Arson has become a serious problem, with youths burning schools, warehouses and more than 500 vehicles on Thursday night.

Nearly 80 arrests were made in Paris.

Most of the attacks took place in Seine-Saint-Denis, where about 1,300 police had been deployed.

Cars were torched in the eastern city of Dijon, and sporadic unrest broke out in southern and western France.

As on previous nights, gangs of youths armed with bricks and sticks roamed the streets of housing estates. The situation had calmed down at dawn.

The unrest began over a week ago after teenagers Bouna Traore, aged 15, and Zyed Benna, 17, were accidentally electrocuted at an electricity sub-station in Clichy-sous-Bois.

Local people say they were fleeing police - a claim the authorities deny. Inquiries are under way.

Hmm that's so crazy where i live
Wednesday, i saw 30~40 youth with baseball bats, guns, knife etc...

:(

I hope you stay safe.

Any word on whether the riots are starting to die down?

I can't help but feel that this is the result of people failing to assimilate and join the larger society around them. Multi-culturalism is an intellectual failure, the melting pot is so much more effective. I just can't accept that having a whole bunch of separate impoverished ethnic enclaves is a feasible way to build any country.

That's... INCREDIBLE.
And really disgusting.

There is some months, there was a riot in my town too... (Perpignan, i live in France)
Algerians wanted to kill gipsies, and gipsies wanted to kill algerians... 8)
It was because of a murder... An algerian was killed by a gipsy... Et voilà. War. 8)
It was a bit like Paris... Fire, guns, shops destroyed... Except it lasted 2 or 3 nights.

Anyway, that's incredible...

And during this time, government sleeps...
I'm sick of France...

Is there a political solution if rioters don't have any real demands or anything They're just destroying places...

I would clear streets by force, but I don't know if it's too rough though.

I think water cannons would do the trick.

Kinda stupid that they're destroying stuff of people who aren't even involved~

In Sweden a law fotbids use of a water cannon, so there's nothing between baton and guns. I hope there's better laws in France :)

Who are involved then? Should they destroy police cars only? Or politicians'?
