On December 8th, it was announced that actress Aragaki Yui has been chosen as the host for TBS’ annual music awards show, ‘The 54th Kagayaku! Japan Record Awards‘ that will be aired on the 30th.

Aragaki commented, “This will be my first time participating in this show. I’m little anxious honestly, but I would like to prepare physically and mentally, and want to fulfill my duty sufficiently so that everybody can enjoy it as the completion of this year. I’ll do my best and enjoy it!”

Together with Aragaki, TBS announcer Azumi Shinichiro will also take part as a host. Azumi has been a host assistant since 2001. Now, after 12 years, he will receive the baton from Sakai Masaaki, who had been the host for 16 years.

On the 30th, the winner of the grand prize, “Japan Record Award“, will be chosen among the 10 winners of the “Best Song” category, while “Best New Artist” will be chosen among the 4 winners of the “New Artist” category.

Yui did very well tonight as celebrity host of the Japan Record Awards!

She and fellow host, TBS announcer Shinichiro Azumi, worked well together and both were rocking out
when Princess Princess did a special set of 'M' and 'Diamonds'

According to this article hosted on Yahoo Japan, the 54th Japan Record Awards' ratings (16.6% in the Kanto region) was up compared to the previous year. They are suggesting the AKB48 effect. Strange when you consider AKB48 won the previous year.

I like to think it's the Mayuyu and Gakky effect
