Wanted to know what the bonus was to FFXIII owners looking to play XIII-2? Turns out it's..a cutscene. More specifically, a summary of what happened in FFXIII voiced by different characters. Hmm, was more hoping for a weapon or a costume instead XD Some other details here:

Quote
Impress Watch also explains how the equipment system works. Each character has four different slots to equip items and a maximum load they can carry. You can split these points up any way you like for defensive gear or stat boosting accessories, but can’t exceed the limit. Monsters have decorative items that change how they look in battle. Players can by weapons, armor, items, and monster training goods from Chocolina, a merchant who has the ability to travel through time too. Monsters can grow by purchasing items. Noel and Serah use the Crystarium system, but there is only one path. Players decide which roles to upgrade as they move along the grid.

Impress Watch also commented on the differences between the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions. In their opinion, there is almost no difference and 90% of the scenes use real time rendering instead of pre-rendered video. Final Fantasy XIII-2 comes out on December 15 in Japan and January 31, 2012 in North America.

Really loved FFXII when it came out. I so desperately wanted the story to be better but the latter half wasn't especially compelling. And considering how many side missions/quests you can go on it's easy to lose a grasp on the story. Still, I think it's one of the best playing FF games and one of the best looking games for the PS2. Also I just love the world of Ivalice and the faux-Shakespearean dialogue.

A bunch of new FFXIII-2 info here.

In an official link here, SE and Ubisoft have reached a deal to release a downloadable costume for Noel in FFXIII-2, dressed up as Ezio from Assassin's Creed. No official screenshot, but there is official concept art on how it will look.

In wake of this FF13-2 news, I started playing FF13. I knew it was gonna be linear but holy hell, I wasn't quite ready for how much. I appreciate the concentration but I want a bit more flexibility. But the crystarium and the weapon upgrading has me hooked.
I vote for TOZ as the most gangsta~  :otomerika:

I played a bit more of Duodecim recently, trying to unlock Desperate Chaos as the playable character. I thought I was going to do it too when I had to fight it. At Lvl 90. And he had 50000 health   :bleed eyes: Did it in the end though! But that wasn't the end :o Guess I have a few more dungeons to clear before I get it.  :shocked

Those thinking about which version of XIII-2 to buy should know that the 360 has a bit of exclusive DLC. Which is....a bow.

Quote
This weapon is named after an angel who represents spirits and death. It is believed to possess the power to change the owner's destiny, and your Chain Bonus is upgraded when equipped. Serah alone has the ability to wield this legendary weapon. The player can obtain this weapon from Chocolina merchants, from Episode 2 onwards in the main game for 80 Microsoft Points via Xbox Live Marketplace for Xbox 360. Only Serah has the ability to wield this legendary weapon. The downloadable content launches on 7th February 2012 - four days after the release of the game - and costs 80 MS Points.

Yeh I doubt this is going to sway people over which version to get after all

Well who's played the demo?! I have, and it's awesome! So good in fact, I didn't play all of it. That sounds like a bad thing but I can assure you it's not. There's a lot of game in that demo. So much so, that it has a save file for your progress. It starts off with a boss battle, familiar stuff if you've played XIII before, with the exception of the QTE sequences. But immediately afterwards you're left in an open environment to explore. Plenty of NPC's with stuff to say and there's occassionally dialogue between the NPC's and Serah/Noel which is nice. There are treasures to find, shops to purchase from (Chocolina will be the XIII-2 pin up, cosplay icon for sure! XD). Then you can immediately go from the 'safe' section into the dungeon, where you can fight monsters and see how recruiting them works. Seems like there's some smart additions to the paradigm management (you can save paradigm setups, thank God!), collecting monsters seems cool, it's harder to get 5 stars after each battle and did I mention the demo is loooong? Graphics are as good as you expect and the soundtrack seems different this time. More of an electronica vibe to it like a Shin Megami Tensei game, but I like it.

Nothing really bad to speak of at this point in time. I'm still unsure how the Crystalarium works in this one. It seems like it's not split into roles but rather as you go from node to node, you choose which role to upgrade. Could be cool, seems like you have to make the hard choice on specialising certain roles in favour of others? Will need to read up more about it.

Oh and the moogle. In addressing the complaint that there were no moogles in XIII, I think they may have already given us too much this time! Voice can be a little annoying right now, but Mog does have his/her uses I'll admit. Watch how everyone in the environment freaks out when you press the RB button for your Moogle to find treasure!

So very pleased with the demo, would happily recommend that if you felt burned by XIII, then give this demo a try out just to see if the changes appeal to you more. I can't wait now until Feb! :w00t:

Very strange review by IGN for XIII-2. The reviewer loved it, couldn't heap more praise onto it saying it's an outright better game than XIII, the things he didn't like was that the story wasn't to his liking and because of the structure of the game it's hard to follow or to care. That aside, he gave the game an 8.0. The same reviewer gave XIII an 8.9. So if it's a better game then why isn't it reflected in the score? Weird, but oh well, the game sounds promising!
