It's tricky cause after all their good songs and especially ones like Chocolate Love, when one like this comes out you don't really want to say it sucks because oh everything SNSD is awesome! But unfortunately I think it sucks and it's hard for me to listen to all the way through lol.

BUT I STILL LOVE THE GIRLS!

Jesus. . that cover looks cheap. And they look tired as hell, like they are about to fall asleep on the spot. XD

Songs. . eh. Some annoyances and a couple good parts but kind of boring overall. The come come come love core stuff makes it sound suggestive as hell though. :P

I haven't really liked any of dj Jinu's stuff, just don't flow well for me. Abracadaba kinda worked only because someone else did the chorus and co-composed it. He can do some interesting stuff but it's obvious he struggles with composing a good melody and making solid vocal arrangements. Thus they should just stick to Kenzie to do CF songs, Way To Go and hahaha and Chocolate Love are soooooo good. :D

Dude, are you kidding me? Visual Dreams is a really good piece, you just can't look at it the way you consider most of SNSD's discography. It's like Nu ABO and Lucifer, you have to consider them more as electronic music than as a pop song. The vocals are playing second fiddle to the entirety, where usually the vocals come first. Here they're just another sound to layer in. And it's all about the rhythm. The melody isn't meant to be driving the song because that's not how electronic music works. It's all about patterns.
I'll admit that at first it's kind of bland, but in a pleasant way that doesn't make me want to skip the song like a lot of SNSD's bubblegum does. I have some pretty heavy remixes of Hoot and they still bore me to death. Hitchhiker's also constantly changing the arrangement on parts that are repeats of melody from before, which is already more than most songs already do, even the good ones.  But the real magic starts when you hit the interlude. Suddenly we get BREAKBEATS HELLZ YEAH before reiterating the chorus again...but with two new different counterpoint layers mixing and building things up to a final variation on the chorus with still a slightly heavier arrangement to keep things groovy. It's like how AKIRA put down a syncopation rhythm in the arrangement for the chorus after the interlude of C\C, but the vocals drowned that out so most people never notice. But that was with Tsunku writing melody-first as he always does, and here Hitchhiker purposely wrote a simple vocal line so that the changes in arrangement have significant influence in the progression of the piece.

Visual Dreams is a better piece of music than Showx3, although I can certainly enjoy Showx3 more in some respects, such as its badass heaviness and that brass interlude.(with dynamic key change!) But Visual Dreams doesn't have a shitty engrish monologue followed by a chorus identical in arrangement to the two that came before it.  :twothumbs

Kenzie is good as long as he/she doesn't try for electro-pop. Boyfriend and Destiny are rather awkward.

But yeah, the lyrics are so bad.

The song sounds kinda "kiddy" type to me dont know why. I'm sure i will listen to it many times but thats just after hearing it one time.
Agree on the poster pic that everyone looks tired. Sunny even has the "damn why did i get dragged into this shoot" look.

Rayle were you the one that really liked Wake Up? That song is haunting and has an absolutely nasty beat. That's one Jinu song I love.

I agree Kenzie's best songs are the rockish/arena pop but from the looks of it her electo stuff is pretty good too. I actually really like Destiny but wasn't it one that was outsourced from sweedish composers? and I think Kenzie did Girlfriend not Boyfriend (not her best but I like it since I'm a sucker for that nice fairy tale stuff). Oh was probably her first electronic style song (or maybe la cha ta or Mr. boogie?) and it kinda shocked me how much I immediately liked it after not feeling the preview at all. It did kinda stunk for lives which is usually a strength of her stuff.

I'm actually a big fan of electronica/chip tunes/ambient and what not but for whatever reason I tend to rarely like the it in Kpop. Especially the SM/Yoo Young-jin stuff. I'm glad a lot of others like it, just too much superfluousness for me. Dj Jinu on the other hand almost is too bare bones or something. They are both messy. I usually listen to more instrumental so maybe that's why I feel that way. T-ara does it best imo, they have a couple amazing ones (One & One, I'm Really Hurt) 4minute does ok too but I think I'm just smitten with Jiyoon more than the songs.

I definitely love the interlude->end in Visual Dreams like you said. The pace of the song in parts also gives it a power up/power down or mechanical type feel which is cool. Also, thank goodness for the T-shirts and jean shorts. :D

For me it's kind of crazy. They are obviously spliced together and at the shoot they probably took at the least 50 pics of each girl yet the best they had for Sunny is one where she has her eyes closed? :wth Same goes for like half of the others.

So, does anyone else think Differentstory12 could have done better?  :jphip: I mean, their idea of escalation was confetti.
It's time for GREENSCREEN PV SHOWDOWN: did C-ute's Dance de Bakoon do it better?

Zoolander:
I think Wake Up is one of those "too bare bones" songs. As with Visual Dreams, Hitchhiker takes a little too long to make the arrangement go anywhere, but even at the interlude it isn't nearly as bit an escalation as Visual Dreams's was, and the follow-up chorus, like Showx3, was just the same as the others. The melody was good, but for something haunting like that it should have spiralled into a mess of soul-sucking noise like a horror movie. Instead of stagnating like it did.

Huh, actually Kenzie didn't do Destiny or Boyfriend at all. My bad! I like Girlfriend a lot too, even if H!P does retro better.  :P
Okay yeah, I change my mind. Kenzie's electro-pop songs are pretty sweet. One More Time, Okay?, Jojo, and Lachata are all good. And the Oh instrumental has all sorts of goodies in it.

Huh, a lot of my favorite Yoo Young Jin tracks aren't actually arranged by him. Of his arrangements, I do agree Sorryx2 and Bonamanananana are messy, and Ring Ding Dong is a little noisy(it's like...minimalistically noisy? wtf, maybe it's just my earbuds) I can't navigate the DBSK website to find who arranged Rising Sun, but that one has a clarity his stuff now lacks, coming from how it never lets the electronic synths take precedence.
Keep Your Head Down however is very interesting because it seems more epic than it really is. There's actually not that much that goes on in the arrangement but it feels like it's progressing and escalating solely on the strength of the vocals. Maximum is slightly noisy like Ring Ding Dong but not as much because like Rising Sun the electronic synths aren't in the front as they were for RDD. The distorted guitar though is very distracting for how noisy it is, despite being suppressed.

So in summary Yoo Young Jin should just stay away from making fully electro-pop songs. His arrangements work better the less electronic they are.

I don't really have anything exciting to say about the vid, it's just a bit of a let down considering it's Intel's campaign and I kinda expected quite a lot more creativety.

Well I had already figured it would be cheapo, I mean they had some great ones in 09' but the last year or so they've all been been pretty bland. It would be nice if the campaign people put some thought into it and prepared better, I heard they had to learn the dance and stuff in a rush and it shows. It looks like they are thinking about every move.

The silver dresses are good, I'll give it that. Although they would be better without the clodhopper shoes.

Oh, I did look up that C-ute video and yea that's a lot better done cheap green screen. A lot more dynamic lighting and direction and what not.

I was thinking the dresses were RDR leftovers, since they missed out a lot of RDR perfs due to the ship situation. :P
