Yuna Kim to showcase “Bulletproof” for the first time to US fans 10 figure skating acts join together to bring “2010 All that Skate LA” to life. Men figure skaters battle B-boys in LA on Oct. 2nd and 3rd at Staples Center/‘The Queen of Figure Skating,’ Kim Yuna is set to make her first appearance in an ice show in the U.S. with her gala program “Bulletproof.”
On September 27, 2010, Kim’s management agency, All that Sports Inc. (CEO Mi-Hee Park), released a statement that Yuna, along with 10 other figure skating acts, will be putting on a performance entitled ‘2010 All that Skate LA’ at Staples Center on October 2 and 3, 2010.‘
2010 All that Skate LA’ is Yuna’s first show being held overseas and she, along with ten of her most talented peers in the sport, are quickly captivating the attention of many fans of not only Korea, but the US as well. Expectations and anticipations arise as this ice show brings together the best skaters from across the globe as they plan to put on dramatic performances to the sounds of pop, classic, opera and other genres of music as well.
The classical piece ‘Meditation For
Thais’ and the funky beats of ‘Bulletproof’ chosen by Yuna for this performance captures the elegance of the art of figure skating. This showcase marks the first time Yuna will perform ‘Bulletproof’ to her fans in the US. The American audience will be easily smitten through the conspicuous contrast of the two songs and find that they are fitting to the dynamic atmosphere Yuna is able to create through her skating.
‘Figure Skating Legend’ Michelle Kwan will also be performing two gala performances of her own. This past July, Kwan amazed her Korean fans by creating a strong urban atmosphere through her performance to Alicia Keys’s ‘No One’ and showing a more refined and softer side during the second half, as she skated to Sara Bareilles’s ‘Winter Song’.
The participating performers of this show create the perfect romantic scene on the ice through their choreography accompanied by music that is perfectly fitting as the background of to the fall season.
2010 Vancouver Olympic’s pairs figure skating gold medalists Shen Xue and Zhao Hongbo from China will be skating to Puccini’s opera ‘Turandot.’ While Stéphane Lambiel, also known as the Romanticist on the Ice, will be performing his signature spins to Rossini’s opera ‘Wilhelm Tell – Overture’.
The two time world champions in pairs skating Aliona Savchenko and Robin Szolkowy of Germany create a dreamlike atmosphere as they dance to the popera ‘Nella Fantasia’ while Vancouver’s Olympic gold medalist Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir will dazzle the audience as they tango to the song ‘Nights and Days.’
This show will also present audience with the familiar beats and melodies of pop and rock music as 2006 Torino Olympics silver medalists in pairs skating Tanith Belbin and her partner Ben Agosto of the US will skate to Jason Mraz’s ‘If it Kills Me’ while three times U.S. National Championship winner Johnny Weir will perform to Lady Gaga’s ‘Poker Face’ and Canada’s Patrick Chan will continue to carry the light hearted atmosphere as he skates to Coldplay’s ‘Viva La Vida.’ U.S. up and coming figure skater Ashley Wagner will only add to the playful atmosphere as she will definitely have the audience tapping and grooving along to her programs as she skates to Christina Aguilera’s ‘Ain’t No Other Man,’ and Lady Gaga’s ‘Speechless.’
If this jam packed showcase hasn’t capture your attention yet, you will definitely be engaged as the women skater join together on the ice at the end of the first half of the show and skate to ‘She’s so Lovely,’ while the men join forces to engage in a first ever dance battle against a b-boy crew in the second half of the show.
In contrast to the ice-show this past July, there will be some significant improvement to the upcoming show, such as special visual effects and sophisticated sound design are all positive stage effects that will make this event unprecedented and set a new bar for future figure skating events.
This event will take place on October 2nd at 7 p.m. and October 3rd at 3 p.m. This event will be televised by SBS on October 3 at 12p.m. while NBC will air the show nationwide on October 10 from 2:30 p.m to 4 p.m. This is will be the first time an ice-show has ever been jointly televised to both Korea and the U.S.
