I'm quite pleased with these videos. Turning on Eagle Vision in AC games is a bit like easy mode, enemies are highlighted out to you even through walls so you can have a good grasp of when to attack. I think it's rewarding in itself to not use that and instead use the other subtle cues the game gives you like the sonar effect around your character, to have a guess on where the enemies are. Here are two successful attempts at getting through it without being seen (mostly)

Looking back while playing 999 for the 12in12 challenge, by far my favorite scene out of the entire game:

Enjoyed the Hitman beta over the weekend. Doesn't break the mold, but seems like a good Hitman game. I played both the available missions to a more than satisfactory execution.

Picked up the new Hitman game over the weekend after being impressed by the beta. For those who don't know, the game at release comes with the 2 training missions from the beta as well as a proper mission set in Paris, but that's it. The rest of the levels are going to be episodic, released for free throughout the rest of the year. I don't think that format can or should apply to other games from other developers, but I think for Hitman it's a good fit, as each mission has always been it's own self contained level with a minimal story thread connecting through it all anyway. The game could do with some updates from the developer as well (more on that below), so that gives them the opportunity to address those in later releases too.

And honestly, I can be prepared to wait considering that the Paris level is one of the best in the series. Absolutely huge, brimming with detail and rife with unique opportunities to assassinate your targets. It's begging to be replayed over and over again to see it all and I'm happy to do that. Unique kills are labelled as Opportunities in the game, where you can overhear a conversation which then allows you to track how to go about getting to and killing your target by displaying mission objectives and icons on the map. As something of a Hitman purist, I initially turned that off so I could discover things for myself but actually found it pretty difficult to figure out what to do. The minimal setting seems like a decent step, as objectives are highlighted on the UI still, but it's up to the player to go and find the disguises, objects etc on their own without it being explicitly pointed out in the game. Aside from that, the game increases it's replayability through Contract mode, where other players create their own missions to share with other people by tagging an NPC and setting requirements on how to kill them. On top of that there is an Escalation mission, where there are 5 stages to a mission where you may initially have to take out a target one way, then have to play that again taking them out the same way, but with an additional caveat like breaking into a safe. Then the third stage is all of the above plus taking out another target in a different way and so it keeps building and building up to the 5th level. I think it's a really cool feature and hope they continue to provide those with each update. They also have Elusive Targets which seems like a real time limited mission to take someone out and receive in game rewards for doing so.

So while one level at launch for a full retail price game sounds pretty bad, there's plenty there to keep busy with already with the promise of more missions throughout the year in new environments which will encourage you to keep coming back. The biggest complaint I have right now is that the online servers to connect to are a little dodgy at launch and there have been at least 2 instances where their server goes offline and it kicks you out of the game session. Not only that, but you can't load the save file at all whilst it's down, making the game unplayable. There's an option to take the game and play it offline which is something I'll have to consider doing. But that's hopefully something that can be addressed with later updates. If they can clean that up and deliver on the promise of that fantastic Paris level in the new missions then I can easily see this being the best game in the series.

Were you able to kill the 1st of the Sarajevo 6?

I hear they are the 'Illusive Targets'.

^ I don't think they are, they are PS4 exclusive missions and I was able to do the only one available to me there and it was just a straight forward contract. I didn't get any in game rewards for it either. Elusive Contracts are their own unique thing:

Quote
These are targets who appear for a limited time only, the first one will be live for 48 hours in the game. And players get only one chance to take them out, there are no second chances. This is a new character with bespoke dialogue and behavior in the game. Players will only receive their Elusive Target briefing once the new character has entered their location.

One of the new escalation contracts is pretty funny if only because I never would have realised you could get such a thing as a Vampire Magician costume  I think one time I'm just going to follow important people around as it seems like if you listen to their dialogue it pieces together a much larger story that you can work out. It's a pretty cool way of delivering out the story.

Picked up Salt and Sanctuary too which is almost literally a 2D Dark Souls game. I hope to write more about it once I beat it but the similarities are striking, right down to specific lines of dialogue. Speaking of which, the next few weeks will be torture as Dark Souls 3 comes out in Japan this week. Gonna have to avoid potential spoilers like the plague.

Completed Hearts of Stone, the first of two DLC expansions for The Witcher 3. I've made it clear in the Best Games of 2016 thread why I love it and I'm happy to say the love continues with this DLC, which delivers on the best components that the base game has to offer. Strong narratives backed up by complex characters giving you the freedom to determine the outcome based on your decisions. They've thrown in some actual boss encounters in this DLC too, something somewhat lacking from the base game as well as some additional side quests and gameplay enhancements. I view it as it's own little side story within the Witcher world, a Tales of Geralt if you will and honestly I would be happy getting stuff like this from now until the end of time. I'm probably more excited for the second expansion due out later this year than I am of other new games.

Was playing Salt and Sanctuary earlier. Got kinda stuck on this boss, the Kraeken Wyrm. Died 3 times to it already but I had his moves pinned down. I just had to be careful because his fire would drain my maximum HP and he gets more aggressive the closer you are to killing him. So I got to about a third of his life, drained all my main potions and had to rely on little pithy things that barely recovered my health and just tried to play it calmly. It gets more aggressive I wonder if I'll make it through and then....it glitches out and...well you can see for yourself. I had a good laugh

*EDIT*

Quick comment, I was reading comments on a Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 review and more than a few said "I'm buying this game to piss off any SJW's". Yes I'm sure they're deeply upset that they have $60 more in their pocket than you do. Buy a game because you want to play it, once you start doing it because you think it will piss off some imaginary bogeymen and score you internet points, then re-evaluate your life..

^ Sacrilege!

Playing a few games on the go at the minute. I wasn't quite prepared for how much of a simulation racer Dirt Rally is, but I'm slowly getting used to the driving model. Having said that, any time I've tried a rally event using a higher powered car than a 60's Mini Cooper which I'm currently using for career mode, I tend to spin the car out and crash all over the show. Will have to find out what I'm doing wrong, but as someone who really loved the Colin McCrae rally games back in the PS1/PS2 days, this is a fantastic successor to those.

Zombii, the same game as ZombiiU only for PS4/Xbox One, is pretty entertaining for what it is. Nothing greatly special but I still enjoy playing it. I Am Alive is a different kind of survival game which has some interesting mechanics which I've always wanted to test out in a game e.g. owning a single bullet for your gun is absolutely precious. Shame then that anytime I start it up I wonder if I'm going to play it at all, as it can frequenly lock up my PS3, which is a known issue with that version of the game. Surely that is the first test that has to pass QA before it's released to the public....

Going to try and finish up a game or two before Tuesday when Dark Souls 3 finally arrives which will demand most of my attention. :D

With all the big JRPG's coming out over the next months, I totally forgot about Nier: Automata

The song on the offical website has been playing non-stop for the last hour or so, and if its any indicator how good the actual OST will be, I can throw my money blindly at cdjapan or wherever I'll order it, when it comes out!

Just had a fantastic experience while playing Invisible Inc, a turn based tactics game with roguelike elements and an emphasis on futuristic stealth. I picked a mission to steal a prototype weapon which would be a great boon to the success of any future missions I take (the game operates on you having to prepare for a showdown in 72 hours, so any mission you pick is important as it uses up hours of travel time to get to it.) I'm exploring the mission but I was unable to find it and too much time had passed so security started to highten. To my regret, I eventually found it locked behind a door but I didn't have the keycard for it, something I could pick up from guards but didn't think this would happen. The security level at this point goes up to 5, which spawns in an elite guard to the mix who can pinpoint an agent's location and alert all the guards to go to it. And so my 2 agents, Decker and Internationale, are trapped. Both in a room which leads out to a corridor where we came in. It has 2 exits, where 1 is open and how we came in and where the guards will come through and another which is again locked by a keycard. We have nothing to defend ourselves with and if we die, it's really game over and you have to start the campaign all over again from the beginning (not a big issue, I was only maybe an hour into it at this point and a full campaign doesn't look like it lasts for that long either which makes it easy to reattempt should you fail but it's the principle that counts as I was on a good run!)

I was able to position Decker behind the door for the first guard to come through ahead of the others, knocking him out. I searched him and was lucky to find that he had a keycard on him! There was no way to go for the weapon we had to steal, too much time had passed and more elite guards were coming in. Even if I retreated back to the room with the weapon, we were screwed as there was no escape. It was only then I realised that the door blocked by the keycard lead to another door leading out and towards the exit. With Decker's turn over I passed the card to Internationale and booked it towards the door, opening it. The enemy had their turn, getting closer to us. Our turn now, this was it, now or never or else the guards were going to get in and kill us both. I had the two made it out of the corridor, into the room and shut the door behind us. The guards come in wondering where we are and I was able to lead them out through the other door, directly past the other guards and booked it to the exit where we escaped.

So while technically I failed that mission as I didn't get the weapon, it sure didn't feel that way. My agents escaped a tough situation and live to sneak another day. I won't forget that experience for a long time. Fantastic game.
