To be honest, I find the new gen of FF sub par to the last. New gen being FFVII and up and old being FFVI and down.

FFX is my fav. also love FFVII and FFVIII.  FFIX suck.  Don't know about FFXII since I have not gotten to play it much.

To be fair, FFIX is probably my least favourite too. The game itself was solid, but I think the story and characters didn't interest me as much as other FF's .The only FF game that I've played which is worse in this aspect of the game is FF Tactics Advance

I don't think you can really expect much in terms of story and characters on an mmo

FFIX, not FFXI :D

Argh, I'm stuck trying to get this Esper on FFXII. It's in the Garamscythe (sp?) Waterway whenever you open up the sluice gates in certain orders and drains the water to a certain area. Don't know the Esper's name but it's big, green and fat :s Anyway, it casts 'Sap' as soon as you start the fight and combined with it's strength and lesser enemies joining the fight, it's almost near impossible! I think I may need to level up more though, my party is around lvl 32-33.

The Waterway Esper? You should probably be closer to level 40, as that Esper can be tough... also remember you should have curaga before you go in there (if memory serves curaga in 12 heals a lot to one person) make sure you put one person far out of the way with nothing set to have them attack, manually guide them far enough to keep them from getting attacked while close enough to heal. Then wham on everything with your other two. Using decoy might be helpful that way you are curing only one person and quickening only if you are confident you can finish it off. There was more advice but thats what I can remember right now.

Well..I didn't like Steiner and I didn't like Zidane much either. But the characters in Final Fantasy IX were much cooler than the ones in XII. :k-mad:
Every Final Fantasy has had characters I don't like. I didn't like Barret in VII(I'm not being racist...I just don't want a Mr. T character in my Final Fantasy games...they could have done a much better job creating a black character. Kiros from VIII was MUCH cooler), I didn't like Selpie or Quistis or Zell in VIII and I didn't like Wakka or Kimahri in X.

Well 9 was my favorite because it went back to basics. I mean its not cool if all your characters can do the same freaking move VII, VIII, X. I have yet to play XII, so I don't judge what has not been tested. Having certain job classes makes the game more difficult because you have to strategize more to be most efficient, instead of using Knights of the Realm w/Quadriple Magic and then Mimic in VII.

Thanks for the advice invisname! I'll just take some hunts to pass time and grind around Salikawood.

Well kamino, it's sad to say that with XII, characters can have the same abilities, magic etc. But I tend to specialise characters rather than have an all-rounder party. Vaan's the thief, Penelo's the black mage, Ashe is the healer etc. One summon monster can only be assigned to one person, so that distinguishes your character somewhat as well.

FFVII all the way, of course it's the obvious choice, and it's riddled with plot holes and what not but that's what makes it so good. I still like games in the series like VIII but it didn't exactly try and break any boundries with story did it? There was no trippy weirdness like in VII and the fact that you still didn't really have a clue what was going on after you finished the game didn't seem to matter. Worst in the series being FFIX, other than Amarant and Kuja none of the characters appealed to me whatsoever, it's sad to think it's the most popular one. For me characters were just way to cliche'd and yes the stroyline was trying to go back to traditional RPG roots but this just it made it feel like you'd played it 1000 times before.

lol IX  :depressed:

I actually liked the story, but yeah the characters weren't really ones you really fall in love with or anything. Other than that I thought it was pretty good.

It's good to know that Tetsuya Nomura is involved in Final Fantasy Dissidia. I've always liked his artworks and the games he directed.  :)

I'm currently quite an active player of FFXI on the Diabolos server.  My favourite job being my 67 Beastmaster, although, I do have a 75 White Mage.
