It's a new music game similar to Guitar Hero, but this also includes a drumset, and a mic. The singing is similar to that karaoke revolution game.
Wow, don't know whether I should get this or GH3. The price for a bunlde is US$169.99, for both 360 and PS3, US$159.99 for PS2, while a bundle for GH3 is about US$99.99

The release date is November 20 if anyone cares.

I'm a religious GH player  From the looks of it each game has it's own strengths and weaknesses. With GH3, if you've been playing since the beginning, there's not much new here. But that's ok, because if it ain't broke, don't fix it. And what a setlist GH3 has. Already looks like the best of the series yet. La Grange, Suck My Kiss, 3's & 7's, Raining Blood, Number Of The Beast, One, it's like the developers read my mind. But then there's inclusions like Slipknot, In Flames and Disturbed that kinda ruin it. Oh well, trying to complete Through The Fire And The Flames will outweigh that (the  song that many 'experts' are all failing at the intro alone )

Rock Band also looks awesome, the drum peripheral in particular looks like so much fun to play with, and the developers even said that those that can play with the drums on Expert setting can pretty much play the real deal in reality. Not many games boast that. Strong setlist as well, if only let down by the recent inclusion of Fall Out Boy :P Other problems? For the experienced GH fans, the songs look too easy to play on lead guitar and price is also a big factor. But that's ok if you think of how much fun you and drunken mates could have if you get it. Plus it's made by Harmonix, the original creators of Guitar Hero, so these guys know their stuff.

I'll put up the setlist of each game so you can judge for yourselves:

I've got a Wii, so I've got to wait a couple months to get Rockband. GHIII will satisfy the itch in the meantime.

Been waiting for this game since the release of the first Guitar Hero!

Still don't have a next-gen system and I'm not gonna spend the money for the ps2 version when I'm not even sure it will be able to read the disc -___-

But then there's inclusions like Slipknot, In Flames and Disturbed that kinda ruin it.

In Flames is one of the greatest Swedish Deathmetal bands ever and is far beyond the ranks of shit metal bands like Slipknot and Disturbed. >:| Having to put them in the same sentence is bad enough.

Anyways,

In terms of song list, GH3 is far superior IMO. But I think Rock Band will make for a far better experience. It's sorta like the first Guitar Hero, even though the song list wasn't that great, it made up for it in how fun the game was.

Really my main reason to want GH3 is so I can play "Through the Fire and the Flames" on it. XD I saw some videos on Youtube, song looks fun and frustrating as fuck. Some parts are actually easier on an actual guitar(as is lots of GH songs)

My bad. I realise that In Flames is widely regarded as such and that Take This Life isn't even regarded as one of their best songs by their own fans. It looks tough to play from what I've seen, but I'm just not a huge fan of any kind of death metal (not to imply that Slipknot or Disturbed are death metal. They're just shit). So yeh they'll be 2 songs I'll play once and then never again, oh and AFI

Still think that some J-rock songs should be included as a J-rock character, Midori, is in there looking to represent something. Axel represents the metal, Casey with the hard rock, Johnny with the punk, just seems kind of weird that she should be included without a couple of songs that really 'belong' to her. And language barrier isn't a problem as french, spanish and german songs are included. Perhaps some downloadable content in the future will change that though

I will not pass TTFATF on expert. That's a fact. I can't pass Jordan on Expert, what chance will I have? On hard is where it's at, and it will be a hell of a lot of fun to play

I'm probably gonna wait out on Rock Band, since I don't have a ps3 or 360. They had it out at the local Best Buy and it looked really good. The guitar controller is really nice and feels solid, not all cheap and plastic like the first Guitar Hero controller. The drum kit is pretty simple, but I don't think it has a kick drum, or at least I didn't see one.
Sticking to GH3 for now. I just got a little bit past halfway, but I'm having trouble with that fuckin Slipknot song.

^ It's coming out for the PS2 though as well, right? So Before I Forget is tough eh? I don't want to watch any more videos, otherwise it's just no fun playing a song for the first time knowing what to expect. Can you make any comparisons to previous songs?

Probably like Beast and the Harlot, but less fun to play. It's got these damn chords in the bridge part that I really hate. I don't even like the song.

^ Guitar Hero 3 is going to be the first GH game I'm buying, so I dont know to much about career mode and all. Are you able to choose what difficulty you play the song in Career mood?

Songs I look foward to playing to in GH3 are Miss Murder, Lay down, and the Metal

btw, would anybody mind if I changed this topic title to Guitar Hero/Rock Band?   lol

^ Probably for the best if you do!

Basically in career mode, you select any difficulty from Easy (Red, Green, Yellow buttons only), Medium ( RGY Blue only), Hard (all 5) or Expert (all 5 and you really need to master hammer-ons and pull-offs to get the best out of it). The difficulty determines the level of all the songs you play. But you're not limited to just one career. You can go halfway through the career on easy and start another career on expert without having to lose any data.

Progressing through the career is a matter of passing all the songs on each setlist (4 songs initially but an 'encore' track is unlocked as you pass all 4). Simple as. GHIII's career differs in that you have boss battles at the end of particular setlists, with real life guitarists such as Tom Morello (Rage Against The Machine) or Slash (Guns N Roses), each playing songs they specifically wrote for GHIII. Think there's only 3 in all though.

I'm not sure if it's right, but I think the only way to unlock Through The Fire And The Flames is to pass career mode first of all. I think it's on any difficulty, but someone said it can only be done through expert only, which would suck if true, cause I'm not sure if I'll pass! Luckily there's an unlock all songs cheat :P

Probably like Beast and the Harlot, but less fun to play. It's got these damn chords in the bridge part that I really hate. I don't even like the song.

Didn't even like Beast and the Harlot all that much so this sounds worse. The most frustrating song I feel was Freya on GHII. Damn, green-orange-blue lasted forever!

Oh dear 3's & 7's is really tough? That's the one song that I'm dying to play above all others! I can see why though, the song itself sounds about penultimate tier worthy. Can't wait to try it myself. I was going to go through career mode on hard to start off with, just to unlock all the songs, but now it sounds like I'll struggle even with that!

Thanks for the info tenkei! :thumbsup Hope you get past the final boss soon enough! Any favourites so far?

favorites so far... hmmm

The Killers - When You Were Young
Rage - Bulls on Parade
GnR - Welcome to the Jungle
Smashing Pumpkins - Cherub Rock
Eric Johnson - Cliffs of Dover (quite challenging, but really fun)

I havent played any of the bonus tracks yet really

also, the muse song blows ass. not actually hard, but tiring and lame.

Muse is awesome, but they're far from guitar rock. It's like having a Post-Rock Band game, it's nice to listen to but would be boring as a game

They had some Rock Band Tour thing go to my school today, was busy the whole day so only got a chance to play one song before they had to take the little setup down.

The guitar feels almost like a real guitar, it was awesome, though I thought the picking thing was a bit harder to move really fast if you tend to play it like a real guitar. Love how it has buttons on the bottom of the neck though and some little improve sections  I'm expecting some tapping solos

The drums do have a kick drum, you play it on the orange lines that go across the board.

I really want a ps3 now so I can get the game. Since my ps2 is fucked, I think that would be the best choice. And they did drop the 80gb $100 bucks. It's not like I have the money though, I'm trying to convince my little brother to convince my parents to buy one XD Maybe I'll have to settle for the 40gb, but I'm not sure if it can play legacy ps1 and ps2 games.

Haven't even played GH3 yet...

I might go to Bestbuy since they always have guitar hero to play(or maybe even rock band)

I finally got through the Slipknot song. Almost done with the set, just need to beat the encore. The Muse song was actually the easiest on that set. It's got the ridiculous tremolo picking, but I can get through that with some ease. It was the part with the stretches that screwed me up.

I'm probably never gonna play any of those songs in that set again, lol.
