Title: [Louise-sama] Breakeven | Prologue
Post by: Louise-sama on December 01, 2013, 08:47:29 AM
This is a teaser for a story that has been haunting me for a while.
No, I won't abandon any of my series, but let me just vent on this one.

==============================================
Breakeven
Louise-sama
==============================================

I love you.

But I love her.

I will still love you.

But she will still love me.

She is your best friend.

But I betrayed you.

She never loved me.

We are the same.

You can just love me.

Or you can just wait for me.

We can love each other.

But I still love her.

I don't deserve them.

They don't deserve you.

I messed up everything.

You can still come to me.

I can still fight for you.

But you love her now.

We still love each other.

Do we?

In this war for love, deceits and lies are inevitable. Who can withstand the pain will take the blame. Either way, I won't cry, 'hearts don't break even.'

Characters:

Oshima Yuko
Kojima Haruna
Takahashi Minami
Maeda Atsuko
Shinoda Mariko

I'm sorry, you guys. I'm really sorry.

thank you for this poll which made me realize I'm not alone in this humble ship with saku, Ashu and apple even if we only have a pair of paddles and thy great ships had cannons and machine guns...

I stand my ship and promise to protect it until I leave this fandom, thank you.

AtsuMina is maistream because it's the most real looking couple!

you don't have to apologize, TakaminaBG and we have nothing against AtsuMina, either way we're not implying AtsuYuu as a real-looking couple.

but I think mainstream doesn't suggest any pairing to be 'real-looking' but more on a factor of it, thus, mainstream label lies on the quantity of people shipping the pairing. With that said, we go back to the whole point sakura_drop_ has been blabbering about, we're outnumbered...

and don't get me wrong, I'm not starting a debate in here. just sayin' cheers!  :)

You don't need to apologize anyone, it's not our fault that our ship is mainstream. There's a reason that they're mainstream and being more real-looking is one of them. Looking at the poll, I assume quite a few Atsumina's fans fell for the offer didn't they? And what kind of a reason is that to not vote for a pairing just because they're mainstream? Pls kindly look around the fanfic section and tell me how many Atsumina's fics there are recently. Shame on us Atsumina's fans if we can't make our OTP -  who is much more popular and much more fans - win. Who cares about that offer? It's more of a shame if we don't win. This reminds me of the yearly member election in s48 where some of them went "Hey let's vote for other less popular members so we don't have to see the same people reigning at the top every year." when they don't even like those members or the rumor that's been going around for years about Acchan-antis voted for Yuko in the 2010 election so that Acchan wouldn't win. Shamelessly ridiculous of those people if it were true. Hey but at least I know if we win, we win the battle fair and square as we don't need to go around telling people to vote for our OTP because the other is mainstream or giving out some tempting offers. IF there are Atsumina's fans who haven't voted are reading this, considering your choice carefully. Don't call yourself Atsumina's fans if you think they're too mainstream and vote for other couple, enough said.

Am I understanding correctly that the couple with the most votes will be the main pair? Or is it the top 3 couples? If it's the latter then I wonder how the story will go if the current result is the final result. I'm tired at the ending-up-with-one-but-still-have-lingering-feelings-for-other scenarios. I want a clear cut relationship because  I'm irritated at some previous false advertising.

ANd I'm gonna be honest here, while I dislike Atsuyuu, I'm not irritated at them as much as their fans. IT seems to me that they're so desperate to win over ATsumina. However, I don't see them having that same passion toward Kojiyuu
Title: Re: [Louise-sama] Breakeven

You know I ain't gonna argue, because I hate arguing, so this is the last thing I'm gonna say and I'll back off.
AtsuMina is mainstream , yes, and with good damn reason. By "real-looking" I meant that, when I first saw them together, I seriously thought they were a couple, even though they are both girls. And let's say the truth. None of the couples actually exist, but for me the most couple material is AtsuMina.
And there is AtsuYuu... I've always been a frank person and I've said multiply times, I do not like AtsuYuu, and I have NEVER seen them as a couple, frankly said they look like sisters... And if AtsuMina is maistream now, I should (I won't of course, they can vote for whoever the hell they want) tell people to not vote for AtsuYuu, because it's becoming mainstream now and tell them to vote for some other couple which is not so mainstream as you say......
But please don't use the word "mainstream" to hide the fact the you just got bored ( and if you tell me you are not bored, then I would ask you to please rephrase yourself.....) from always seeing AtsuMina fics .....  If you were a fan of them once and you say they they are too "mainstream" now.... I don't even know why you were a fan in the first place.... Some people like AtsuMina, not because they are "mainstream", but bacause they believe they could be good together...
And please, don't tell people to vote for a couple you like, and don't tell them not to vote for AtsuMina, because it has gotten to "mainstream" now...
I don't expect you to understand what I'm trying to say... I have my own way of thinking, and like I said this is the last post of mine regarding this topic...
I'm sorry if I have offended someone, I just don't like the thing you are saying....

^ I just woke up and checked this poll because I voted before I went to sleep yesterday and Atsumina was leading. I didn't worry much because I knew they would win regardless. When I saw the result today I was really really surprised (Atsumina is still leading of course but not by a wide gap)but  then looking at the comments below, I got the gist and I couldn't not post something. You can be assured that as long I'm here, I'd never betray Atsumina. But like I said, if we win, I can proudly say that we won fair and square without any tactics whatsoever. ANd where the hell are you Atsumina's fans? did you get so upset about Acchan's incident that you retreated already? We managed to get them win with over 100 votes in one of the polls, why are you letting others catching up to us?

oh, you saw this thing so differently from wut I had in mind. I ship AtsuMina really hard and I din mean to offend any of you. I simply feel like AtsuYuu deserves more spotlight. If people don't like my offer, then they go and vote for AtsuMina. I will be happy either way. I simply felt like this story is more AtsuYuu material. We should stop this war thing and be more open minded. No offense and peace out

You know that that offer is really tempting for Atsumina's fans since there haven't been quite a lot of Atsumina's fics recently which make me wonder if they gave in because of that. And where is Kojiyuu's fans again? They're undeniably the other mainstream and popular couple other than Atsumina. I woulnd't mind if they win honestly.

^Yes, which was what I stated previously in my post and I agreed with TakaminaBG, I wonder if they're really Atsumina's fans to begin with. You don't say your favorite is mainstream and vote for others if you really love them ESPECIALLY  when there aren't many of their fics lying around nowadays. I'd agree with that if there ar...let's say...10 or more Atsumina's fics per day, but this is obviously  not the case.

Isn't that a win-win situation for you Tanchan?

but hey, this is just a fic, we're not that oh-so-serious like we're going to kill those people who'll vote for AtsuMina, it's just an offer pal. Still, everything lies on the fingers of those people who happened to wander in this thread  :)

Well anyway, please be mindful of your words, you won't know if you're offending other people already, and HEY it's not only between AtsuMina and AtsuYuu.  XD

But still, I couldn't shove away your frustrations seeing the current results of AtsuYuu so close to AtsuMina, since AtsuMina is considered the mother of all ships. It's quite frustrating isn't it? everyone is entitled to their own opinion and I really respect that.

Avoid judging people please.

cheers!  :)

Oh yes, thank you for recognizing that. Of course it will be a win-win situation for me. Why would I not like that? But even if Kojiyuu won doesn't mean there will be Atsumina. Who knows? The author might choose to completely ignore Atsumina and just focus on Kojiyuu with a bit of Atsuyuu. It that's the case, wouldn't it be a lose-lose situation for us?

I'm merely stating what I think? What's so offending about that? If you're referring to the "Shamelessly ridiculously"part I was referring to the elections, not the people here, unless those people come here to read.

And thank you for acknowledging my frustration too. I'm happily admitting that. NO point denying.

But you're right at the part where it's not just the war between Atsumina and Atsuyuu. Seems like now it's a tight race between Kojiyuu and Atsuyuu XD

Okay, Tanchan. They really don't like how you are expressing yourself, so you should just shut up, right?....
There is no point, because they don't want to hear you. For us they are wrong, and for them we are wrong, so.... let's just be the better people and back off...
It's a shame this thread and poll turn out like this. The author should just ignore us and go on with the story and the couples she/he wants...
If you think of yourself as a grown up, you would stop arguing and let it GO... Let's just back off and see what happens?

First of all, let's have a quick break with this ridiculous and silly argument and comment on poor writer, Louise-sama. I will admit, I have been procrastinating and busy with my life to comment, but I just had to seeing how laughable this entire matter is. (I apologize if that sounded anyway rude or offensive to anyone.) And no, I am NOT bringing back up the issue so we can fight over it but rather I'm just inputting my opinion on the matter. Doesn't hurt to throw in your thoughts when you want to. :nervous So anyway, let me apologize in regard to the rest of the members, both readers and/or writers, from up above from causing a ruckus in your thread. Guess it doesn't help when you're merely asking for what pairings your readers would highly look forward to. :sweatdrop:

So let's start off with the opening! Very interesting and though I haven't myself voted since, well, I haven't, LOL, I sense angst. As a writer who likes to revolve her stories around angst, this one caught my attention quickly. (I think the colors also helped, LOL) The little prequel truly does show the individual yearning for the attention and love of another person they had their eyes on. Oh dear... Love triangle much? :panic:

Quote
In this war for love, deceits and lies are inevitable. Who can withstand the pain will take the blame. Either way, I won't cry, 'hearts don't break even.'

I really like this quote. Somehow... it struck something inside of me. Wonder what this could mean, haha :huhuh Maybe it's because we think that 'hearts don't even break even' is more on a literal sense? But if we think about it, people do actually do of being heartbroken... Though not necessarily the heart itself being broken. :nervous Forgive me for that little ramble. :sweatdrop:

Alright, now in regard to the voting poll incident... Anou, I'm sure the author here merely wants to know what pairings everyone favors. I mean, that's a reason why there's a poll, yes? If the author really wants to write, let's say, Atsuyuu badly, then she/he will take it down and plaster that beautiful bracket/parenthesis/whatever around the pairing title 'Atsuyuu'. And of course, that could go to the same as Atsumina. If she/he wanted Atsumina, down goes the poll and up goes the pairing that leads the story (along with some others I presume).

Doesn't matter if one bribes another with voting. I mean... It's just voting, haha. If it didn't click, it's you know, a popularity contest of the pairings. Not too surprising, LOL. And I'm pretty sure someone could say/think: "Oh what the hell, I wanna vote for Atsumina anyway even if I did say I wanted Atsuyuu" :nervous Dude, if one wants Atsumina/Atsuyuu, please go over to another writer that is willing to scrawl a drabble or two about the pairings. Or... you could take it to the next level and actually write it yourself. Hey, I mean, you get to have control over the story this time and how you wanted to portray these characters. :sweatdrop: If you think about it, this is... just one fiction out of the many in the fan fiction section of the forum here. It's not much of a big deal. :sweatdrop:

So what if Atsuyuu wins? And so what if Atsumina wins? It's just a poll for the writer to set into stone what characters/pairings they want to revolve around it as. It's not like we're going to go to jail due to the less populated voted option, haha. And I'm quite sure that the author himself/herself would stick to the pairings since, you know, that's a reason why there's a poll (unless it's an opinionated polling, then that's a different matter). Now mainstream or not, everyone had their viewpoints on the situation at hand. Um, I will admit, I myself do say that Mayuki is quite mainstream alongside the more popular pairings, but it doesn't matter. I'm sure there are others who never dived into the Mayuki realm of shipment and view that the pairing is quite a rarity, thinking that Saeyuki is mainstream instead! :sweatdrop:

Writing is writing. It's just... words with our favorite characters. If you really want, I suggest you can mentally erase the names of the characters and input in the ones you desired and wa-la, you got yourself a fiction with pairings you fully want in the plot. :nervous

Not saying that both parties are wrong, but it's just a conflicting desire of which pairing should be the main lead of the story. Opinions are opinions after all. :nervous And I'm not trying to act like I know it all, but merely stating my thought bubble. We should keep this thought in mind though if there are future polls. :nervous Anyway, looking forward to this fiction, Louise-sama!

First of all, please don't make the now-healthy conversation into something which will root for further arguments. Thank you.

There is no point, because they don't want to hear you. For us they are wrong, and for them we are wrong, so.... let's just be the better people and back off...

Saying this will not make things any better either. And please don't generalize too much.  :( Please honor each other's stand as much as I respect everybody's. I voted for AtsuYuu, Yes. That doesn't mean I'm against AtsuMina ( omg not to mention the Atsumina FanVids I DLed form Youtube  XD )

It's a shame this thread and poll turn out like this. The author should just ignore us and go on with the story and the couples she/he wants...

Yes, the final decision still lies on the writer's hands. So chill out~

If you think of yourself as a grown up, you would stop arguing and let it GO...

We are not arguing. We are stating facts here and observations.

and again, please avoid judging people without any relevant proof.

cheers!  :)

/end of conversation. MOVE ON.

Looks at battlefield again.
The tanks and heavy artillery are coming out...
Watches from behind a rock.
Louise-san... I'm guessing you might not've expected this to happen.
Atsuyuu~ :D

Hell, yeah! Who would've thought I'd read a 3-page rebuttal this morning when I woke? Oh....
I feel like dying~~~!

I'm glad that the storm has calmed down than hours before.

Everyone! First of all, I'd like to apologize for the ruckus I've caused.

THANK YOU, LoyalFlutist-sama for coming to this thread! (I'm your fan...lol)

When I started the poll, I just wanted to know what the community thinks would suit the teaser best. And thank you Tanchan for making me realize what had been missing. This story, as you can see, has a very tangled relationship. You wouldn't see a pureblood pair here. I wanted this to be a rumbling hearts powerhouse. I'm really cruel, huh? So basically, the story revolves around most of the pairs in the poll. But which would have the largest votes determines how this story will end.

I want to take responsibility for this. I'm the one to blame, really. Aw...kill me now~
I respect all of you and all of your opinions as well. I'm warning you: I'm just a novice and most of you had been in this forum for who knows how long. So don't expect too much from me. I just wanted to try to write. I'm sorry if I'm not good at handling this situation. Ah~~~ I was really surprised. But thank you for living by your pairs, and coming to this topic

You and your pairs are all AWESOME! Love you all.

For those unanswered inquiries about this topic, I'll get back to you when I reach home.

Same as Ashurax, Louise-sama added the option after I had voted, otherwise I would definitely have voted for AtsuHaru though knowing they would not win :(.

@Louise: Can I ask one question? How hard would it be do you think to plan an ending based on the poll result? Sometimes when your story is going smoothly in one direction with undoubtedly logical sense, then the poll points in another direction, how would you change the plot of the story to make it happen without forcing it, especially when everything is settled down into their rightful place where if you change it, it's as good as writing a totally new story? That happens a lot with J and K dramas where they're airing the dramas and filming at the same time. At times the ending just don't click with the flow of the story. One example would be the Korean version of Kaseifu no Mita. Sometimes it strays from your original intention and results in an awkward ending while, otherwise, would have become an excellent story.

The one without any pairings.

Um...
Can I just dumbly laugh at your question? Because I don't really know, myself. Hahaha. I knew it. Just kill me now.
But I expected that to happen beforehand so I got all possibilities laid. I really have something in mind already (the flow of the story). But I don't know how to end it. Hence, the poll. It wouldn't be easy, but I think I could manage. And in this story, the real-life characters have a knit relationship among each other, so I hope it wouldn't be too awkward if the poll result shifted here and there.

Plus, I love curveballs! Don't you love 'em?

Anyway, this is a good question. I'd like to know answers from other writers as well.

She'll find a way around that.

Genius.
Will she end up the heck of a heartbreak? Kill herself? Get killed? Let go? I don't know. I hope not. But let's see how it goes.

Then that sole character can pair up with Louise-sama instead XD

MONSTER KILL! I'd love to! Lol.

I know the dust has settled but just let me put a few reminders here:

1. The poll for the pairing of your choice is right up there. Cast your votes and wait patiently for the results. Refrain from flooding the thread with posts supporting your preferred pairing or posts rallying for votes. The first chapter is not even out yet and this thread is already in its fourth page.

2. Want to show your love for your favourite pairings? Head over to the respective threads in the Kinjirareta Futari Forum (http://forum.jphip.com/index.php?board=132.0). Debating over which pairing is "better" gets no one anywhere because everyone's view is subjective.

3. Stay on topic. Feel free to ask questions relating to the story; however, if you want to make requests for fanfics of a particular pairing, do so via PM, not in the thread.

4. Respect and chill. No one likes to have a heated argument in his/her thread. This started out as a harmless poll. Why so serious? If your preferred pairing doesn't win, wait for someone else to write a fanfic about them, or even better, write your own.

We all feel strongly for our OTPs but let's keep things cordial and remember that everyone has his/her preferences :)

This is the complete teaser for a story that doesn't define fluff; just angst / hurt / comfort / drama.

==============================================
Breakeven
Louise-sama
==============================================

Five hearts...

Tangled love...

Oshima Yuko

"Everything is fair in love and war. We are in love. We were in love. And now there is only war—for love; for pride; for truth; against lies."

Kojima Haruna

"We were so in love—perhaps too much that we had enough. Seasons change; people change; feelings change. Everything has changed."

Takahashi Minami

"It wasn't intentional—it was forbidden; it was hidden. And now it sparked even; you cannot stop a love exploded."

Maeda Atsuko

"You always sweep your head, expecting. There is someone waiting. But there was always a corner that you kept avoiding—it was mine."

Shinoda Mariko

"I loved you; I still love you; I will always love you. I was always just holding back. It was hidden, even now, and from now on."

...in

Lies...

Betrayal...

Revenge...

In a war for the love of five, four hearts revive but a heart will not survive.
They will be full and she will remain a fool.
But no one can deny, that hearts never...

Breakeven

======================================
Prologue will be out...SOON. I promise.
Now, if someone could do a poster for their picks...
======================================

Thank you for voting!

Pairings to expect (poll winners):
AtsuYuu
KojiYuu
AtsuMina
MariHaru
TakaHaru

Final pairing: I guess you already know.

PROLOGUE

     It's midnight.

     It's already midnight.

But she's not yet home, again.

She collapsed her back on their soft couch, not bothering to open any single lamp. She released a loud sigh hoping to vent out her stress. Who was she kidding? That's not even possible. Saying that she's stressed is an understatement; exhausted even. Her tumultuous mind is beyond salvation. She shut her eyes tight, struggling for peace in her restless mind.

She already accepted the fact that she didn't love her and she will never love her back.

She will always love this woman; I should have known better from the start.

She chuckled darkly. She felt like she was being drowned in an endless pit; acid seeping through her eyes, burning it 'til it bleeds; large boulders crushing her chest; dull swords slowly thrusted to her very core; nails crunching her tight throat. It hurts that much. But she has to bear it—she would bear it without complain, just to be with her. Because she loved her that much.

"What a stupid martyr you are, Yuko." she told herself.

.....

.....

"You should be home right now," said a gentle voice of a woman lying beside her. She was gently twirling and stroking her long, soft locks as she lay parallel to her on the bed. "I'm sure she's waiting for you."

She never moved and kept her eyes leveled on the white ceiling. "I know that."

The woman stopped stroking and turned her head to inhale a lungful of her soft hair. "You said you know that, yet you're still here."

"I don't want to go home." she replied motionless, as she allowed the other to cuddle closer.

     "But why?"

A few seconds passed, she closed her eyes and buried her face onto the woman's neck. "I don't know how to face her anymore."

"But she is your fiancée." the woman said, fingers running up and down her creamy arms.

     "...I know."

     "Does she know about us?"

She lifter her head and met the woman's soft eyes. "I love you."

Their eyes lingered as if having a conversation of their own. It took a few seconds before she responded. "I love you too, Haruna."

Haruna smiled softly and leaned in for a kiss.

I'm sorry, Yuko. But I love your best friend. I love Minami.

.....

.....

Light, cautious footsteps; metal keys clicking against each other; then, the door was slowly creaking open, allowing turbulent wind gusts to enter the living room briefly, swaying the still chimes. Those were the sounds of a sinful marching. No matter how stealthy they were done, Yuko woke up unfailingly—it seems that her nightmare had finally decided to haunt her again. The door was now fully open and slowly revealed a silhouette of a woman whom she knew so well.

     "Welcome home, Haruna."

She flicked the lights open and Haruna immediately stopped her cautious walking and remained frozen like a human statue. There was no sign of surprise between the two parties anymore. Just an awkward long silence and eyes constantly repelling to meet.

     "You got home earlier."

Haruna ducked her head. "It's near dawn, actually."

"At least earlier than sunrise—earlier than your usual arrival."

It was supposed to be a sarcastic statement, but it didn't sound like one. It sounded like it had been rehearsed in a constant rerun—it had; they undergo this same scenario every night—but tonight, it didn't seem forced. The longer the silence had passed, the harder it was for their eyes to communicate.

Tired of their mental distance, Yuko stood up from the couch and walked towards her and wore a soft smile. "How was your work?"

Yuko knows where she came from and what she possibly did. She can see it. And Haruna can't hide it—the small hickey on the right part of her neck, nor the sinful smell of her best friend's perfume.

"...I'm sorry," was all Haruna said.

     "Sorry for what?"

     "...For everything."

Yuko's smile slowly bended downwards. "Come here..." she pulled Haruna and embraced her tightly, just like she always does; and as always, it makes Haruna feel guilty. “There's no need to be sorry, Haruna. I understand. I know that you're busy."

     "Yuko..."

     I don't deserve you...

"Are you crying?" Yuko asked as she felt her shoulder shake and heard her sob. She rubbed her palms across her back, trying to still her guilty whimpers. As much as she wanted to let Haruna have it, she never wanted to hear her broken sobs—the fact that she rarely cries.

"Why, Yuko? Why? Why are you so good to me...?”

"...Because I love you," she whispered with all sincerity.

     "Yuko, I—"

"You know what—you're just tired. Let's just sleep, shall we?"

She can tell her lies but she can always see beyond those lies.

This is the damned fact; that the only woman she loves is still in love with her best friend.

.....

.....

Yuko and Haruna's parents were close friends. They see each other every time the Kojima family visits the Oshima household. While they were kids, they  were forced to get along with each other, despite their differences and bad terms with each other. As active as Yuko can be, she was always the one who initiated their conversations and Haruna would keep on saying that she hates loud people, yet she never pushed Yuko away. Yuko would just laugh and say that she finds Haruna cute, and Haruna would call her 'baka' and walk away. But it was only in high school that they became really close.

They went to movies; watched theater performances of idol groups; went shopping together—Oh, Haruna loved shopping. She would always drag Yuko into shopping districts and make her carry her things. Yuko would whine like a baby but Haruna wouldn't careless, trying on every single dress and shoes that she finds nice. You can just imagine how Yuko would make-face behind Haruna's back. After Haruna was finished with her shopping, she would personally pick and buy clothes for Yuko, and the squirrel would shower her with kisses, meeting without any resistance from the tall girl. It was until then, when Yuko fell in love with her.

On their sophomore year, Minami, Yuko's best friend from junior high school, transferred to their school. Yuko introduced her to Haruna and she started to have great interest in her. Slowly, Minami joined their circle of friends, earning Yuko lesser attention from Haruna. She no longer invited her to movie dates or shopping, but invited Minami instead. She rarely went to Yuko's house too unlike before.

Yuko was kept in the background, leaving her with the sight of Minami, cracking jokes, and Haruna, teary-eyed from laughing. She knew back then, that the two had seen each other more than friends. But when Yuko confronted Minami about it, she denied it with a promise. She believed her, and until their high school graduation, she kept a small hope in her heart.

But then, Minami went overseas for college, leaving Haruna broken. Yuko sought this chance to step out from the distant zone and comforted Haruna, assuring her that she'll never leave her and will always be there for her. Their friendship grew stronger until it came to the point that Yuko could not hold back her feelings any longer. On the last night of summer that year, she made a gamble and confessed to Haruna. To her relief, Haruna accepted her love.

Their families were so happy, expressing full support on their relationship. But even if they finally became a couple, Yuko was still unconvinced with Haruna's feelings for her. Two years after, she made a life-long decision, and proposed to Haruna. She was already preparing for the worst, knowing that Haruna was still expecting Minami, but when she opened her eyes, she was met with Haruna's radiant smile. Haruna extended her thumb and softly brushed Yuko's parted lips. "Please take care of me from now on," she said. Yuko slipped the ring on her fingers, almost crying in happiness. Their time had just begun. She made sure to shower her with kindness and care, making sure to satisfy her partner with all the love she needs. Their relationship's walls had been built with love; unstained; unyielding; unbreaking. Until the day...

Two years after, Minami had returned.

.....

.....

     "What's your problem?"

     "...Nothing."

"Liar~" Mariko sang as she flipped a page of her book. "Just look at your hurtful face, will ya?"

Yuko half-turned her face from the tall window of her office. "How did you know? You're not even looking at me."

"I can tell just by your silence that something's wrong."

Yuko was caught in surprise and returned her gaze at the window. "...You're scary."

"We've been friends for fifteen long years. Of course, you should be scared," said Mariko as she stole a glance at her friend in front of the window who was looking sadly outside, fingers barely touching the glass. She sighed and closed her book. "Okay, spill it. What's wrong this time?"

"...I think Haruna is having an affair."

Mariko stared at her, pulling out a lollipop in the process and flicked her tongue over it. "Mm...Let me guess—with your rabbit?"

"Curse you, Mariko! I'm trying to be serious here."

"I am serious. What are you getting so worked up? You're getting jealous over your own rabbi—"

"She's having an affair with Minami!" Yuko yelled loud enough to silence Mariko and drop her lollipop on the carpeted floor. "Satisfied? Not with my rabbit." she continued calmly. "...Not with my rabbit."

"Oh," Mariko dumbly replied. She was surprised how Yuko easily snapped at her foolish response. But she didn't miss how unusually dull Yuko's features were. No one would want to see that. Not even a prankster like her. She pulled out another lollipop and stuck it on one side of her mouth.

"That's what I warned you about being sexually inactive."

"One more, Mariko. Just one more or you won't see the sunrise again!"

"Ok, ok. Geez," Mariko chuckled and surrendered her hands in the air. "Why do you have to be so hot tempered?"

Yuko sighed and slumped herself on the nearby chair. She ran her fingers through her hair, almost pulling out roots in frustration. "I don't even know what to do anymore..." she groaned.

Mariko opened her book once more and mindlessly scanned through the pages. "You know what to do, Yuko. You're just afraid. Just follow them to make sure."

     "I can't do that."

     "Why not?"

"If I saw them, I'm afraid I might kill them."

"Yuko!" yelled Mariko as she hurled a throw pillow towards Yuko which she perfectly avoided.

"I'm just kidding. Of course I won't do it!"

"You better not, 'cause I'll be the one to kill you if that happens."

Both of them paused, trying to process what had been resonating against the large office's walls. As soon as she finally realized, Yuko swept her eyes to one corner, glaring at Mariko.

"I mean...I don't want you imprisoned for murder," defended Mariko as she nervously laughed.

Yuko shrugged and stared blankly on the floor for a few seconds.

"You know how much I love her."

Mariko paused silent and nodded. "...I know, Yuko. Everybody knows."

"Sometimes, I can't help but wonder if she knows that."

     "...Sometimes, knowing is not enough."

Yuko glanced at her. "Funny. You seem to know everything but you don't even have a girlfriend," she laughed weakly on her own. Noticing that Mariko was not looking all pleased with her words, her laughter died. "Sorry. I didn't mean that in a bad way."

Mariko rolled her eyes. "Let's not talk about it, shall we?"

Yuko nodded and stared at her feet. Then suddenly, her thought bubble popped and her eyes grew wide. "By the way, our fourth anniversary is coming up. What should I do? You've got to help me!"

Mariko remained silent for a few seconds as she flipped pages from the book. "Why does it have to be me? It's not like I'm going to benefit from it."

"Oh, c'mon! I need your brilliant ideas. And besides, you're my butler!"

"Then it's clear that helping you isn't my job anymore," she groaned.

"You just told me that we're friends! What kind of friend are you, really?" yelled Yuko as she constantly threw pens at Mariko.

"Hey! That's dangerous." Mariko raised her book in defense. "FINE! You spoiled brat," she snapped and threw her book to the other end of the couch.

     "Awesome! How should we start?"

"We'd come to that. But first..." Mariko stood up and circled around the table between them, approaching Yuko, and clutched both sides of her chair. She leaned down so their ears are parallel to each other. "...We have to do something about your sexual inactivity," she whispered.

Yuko nervously chuckled. "You're not being serious, are you? H-hey! What are you doing?! Mariko!!!!"

.....

.....

Today is the day. I'm going to claim everything that should be mine.

"Hey Yuko—!" waved Sae while carrying a bag of chips. "Want some?"

"Sorry Sae, I'm in a hurry!" shouted Yuko as she ran past Sae and Sayaka.

"What's up with her? She never passed me by when I'm carrying chips."

     Sayaka shrugged. "Who knows?"

.....

.....

Yuko reached the ground floor and ran outside the company's building, bumping with her employees and some jars. Still trying to catch her breath, she spotted a flashy Jaguar F-Type on the street. "Sweet. Wait for me Haruna," she smiled and ran for the car. Mariko opened the passenger's door for her and welcomed her with a bottle of water.

     "Thanks," Yuko puffed.

"I had prepared the yacht for you. You can go there for dinner."

"Great. Will her favorite dish be served?"

     "Affirmative."

"I hope nothing could go wrong."

     "Flowers?" Mariko asked.

     "Got it."

     "Movie pass?"

     "Ready."

     "Perfume?"

     "Check."

     "...and your breath?"

Yuko raised a brow in confusion. "What?"

"Please check it. I'm not so confident about it."

     "Mariko!"

Mariko chuckled and hit the acceleration pedal. "Let's rock!"

.....

.....

They reached the building of Haruna's workplace and Mariko drifted, stopping right where the entrance was in one quick motion. "Wish me luck!" Yuko picked up the flowers and Mariko kicked her out of the car.

     "Go get your girl, squirrel!"

     Go get my girl...

.....

.....

"South wing, third floor, second room."

     "Ah, here it is."

Smiling while carrying a bouquet of roses, Yuko slowly approached the room Mariko had told her.

"I didn't know you were coming today."

She heard Haruna from the other side. Yuko was surprised, thinking that Haruna had been expecting her to come. Satisfied enough, she slowly reached for the door knob until...

"I had a feeling that you needed to see me today."

Another voice from inside the room echoed, immediately sucking all of Yuko's spirits. That familiar voice. There was no doubt about it. Slowly, she lost her grip on the bouquet, causing it to drop heavily against the tiled floor, petals scattered violently.

     "Minami..." she mouthed, breathless.

She pulled her hand back and pushed herself against the door. Her own breath was hitching as she sank her ears deeper and deeper, as if trying to fit her ears with the door if that was possible. Later, she heard soft moans emanating from the room, making her suck a quick breath in shock. There was no mistake—that on the other side of the door, was the only woman whom she gave her love, tangled with the woman she gave her full trust.

     "Minami...I love you..."

     "...Only me, Haruna?"

     "Yes, only you..."

She pushed her forehead deeper until her knees failed to support her. Turning her body around, she slid her back against the hard door, surrendering all her weight, until she collapsed helplessly on the floor. Her breathing was shallow and uneven, and heart, erratic in frustration.

"Dammit..." she gritted her teeth, hot tears streamed down her cheeks. Shit! She wanted to scream but no voice came out of her.

     "Curse you both..."

After a seemingly eternal agony for Yuko, the sinful sound finally subsided. "I'll make you pay for this..." Gathering all strength from her boiled up anger, she stood up and violently kicked the bouquet of roses on the floor. "Happy fourth anniversary to me..." she sang bitterly to herself and strode away.
