Capcom registers Devil May Cry trademark which could hint at a new game.. Last year's reboot didn't sell well at all which is an indication that many of the fans didn't much care for the approach. Especially when DmC only sold a a few hundred thousand copies, compared to DMC4 which sold millions, the most popular in the series even. It was an inferior action game as well, not up to par with DMC3 or 4. Want to experiment with combos on harder difficulties? Oh turns out you can't because you can only use red weapons on red enemies and blue weapons on blue enemies on a shaky 30FPS framerate

Please be DMC5 and not DmC2. There's something to be had in attracting the hardcore back to the series, look at what it did for SFIV. Hideki Kamiya has expressed an interest in coming back for another one so I hope they bite the bullet and just do it. Next gen DMC5, done by Platinum Games, would make me lose my shit and guaranteed for me to hand over my money on Day One. But it is modern Capcom, so it might turn out to be a Western developed phone game.

Some pretty shocking news came out today in that Irrational Games (Bioshock 1-Infinite) is dissolving. I admit, Bioshock Infinite did not blow me away at all, but I appreciate what it was aiming for at least, and it's sad to see a talented AAA studio just dissolve despite critical acclaim. There are plans that Ken Levine and others will form smaller studios and continue on so there is something to look forward to at least, but I think everyone should just temper that excitement for the time being until those people who were laid off find new jobs.

Must be a strange feeling. You work on a game for years. It comes out to critical acclaim with some people saying it's not only their game of the year, but their favourite game ever. And then you show up to work one day and told you and the rest of the team will be let go.

The thing I take solace in during Irrational Games having to lay off people is a quote from Joystiq:

Quote
Levine says that current staff will "have access to the studio for a period of time to say their goodbyes and put together their portfolios," and that other Take-Two studios will be available to "discuss opportunities within the company." Third-party developers and publishers will be able to participate in a "recruiting day" hosted by Irrational Games, offering outgoing employees interviews for other positions.

http://www.joystiq.com/2014/02/18/layoffs-cutting-irrational-games-down-to-a-team-of-15/

That's super cool that Take-Two/2k are still trying to take care of their people.

To anyone who has ever read any of these "alarming" financial stories over the years, usually about how Nintendo is doomed and has to go to make mobile games, etc, please read this:

http://www.forbes.com/sites/adamhartung/2014/02/18/microsoft-should-give-xbox-one-to-nintendo/

The silliest thing about this is, how seriously people will take it, like the other stories (or maybe not since it's Microsoft, instead of the Nintendo hate train, idk) because practically all game companies (software & hardware) are publicly owned corporations with idiot shareholders, reading these idiotic articles and taking them completely seriously.

Like for example, Nintendo is now doing smartphone apps because of recent losses. All to please the shareholders and keep the stock price up.

^ I'll take you under my tutorship. Soon you will be a Master Assassin....or I could play it for you, whichever comes first XD

I don't get people who are so upset over game reviews. Particularly for a review on a game which they haven't played yet. How do you know the reviewer is wrong if you've never played it for yourself?. Honestly, it's getting to the point now where one party is  almost obtusely insisting that reviews be little more than a series of factual bullet points because the reviewers opinion upset them. Grow a pair and realise that it's just an opinion.

MGS5 : Ground Zeroes is also making headline news for the wrong reasons, as it's reported that it can be completed in 2 hrs, something which priced at £30, is proving too much for some. Now some are saying that Ground Zeroes, or any game at that length is not worth the price which is a view I don't necessarily share. For one Kojima says there is more content in Ground Zeroes than just the main story so even if you complete it in 2 hrs, there is apparently still enough to warrant replayability. I will also admit, my view on the issue is slightly skewed by the fact that I have a £25 Amazon gift voucher to burn and the PS3 edition is £22. I like the series and I'm interested in the new direction it is taking, so I haven't got a problem with the price.

Similarly, I now have absolutely zero interest in the Call of Duty games, so even if some players are clocking hundreds of hours on it, I personally wouldn't spend even a fiver for them. So to me, it depends on how much value each person thinks the game is worth, which has always been the case when buying any game. People often complain about completion time regarding Platinum's games (Vanquish, Metal Gear Rising) but those are some of my favourite games which I can happily replay over and over. The asking price and the length of a game should not be confused with its quality. If the game is good, it's worth it. Remember, a full price outstanding game like Rez can be completed in less than 90 minutes. The original MGS could also be completed in a few hours. I think some of the naysayers are forgetting this. I think some people are even forgetting the fact that people bought Zone of the Enders 2, just to be able to play the MGS2 demo which was shorter still. Nobody complained about it's length then.

^ Genuinely curious, but what's the difference between CoD and Battlefield? Like what sets them apart and makes the other (obviously Battlefield for you) better?

CoD has smallish maps, primarily designed for close quarter combat and fast reactionary shooting. Don't get me wrong either, COD4 multiplayer was some of the best multiplayer experiences I've ever had. But since MW2 it's just never really evolved, small changes here and there but nothing substantial. Plus it's just crowded with whiny tweens and douchebags. It's fun to annoy them all if you're doing well in a game (you should know I've read out their messages to you XD) but it's just diminishing returns as I played more, getting stuck in a team of randoms who tried their no scope sniper shots all over the show and failing.

Battlefield 3 has much larger maps, a higher player count per match and land/air/sea vehicles which can make it feel, well, like a Battlefield! There's no destructible environments in CoD but there is in Battlefield, to a degree. Pesky sniper hiding in a building? Play as an Engineer and blow that wall the fuck apart! You're bound to see some crazy stuff happen in the game at some point which you can't account for and it's that level of unpredictability which is what makes it exciting. It's good to help out the team effort in some small way too, I like playing as the Assault class and throwing down my medkit next to a few of my teammates as they're holding down a position. Plus, it just feels like it's on a grander scale and with more players per match, it feels like a real accomplishment if you make it as the MVP. It looks great, the sound is amazing and plays really well too. Well, Battlefield 3 at least. I can't speak for Battlefield 4 and nor do I want to with the amount of issues it has still!

Oooh, now I get it! Thanks! No wonder CoD has the reputation for being the game for douchey teens and wannabe-tough-and-tries-to-talk-smack pre-teens. XD

In saying that, there's not a super huge difference unless you actively play them :D

Gun waggles on screen, shoot people, they complain, play for hours, buy the same game next year, repeat for 10 years.

Titanfall is the same game pretty much, except you can get in a robot after a while. But the robot handles almost the same as a troop, so it's more like a big human than a robot I guess.

People are still dumping their PS2 games, so I picked up another 40 game set

White label only, I keep the Platinums on the bottom shelve, haha.

Sadly, one of the games I actually wanted was damaged beyond repair and came with the wrong booklet

It brings the PS2 total to exactly 160 games!  :twothumbs

The difficulty spike from Season 3 to Season 4 on GRID 2 is completely insane. I can't win any races or time trials. Think I need to drift more but it's so hard to get a good one going in this game and it usually sends me into a wall.

Bought MGS : Ground Zeroes with my Amazon gift card. Should be interesting to at least get a taste for Phantom Pain. Was planning to use the gift card for Thief but seems like that might be one worth waiting for on PS Plus. I'm in no rush.

I see that Civilization Revolution is available for free in the Xbox marketplace. I may just make some space for it.

YEEEEEEEEEESSSSSS

I know I had my problems with Arkham City but I'm just so excited for this for some reason.

Mainly I'm excited because I can see the new 52 influences already with Bruce looking young like new 52 Bruce, even though all the enemies look the same. I know Arkham is it's own universe but I can already tell there's going to be a version of a few recent storylines in it, like the Batman RIP storyline or the new 52 Court of Owls (I would be very surprised if this wasn't included, it would fit the game far too well)

The biggest difference though is going to be how it's presented. Arkham City was made before the New 52 reboot happened, so for example, there's no Azreal comic anymore (or is he even around anymore at all?), and he was in the 'secret' part of Arkham City hinting at the future. Robin is still Red Robin, but he has almost nothing to do with Batman anymore, just Teen Titans. I know DC is going to want to keep things "current" and will probably influence this game, good or bad.
Damien wasn't removed in the reboot, will he be Robin instead? who knows!

And because Rocksteady is doing it. All I saw for the last game was a CGI trailer too, but I couldn't care less about it. Just a simple prequel of "Batman starting out" but they just lazily picked the same old stuff without even going back to the early Batman stuff, what a waste just to get another Batman game out for 2013. Plus the game was emulated poorly by the new developers as I hear.
