LOL. Tell me if it's GHWT for the 360, so i can beat you bra. I bought it. Played it. Boxed it again. Wrapped it up. Brought it to my parents and gave it to myself as a christmas gift. XD The biggest and badassest gift of them all, lol.

Drums are pretty epic for it. And it does make me seriously sweaty.

The Guardian sticks up for gaming following attack from music mag NME

UK daily broadsheet The Guardian has chosen to stick up for the games industry following an article in yesterday’s NME magazine that attacked titles like Rock Band and Guitar Hero for deterring kids from playing real musical instruments.

The NME piece quoted Q Radio presenter David Quantick as stating: “Games are not rock 'n' roll, they're metal – aggressive, loud, violent and scared of women. You can't dance to a game or have sex to it. Games are still for nerds. Rock 'n' roll is about f*****g, games are about w*****g. Rock music makes you leave the house and meet drugs, games make you stay in and smell of your own p**s.”

In response, Guardian blogger Keith Stuart today commented: “The piece begins with a rather familiar complaint, this time voiced by Chad Kroeger of Nickleback, that games like Guitar Hero are diverting kids away from taking up real instruments.

“Personally, I feel that if Guitar Hero has prevented the foundation of just one new Nickleback-inspired band, Harmonix, the creator the Guitar Hero series, should be given some sort of medal.”

So that’s a big thumbs up for The Guardian, then. And a saliva-coated pigeon’s head for NME.

Hear hear.

Personally, I find that argument rather redundant. Surely, anyone in their right mind can see the differences between playing an actual guitar and a plastic imitation, or making your music rather than mimicking it by following a determined path on a screen. GH/RB is a form of escapism, like any other game you care to mention, I can''t play a note on an actual guitar but with GH I can feel like Hendrix/Prince/SRV.

GH should never ever be seen as a replacement to the satisfaction you must get when playing a genuine guitar, only as a bit of a laugh with yourself or with mates. And if anything, GH's bound to inspire more people to play guitar and introduce people to good music (most of the time). Who have kids got to look up to as rock icons nowadays? Nickelback? Fallout Boy? Give me a break.

^Yeah, people are just having fun. I think everyone I know who likes these games has little interest in actually playing instruments. They just play the games for fun.

I forgot to post it up before, but the thread I where I found the article had some research thing about how guitar sales in the UK have gone up, with kids saying that GH was the reason for their interest. (I think that's what it was) But now I can't get to that thread.

My drums broke for the 2nd time. It's getting seriously annoying since unscrewing the back plate takes like 45 minutes and screwing it back another 15. Sending it in? Waiting 6 weeks? I don't think so. I just need to get a hold of some good glue.

I'd be appreciative if they actually made shit that works. Like the Xplorer Guitar. Yeah I'm pissed.

I'm thinking of finally buying me a guitar for the games. I know a guy who plays expert all the time and I want to be good like him  Of course, I beat the game on medium

Funny you mention this cause the majority of the people I play the games with and love it, play instruments or are musicians, myself included. It's just a fun game where you can rock out with friends where your tastes and proficiency level doesn't hinder the amount of fun you have playing together.

And for any musician, it's not about following musical icons, when it comes to playing music. Most people play instruments for the love of music in general and have no "guitar hero." Those who do most likely end up giving up fast.

That bad thing about this game is that to me it brings out a bunch of musical posers. I don't give a crap what music or artist inspired you to play, but if they keep at it and don't care about kicking ass on the instrument or playing what others consider "good music", you have my respect. Even if you're in bands I hate musically.

Damn, talk about franchise rape  Here's a list of GH games released this year according to a reliable source in Activision. Remember, if true, they're all released this year:

(360/PS3/Wii)
- Guitar Hero 5
- Guitar Hero : Van Halen
- DJ Hero
- Band Hero
^ http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/van-halen-gh5-band-hero-for-2009

- Guitar Hero : Greatest Hits (Essentially a compilation of tracks from GH I-III.)

(DS)
- Guitar Hero : Modern Hits (Guitar Hero on the DS is pretty pointless anyway, but having Fall Out Boy on it? Even more so.)
- Another untitled DS game in plans

And that's not to forget GH : Metallica also for release. DJ Hero could be the only new experience among them but I'm already not interested because of the letters 'D' and 'J'.

Now I'm interested in GH : Metallica sure, and if they could get a GH : Iron Maiden or a GH : Josh Homme edition, that would satisfy me for a long time :D

Yea, I heard about this. People are already getting burned out on all these plastic guitar games. Even me, the only games I have are RB2 and GHWT and I'm already feeling burned out on it. I really don't like Activision, and while DJ hero might be interesting, I hope all their other ventures fail. I'm tempted to get greatest hits though...

Ok I figured GH : Metallica might be worth buying if they get a decent tracklist on there, and wouldn't you know it, the choice of songs is nigh perfect. Not only are my favourite Metallica tracks on there (apart from And Justice For All which sadly didn't make it) but to have Thin Lizzy on there as well? Kyuss? Kick ass. Watched the opening to someone playing through Seek And Destroy and I just know it's gonna be so much fun once I get my hands on it.

So why oh why does the Europe release have to be in June? :banghead:

GH:WT had a much better track list than previous games. Dunno about GH5 though. Between GHIII and WT, I really have enough variety already though. It would have to be an amazing set to make me want another GH game right now.

  Seems like every rose has it's thorn, but any rock sell out can get knocked flat be a stage background.

Playing GH Metallica at the min and it could well be my fav GH to date. I realise I say this everytime a recent GH game I get comes out, but it really is that good! This is the first one I can play online with, the little improvements like tapping, and a kickass setlist to play through (mostly at least, the less said about yawnfest that is 'Mother Of Mercy' or 'Turn The Page' the better).

Does anyone know if any DLC is confirmed for GH:Metallica? I think it's the best GH to date, but there's a couple of songs that I would love to see in there. If they could get Ride The Lightning, Leper Messiah, Damage Inc, Blackened and maybe ...And Justice For All in there, then the game would be near perfect. But I haven't heard any plans.

There's so many GH games planned though that they may just release them and not bother with DLC much...
