UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hitomi looked up at the wall clock. It was almost 5:30. The sun was setting and darkness slowly stepped into the city of Makati. The streetlights were on and one by one, the buildings lit up from their small windows.
Rika pried herself from Hitomi's embrace. Hitomi, irked by the sudden gap between them, complained. "Hey~ What gives?"
"I need to cook your dinner now, To-chan." Rika tapped the tip of Hitomi's nose with her finger. "What do you want to eat?"
Hitomi rubbed her stomach trying to think of what it fancies at the moment. "Do we have beef? ... I think I want something with beef in it..."
After a few steps in the direction of the kitchen, Rika turned back. "Any beef dish?"
"Yah..." Hitomi stood up and walked to her room. She had to free up some space for the new occupant.
Hitomi looked at her bed. Rika changed the sheets two weeks ago so the linens were still relatively clean save for some drops of drool here and there. But Hitomi thought forest green wasn't Rika's color. She went to the guest bedroom and took out a set of linens from a cabinet.
Hitomi diligently changed the sheets. She can't have Rika move into a disordered room. Heck, she even changed the curtains. All the linens were in the perfect combination of pink and brown. Rika really was the pink type. Hitomi stood back and observed her handiwork. "I hope Ka-chan likes this..."
From behind the door, Hitomi heard the voice of Rika with three soft knocks. "To-chan~, dinner's ready..."
"I'm coming, Ka-chan..." Hitomi answered quickly. She joined Rika at the table just as quick. She looked at the food Rika prepared for her. "Ooh, is that bistek Tagalog?" she asked, pointing at the bowl.
Rika answered with a nod. "... It's the easiest to prepare... Have you had it before?"
"Yes... at the cafeteria in the office..." Hitomi assumed her seat at the table. Rika served her the usual amount of rice, two cups for starters. “I hope you like it… … be caref--” The warning came too late.
Hitomi immediately dug in. Suddenly her eyes shot wide open. “HHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH” She fanned at her mouth with her hand.
Rika quickly poured her a glass of water that Hitomi downed faster than she did with the rice. “--ful… the rice is still hot…”
Hitomi downed another glass, but the damage has been done. “Why didn’t you say it earlier?”
“Well, I was going to… some people just don’t know how to restrain themselves in the presence of food…” Rika rolled her eyes at Hitomi as a smile slowly crept to her lips. Rika asked in a sweeet whisper, “Was my To-chan hurt?”
“My tongue hurts… that rice is damned hot…”
“Is there something I can do to make it better?”
A naughty smile suddenly appeared on Hitomi’s face as she moved closer to the table, to Rika who was across. “Well… there is—”
“No.”
Hitomi fell back on the chair, her arms falling to each side in resignation. “Aww… you saw through my plans.”
Rika’s lips formed a pout. “You promised me.”
“I know… I was just kidding, Ka-chan… I’ll never break a promise to you. Ever.”
“Good. Because if you do, I’ll move back to my room… So behave yourself.”
“Yes, Ka-chan.” Hitomi answered like a scolded child. Her attention returned to the bistek on her plate. The rice has finally cooled down a bit.
Rika stole glances at Hitomi who was enjoying the bistek. She felt a giggle coming but she held it back. She didn’t want Hitomi to notice the audience to her meal. She could really open her mouth wide for food. She was unbelievable.
The quantity that Hitomi eats every meal reminded Rika of her father. He was a very hearty eater. He ate anything and everything his wife, Yumiko, cooked. Even the experimental dishes that didn’t turn out right, he would gobble up like there’s no tomorrow.
Rika kept her gaze on Hitomi. She was a messy eater. She had a bit of rice on her cheek and some of the sauce had fallen on her shirt. But she didn’t seem to mind. Rika giggled at the thoughts going through her mind.
To-san and Ka-san would never let me eat out with someone who eats like you. After two more cups of rice, Hitomi had finished all the bistek Rika cooked. “Isn’t there anymore?”
“To-chan! You’ve eaten 4 cups of rice!”
“But your cooking is so good… It’s way better than the cooking of the lunch lady in the cafeteria…”
Rika blushed. “You’re just saying that…”
“No… really… I mean it…” Hitomi took the serving bowl of the bistek. “Isn’t there anymore?”
“... ... You ate everything up…”
“So there’s nothing left…? ... Even on the stove?”
Rika looked at her in disbelief. “To-chan, that recipe was good for five people...”
