Well, looks like the system worked. People actually stood up to corruption for once and elected a moderate and effective government with a national mandate (including both Quebec and the West).

Hopefully this will mean that some of the Liberal party organizers who stole from Canadian taxpayers will go to jail for it, Quebec will stay in Canada and I won't automatically be excluded from federal jobs based on my race and gender any more.

It's also a minority government which means that religious/socially conservative policies won't get through. That's an upshot for hippie-Buddhist-enviromentalists like me too. I'd hate to see the country take a step backward in things like gay rights and enviromental protection. Fortunately, it looks like that won't happen.

EDIT: I wonder who the next Liberal leader will be? I hope to god it's not Belinda. Brian Tobin would be good. Anne MacLellan would be a leader I could really get behind, but she lost her seat. :( Maybe, Stephan Dion if they go for a Quebecer again.

EDIT AGAIN: I'm also glad the NDP did well. Hopefully they'll be able to push through more funding for education and health care.
