"Goodnight My Love" (1956) was the highest ranking song that Jesse Belvin recorded, reaching #7 on the R&B charts. Mr. Belvin, most likely would have continued to grow in stature as an artist and a star, when he and his wife Jo Anne, who was also his manager and a lyricist, were killed in a head on collision in Hope, Arkansas, on February 6, 1960. Jesse was just 27 years old, and what magical moments that he and his wife may have contributed to the music world were silenced. Prior to the accident, he had just performed in Little Rock with Sam Cooke, Jackie Wilson, and Marv Johnson, at a concert open to an intergrated audience (the first ever in Little Rock), and the concert was halted a couple of times when angry whites were urging the white teenagers to leave the concert. There were suspicions, though never proven, that somebody sabotaged Jesse's car, parked outside of the venue. (Information courtesy of Wikipedia)
