood
The Devil Went Down To Georgia
Fav Songs: A lot to choose from. Playing the intro for Number Of The Beast was as good as I thought and One/Raining Blood had me head banging the way through it XD An unexpected surprise for me was Black Sunshine. Never heard it before I played it and that vocal intro to the song is simply badass. 3's & 7's is as much fun as I hoped it would be, what a crazy note chart. But there are others that deserve mentioning, Sunshine Of Your Love, Barracuda, Even Flow, La Grange, Welcome To The Jungle
Worst Songs: Well that's easy. I didn't like Before I Forget before the game, and that didn't change with some annoying and frustrating chord changes. Also, Miss Murder not so enjoyable. The Metal wasn't much fun to play I thought. If there's going to be any Tenacious D song, it's Tribute!
All in all, the best GH game to date. I have to say there's a huge difficulty spike between Tier 7 & 8 on hard. I can get through the 7 tiers with relative ease with the lowest being 4 stars. Tier 8 however, is virtually all 3 stars. Some sections in Raining Blood and particularly the solo in One, is almost riduclously difficult. Regardless though, I still vastly enjoy playing them.
-
Tier 5 is by far the strongest. Currently I'm on Tier 7 of medium.
-
Well I finally did it! GHIII is complete on hard mode baby! I figure what I would do is go through each tier and put them in order of personal preference
Awesome man. :), get your fingers ready for expert now, Expert mode is just something that I think I'll never be able to do.
I just started Hard mode about 2 days ago, and I can't get past that damn 'Anarchy In The UK' song. It's killing me
-
Does anyone know if the GH guitar is compatible with Rock band? I heard talk about it, but I wasn't given a straight answer
It's a little confusing.
GHII & GHIII controllers = works on Rock Band
Rock Band controllers = do NOT work on GHII or III
But the Rock Band controller sucks anyway so no one wants to play it on GH.
Then again GH isn't a really great game either. :/
-
So I've now played through every song in the game, co-op unlockables only and all. I've mentioned a couple of my favs from the bonus section already, but I have to mention Down N Dirty by LA Slum Lords. Cool main riff, lots of solos and the general feel of a song suited only for playing in dark crowded seedy clubs. Reptilia by The Strokes is another shout out. Easy main riff, but when it comes to the chorus, watch out cause your hands are all over the guitar trying to keep up. I love it. Hard but not overly difficult to play.
-
Two more Guitar Hero games will be released by July, with another to follow in the autumn. Apparently there are big plans to expand the franchise, particularly in Europe...while Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock made more money than any game worldwide across the year. The GH series has now made more than USD 1 billion.
Source: http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=92325
Well with figures like that, there's no way Activision would simply let GHIII be the last one and give out DLC only. 3 games is overkill though, and I'm a fan. Apparently one of the supposed spinoffs will feature heavy collaboration with Aerosmith, featuring tracks by, yup you guessed it, as well as 'their friends'. But I'm not bothered by that. Any GH game I buy will depend on the strength of it's tracklist (which is why I avoided Rock The 80's).
-
Wow, two more by July?! I like guitar hero but I don' like the two titles being close together. I'm sure I'm not gonna get those games right away either.
-
i heard about the aerosmith one, but not the others. actually, my supervisor's brother works on the games (nothing actually game related... it has to do with legal/admin type shit), and he did a lot of hanging out with aerosmith for the upcoming game o_o
-
I'm not a fan of aerosmith, and I'm pretty sure alot of the people who play the game aren't.
I think it's kind of a stupid decision to make a game centered on one artist.
They should just make new songs available to dl.
-
i heard about the aerosmith one, but not the others. actually, my supervisor's brother works on the games (nothing actually game related... it has to do with legal/admin type shit), and he did a lot of hanging out with aerosmith for the upcoming game o_o
Wow, so it's definately true? There is an Aerosmith themed one? :o Any idea on the kind of involvement they've put into the game?
They should just make new songs available to dl.
Problem is, it's all well and good for the hardcore, but the general masses probably don't even bother with DLC and that's probably where the main profit of the GH series comes from.
-
lol im not sure how much they did for the game, the early reports i read (as early as before gh3's release) was that the next game was supposed to be "heavily influenced" by aerosmith and the band's music... whether that means all aerosmith, or mostly aerosmith, or you play as joe perry, or w/e
-
Well, Aerosmith fans will love it.
I'll wait to see the set list.
-
Just let it be region free if it'll have a good track list and wont be released at the same time world wide. I'm no fan of waiting.. Rock Band *sigh*
-
Well it's confirmed. Guitar Hero : Aerosmith coming this June (http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=92845)
Still dunno. I like Aerosmith, I've always wanted 'Love In An Elevator' in a GH game. But a whole game on them? Guess I'll wait for the full tracklist first.
-
Yeah. I never followed them that much, so it'll be a hard sell for me.
Apparently GH: U2 is also in the works. That sounds more up my alley.
-
So they put out Dream On as a free download to pimp the upcoming game, atleast on this side of the water, as the article said. Awesome song for sure, great fun to play and free stuff is always nice. I'm not really sure what I think about an entire game with just Aerosmith tho. The article says that there will be other artists and music in it, but it'll still probably be mostly Aerosmith. One of my favorite things with GH is the fact that it's big variety in the songs and this kinda takes that away. I'm not sure about the "focusing on the story" part either. I kinda feel like, it's not for the story that you play GH. Ah well, games not out yet, it'll be interesting to see how they work all this out. GH is GH after all, and what better way to start off the parties on Fridays? lol.
I wonder about the prize. Hopefully they won't sell it at the same prize as a normal game tho they probably will.
-
i hope the one band per game isnt a continuing trend. i guess there's not really a band out there that i like enough to have the whole game based on. i like the variety.
-
in the aerosmith one you will get some songs by bands that theyve played with and were inlfuenced by like run dmc, stone temple pilots, lenny kravitz, black crowes. also, apparently you start as joe perry and unlock tom hamilton and brad whitford through the game.
while the whole aerosmith nonsense sounds interesting enough, i bet it will be the lowest selling issue in the series... i know i wont be buying it, just renting and beating it in the week i have it for. like everyone is saying, GH is great for the variety.
Also, there's supposedly another GH add-on title thats due out this spring (aerosmith is due in june). its already march so either its BS, been pushed back, or theyre kind of late getting the words out. not even a mention of what it is...
-
I finally got to play Rock Band. Good songs, but when I did the solo tour, and got to the different countries, there were times where all the songs on the list were songs I just wouldn't find enjoyable playing too. Rock band just really nailed some things. Some of the things in the game I liked was when the girl guitarist of my group would sing a little bit of a song with the lead singer, and another part where my guitarist started singing to the words.
One song that I was so happy they put on there was Maps, by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.
-
rock band is alright, but i started with guitar freaks and drum mania. i perfer those games. they have more variety and stuff. the drum mania drumset is way better too.
-
lol I actually don't like those games as much in terms of song selection. It's sorta like playing most other be-mani games but in a different way.
Also you can't really compare the games equipment wise when one was designed for the arcade and one is for the home console >_>
Plus you don't actually play as a band in those games.
I completely understand liking the be-mani ones if you're playing alone, but the best part about Rock Band is playing it with other people since it's like you're actually in a band.
I've played with other people in a real band before, and the game simulates that feeling very well for a video game.
It also feels really good when all of you beat a really hard song on a higher difficulty.
-
^ actually, you can play with two guitars/bass and drums using guitar freaks and drum mania. i can compare equipment-wise because not even counting the layout of the pads (which is way better with drum mania) the feel of hitting the pads is a lot better. im pretty sure the pads are actually made by yamaha. as far as the song selection, there's actual jpop/jrock songs to select from. so yea...it does suck having to pay money for each play since its an arcade game, but guitar freaks/drum mania OWN rock band.
-
well yeah that's what I meant about the equipment. It's an arcade game so the equipment should be better than the equipment for a console. The drums are really good, but I'm not much of a fan of the guitar freaks guitar  If the build quality of the Rock Band equipment were the same quality, you'd probably end up paying well over 300 USD for the set.
And yeah I know that there are jpop/jrock songs on them (and heavily modified rip-offs  ), but I generally don't like them that much. I like the song list of Rock Band more. Plus you have the ability to dl more songs.
I'm not hating on DrumMania and GuitarFreaks, I think they're good games for the most part, but just gotta defend Rock Band, which I love. :P
-
Guitar Hero III rules so much. I finally got the PS2 version today.
My band's "Smeg and the Heads", and if anyone besides the British knows where it's from, I love ya.
-
Just found out that I could use the XBox live mic instead of a Rock band Mic for Rock band, I've done the guitar stuff, so I was gonna ask my friend if I could use his mic, but the XBL mic is ok for me
-
since it's a headset you can sing and play an instrument
-
Yeah I was thinking about starting my own band, but I think it's going to be hard for me trying to focus on the lyrics and guitar notes at the same time. I think I'll try playing to a song I already already know.
-
haha yea just memorize the lyrics to every song you play so you wont have to look at them.
-
I tried it today. I did medium on guitar and then medium on the vocals with Weezer's "say it aint so". I failed so I did medium guitar and easy vocals, and got by. I'll play more later
-
The new Guitar Hero:World Tour (Guitar Hero IV) is adding drums and a mic
GH World Tour Article (http://www.next-gen.biz/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=10615&Itemid=2)
-
oh yeah, saw that the other day. should be pretty cool. i really like the customization features
-
Gamestop has the new GH:On Tour already coming out for the same price as Rock Band had..I would love to have either of the games, just so I can play all night :)
-
Yeah I like that they're adding the create-a-rocker feature. I hope they still have the orginal characters like Izzy and Midori.
-
from what ive read, a few of the original characters will be available as templates in the create-a-rocker. so you could just load the template then not change anything... lol
though i dont see why they wouldnt just have the characters in the game, so who knows... its still early.
-
Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers), Stewart Copeland (The Police) and Travis Barker (Blink 182) test out the upcoming GH drum kit (http://www.gametrailers.com/player/34415.html)
If Chad Smith gives it a thumbs up, then I'm all over it.
Rock Band just came out here in the UK on Fri I think. No way I'm buying it though, certainly not at that price. I'm not made of money, which is a shame cause I'd love to drum to Ride The Lightning. :( Besides I just don't have the space to place the drum kit in my room.
-
the drum kit looks pretty sweet.
^maybe you should wait and save up for world tour then :P
-
it's now official:
Guitar Hero:Metallica comes out next year! :w00t:
that's what I get by checking Gamespot all the time :)
-
started playing gh3 a lot again... anyone play 'impulse' by an endless sporadic? that song is fucken sick!! cant stop playing it now... even made it my myspace song >.> lol
also turned off my PS while it was saving data so all my gh3 data got whiped out XD I went to play today and was like 'wut' when it said there was no gh3 data on my card... just busted out the unlock code XD
-
^ Never really liked it as a song, but it's a fun one to play on Expert. All those HO/PO's, crazy.

Think I'll give it a miss at the moment.
-
nice info. i like aerosmith, but i dont LOVE aerosmith... ill prolly rent it, but im damn sure not buyin.
-
my sister got Rock Band for the wii. It's cool that it has some extra songs with it, but it sucks.
They pretty much took out everything from tour mode, and all you can really do is unlock songs. No custom player models or anything. Totally not worth paying the same for a stripped down version of the game. It did come with slightly better hardware like a wireless guitar... but as there were no extras to really win, it really wasn't as fun.
I guess it's being able to play the game that counts, but they coulda lowered the price a lot more.
I think her BF gave it to her as a present, so we got it for free, thank god. But he shoulda not gotten it, and waited for GH:WT :P
-
Thanks for the info. Looks like I'll be skipping both GH:Aerosmith and Rock Band for now.
-
So some news about Rock Band 2 has been released.
To compete with GH's drum set looks like they're releasing a limited edition ion drum set with symbol pads that doubles as an actual electronic drum set. Also they seemed to have made some needed improvements with the older hardware design. I loved the size of the Rock Band guitar over the GH one, but I hated how it plays compared to the GH one which its size made playing a bit comfortable since I play it like I do a real guitar. >_> Looks like I'm gonna like this one a lot more since they seemed to have addressed the main issues I've had with it. And since old hardware is compatible I'm really hoping they have a solid Wii version this time so I'll only need to get the game and guitar, the old guitar would be good as a rhythm guitar or bass.
Interesting thing with the limited edition drum set, but it does seem a little useless since you don't actually "need" them, but if you want to play real drums I guess. But if you have to shell out more cash for it, I'll skip out.

Parents let their own child drop out of high school to focus on a professional GH career (http://kotaku.com/5037975/parents-let-kid-drop-out-of-high-school-to-focus-on-guitar-hero)
This just blows my mind. He hasn't even touched a real guitar! The parents should be completely ashamed of themselves.
Some more news on the latest GH. There's been a lot of videos, rumours and speculation, too many to list here but the songs that are definately confirmed include:
* Too Much, Too Young, Too Fast - Airbourne
* One Armed Scissor - At the Drive-In
* No Sleep Till Brooklyn - Beastie Boys
* Rebel Yell - Billy Idol
* Stillborn - Black Label Society
* Weapon of Choice - Black Rebel Motorcycle Club
* Dammit - Blink 182
* Feel the Pain - Dinosaur Jr.
* Love Me Two Times - The Doors
* Hotel California - The Eagles
* Everlong - Foo Fighters
* Purple Haze (Live) - Jimi Hendrix
* Wind Cries Mary - Jimi Hendrix
* Obstacle 1 - Interpol
* Beat It - Michael Jackson (Thank God it's not that god awful cover by Fall Out Boy)
* Are You Gonna Go My Way - Lenny Kravitz
* What I've Done - Linkin Park (Ugh....)
* Trapped Under Ice - Metallica (FUCK YES! :w00t:)
* Crazy Train - Ozzy Osbourne
* Mr. Crowley - Ozzy Osbourne
* Misery Business - Paramore
* Hollywood Nights - Bob Seger
* Lazy Eye - Silversun Pickups
* Santeria - Sublime
* Eye of the Tiger - Survivor
* B.Y.O.B. - System of a Down
* Never Too Late - The Answer
* Hot For Teacher - Van Halen (Imagine the intro....)
-
After reading the article it doesn't really sound that bad. From what I understand the guy fails at life, and GH is the only thing he's good at. XD But he's still getting home schooled so I guess some time in the future he could get his life together and get a real job when the whole GH thing is long gone. And I don't really see how him having played a real guitar really has much to do with this. Playing GH is a far cry from actually playing a guitar, unlike the drums where it actually teaches you rhythm and gives you endurance to play.
But anyways, song list looks great so far.
-
there's video of the dev team playing several songs, most notablely Van Halen's 'Hot for Teacher'... song is fucking nuts.
also, some confirmed songs missing from tuffty's list:
*The Guess Who - American Woman
*Nirvana - About a Girl
*The Enemy - Aggro
*Smashing Pumpkins - Bullet with Butterfly Wings
*Modest Mouse - Float On
*Linkin Park - In The End...
*Steve Miller Band - The Joker
*The Doors - Light My Fire
*Bon Jovi - Livin' on a Prayer
*Flo Rida - Low (Travis Barker remix)
*Negramaro - Nuvole e Lenzuola
*Motorhead - Overkill
*Lostprophets - Rooftops
*Oasis - Some Might Say
*Creedence Clearwater Revival - Up Around the Bend
Muse, Korn, Dream Theater, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, and The Police will also have songs in the game, most likely. Tool has been said to have contributed 'Schism' 'Parabola' and 'Vicarious' to the game. NOFX has said their song 'Soul Doubt' will be in as well. And Joe Satriani's 'Satch Boogie' will supposedly be in the game. Grand Funk Railroad's 'We're an American Band' is a possible addition. Jimi Hendrixx's estate has sent master tapes of 'Foxy Lady' and 'Little Wing' to the developers, and Sammy Hagar has rerecorded 'I Can't Drive 55' for the series, but none of these have been confirmed for World Tour yet.
-
^ Forgot about Flo Rida but this is the first time I've ever heard of these choices. Bullet with Butterfly Wings would be great, but Rooftops?! Aw hell naw! Awful song. And In The End? Please not 2 Linkin Park songs..
And thanks for info on the Hot For Teacher video tenkei! Holy cow that intro was just as insane as I imagined!! :o Would be awesome to HO/PO those notes with the new touch sensitive frets
-
* Hotel California - The Eagles
I'm sold even if this is the only track in the game. XD
And Bon Jovi? Awesome!
-

lolwut?
-
I think the guy needs a new pair of pants.
-
update on some new confirmed songs:
*Radio Futura - Escuela de Calor
*Fleetwood Mac - Go Your Own Way
*Anouk - Good God
*Beatsteaks - Hail to the Freaks
*Pat Benatar - Heartbreaker
*Mars Volta - L'Via L'Viaquez
*Tokio Hotel - Monsoon
*Blondie - One Way or Another
*Coldplay - Shiver
*No Doubt - Spiderwebs
*Stuck in the Sound - Toy Boy
*Kent - Vinternoll2
*Hushpuppies - You're Gonna Say Yeah
-
Nice. Blondie and No Doubt are the two in that set that grab my attention. GH4 looks much nicer than Aerosmith in terms of track selection so far.
-
yeah, i think the setlist is shaping reeeeally nice. Can't really say which songs I'm looking forward to most yet. usually when i play through the game, some song I wouldn't expect ends up being my favorite, like When You Were Young and La Grange from gh3 lol
-
^ Yeah I hear ya. I didn't know a lot of songs and artists on GH3, and I grew to really like them. I can't say the say for Rock Band though. Is anyone also interested in Rock Band 2? I think I'm done with that series. I don't have a problem with it, but I just feel that GH is more for me :)
-
The track list for the first Rock Band was alright but not that great, but I could say the same for the first Guitar Hero(which IMO was even worse, but I still loved the game). But they did have a pretty nice selection of downloadable songs after a while (though I myself never dled them).
But this time, the RB2 setlist to me looks just as good as GH:WT. And I read somewhere they're trying to make it so that the equipment for both games are compatible with each other. So if that's what happens I'll probably try to get both games. But so far I'm digging the new GH equipment more so that's probably the biggest thing for me.
And since we're on that topic here's the RB2 setlist from Kotaku. Plus you can add most of the tracks from the first one plus downloadable content. They're also giving you 20 free downloads.

Have to say that's a decent tracklist. Still not very impressed by it. IMO GH2 still rocks the best original tracklist thus far. Hopefully the additional feats will make up for it. Such as downloadable content, backwards compatibility etc etc.
-
I think there's no argument in saying that when it comes to DLC, Rock Band has gone far beyond anything GH3 has brought up. Not only is there so much more, but you can either buy songs seperately or in the pack of 3 structure whereas GH3 has a fixed 3 pack structure and not as many songs to choose.
RB2 has a great setlist. Nice selection so far and additions like Colony of Birchmen, Battery, Give It Away & Come Out & Play sound like a lot of fun to play. It's hard to compare between RB2 and GH:WT at the minute because a full setlist for the latter hasn't been announced. However if the rumours are true and 'A Song For The Dead' by Queens of the Stone Age is coming to GH:WT, then that is an instant buy. ASFTD + Expert drums =

Did they run out of classics or something? Sure Hotel California, Sweet Home Alabama cannot be denied, but it's a setlist with unknown tracks by popular bands (Assassin by Muse? Surely Time is Running Out or you know one of their singles would have been much better. I know going by singles selection isn't always the best option, but they're obviously good for a reason) or songs by new bands.
This setlist isn't all that great to me. I'd say it's got more tracks that I dislike, have no feelings for or haven't even heard of. I know that all previous setlists are like that to a degree, but for once I can say that I am not looking forward to playing the songs I hate which I've already mentioned. I don't think I'll buy it on opening day as a result.
In other news, Metallica's Death Magnetic album is available to download for GHIII including exclusive tracks for the game.
-
i think the setlist looks pretty awesome. i love the variety, and i dont discount any song until i play it through. plus if i dont like a song, i only have to play it once lol... anyway, think it looks good! cant wait to play
-
I like the setlist. I think it's a nice distribution into different genres and eras of rock music.
I actually got to play a demo version of it yesterday. Only got to play the drums for "The Joker" since the person there when I played was a bitch and wouldn't let me play again... The drums really didn't feel much different from Rock Band's except for the middle tom which threw me off for a bit, and I liked the bass peddle a lot more. Felt more like a real peddle than Rock Band's annoying one. The cymbal pads didn't really do much to feel as I thought it would though they were nice. Wanted to try the new guitar but didn't get a chance to... that's what everyone wanted to play... damn losers, the drums were where it was at!
Assassin's has crazy drums so that might be why they chose that track, but I think just about any muse track would have had awesome drums.
As for gameplay, unlike Rock Band you can't bring each other back, once one of your band members fail you all do. I think it's a good feature to keep you on your toes and make you pay attention to your band mates to keep them alive, but it could get annoying if one of them sucks.
But after comparing GH and RB's setlists, RB is the clear winner for me.

-
Got a chance to play RB2 for a few hours.
They really rose the level with that game. It was the same leap that GH2 had over the original GH. Some of the songs on there are just insane. Especially with the Dream Theater and Judas Priests tracks. I thought it was unthinkable to put a grind-core song on the game, but they proved me wrong. XD Abnormality's Vision has blast beats galore, gutteral growls/screams, and intricate guitars. Gives me hope that they might put in a Between the Buried and Me song on there someday :P But one problem, you don't have fucking double bass pedals. Fuck Through the Fire and the Flames, all that song had was guitar solos, the hardest songs in this game destroys it with all the thrash and prog-metal stuff.
-
X JAPAN on RB 2!!!
unfort, one probs: had to buy the game with the card for the 20 free songs
also, it only had the recent song "I.V." still, so cool!
-
And just found out RB2 does have Between the Buried and Me. Prequel to the Sequel from the Colors album was one of the 20 free dlc songs.
Got to play it at a cousin's house, and the drums are fucking hard(not that I was expecting them to be any easier). And the guitars are super fun. I love you Rock Band. You win just for having that one song. Wish they chose a different song though, but the song is awesome anyways.

I have a rock band/GHWT looking box as a xmas present downstairs.. I have no idea if it is though, lol
-
LOL. Tell me if it's GHWT for the 360, so i can beat you bra. I bought it. Played it. Boxed it again. Wrapped it up. Brought it to my parents and gave it to myself as a christmas gift. XD The biggest and badassest gift of them all, lol.
Drums are pretty epic for it. And it does make me seriously sweaty.
-
It was a computer chair XD

LOL!

The Guardian sticks up for gaming following attack from music mag NME
UK daily broadsheet The Guardian has chosen to stick up for the games industry following an article in yesterday’s NME magazine that attacked titles like Rock Band and Guitar Hero for deterring kids from playing real musical instruments.
The NME piece quoted Q Radio presenter David Quantick as stating: “Games are not rock 'n' roll, they're metal – aggressive, loud, violent and scared of women. You can't dance to a game or have sex to it. Games are still for nerds. Rock 'n' roll is about f*****g, games are about w*****g. Rock music makes you leave the house and meet drugs, games make you stay in and smell of your own p**s.”
In response, Guardian blogger Keith Stuart today commented: “The piece begins with a rather familiar complaint, this time voiced by Chad Kroeger of Nickleback, that games like Guitar Hero are diverting kids away from taking up real instruments.
“Personally, I feel that if Guitar Hero has prevented the foundation of just one new Nickleback-inspired band, Harmonix, the creator the Guitar Hero series, should be given some sort of medal.”
So that’s a big thumbs up for The Guardian, then. And a saliva-coated pigeon’s head for NME.

“Personally, I feel that if Guitar Hero has prevented the foundation of just one new Nickleback-inspired band, Harmonix, the creator the Guitar Hero series, should be given some sort of medal.”
Hear hear.
Personally, I find that argument rather redundant. Surely, anyone in their right mind can see the differences between playing an actual guitar and a plastic imitation, or making your music rather than mimicking it by following a determined path on a screen. GH/RB is a form of escapism, like any other game you care to mention, I can''t play a note on an actual guitar but with GH I can feel like Hendrix/Prince/SRV.
GH should never ever be seen as a replacement to the satisfaction you must get when playing a genuine guitar, only as a bit of a laugh with yourself or with mates. And if anything, GH's bound to inspire more people to play guitar and introduce people to good music (most of the time). Who have kids got to look up to as rock icons nowadays? Nickelback? Fallout Boy? Give me a break.
-
^Yeah, people are just having fun. I think everyone I know who likes these games has little interest in actually playing instruments. They just play the games for fun.
I forgot to post it up before, but the thread I where I found the article had some research thing about how guitar sales in the UK have gone up, with kids saying that GH was the reason for their interest. (I think that's what it was) But now I can't get to that thread.
-
My drums broke for the 2nd time. It's getting seriously annoying since unscrewing the back plate takes like 45 minutes and screwing it back another 15. Sending it in? Waiting 6 weeks? I don't think so. I just need to get a hold of some good glue.
I'd be appreciative if they actually made shit that works. Like the Xplorer Guitar. Yeah I'm pissed.
-
I'm thinking of finally buying me a guitar for the games. I know a guy who plays expert all the time and I want to be good like him  Of course, I beat the game on medium
-
^Yeah, people are just having fun. I think everyone I know who likes these games has little interest in actually playing instruments. They just play the games for fun.
Funny you mention this cause the majority of the people I play the games with and love it, play instruments or are musicians, myself included. It's just a fun game where you can rock out with friends where your tastes and proficiency level doesn't hinder the amount of fun you have playing together.
And for any musician, it's not about following musical icons, when it comes to playing music. Most people play instruments for the love of music in general and have no "guitar hero." Those who do most likely end up giving up fast.
That bad thing about this game is that to me it brings out a bunch of musical posers. I don't give a crap what music or artist inspired you to play, but if they keep at it and don't care about kicking ass on the instrument or playing what others consider "good music", you have my respect. Even if you're in bands I hate musically.
-
hey guys got me a guitar last weekend..been playing it for hours on PS3 and the last couple of days it wont sync at all..it always flashes every few seconds..what do I do?
EDIT: never mind..i ran out of battery power  it works now
-
Damn, talk about franchise rape  Here's a list of GH games released this year according to a reliable source in Activision. Remember, if true, they're all released this year:
(360/PS3/Wii)
- Guitar Hero 5
- Guitar Hero : Van Halen
- DJ Hero
- Band Hero
^ http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/van-halen-gh5-band-hero-for-2009
- Guitar Hero : Greatest Hits (http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/guitar-hero-getting-greatest-hits) (Essentially a compilation of tracks from GH I-III.)
(DS)
- Guitar Hero : Modern Hits (http://kotaku.com/5165739/guitar-hero-modern-hits-is-totally-official) (Guitar Hero on the DS is pretty pointless anyway, but having Fall Out Boy on it? Even more so.)
- Another untitled DS game in plans
And that's not to forget GH : Metallica also for release. DJ Hero could be the only new experience among them but I'm already not interested because of the letters 'D' and 'J'.
Now I'm interested in GH : Metallica sure, and if they could get a GH : Iron Maiden or a GH : Josh Homme edition, that would satisfy me for a long time :D
-
Yea, I heard about this. People are already getting burned out on all these plastic guitar games. Even me, the only games I have are RB2 and GHWT and I'm already feeling burned out on it. I really don't like Activision, and while DJ hero might be interesting, I hope all their other ventures fail. I'm tempted to get greatest hits though...
-
Ok I figured GH : Metallica might be worth buying if they get a decent tracklist on there, and wouldn't you know it, the choice of songs is nigh perfect. Not only are my favourite Metallica tracks on there (apart from And Justice For All which sadly didn't make it) but to have Thin Lizzy on there as well? Kyuss? Kick ass. Watched the opening to someone playing through Seek And Destroy and I just know it's gonna be so much fun once I get my hands on it.
So why oh why does the Europe release have to be in June? :banghead:
-
GH:WT had a much better track list than previous games. Dunno about GH5 though. Between GHIII and WT, I really have enough variety already though. It would have to be an amazing set to make me want another GH game right now.
-
I noticed the absence of brett michaels too. wonder what happened. i played his band's song from the bonus sets too, i dont remember if he was on that one though.
OUCH!
Bret Michaels Flattened at Tony Awards Close Up View (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JocPcYBCN18#lq-lq2-hq)
-
^ Ya I just saw that.
I feel bad cuz he was injured, but the way it all happend really made me laugh
-
  Seems like every rose has it's thorn, but any rock sell out can get knocked flat be a stage background.
Playing GH Metallica at the min and it could well be my fav GH to date. I realise I say this everytime a recent GH game I get comes out, but it really is that good! This is the first one I can play online with, the little improvements like tapping, and a kickass setlist to play through (mostly at least, the less said about yawnfest that is 'Mother Of Mercy' or 'Turn The Page' the better).
-
Does anyone know if any DLC is confirmed for GH:Metallica? I think it's the best GH to date, but there's a couple of songs that I would love to see in there. If they could get Ride The Lightning, Leper Messiah, Damage Inc, Blackened and maybe ...And Justice For All in there, then the game would be near perfect. But I haven't heard any plans.
There's so many GH games planned though that they may just release them and not bother with DLC much...
-
Guitar Hero 5's setlist has been unveiled: (http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/gh5-tracks-game-details-emerge)
* AFI - "Medicate"

* Rush - "The Spirit Of Radio (Live)"
* Scars On Broadway - "They Say"
* Smashing Pumpkins - "Bullet With Butterfly Wings"
* Spacehog - "In The Meantime"
* Sunny Day Real Estate - "Seven"
* T. Rex - "20th Century Boy"
* Weezer - "Why Bother?"
* Wild Cherry - "Play That Funky Music"
* Attack! Attack! UK - "You And Me"

* Tom Petty - "Runnin' Down A Dream"
* Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers - "American Girl"
* Vampire Weekend - "A-Punk"
* The White Stripes - "Blue Orchid"
* Wolfmother - "Back Round"
Not sure if there's more tracks to be revealed but even with this, I think it's probably the weakest setlist yet. 'Jailbreak', '2 Minutes To Midnight' great stuff, and it undoubtedly has great bands in there, but it's just a poor choice of songs for the most part. Love QOTSA but I can think of better songs for the game than 'Make It With Chu'. I wanted the Eagles Of Death Metal for a long time but 'Wannabe In LA' isn't a great choice either, surely 'Speaking In Tongues' is a better choice?
Also, boo Neversoft/Activision for not making GH:WT DLC compatible with GH:Metallica. I'd love to play the new EODM pack but it won't play with GH:Metallica. :banghead:
-
lol i actually quite like the setlist :o
i wont be able to play it as im sure theyre beyond producing shit for PS2 still. need to get a next gen system damnit
-
Oh shit! Thrice - Deadbolt. That shit came out of nowhere.
Looks like a solid setlist. Great variety of tracks.
Don't know if I'll be getting it though. Gonna wait for some reviews on the actual gameplay and have tried the equipment. Haven't gotten one of these types of games since the first Rock Band. Still don't like the fat square necks on the guitar hero guitars, it cramps my hand after a while.
-
Even though I've been more into Rock Band that song list does look pretty good. Do You Feel Like We Do Live would be kick ass if it's the version that's like, 15 min long. :w00t:
-
lol i actually quite like the setlist :o
i wont be able to play it as im sure theyre beyond producing shit for PS2 still. need to get a next gen system damnit
Time to get a 360 and we'll make a band with rev! lol
-
I had no idea Rockband was on PSP now. I really liked the demo, so I'm gonna get it.
-
Last 15 tracks to make the final setlist:
* 3 Doors Down - "Kryptonite"
* Arctic Monkeys - "Brianstorm"
* Blink-182 - "The Rock Show"
* Dire Straits - "Sultans Of Swing"
* Jimmy Eat World - "Bleed American"
* Johnny Cash - "Ring Of Fire"
* Megadeth - "Sweating Bullets"
* Mötley Crüe - "Looks That Kill"
* Muse - "Plug In Baby"
* Nirvana - "Smells Like Teen Spirit"
* Queen & David Bowie - "Under Pressure"
* Stevie Wonder - "Superstition"
* The Killers - "All The Pretty Faces"
* The Raconteurs - "Steady As She Goes"
* TV On The Radio - "Wolf Like Me"
Ok quite a good list looking at it. Superstition would be good, as would Ring Of Fire. Smells Like Teen Spirit finally arriving too.
As well as that, they announced the inclusion of another super rocker in the game. Shirley Manson. (http://www.eurogamer.net/videos/guitar-hero-5s-shirely-manson) Better than Haley Williams any day of the week! :D
-
RockBaaaaand!
I haven't played in a long time. I'm stuck on Metallica's Battery. Guh.
-
im so behind... i jsut saw ads for GH: Van Halen today. that will be EPIC. prolly the first GH oneband game id be willing to buy.
-
I'm from USA, I want to buy either Guitar Hero or Rock Band for the Wii, maybe for the PS3 also if I'm gonna get it.
But what I really want to know is if there is a version with j-pop/j-rock songs. Can I even add songs to it, like downloaded on the website or just upload an mp3s?
-
You can't make you own songs sadly - though some people have hacked the PC version to do that. There isn't a j-pop/rock version out, though it is a cool idea.
If you're torn between Wii or PS3, go with the PS3 as it has better sound.
-
The Music Studio feature first found in World Tour allows you to create your own simplistic tracks to upload and play along to. You usually see some people's attempts at covering J-Rock on there. The best one I've seen is Simple and Clean by Utada Hikaru
Simple And Clean (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EuOuZDzzGgk#normal)
But again, it should not be considered a substitute for the real thing.
-
anyone remember my GH J-Rock setlist i made a couple years ago? i still dream of that... its a few pages back, you should check it out (http://forum.jphip.com/index.php?topic=13441.msg420892#msg420892) for shits & giggles lol
EDIT
lol went back and looked at it myself, i still think its a damn good setlist... i think i'll dick around this week and make a GH: J-Rock 2 setlist lol (still formatted like the old GH games and not like world tour)
-
found this on youtube
[Guitar Hero Anime] "God Knows" - Aya Hirano 【『God Knows』平野 綾】 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y0e101eDyzU#ws-normal)
what is this exactly, Guitar Hero Anime? is there really such a thing?
like i said before, I'd rather have a japanese version of Guitar hero/Rock band, this is cool, too. since there are alot of great anime songs to rock to.
UPDATE: nevermind I think it's a custom-made thing, but I wonder how they do it. There are videos on youtube with japanese songs on guitar hero/rock band. I would love to know how to do that. Oh PC version? you can add songs to it in order to play? How does that work? and this would only work on PC version, not on PS3 or Wii?
^@Tenkei: Great setlist! sounds awesome, I personally want to play j-rock songs like:
-L'Arc-en-Ciel: Driver's High, Ready Steady Go, link, MY HEART DRAWS A DREAM, STAY AWAY, Daybreak's Bell, New World, Nexus 4, I'm so happy, Pretty girl, HONEY, Dive to Blue, etc. to name a few...
-VAMPS: Love Addict, Cosmos
-GACKT: redemption, Another world, Mizerable, vanilla, black stone
-Detroit Metal City: SATSUGAI, Slash Killer, Grotesque
-X Japan: forever love, last song
-Janne Da Arc: Shining Ray, ICE, Dolls,
-BAAD - Kimiga Sukidato Sakebitai
-WANDS: Sekai ga owaru made wa... ,sekaijyu no dare yiori kitto, ai o kataru yori kuchizuke o kawasou
-GReeeeN: Ai uta, Kiseki
-Aqua Timez: Velonica, niji
-Sambo master: Seishun Kyousoukyoku, Sekai wa sore wo ai to yobun da ze
-Brillant Green: Ash like Snow
-Kobukuro: Akai ito, sakura
-YUI: My Generation, again, Life, rolling star
-Aya Kamiki: Kizu Darake Demo Dakishimete
-enoz - lost my music, god knows
just to name a few... :D
UPDATE: So instead of having a japanese Guitar Hero/Rock Band version, there is something called GuitarFreaks (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GuitarFreaks) and DrumMania (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DrumMania). but it's mostly arcade, I think.

Finally Thinking about getting Guitar Hero, Rock Band or any other rhythm/music simulation games for the Wii. but I dunno the different between them.
according to forum members which one should I get? Buying for the Nintendo Wii.
-never had one so want one with a bundle. including controllers.
-Want a game that will play guitar, drums, vocals.
-one with good variety of songs, mainly recent and modern, with pop, rock and hip-hop music is possible.
-maybe one that can make your own tracks or freestyle play(?)
-Though what I really want is a J-rock/Jpop version, but ain't getting it anytime soon, I'd believe.
hopefully getting one as soon as possible so please answer soon.
btw, Would one guitar, drums, microphone controllers for , like, Rock Band works on other games, like Rock Revolution, Guitar Hero, etc. and vice versa? is it compatible?

I hve rock band 2 on the ps3 and I don't think it's possible to make custom tracks for it. I think you have to get guitar hero then if you really want the custom tracks thing. I personally prefer Rock band, cause I like the tracklist better. Also rock band has alot of downloadable songs to offer. At least on the playstation, don't know if it applies to the Wii as well. Iguess you should just look at the songs both games have to offer and then decide wich game to choose.

It's on my list to pick-up once I need a new game.
-
Oh my god, I've been playing Rockband 2 on X-Box 360 for about two weeks now, and I love it. I play guitar, and my friend plays drums. This game is so awesome.
-
I've been thinking about getting GH for Xbox for a while, now I was wondering if I should get GH or Rock Band.
I only intend to play single guitar and no other instruments (too expensive and not enough space at home) I played GH before at a friends house and asked another friend what he thinks what I should get, but that didn't help really ^^
I heard there's some problems with certain guitar controllers as well...
I'm really at a loss right now :)
Any recommendations which game I should get?
-
If you buy rockband 2, you get all the instruments with it. You never know when you will have people over to play also. It's a great party game. While it's a great game for a group, it's just as much fun solo.
-
Yeah Rock band is more party play, but also hella fun when you play by yourself. The impossible guitar challenge is quiet hard if you like a challenge on guitar. However if you don't really care about playing with your friends, then maybe guitar hero is more for you. A friend of mine has it and says that it's more difficult then rock band after he played rock band at my house. Guitar hero seems more suitable for solo play. Also the controllers of both games are fine, don't worry about it.

As I've said elsewhere, the Logitech guitar controller is just ridiculously well made. It's like they made a real guitar and put controller hardware in it, and as a result it retails for something like $200.

Wow that's alot of money!!! Do you have a picture of it? I'd like to see what it looks like.

The rumours were right; Activision has unveiled Guitar Hero 6 as Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock. The game's due out this autumn.
Headline features are an "all-new, story-driven Quest Mode" narrated by KISS front man Gene Simmons; a redesigned, "rock-inspired" controller; the biggest on-disc selection of rock music so far and a "Quickplay+" mode.
Quest mode has turned to the fantastical, as eight new characters and a Demi-God of Rock go from New York digs to molten lava fields to battle against The Beast and save rock and roll. Ridiculous powers can be unlocked on the way, and a new art style has been employed.
Quickplay+ mode provides 13 quick-fire challenges for every song - even the old, imported ones. These challenges range from band streaks to high scores and to power challenges, where campaign characters use unlocked abilities to reach impossible scores.
Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock features over 90 songs from bands like DragonForce, Megadeth, Black Sabbath, Slipknot, Queen, Muse and Kiss. The first announced songs are listed below.
The new controller reflects the game's new art style and has been made specifically for "shredding".
Neversoft's making the game for PS3 and 360 while Vicarious Visions develops for Wii.

90 songs is quite a lot, but considering songs are 3 mins at least, maybe 10 mins at most (considering we have Dragonforce confirmed), the story mode can't last longer than 10 hrs. I dunno, seems like a rather pointless addition.

Helter Skelter on the Bass was kicking my ass on Beatles Rock Band. Got it right after almost 10 times.

^That song made my hand hurt like no other
I misss playing RB:B, seriously wish I had my Wii still.

GH:Warriors Of Rock Setlist Trailer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H-Vecp785vU#ws)
Who else is sick of that song 'Bodies'? Overused to the extreme. An ok setlist, but I'm not hyped for it as I have been previously.
-
I had ordered John Lennon's Rickenbacker 325 and got George Harrison's Gretsch Duo Jet, instead. I'm pretty happy it happened I only paid $50 for it, and it still retails for $80+

Bye-bye Guitar Hero.

Activision chops Guitar Hero and True Crime, no music or Hawk games in ’11
Wed, Feb 09, 2011 | 22:43 GMT
It said in the financial release for its full-year fiscal 2011 financial report that “due to continued declines in the music genre, the company will disband Activision Publishing’s Guitar Hero business unit and discontinue development on its Guitar Hero game for 2011.”
On True Crime, it added that it would “stop development on True Crime: Hong Kong. These decisions are based on the desire to focus on the greatest opportunities that the company currently has to create the world’s best interactive entertainment experiences.”
In a statement on its website, developer United Front Games said it was “sorry” it did not finish the project.
“We are sorry we did not get a chance to complete this project with Acitivision, but we understand why,” the statement reads.

Wow, the end of an era huh? Just goes to show what happens when you rape a franchise as much as they did with GH. They better be careful or one of their biggest cash cows (COD) will end up the same way.
