Playing Thief mostly and the more I play the more it starts to irritate me! Navigating the hub area is a pain in itself if you don't take into account the frequent slowdown and frequent loading screen. It has the impression of a huge city to go through, but going between districts? That's a loading screen. Going into buildings? That's a loading screen. It all adds up. The map doesn't make it easier, it is bare bones at best and absolutely not clear on where you can go and not. Often I follow the map to lead me to an objective and right where it shows me there's a path I can go down, in game it leads to in front of a building of a dead end. It's very frustrating. The story isn't anything to shout about either. I still don't mind playing it but it is very much an average game.

Another day, another embarrassing case of a professional female gamer being harassed out of gaming by a hivemind of misogynistic armchair detectives. Basically they deduced she must have male players playing for her purely because she is a woman. That's all it is. This lead to constant accusations and demands to prove that she was indeed a woman. Understandably, she just stepped down rather than continue to be an e-Sports player. Scummy behaviour from people who felt threatened by their insecurities that a woman might actually be a better player than they are.

Arkham Knight continues to look good. Different character redesigns too, seems more realistic faces than Asylum or City. Also, it's been rated M for mature whereas the previous two were Teen. Interesting.

You'll mostly see an echo chamber of people trying to disclaim Anita Sarkeesian, journalists, 2 particular female indie developers in particular or seemingly anyone else who criticises them, so not much has changed in that regard. Total Biscuit has now aligned to the cause, but it's so evident that it is purely for publicity. GamerGate is against traditional gaming press, by extension, Total Biscuit's competitors, so any attempt to raise his profile and draw people away from there is something he will take. Just don't also call him a journalist or a critic though otherwise he would have to live up to the unrealistic standards that he demands from journalists/critics (even though reporting news and reviewing games is his profession). I could compile a list of the dumb shit he's said since (like defending the use of the word heterosexual because fag is a term to describe a cigarette in the UK which is just...mind numbingly stupid) but it takes time and energy which I just can't keep up with lately.

Anita Sarkeesian recently compiled a list of things she suggested developers can do to improve the image of women in games

Quote
Avoid the Smurfette principle (don't have just one female character in an ensemble cast, let alone one whose personality is more or less "girl" or "woman.")

"Lingerie is not armor" (Dress female characters as something other than sex objects.)

Have female characters of various body types

Don't over-emphasize female characters' rear ends, not any more than you would the average male character's.

Include more female characters of color.

Animate female characters to move the way normal women, soldiers or athletes would move.

Record female character voiceover so that pain sounds painful, not orgasmic

Include female enemies, but don't sexualize those enemies

A perfectly reasonable list, one which contains many points raised before she was prominent. While nothing groundbreaking or shocking, it's still worth reiterating.

That list is SO simple and it's so infuriating that we still have to ask for those things. I think the new Mortal Kombat game promised more realistic looking women (which they look great and definitely don't have over-emphasized TnA, but they are definitely still mostly ideal looking women) and were met with tweets like:

"who gives a fuck what the female audience wants"
 :bleed eyes:

^ That last tweet right there seems to epitomise what GG is all about. That they don't really care about women's opinions. Look at how prominent women thus far have been treated if they disagree with the GG agenda. Born out of a female indie developer's alleged sexual favours to male journalists for favorable coverage (which proved to be false), right up to now where feminist critique and female developers are targeted and debated at, twisting their words and arguments to score internet points as well as being on the receiving end of death threats. All over games journalism FFS. If your hashtag movement is supported by the likes of Breitbart, Adam Baldwin, Infowars, Alex Jones, Thunderf00t and white supremacy groups, then maybe you should really do some introspection and ask why you're involved with such a movement. And if you're complicit with that still then may I suggest you are a piece of shit.

Think I worked out what was sticking at me about Rogue Legacy. It's the fact that despite it's roguelike nature, it's impossible to make any progress in the later areas of the game unless you get the best equipment, skills, upgrades etc. All of which requires gold obtained through multiple attempts at the game. So it all seems like one big grindfest to accumulate gold. This isn't true of say Spelunky where all the mechanics and features are available from the start and it's down to player skill (and a little luck). So at the minute I'm struggling with the remaining 2 areas of Rogue Legacy purely because the enemies are too strong and I need to level up more.

Want to give a shoutout to Devil May Cry 3, now 10 years old. Still one of the best games ever made. I'll never grow tired of playing a good character action game and DMC3 is special because I feel it's what really sold me on the genre. On top of some addictive, challenging gameplay it also tells the best story in the genre (wouldn't be hard admittedly) and it's packed with interesting badasses and very atmospheric. Will never grow tired of this cutscene in particular. Completely 100% crazy (or "cur-razy!" as Dante says) and I love it for that reason. Look at it. LOOK AT IT! HOW COOL IS IT!?

It pushed the genre to new heights with the style system which allowed you to play with different abilities (Swordmaster gave you additional moves for your melee weapons whilst Trickster allowed you to dash and evade enemies for example), plus the ability to switch out weapons in game, even during mid combo which really opened up the ability to keep your combo's flowing and create some fantastic looking moves together. There's enough there to make the game endlessly enjoyable, the bosses were the best seen in any game and all at 60 FPS. I'm blown away by some of the combo videos I see:

The first DMC was influential in creating the genre but DMC3 really brought it to a new level and influenced many games to this day. Cheers Dante! Let's rock!

Working my way through Metroid Prime Trilogy! I could have just jumped into 2 at the start but I decided to replay 1 again so I could get the hang of it. I've played a little of 2 but already I miss the old way of scanning things and it doesn't feel very Metroid-ish D: I hope they don't push the FPS multiplayer aspect too much.

Stick with 2, the feel is different, but it also holds some really memorable areas (Torvus Bog, Sanctuary Fortress) that is easy to love. It's also more challenging than Prime 1 was ,which I appreciate having just come straight out of playing the first Prime after 12 hours or so. The multiplayer aspect is never pushed in the single player so no worries there. Think the multiplayer for it was the most forgotten about mode in existence

NINTENDO IS DOOOOOMED
http://kotaku.com/nintendo-teams-up-is-making-smartphone-games-1691865881

Except not really, also any games or apps made will be new, just using Nintendo IP. Also this may be the modern replacement for Club Nintendo? I suppose it was pretty old fashioned if you think about it.

NEW NINTENDO CONSOLE!!!! THE NX~!
http://kotaku.com/nintendos-next-console-is-code-named-the-nintendo-nx-1691867268

This article is purely about Iwata mentioning the development codename to stop anyone being scared that they're going into mobile gaming only. Who knows if it's a new handheld or home console  :hump:

K, me here not gaming much. also not watching many movies.

thing is: Titanfall (pc) for 10 bucks & all these add-ons/season pass/i dunno about-stuff for free (now for everyone)

well, well, for a HC flightsimmer all the perception of 'much-shit-goin-on' ain't the problem...it is more the time span to react to it^^

But nice game! good graphics and shit explodes everywhere!

looking forward for tonite!

Since Episode 2 of TTG's Borderlands game came out today, I actually I had to go back and replay Episode 1 since they took so goddamn long to release Ep. 2 due to me deleting my save game and uninstalling the game.  It was worth the wait though since I actually enjoyed playing through this episode.  Now I await the 2nd episode of Life Is Strange which seems to have a more consistent release schedule.

Annoyed for two reasons lately. For one, I decided to get a PS4. Think the time is right, there's a few games out now which warrant the purchase with Battlefield 4, Far Cry 4, Shadow of Mordor, AC Unity, Driveclub and especially Bloodborne out now. And of course, plenty of time to enjoy those whilst other games on the horizon are coming out soon too. I placed a pre order on the PS4 bundle on Tuesday for a PS4 with Bloodborne and Driveclub with the promise that it would be delivered on release day, which was Fri. Tracked the package and found it's been sitting in a depot since Thursday and it hadn't been sent out yet and considering they don't deliver on Saturdays, it'll be Mon by the time I get it. Was hoping to get stuck into Bloodborne over the weekend before a busy work week.

Secondly, Episode 3 of Game of Thrones is out now for all platforms. Except for some reason, not the European PS store. Can't find it anywhere and it's certainly not attached next to the Game of Thrones page. When I try to download from within the game menu itself I just get an error saying failed to connect. Even by Telltale/Sony's standards it's pretty ridiculous. I don't know if it's just me or other people are having the issue too, but when the game explicity says 'Available now, click here to download' and it doesn't work, then I don't see there's a problem on my end.

I realise both are first world problems, I will get my PS4 eventually and likewise Episode 3 will also be available. Still annoying though!!
