MORE FISH In Stores December 19th!

"Ghostface is on a roll. The sequel to Fishscale - the most critically-acclaimed hip-hop album of the year - More Fish is Ghost doing what Ghost does best. On tracks like the blazing "Ghost Is Back" and the new single "Good," Tony Starks brings you that raw and uncut. Ghost's crew, Theodore Unit, is heavily featured on More Fish, and his teenage son - Sun God - shines."

I haven't listened to ICP since I was in middle school, but I just came across this article(http://www.paoracle.com/?archive=77) I thought was pretty interesting. It goes into the whole thing with the Dark Carnival and the meaning behind it. Don't know how many fans there are here(I only know one), and I know some people HATE them, but I think it's still worth a read.

Ok, it's official: Kanye West has the biggest ego in the rap game:

EMAs Shocker: Kanye Stage Invasion!

"The Best Hip Hop winner lashes out after missing out on Best Video award...

Kanye West unleashed an amazing outburst after failing to take home the gong for 'Best Video' for his 'Touch The Sky' promo at the EMAs.

Crashing the stage as winners Justice and Simian collected their silverwear for 'We Are Your Friends', the hip hop star spat, "F*ck dis! (My video) cost a million dollars, Pamela Anderson was in it, I was jumping across canyons and sh*t! If I don't win, the awards show loses credibility. Nothing against you (J&S), but hell man."

His verbal tirade left audience members gasping but it didn't end there.

After the show the offended star continued to vent his spleen in the press conference.

He told the world's media he was upset because he had "the best video."

"I haven't seen (the Justice and Simian video). Possibly it could have been quite good but no way better than 'Touch The Sky'.

"That is complete bullsh*t, I paid a million. Obviously it's not all about the money, but the response it got transcended everything, it really made great TV.

"It took a month to film; I stood on a mountain; I flew a heliocopter over Vegas. I did it to be the king of all videos and I wanted to walk home with that award."

He said of the Justice and Simian's win: "That was some spread the love bullshit, 'Oh everyone should have an award'. Please press people print 'Kanye says f*ck that!'

But proving he wasn't just a sore loser, the harangued hip hop star said he was happy to lose out to Justin Timberlake in the 'Best Male' category.

"Obviously Justin should have won, he's on fire and he's an inspiration to me," he said.

Let's hope he didn't hear JT's wisecrack about his, er, speech.

The slinky-hipped one quipped, "After the show, Kanye will be in the parking lot accepting awards he did not win. Seriously though, I've got sexy covered, it's good to see someone's doing crazy."

Ouch!"

personally, i liked Late Registration.  It was better than College Dropout, technically.  Although he's cocky, you can't deny he's got talent.  Its also kinda expected he acts like this, calling himself an asshole and all.  Its entertaining.

-----

It was ripped a few days ago, but I got the new Game album.  No Dre, but a whole slew of Producers.

The Hi-Tek : Hi-Teknology 2 The Chip came out too.  Thats another dope album.

I got the AZ The Format album too, but I haven't listened to it yet.  Im sorta in my R&B/Pop groove atm, so I haven't really been keeping up with HipHop.

Hmm...I sill like College Dropout better than Late Registration, but I don't think Late Registration is bad as a lot of people have said (not here, but in other places lol) I mean, shit, Kanye should get awards, he's been cheated out of a bunch like this right here, but when you're a celebrity and known to have an ego it just gets played up more.

I need to go cop the new GAME album and the new Hi-Tek album as well...

Courtesy of the best, Miichan!

Review:
Quote
Review from SUPPOSED A7r/Rep at Def Jam.

Ok here's my thoughts on the album. Please bare in mind that I've only heard the album through once and my opinion isn't final. Might be a grower and also the system we listened to it on was very bass heavy so I didn't catch all of the lyrics so here's just a first impression.

01. Prelude (Prod. Ghettobot) - Big song. Simple yet addictive beat. Jay gives his reasons for coming back. Some nice wordplay. Good start to album. 4/5

02. Oh My God (Prod. Just Blaze) - When this kicked off I was really into it. Sounded very Hovi Baby, but it lost my attention by the end of the song. Needs more listens to give proper opinion. Jay doesn't spit about anything in particular. 3/5

03. Kingdom Come (Prod. Just Blaze) - Y'all know the deal already. 3/5

04. Show Me What You Got (Prod. Just Blaze) - Same again. 3/5

05. Lost One (Feat. Chrissette Michelle) (Prod. Dr. Dre) - Again you've heard this. Received confirmation that this will be the second single. 1st verse is for Dame & Biggs, 2nd verse is for Beyonce and the 3rd verse is for his deceased nephew. Christte Michelle is some new chick signed to Def Jam and is in the mould of like a Jill Scott (according to the Def Jam rep). 4/5

06. Do You Wanna Ride (Feat. John Legend) (Prod. Kanye West) - This is meant to be a letter to an incarcerated friend though apart from some talking at the beginning (“I dunno how to write a letter, sh*t I don’t even write rhymes”) I couldn't hear it myself. Mainly it's just Jay bragging about his business ventures. Beat is cool but nothing mind-blowing. John Legend on the hook. 3/5

07. 30 Something (Prod. Dr.Dre) - Jay's trying to say that being 30 is the new 20. Not very convincing. Nice verse at the end where he makes comparisons between a young person’s view and an old person’s and one of the lines is "you respect the one that got shot, I respect the shooter." Drums are exactly the same as Lost One. 2/5

08. I Made It (Prod. Dr.Dre) - Dedicated to his mother. Not as heartfelt or emotional as a Dear Mama or Hey Mama. Beat sounds more like Just Blaze with the African drums and sample. Very un-Dre-ish. 2/5

09. Anything (Feat. Usher & Pharrell) (Prod. The Neptunes) - Horrible track. Weird beat. Strip club song. Jay has a fast flow. Not much else to say. 1/5

10. Hollywood (Feat. Beyonce) (Prod. Scyience) - Track detailing the ups and downs of fame. Cheesy hook (written by Ne-Yo) which sounds very much like it should be in a Broadway/ West End musical or something. Funky beat (horns) like the usual BJ collabos, but weak in my opinion. 2/5

11. Trouble (Prod. Dr.Dre) – East coast beat from Dre, doesn’t sound like him ‘till the piano kicks in. I can’t really remember what Jay was talking about on this. It didn’t really capture my attention (on this listen). 2/5

12. Dig A Hole (Feat. Sterling Simms) (Prod. Swizz Beatz) – This is like a combination of Dirt Off Your Shoulder (in terms of the beat) and Threat (in terms of lyrics), but just not as good. Hard beat from Swizz, Jay spitting his “I’ll dead your career” lyrics. Sterling Simms is a new singer signed to Def Jam. 3/5

13. Minority Report (Feat. Ne-Yo) (Prod. Dr. Dre) – Thank fu*k for this track. This is a song about Hurricane Katrina and after the previous 7 weak tracks that came before it I was looking for something to save the album. This could possibly be it. The track begins and ends with clips from news reports from Katrina. Dre provides a big, deep, dark, booming beat for Jay who spits about the media coverage of the victims of Katrina (hence the title Minority Report). He explains how he saw helicopters swooping to get the scoop, but they couldn’t scoop up the victims, and also how he felt helpless during the tragedy. The only issue I had with this track was that Jay only spits 1 verse (albeit, 1 long verse) before Ne-Yo takes over what I assumed was the hook but turns out to be the outro. 4/5

14. Beach Chair (Feat. Chris Martin) (Prod. Chris Martin) – I was expecting a sombre outro to the album, especially when I found out the track was featuring and produced by Chris Martin, but there was definitely an air of menace to this song (which I liked). At first I was a little thrown by the sound, but by the end of the song I was hooked. Dre supplied some loud arse banging drums for this, which just adds to the mood and Martins haunting vocals fit in perfectly (though I couldn’t tell if it was just one line looped). Jay spits about his business ventures (again!) and how life is like one big beach chair, good performance. 4/5

Overall: 3/5

So there you have it. Again let me reiterate I don’t wanna get carried away after just one listen. Cos some of the tracks may be better (or worse) on multiple listens so I’ve tried to stay pretty neutral with my comments. Other info I received was that Timbo came in towards the end of the project for a few days but nothing made the final cut. Primo was never involved due to schedule difficulties. 4 of the tracks (Prelude, Oh My God, I Made It and Anything) were completed two weeks ago whilst on tour in Australia and I did get the feeling that this was a rushed project.

MTV News: Raekwon Partners With Dr. Dre For Cuban Linx Sequel

Raekwon isn't arrogant, he just has no doubt he'll win on his next LP, Only Built 4 Cuban Linx, Part 2.

How can he be so sure? Not only does he have fellow Wu-Tang member RZA in his corner, but it's official: The Chef said he's inked a deal with Dr. Dre's Aftermath label, and the Doc will be producing a bulk of the beats on the album as well.

"I just felt it was going to be something to excite the fans in hip-hop," Rae said Tuesday evening. "Let them know I'm dealing with a whole list of thorough superproducers that's making sure this legacy of Cuban Linx carries on. We thought it was a brilliant idea to have RZA and Dr. collaborate, us being big Dre fans. His classics sheet is way long. As well as RZA's.

"We felt we wanted to put a twist on it and let everybody know the sh-- is that important," he continued. "We going through generation expansion, where the generations are differentiating. We wanted to give them a taste of something new as well as what they wanna see."

Rae said initially Dre was supposed to just produce a couple of tracks for the album, but everything just got better as they kept working. "Allah put us in the right place," he explained. "I'm working real hard, putting little pieces together. The album is coming out great. Everything is up to par. We still working on it, we never stop working till the last day."

The album is slated for release next year, although there's no official date for the LP as of yet. Rae also reported that besides Dre and RZA, the album will feature production from the late J Dilla, as well as Scram Jones (N.O.R.E., Mariah Carey) and DJ Scratch.

The last we heard from Raekwon, he was traveling to Africa with Paul Wall and Tego Calderón to examine the troubled diamond trade in war-torn Sierra Leone (see "Kanye, Paul Wall Urge Rappers To 'Bling Responsibly' In Documentary").

R.I.P. ODB!
I can't believe it has already been two years since he passed away

Brand new interview with Raekwon:

Only Built for Cuban Linx is a classic dish that The Chef, Raekwon, served up in 1995 and 11 years later people are still looking for seconds. Only Built for Cuban Linx II is set for release in early `07 and after his VH1 Hip-Hop Honors props, Raekwon feels like his career is, again, just beginning.

Considering himself one of the last Mohicans in hip-hip, Rae maintains his authenticity and places priority on time when making records; not making records for money, but for the sake of his art. Vintage bangers like “Rainy Dayz” and “Verbal Intercourse” lift the bar for OBFCL II and with The Chef’s buffet of styles, rap fans wait in anticipation for an album Raekwon says, “Will be cinematic.”

Format: It’s been 11-years since your first album, Only Built for Cuban Linx, how have you seen yourself grow?

Raekwon: Since my first album, I see myself as one of the illest artists you’ve ever met in your life. I keep growing with time, I take lyricism real important, it’s not like I’m trying to sit here and be the best lyricist, but I’m trying to be one of the best lyricists. I wouldn’t say too much has changed except my vocabulary and maneuvering of words and mastering all kinds of flows. You gotta remember, I’m the Chef, so I’m always going to come out with different dishes and them dishes are my technique, like how I may challenge a beat that I really like or I may rhyme with more style, or I may rhyme with more concept…I just get better with time.

Format: On your first album, you said, there was a cinematic theme. What is the theme or baseline of Only Built For Cuban Linx Two?

Raekwon: It’s going to be cinematic, it’s the lifestyle of a drug dealer, you know all the things that brothers can respect, you know…when you think about Only Built for Cuban Linx you think about the dudes that we really said was those kind of dudes, so I really just travel back in that direction just to let cats know that the streets definitely made me the person that I am. I have no problem going back to that type of format for this album, which is the same format we were dealing with 11-years-ago. So I just need to step it up more and create the visual again to make dudes be like, ‘Yeah that’s the kind of shit we lookin for.’ That’s cocaine rap.

Format: You have Dr. Dre, RZA and the late J. Dilla on production. What was your involvement with him, because I know Ghost did some work with him?

Raekwon: Well first and foremost I want to say RIP to that brother, I wish he was here so I can shake his hand and tell him thanks. Busta was the man that was basically the catalyst to that situation. You know I’ve been a fan of Dilla’s work watching him do various projects. Busta had a CD of his one day and was like, ‘How do you like that?’ And, I was like he sounds so much like he and RZA got a lot in common. I just heard him and I respected his talent and we talked on the phone one time, and then he had that tragic incident, but you know if feels good to deal with that cat, and really learn more about him. I never really knew he was as big as he was, so to me it was like dealing with a legend in his own art, you know.

Format: In the last 11-years, what has been the largest challenge, for you, in hip-hop?

Raekwon: I’ve seen more or less the creativity side, you know what I mean, people are following trends of other dudes and it’s–really hip-hop is becoming more cosmetic. No one is really trying to make an album that is really making an impression. People are really coming with the radio and commercial, and that kind of world. I know when I first started doing music I didn’t have any concern about how the media was going to take it, but it was more or less about the fans, but now it seems it’s more about the media too. You know, if the media ain’t satisfied with your work they don’t know how to distinguish your shit to be looked at on another level. Like, when I dropped various albums before, people felt like I was serving cocaine rap, regardless if it had a concept that had a positive direction. They didn’t really get to hear, because the people who were exploiting it they weren’t happy with my talent. Say for instance, you don’t like something that is not Cuban Linx, but to you it may sound good, but you still want Cuban Linx and if you feel you’re not getting that then you’re going to put in the review that I’m not on my job. A lot of motherfuckers don’t look at a dude’s talent and respect it for what it is. I think that’s what a lot of people need to start to understand, you say you want a person to grow but when they grow you don’t want them to grow, because you want what you want. It’s kind of like being selfish to the artist and at the same time being selfish to yourself for not letting the artist to have opportunity to show what he can do.

Format: Instead of being this redundant artist that comes out with the same thing all the time.

Raekwon: Yeah, it’s like where I’m from you wear the same pair of sneakers and [if] everybody got them on somebody is going to shoot to the next pair. It’s just out of respect, it’s like alright we know that’s the shoe but now it’s time to move on to the next shoe you know what I mean? It just seems like some people don’t want it to go down like that, they just want that Uptown and I ain’t going to lie, I love AF1s, but every now and then I see something that attracts me…if it looks hot it looks hot!

Format: On the track “Sneakers” you said you’re an Adidas freak, are Adidas still the shoe that you rock?

Raekwon: You know what son, it’s ill that you just said Adidas just now my dude, because I’m sittin right here at the table with a brand new pair of black shell toe Adidas right here in my face, that’s ill you said that.

Format: Other than Adidas, what other sneakers attract your eye?

Raekwon: I have an eye for all types of stuff. My sneakers go from Adidas all the way to Louis Voutton, Gucci sneakers, Prada. Whatever I feel looks good on me and like I said, I’m a big sneaker fan but for the most part I’ll always love the Uptowns, that’s always going to be one of my selections. At the same time there is other shit that a kid wants to look at too, because I’m tired of looking at the same shoe all the time.

Format: Have you ever put a pair or kicks on ice?

Raekwon: Nah, when I was younger I may have done that, but everybody–actually, I got a pair of sneakers right now that I didn’t rock yet and the kicks is made out of tennis ball fur so its like I’m just trying to make sure I rock the right outfit, they were a gift to me from this group called Alife. Just imagine a sneaker made out a tennis ball.

Format: Right now, how many sneakers do you own?

Raekwon: I can’t even count, I may go through 600 pair of Uptowns a year. You know how we love sneakers. Sneakers is part of your forte of the person you are. People probably don’t look at it like that, but when you come from the block you know your sneakers are important. When people see good sneakers on your feet they know you’re alright and you’re up to par.

Format: What are the first pair of sneakers that you copped and decided to keep clean?

Raekwon: The first pair I got that I really appreciated was when AF1s’ started changing the colors and they had the straps on them. Like the green and white pair when they first came out and I used to love them shoes, because I used to rock them with Coca-Cola shirts. You know the Coca-Cola had the green and white, blue and white, and red and white, and it was like the Uptown Airs were made for those types of shirts. Like those rugby shirts you know what I mean? I really tried to hold on to my green pair, because I had the olive green.

Format: You talked about emcees and how a lot of them are saying lines but they aren’t really saying anything?

Raekwon: Yeah, I mean it’s like when we go to the movies, now, I’m a the level where I really want to see a good movie, I just don’t want to see a movie, I want to see something where I can say, ‘Yo, I really enjoyed that movie.’ And, that’s what I really don’t feel in hip-hop no more. There are a lot of people out there doing their thing. All praises due to the man that can hold his, but as far as me, I want people to know that Rae is a visionary and he can go wherever we ask him to go, but we can also respect where he wants to go to. It’s like making a cake, going back to the cocaine rap, it’s really just a form of hunger that I really feel needed to bring back to the forefront of the table. I’m doing it for the people first and me next. Any other time it would be me first but this one is for ya’ll, because I know a lot of people across the world recognize me as a legend at what I do. I’m almost like a civil rights movement. When we started that movement and then we just left it alone.

Format: Has anyone come close to your style?

Raekwon: I don’t know, to me that’s like a double-edge sword. Like, you do hear dudes flip they flows and they styles, and you hear producers with the same kind of soundwaves that we once dealt with before. To me, you really can’t be looked at as leaders if you can’t be the artist that everyone doesn’t want you to be. I think it’s so important for artists to step they game up and really start making good albums, because now the game is fucked up with all the downloading, that really put a damper on the financial aspect of selling records. I think if you make something that people are really going to love they will go and get your shit.

Format: Nas’ new album is titled Hip-Hop is Dead, what’s your opinion on that?

Raekwon: It’s dead to a degree where some of that makes sense. You know, it makes sense to me, but it doesn’t have to make sense to the world. I understand where he’s coming from, but as far as me, hip-hop is what you make it. There are many kinds of hip-hop, there is graffiti hip-hop, there is hip-hop with skateboarders, you see what Lupe and them are doing, they’re opening up other avenues of hip-hop, but it’s about respecting all kinds of hip-hop. The radio gets caught up into the suit and tie hip-hop, and the money side of it instead of looking at who’s really rhyming, and who be like, ‘Yo I put on this cat’s CD and I don’t what he just said but it sounds sweet!’ It’s like you still want to have that passion for it and it’s like that passion is fading. So I guess that’s where that kid is coming from, as far as what he is saying. It’s like it’s just for kids now. They want it to be so much for kids. To me hip-hop is crazy right now.

Format: You’ve said that your career has just begun and there is a lot of work you have left to do. Can you expand on that?

Raekwon: Yo, there is a lot, but I want to be able to drop more product because you know I only have three albums solo in my whole career and I’ve been involved with maybe 25-30 albums. And, as far as the Chef, I didn’t really feel like I got a chance to show my talent to my ability. I always play tag team with somebody else and their project or Wu projects, but now I want to break the barriers and do different things. It ain’t like I like to be away from my fans doing for four or five years not doing albums, but it happens like that and now I’m ready to make a change. It’s like starting all over bringing it back to them Champion hoodies and take off the suede for a minute, and love the art of what I like to do. When I listen to the music I want to smile again.

Format: Recently, Wu-Tang was honored at the VH1 Hip-Hop Honors, but Ghostface was missing, what’s the word on that?

Raekwon: To be honest and I’m not going to sugarcoat nothing, I don’t know where Ghost was at. In a way, it kind of hurt me, but you know brothers is grown and at the end of the day people will look at the things the way they look at them. Me, I was pissed off and he knows it. I look at it like, wow it’s your birthday homie and you’re not here for your birthday, wow.

Format: At the end of the day, what do you want your art to say?

Raekwon: I just want my just due, you see, me, I’m not one of these young cats that come with a one hit wonder. I want it be like when Chef’s shit come out you can bet your ass in 20-years it will still stand next to the illest emcees that are out then. I feel very much underrated, but I feel respected and dominant. It’s really to let the fans know I didn’t give up on my skill, or I didn’t lose anything. I still tried to be conscious and represent the street side, which I always do. You have to teach the kids through the music. I really take this art seriously.

Ghostface Unveils 'More Fish' At NYC Event

Ghostface Killah previewed tracks from his forthcoming Def Jam album "More Fish" yesterday (Nov. 20) for media in New York. As previously reported, the set, due Dec. 12, boasts production by MF Doom, Pete Rock, Madlib and Hi-Tek, as well as guest appearances by Redman and Sheek Louch of the Lox.

The new offering is preceded by the upbeat single "Good." In contrast to Ghostface's previous effort, "Fishscale" -- which bowed at No. 4 on The Billboard 200 in April and has sold 295,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan -- the posse-heavy disc boasts a grittier street sound on songs like "Miguel Sanchez" and "Guns N' Razors," though with much of the same underground production.

Ghostface produced the high-speed "Ghost Is Back" while MF Doom helmed "Cartoonz" and Madlib crafted "Block Rock." Another cut is the Hi-Tek-produced "Josephine," a soulful cut that also appears on "Hi-Teknology Vol. 2." Also present at the listening was Ghost's Staten Island-based rap group Theodore Unit, which is featured on the album cuts "Miguel Sanchez" and "God 2 God." The crew consists of Trife Da God, Cappadonna, Shawn Wiggs and Ghostface's 17-year-old son Sun God, who guests on the track "Street Opera."

In related news, Ghostface will jump aboard the Rock the Bells tour for a handful of dates in the next month, beginning Nov. 30 in Boston. As previously reported, the trek begins tonight in Washington, D.C., and will feature Raekwon and Redman but not Keith Murray, who has bailed out due to "unforeseen circumstances."

Tracklist:
"Ghost Is Back"
"Miguel Sanchez"
"Guns N' Razors"
"Outta Town Sh*t"
"Good"
"Street Opera"
"Block Rock"
"Miss Info Celebrity Drama Skit"
"Pokerface"
"Greedy B*tches"
"Josephine"
"Grew Up Hard"
"Blue Armor"
"You Know I'm No Good"
"Alex (Stolen Script)"
"Gotta Hold On"
"Back Like That (remix)"
