The song is "Far and Away" by Masahi Sada. Here is the character that Makoto based her character on, played by the veteran acting great Kunie Tanaka (田中邦衛) in the 2002 reprisal of Kita no Kuni Kara (北の国から /From a North Country), which was a family drama from 20 years before- and now at age 70, with the kids from the earlier series all grown up, Tanaka san really earns the viewers' tears in this scene:

Wtf, I was reading about my poor chica crying because she didn't think she was going to get a PB,because people didn't think she was pretty enough!

BULLSHIT! I've loved her since I first saw her. She and Rika were the first ones I'd noticed and still are my favs out of all of MM.

But back to Makoto feeling fugly. Whoever these assholes are that told her that, need to be kicked in their fucking throat -.-. Makoto will never be ugly she has a fantastic personality, that won me over instantly. For me, I like a girl that can make me laugh and joke around. Her beauty only adds to her appeal.

I will always love Makoto ( until she marries some douchebag ) maybe even then =P.
