Chapter 3
“Sayaka, stop moving will you --- Ugh! My hand.”
“Just be fast, we’ve been here in the dressing room for a long time. People may get angry.” Sayaka said as she tried to maintain her posture. Like what she said, she and Sae has been on the dressing room for a long time now trying to figure out how to lock the back part of the wedding gown Sayaka’s currently trying.
“If you haven’t been moving all along then this would have been fast.” Sae commented. Sae finally saw the zipper hanging on the back – which she thought was by button, and carefully zipped the hell out of Sayaka’s gown.
“It’s not my fault that this gown sucks. I mean, it’s all itchy and hot.”
“I think it’s not laundry-washed yet. Let me have a look~”
Sayaka then turned to Sae making the other girl in stare in awe. The gown Sayaka is wearing is simple unlike the other wedding gowns Sae saw in the shop when they entered. But its simplicity was overcome by Sayaka’s beauty. If other people wore this gown, it won’t have the same effect, Sae thought.
Sae unconsciously stared at Sayaka for seconds which Sayaka noticed.
“I know I’m absolutely stunning Sae.” Sayaka joked.
“H-huh? What? Sorry to disappoint you but I’m thinking about something else.” Sae lied making Sayaka pout. “Just kidding! You have really grown into a fine woman Sayaka-chan.” Sae patted Sayaka’s head imitating Sayaka’s grandma who always say that line to Sayaka whenever the two of them meets. It’s not a lie though.
“Thanks grandma.” Sayaka said in a sarcastic voice. She’s about to take the gown off but she remembered something. “Ah! Sae, why don’t you try a gown too?”
“What?”
“Try a gown? Please?” Sayaka pleaded, Sae raised an eyebrow. “For my wedding? That is, if you don’t have a gown still.”
“As much as I want to, I’m just a poor old painter who doesn’t have any children that supports me, or a rich husband that is.”
“Just try it! Who knows, I might buy it for you.”
“Well that’s something new, tell me are you Yuko in disguise?” Sae joked. Sayaka rarely treated her in anything since she’s like a mother who’s in tight budget even if her pocket have loads of it, on the other hand, Yuko is the one who always treat them – To clubs and bars that is.
Sayaka placed her hands on her waist waiting for Sae’s answer.
“Okay then…”
“Yes!” Sayaka squealed in joy as she hugged her best friend.
After their conversation, Sayaka pulled Sae to the part of the stop where the wedding gowns are showed.
Sayaka picked a handful of different gowns for her bestfriend, making the shop’s clerk exhausted. Too bad she can’t complain since she knows that the two are clients who will pay later.
Afterwards, she pushed Sae into the dressing area and told her to fit every damn gown they chose. Then, Sayaka sat at the couch infront of the dressing are door to have a good view of Sae once the other girl steps out.
After some minutes, Sae walks out of the door, modeling the gown she’s wearing.
Sayaka shook her head in response.
Sae again went back to the room to try the other gown, and when she came back again Sayaka gave the same response.
This happened continuously, making the gowns on the shop run-out. The two of them became exhausted with what they’re doing. It has been half an hour of non-stop wearing gowns after all.
Sae changed back to her normal clothes and sat besides Sayaka, giving a tired sigh.
Sayaka looked at her bestfriend. Sae has a good body and her face is quite cute and the gowns she wore look good on her but something is just wrong. Not that Sae is not meant for gowns and should wear tuxedo instead. Sayaka giggled at herself.
“What?” Sae asked.
“Nothing,” Sayaka answered. “Have you chosen anything yet?”
“You kept shaking your head, so I thought it’s a no.”
“Ah!” Sayaka said as if a light bulb flashed beside her head for cinematic purposes. “Last try Sae-chan ~ pleaseeee.”
“I’m beginning to regret coming here with you,” Sae joked, “Where is it?”
Sayaka called the clerk who has been following them around before and is now gone. Then, she ordered the clerk the same gown she’s wearing but without the long tail at the back.
The clerk came back with a gown which looked familiar to Sae.
“If you need help just tell me!” Sayaka pushed her in the dressing room and sat on the couch again.
As Sayaka expected, she heard Sae’s s.o.s. Sayaka entered the dressing room and saw Sae trying to reach the back part of the gown she’s wearing which is impossible to accomplish.
“Oh god. Let me help.” Sayaka said as she went closer to Sae. She searched for the buttons and saw none.
“Look for a zipper maybe?” Sae said who seemed to be tensed up. If it’s because of the room’s heat or the gown she’s wearing she doesn’t know.
“Mmm.. Where is it~” Sayaka hummed. She placed her left hand on Sae’s shoulders as she tilted her head downwards to look for the zipper Sae is saying which may or may not exist.
The room became hotter but it’s only Sae could feel it.
“Stop moving Sae!” Sayaka complained.
“Okay, okay, just be fast.” Sae said, imitating unconsciously what Sayaka told her a while ago.
“Yeah right.” Sayaka mumbled. “And it’s done! Yey!”
The two of them went out of the dressing room sweating badly. The air outside the dressing room is cooler in which the two of them are thankful for.
“Hwaa! You look great on that Sae-chan!” Sayaka said, teasing her bestfriend. “You have grown into a fine young woman.”
Sae just stick a tongue out on Sayaka. Then she noticed that Sayaka is still wearing her wedding gown.
“Let’s take a picture together?” Sae suggested unconsciously. Sayaka’s face became surprised since she knows that Sae is never for cameras. Her bestfriend is after all a painter, and a painter like her doesn’t like taking pictures using cameras, they preferred taking pictures using their hands.
“Sure,” Sayaka smiled as she took out her camera-phone. Sae then took hers too.
1…2…3…
They shot two pictures together with their gowns, one having peace signs while the other a failed one in which the two of them are not looking at the phone - coincidentally.
“The gown itches,” Sayaka commented,
“Yeah, I have been wondering how you survived watching me try gowns while wearing that one.”
“I have been wondering about that too.”
Then, the two of them changed back to their original clothes. And call the shop’s clerk. Sayaka’s gown was wrapped while Sae’s will need some adjustments to make sure that the fitting is correct, to be delivered in Sae’s house directly next time.
Then, the two decided to go back to the café where they had a chat earlier with Yuko to freshen themselves. They were laughing to each other while talking about the failed picture they shot.
“Well, now that you have a gown. It’s only Yuko who’s the problem.” Sayaka said,
“Yeah. You wouldn’t want her to go in a bathing suit at your wedding, would you?” Sae joked. Well, it’s half true anyway. Yuko does what Yuko wants, except if people plead on her… or if her best friends scold her.
“Un, Must be scheduled quickly. But she’s quite busy and all about her exhibit.”
“She’ll have time, for sure.”
“Like how you did?” Sayaka teased.
“Hey!!! I’m just busy these past few days… You know, I too will have an exhibit next year.” Sae mumbled,
“REALLY?!”
“Don’t shout silly!”
“But it’s cool – not shouting, but exhibit! Wow! Your paintings are damn good you know.”
“Stop tricking me Akimoto, I’m not a kid.” Sae said, earning a pout from Sayaka. “You haven’t even seen one, have you?”
“Well…” Sayaka said placing her two index finger together.
“Just kidding,” Sae said, “but seriously? You saw one already don’t worry.”
“Oh…” Sayaka said apologetically. Unlike Yuko and Sae who have a thing for painting – okay not Yuko, since Yuko quitted it already, She doesn’t have a single love for it or maybe a little because of her friends. But she can’t really appreciate them 100%.
“Don’t worry, you have a wedding exhibit.” Sae teased.
“W-what?” Sayaka asked.
“Wedding? Well, don’t tell me you forgot that you’ll be getting married.”
“Of course I didn’t!”
“If you say so…” Sae said, taking a sip from her coffee. “Are you sure about this?”
“Sure of what?” Sayaka asked,
“This, I mean… wedding?”
“What are you talking about Sae? Of course I am. I have never been surer on anything in my life.” Sayaka said defendingly.
Sae raised an eyebrow at Sayaka, “The last time you told me that is when you wanted to climb a tree when we were children… And you fell, remember?”
“I’m an adult already, not the same child who wanted to climb a tree then feel?” Sayaka said rolling her eyes, “The tree wasn’t high… Besides, you saved me from the fall anyway.”
“Whateve –“
“Sayaka-chan, Miyazawa-san!” A familiar voice said making Sayaka smile which Sae noticed greatly.
“Hiro-chan,” Sayaka said, hugging the man infront of her.
“Nakai-san.” Sae bowed as a sign of respect.
“Sorry for not being able to come,” Nakai said, taking a sit beside Sayaka. “The company was a mess earlier; I had to sort things out.”
“Daijoubu. Sae-chan here accompanied me,” Sayaka said, smiling at Sae who smiled back too.
“Ahh, arigato gozaimasu. Speaking of which, have Miyazawa-san here picked a gown for our wedding?” Nakai asked politely in which Sayaka nodded, “I wanted Sayaka-chan’s friends to be prepared for our wedding; it is an important day to Sayaka after all.”
“Yeah…” Sae said smiling.
“He’s actually the one who thought of buying you and Yuko dresses,” Sayaka said intertwining her hands with Nakai’s.
“Really? Thank you very much Nakai-san, Sayaka is really lucky to have you.”
“Stop with the compliment, and there’s no need to be formal, Sayaka treats you like a family so I would too.”
“N-Nakai-kun then? You can call me Sae.” Sae said smiling.Truly, Sayaka’s honeybunch is a good guy and Sayaka is really lucky to have someone like him but why is she not happy-happy for Sayaka at all?
Sayaka smiled at Sae then at Nakai, this day is a good day for her. Two of the most important persons in her life met and is going along pretty well.
“Ah. Sayaka, Nakai-kun I guess you two needs sometime for each other huh?” Sae grinned as she stood from her seat. Her guilt is killing her, and being around this goody-good guy would aim for the kill soon. “I think I have to go~”
“Are you sure?” Nakai asked,
“Yeah, nice meeting you Nakai-kun. See you again, Sayaka, jaa~”
Sae started walking with many thoughts on her head. She reached her house without knowing it. She immediately went to her workshop and sat in front the painting she’s currently working. She grabbed the brush and paint she’ll be using. Through painting, the things in her mind will vanish… or so she thinks.
“Are you sure of it?”
“I have never been surer on anything in my life.” Sayaka said as she placed her hands on her hips. Yuko, Sae and Sayaka are currently having a picnic in the shade of the tree when a random thought came into Sayaka’s mind, saying that she wants to climb the tree.
“But you’re only 10 and you haven’t gone through many things yet,” Sae reasoned out.
“You’re not really a gorilla, are you Saya-chan?” Yuko said as she putted down the pen and paper she’s holding.
“But it will be fun! You can draw me while I’m up there Yuko.”
Without saying a word Sayaka started to climb the tree, Yuko was cheering her while Sae is looking at her, not knowing if she should cheer her on or ready herself to catch Sayaka once she falls. Then, Sayaka fell. Sae who was ready-ing herself managed to catch Sayaka, but due to the gravity and Sayaka’s weight, Sayaka’s body pushed Sae to the ground.
Sae saved Sayaka.
Sayaka wasn’t hurt.
Sae was.
Sae stroked the paint brush she’s holding carefully with Sayaka on her mind.
The tree incident may happen again in which Sae would sacrifice herself again for Sayaka’s good.
